Fresh off my Voodoo-tastic vacation to New Orleans, I find myself presented with the first test of my newly discovered magic. There’s been a murder in the neighboring town of Pine Shoals and the victim has decided she’s not cut out for the spectral life and needs a gentle push into the Otherworld.

As it turns out, conjuring some magic and telling a ghost to ‘go towards the light’ isn’t quite good enough, and now the hysterical ghost is stuck in some kind of limbo land.

It’s up to me to solve her murder before the poor ghost goes insane—or, becomes demon food. Whichever happens first.

Reapers creepers.

These audiobooks may be under five hours but they all pack a punch, and Big Ghosts Don’t Cry was no exception. When a woman is murdered, and appears before Scarlet she just wants to crossover. With Scarlet’s new found ability it should be easy-easy, but she soon learns you shouldn’t mess with powers you don’t understand. Now the ghost is trapped in limbo and unless she can cross them over, she may just have opened a portal for demons to enter our world!

Garrett pulls me in every time! I love Scarlett and her trio of ghostly sidekicks. Scarlett doesn’t have a manual on her abilities and is learning as she goes. Each experience and case brings forth new information.

After the big case in New Orleans, we see a switch in the storyline’s direction and it’s one I found refreshing. This story was more balanced than the previous books. The author wove the murder-mystery, Scarlet’s abilities, growth, and her growing relationship with Lucas through the entire story, rather than breaking them into chunks. This made for a more cohesive and entertaining storyline. I hope the pattern continues!

If you are looking for a cozy mystery with paranormal elements, snark, quirky characters and fun you’ll want to check out the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery series. While each book contains a new mystery, they are best listened to in the order of their release. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Picking up a couple weeks after the revelations laid out in the previous book, Big Ghosts Don’t Cry opens with Lucas moving to Seattle for his new job. The first quarter of the book allows listeners to catch up with the characters and learn how Scarlet is doing with her emerging powers, and how Lucas is reacting to the craziness of Scarlet’s life. I appreciate that the author creates such a strong character in Lucas; someone who will stand by Scarlet’s side, regardless of the curveballs. I also like that while Scarlet has fears that Lucas will have enough and leave, she doesn’t let them completely control her life. Finally, I love the maturing nature of Scarlet and her relationship with Lucas; it’s evolving along side Scarlet, making the story richer. This book is equal parts mystery and romance.

Still trying to understand the powers that are manifesting within her, Scarlet discovers she can send ghosts to “the other side,” however she isn’t aware of the repercussions if a ghost is sent before it’s ready. New character, Karla the funeral home manager, scolds Scarlet as she tells her that demons (are real) can come through to our side when this happens. This leads Scarlet, et. al. to their usual mystery solving activities. I enjoyed the murder mystery piece of the story, but found Scarlet’s awakening powers more exciting. And I’m not so sure how I feel about demons being added to the mix of “supernatural stuff” going on in the Beechwood Harbor world.

Narration: I’ve been listening to Amanda Ronconi read the original series and now this spin-off for over a dozen books or so, and she has consistently done a wonderful job. The Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries is voiced from the first person POV of Scarlet. Ms. Ronconi captures Scarlet’s kindness, generosity, and determination. But also convincingly voices her frustration when called for. Additionally, Ms. Ronconi gives each of the three primary ghost regulars distinct and appropriate voices, and her male voices are generally deeper and fitting.

I don’t know if the author plans to continue the series, because as written Big Ghosts Don’t Cry lends itself as a solid stopping point for the series. However, I’m really enjoying the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries and hope for more adventures for Scarlet, Lucas, and the gang.

My Ratings:
Story: A-
Narrator: A-

Wowza!!!!! What an adventure Scarlet had this time! Scarlet learns of a new power that helps with ghosts but with new power comes with a new responsibility. She now faces a big problem, she used her power on ghost who wasn't ready to cross over thus causing a chain of events. Now she races against time to solve a murder of this ghost and set her free from the other realm before something very bad could happen.

I thought this book was great! I loved how the story expands more on the relationship of Scarlet and Lucas but also has a mystery that has you thinking of who done it. Danielle Garrett also expanded on Scarlets powers as a Ghost Shepard. Before she wasn't able to really touch ghosts. With her powers expanded she can now touch them. Her power lets her put a ghost to rest in the other realm to cross over as well. This sorta backfires and causes the mystery. I wont spoil it, but I will say it is an interesting read.

Mystery Wise: It was really good, it involved a woman who lived in a town over who was murdered. She doesnt remember how or who did it. She gets fed up as living as a ghost and tries to enlist Scarlet to help her cross over. Going against better judgement she does, which catches the eye of Carla the director of the Beechwood Funeral Home. Oh my gherkins we learn that Carla is a summoner and is able to channel ghosts. This causes them to Channel Sabrina (the passed away woman) and they find out she is in a purgatory type realm. She needs to be at peace and cross over or spend eternity there or worse be devoured by demons. This causes the spark for Scarlet to locate the killer. The who did it was quite a head scratcher at first. I was unsure of who it was until one bit of information was discovered. It was a good mystery.

Relationship wise: Ok Lucas is so sweet and I love how him and Scarlet just blossom through the book. They work together and he starts warming up more to ghosts and Scarlets powers. There is a major event that happens at the end of the book but I wont spoil it, but it does lead into the next book. Ghosts in this book also go through more character development. Gwen and Hayward slowly inching towards romance. Gwen using her gossipy and chismosa skills to obtain information. Hayward being more investigative and even showing more affection towards Gwen. Flapjack is still a turd but you see how protective he is towards Scarlet. He's really sweet deep down the furry headache.

Any who this book was really good and it's a nice edition to the series. I cant wait to get into the other books in the series.

After her New Orleans adventure where she learns that she has magic related to her ability to see and hear ghosts, Scarlet is settled back into her Beechwood Harbor community working at her flower shop and sharing a shorter long-distance relationship with Luca now that he's home-based in Seattle.

But, then we have a ghost whose death was anything but tranquil. Here they go again...

I have a good time with these light-hearted paranormal cozy mysteries with their small town setting and dash of romance. Scarlett is a great heroine and I enjoy that she's a florist for her day job. Her detecting is made exciting by her three ghostly companions - hippie ghost Gwen, Victorian gentleman ghost, Hayward, and sarcastic cat ghost, Flapjack- and her understanding, but eager boyfriend-security expert, Lucas.

In the earlier books, Scarlett was so conflicted about many things that I felt she dwelled a lot, but with this one, it was right to the murder mystery and a little demonic dilemma Scarlett unintentionally caused. Oh, and things might be heating up a bit with Scarlett and Lucas as she lets him in on more of her secrets and ponders about taking things deeper with their relationship.

I thought it was even more endearing that her crime-solving partner was generally Lucas, but Flapjack got some extra time to shine. The mystery had me wondering whodunnit for a time, but I confess I was more taken up with Scarlett figuring things out in her own life.

With each installment, I eagerly reach for the next audio edition because I can anticipate the exceptional Amanda Ronconi narrating the stories and giving them that extra bit of pizzazz. Her characters are distinct and her storytelling is so easy to sink into. While I love all the voices she does, Flapjack's is hands-down my fav.

All in all, this is an easy-read, entertaining series that I can strongly recommend to those who enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries.

My thanks to Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love this cozy mystery series. It has all the things I want the ghosts, coffee, snarky characters, and mysterious chaotic fun times.

Oh, and did I mention all the cozy goodness..

cozy

My favorite character by far is Flapjack. ❤ He's full of sarcasm, but is always there when you need help or funny enough some sage like wisdom.

This one was the best one yet.

I feel like the main character was less of a poop head to her ghostly friends this book, which was a very nice change. I also was surprised by the wrapping up of the mystery!

New powers, new problems

Another good read. Not brilliant but still an entertaining read. What could have made it better - not sure but something just felt a bit 'off' with this one. Her new powers are coming thick and fast and her relationship is getting stronger with Lucas.
Lucas has managed to get a job closer but it still is a fair distance away. Her florist shop is doing well but seeing ghosts and trying to ignore them is harder especially with blubber mouths around. The newest ghost has even murdered and desperately wants to move on. Especially after she hears that she helped another ghost do so. However there is a problem - this particular ghost is stuck in Limbo and unless her issues are resolved could be used by demons to get onto the earthly plane. The solution - find her killer. Can she, Lucas and her three favourite ghosts do what the police can't? What happens next?

I have been reviewing the books in the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries   as they are released. The previous series is the  Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries which I am working on reading.   The books of both series are in Kindle Unlimited.

Big Ghosts Don't Cry is my favorite so far!  I have always felt the books were well-written and the narrator is talented. The stories are a blend of a mystery,  Scarlet's personal growth and her romance with Lucas.  My concern was that most of the book was taken up with working the mystery which was sometimes more blundering.  Scarlet was NOT trying to figure out or learn about her abilities. Her relationship with Lucas often got a few pages in the epilogue or last chapter.

Now it was all integrated throughout the story!!!  We got a murder mystery with a ghost who doesn't know what happened to her.  Scarlet learns more about her skills and actually works on developing them a bit.  Lucas is woven in all across the chapters.  And yes,  we still get more exciting updates at the end!
Narration:
Amanda Ronconi is a well-loved narrator with lots of experience in this paranormal genre.    Scarlet, Lucas, Flapjack, Gwen and Hayward all have unique voices and are now familiar to me.  I listened at my usual 1.5x speed. Her performance added to my enjoyment.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

I was excited to be back into Beechwood Harbor. I’ve really found that I really enjoy the series that take place in this little town filled with supernatural people. In this story, Scarlett is faced with a murdered ghost who just wants to move on, but there is a reason she didn’t move on, on her own

Scarlett is still learning about her powers. No ghost has ever asked her to send them on their way before, so she really doesn’t know much about what she’s doing, but she also wants to be helpful. So, she tries to help solve the murder with her three ghostly companion and her still-living boyfriend.

I’ve found that I really enjoy these cozy mysteries that Danielle Garrett. They’re short, light-hearted, and very entertaining stories. I love the mix of paranormal, mystery, romance and humor. Add in Amanda Ronconi’s narrator and this is a series that I can use as an escape from the real world for a few hours.

Narration
Amanda Ronconi is such an amazing narrator. I always have a fun time listening to her stories. She really puts emotions into all the characters. The voices always fit the personalities of the characters. I’ve you’ve never listened to Ronconi narrate a story, you’re really missing out.

**I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Again another fantastic tale which was highly enjoyable and entertaining. As much as i have fallen in love with the mystery side of these stories i have come to realise a detective i definitely wouldn't make, purely because the person i always seem to think is the bad guy literally isn't. However, it always keeps me guessing and it's probably one of the reasons i love these so much.

After her vacation in New Orleans, Scarlet is coming to terms with her newly discovered magic. However, it's put to the test when a murder victim decides she not cut out to be a ghost and wants to be guided to the Otherworld. But things don't run smoothly and Scarlet accidentally sends her into limbo and puts her in danger of becoming prey for a demon. Can Scarlet get to grips with her new power and help the ghost into the light, while also trying to solve her murder?

Poor Scarlet really can't catch a break, while genuinely wanting to help she makes a problem worse but it was against her better judgement to start with. One of the things i love about her is she actually learns by her mistakes and grows because of it. Knowing just because she can do something, doesn't mean she should and realising that makes her a better person. Of course one aspect of her new powers literally had me in tears (happy ones) but you'll have to read the book to find out what.

Again Lucas is on hand to help with the investigating side of things as he has a few tricks up his sleeve, and him and Scarlet make an awesome team working together. Add in the fact that he wants to take their relationship to another level had me squealing with joy, and the romantic that he is it was just swoon worthy.

And my feline with no filter Flapjack who although has an attitude the size of a small mountain showed that he's not all about sass and getting his next fix of fish, but when he wants to can be a voice of reason for Scarlet because he knows her so well. Love this lil floof ball so much.

After the ending of this one i can't wait to see what's in store for the gang in book 5. I definitely know one thing, i probably won't guess the bad guy.. So if you enjoy cozy mysteries with sassy felines, cute ghosts and a ghost whisperer who likes to solve a murder, check out this series. Totally recommend 😁

I enjoyed reading this book. However, it dragged. So much so that I took a star off for it. It took everything I had not to skip some pages and get to the ending.

I really like the characters.

Scarlett is sometimes quirky and sometimes serious. She's loyal and really wants to do the right thing. She's almost fearless but not so much that I want to accuse her of being "too stupid to live". I like her, I just wish she had a little more (OK A LOT MORE) magical OOMPH. I kept getting bored by how powerless she seems to be.

Lucas is challenging for me. He isn't all that big of a presence in this book. It's been awhile since I read book 3 so I don't remember much about him. I can only go off this book. He seems to be taking all the supernatural stuff in stride. I'm glad I didn't have to read through a freak out. Who in today's day and age with all the supernatural stuff on TV, movies, books would freak out? I think most people suspect that there might just be a little something "extra" out there. Perhaps not vampires and shifters but maybe ghosts, demons, angels, and karma. So if you can believe in that, it shouldn't be much of a leap for the other things. An initial freak out, sure, but the way some books drag out the freaking out.... it annoys the crap out of me.

I found Flapjack to be highly annoying in this book. I seem to remember liking him. Now he comes off as cruel. I adore Gwen and Hayworth, though.

This mystery was interesting. I had the bad guy pegged soon as he was introduced. Then the author tossed in a heck of a red herring and I started to question myself. Good job on the author for doing that.

The ending was perfection and so sweet!

Looking forward to the next book and hoping it picks up speed and doesn't drag as much.

Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Scarlet is a young woman who since the age of eight has been able to see ghosts. The first ghost she ever saw was that of her cat who passed away. Her family was wealthy and at the age of 18 she went off to college and then decided to travel the world a bit. In her travels she met a lot of other ghost and other spiritual people trying to find answers of why she could see ghost. At some point her funds ran out and she had to move back home. At the time living with her parents not knowing what she was going to do she had an aunt passed away and left her a small amount of money and she decided it was time for a change. She started looking around to do some thing she wanted and decided to open a flower shop and moved to a small Oregon beach town and opened her flower shop. She lives in a small apartment above the flower shop and once a week holds a support group meeting for the local ghosts in her flower shop. With the ability to see and speak to ghosts she also helps solve murders mysteries and other crimes in her life. Follow long as her and her live friends including her boyfriend a security specialist and her ghost friends find out where the truth lies. Very entertaining and a fun read. Check it out.

Since Scarlet returned from New Orleans she has been wondering about her actual power to help ghosts cross. She comes across the ghost of a murdered woman, Sabrina, who has no idea who killed her but doesn’t want to stay around.
When Scarlet helps her cross, she finds out there could be problems. Karla who works at the funeral home where Sabrina seems to be tethered to, sees Scarlet send Sabrina away. Karla is a ghost summoner and has the ability to call ghosts who haven’t crossed into the otherworld. Sabrina is one of them. This leads to the discovery that Sabrina could be taken over by a demon which would be bad for everyone.
This book has an interesting mystery tracking down Sabrina’s killer. It also expands on the relationship between Lucas and Scarlet.
This investigation is helped out by the usual trio of ghosts, Flapjack is either funny or annoying, I haven’t really decided but I love him.
This is again a quick easy read with a good story, mystery, great characters, humour and of course a surprise ending.
Loving this series and looking forward to the next book.

What does a ghost whisperer bring to her new boyfriend's house when she visits for the first time? A growler of beer and an offer to look for ghosts. Lucas isn't excited that Scarlet's trio of ghosts came with her but they quickly depart to explore Seattle. There is nothing in the apartment but there is in the funeral home when Scarlet drops off flowers the next day. A recently murdered woman, Sabrina, just wants to move to the Other Side - a power Scarlet only recently (REALLY recently) discovered she has. But something goes wrong and funeral director Karla has to step in to make sure that Scarlet's new power doesn't let demons enter our world.
Lucas comes to visit and Scarlet actually introduces the topic of the next step in their relationship. Lucas instantly shuts down.
This series is my favorite of the Beechwood Harbor options so far. Scarlet and Lucas are steady without the threat of someone to create a love triangle and Scarlet and Lucas are growing throughout each book.

This series has truly taken over my heart and I find that I often am thinking about these characters when I'm not listening to the audiobook.

This book might be 4.5 stars. I really loved the ending and the message it sent. I also really like how Scarlett is setting boundaries for herself and really growing into her character.

This is a true found family story at its core and I really love it for that. I'm flying through this series and I am going to be so heartbroken to say goodbye to these characters. :(

Luckily, I still have a few books to go before I get there lol. I do plan on reading Holly's story after I finish this series, so I'll be able to get to know her better and get to learn about the other supernatural creatures in this world! I also really like Amanda Ronconi's storytelling, she does a really good job with the voices and bringing each character to life. :)

Onward to the next one!

Scarlett and Lucas are making long distance work while Scarlett figures out her ghost whisperer powers and magic. It’s a bumpy ride when she figures out something new on the magical side, while dealing with new ghost Sabrina. Sabrina is in a great deal of distress and can’t cross to the other side until her murder is resolved.

The pressure is on too for Scarlett, when Lucas accepts a new job and it’s on Seattle, only a few hours away and the company promptly sends him to Europe. Scarlett is thrilled her love Lucas is now closer and it’s a bummer he is away so quickly. Thankfully Scarlett has her friends in town, her adorable florist shop and her local ghost crew and ghost bestie Gwen, dependable Hayward and snarky hilarious ghost pet Flapjack.

Eventually Scarlett and team solve the murder, the villain is unmasked in a well done fashion and the ending is spectacular for obvious reasons, and a totally worthwhile read

Pass or No Pass

The Beechwood Harbour series are some of my 'must read right off the press' favourites. There's only a handful of authors in this group. So far I've read every BHS book published & intend to continue as long as Ms Garrett does.
Scarlet's powers continue to expand faster than she can figure them out. Between her ghost family, Gwen, Haywood & Flapjack the cat, Lucas, her boyfriend & yet another murder in the next small town over, Scarlet has more than enough to handle. Who killed Sabrina? Her ex-husband who wants more time with their teen daughter? Or is it connected to a dating all in her phone? What is funeral manager Karla's secret? The ending will surprise you as will a decision Scarlett believes she must make.
Though there's enough background into to read this as a standalone, I think you will want to read the rest of this series.

I am really liking this series. Love the cast of characters and ghosts, especially Flapjack, her ghost cat. Really enjoy the author's inclusion of humor throughout the book.

Enjoyed, as always

Daniell's books are delightful! Love the interactions Scarlet has with her three ghost friends. I didn't find Flapjack nearly as annoying, as in some of the other books. There were a couple new things Scarlet found out she could do. I liked how the new things added to the overall of the book. I'm glad Daniell thought to add them. Danielle has a very active imagination. It creates some very funny and interesting stories. I didn't think I'd like the paranormal in my mysteries, but I was wrong and I'm really glad I took a chance, and read one of Danielle's books. If you like a a good mystery and fun humor (not that corny stuff) then this book and all Danielle's books, are for you. Thank you Danielle for having your books in Kindle Unlimited.

I liked this one better than the last two books, so there’s that :). Scarlet is learning about her new powers and in so doing makes a major mistake. Anxious to rectify that mistake she has to solve the murder of the ghost she inadvertently may have damned, before… well evil comes to earth. Scarlett wants to be helpful, often with mixed results. In this case, Lucas, who has moved to Seattle for a new job, helps her to solve the mystery.

Lucas is now more aware of the paranormal world and I like that he doesn’t run scared, and used it to surprise Scarlett at the end. The book is also about changes and family.

Not my usual genre of book but I found this series because I was looking for books narrated Amanda Ronconi and I thought 'what the heck, I'll give it a try'. Well, I am so grateful I did. The stories are fun, the characters are interesting, and more importantly, the stories evolved and the writer matured the characters as the series moved forward. I often get frustrated when characters remain the same from book to book and as a result lose interest in the story line. FORTUNATELY, that isn't how Danielle Garrett managed this series. The character's maturing throughout the series made the stories more interesting and kept me engaged throughout.

I really liked this book in the series. I like how Scarlet is learning more about her abilities to not only see and speak with ghosts, but also help them move on. She even had to learn a hard lesson along the way. Once again, Scarlet and her 3 ghost friends help solve the murder of a new ghost visitor. I think one of my favorite characters is the cat, Flapjack. His dry sense of humor and sarcasm makes me laugh. Scarlet learns she has a new ability when dealing with ghosts that surprises even her trio of ghost friends. Mild romance, humor, solving a murder and plenty of ghosts in this book. Nice ending to the story too.

Another page flipper from Danielle Garrett. As Scarlet hones her newly discovered powers, she also discovers the pluses and minuses of actually using them. There's a good side and bad side to everything, I guess. She also - finally - informs Lucas about the paranormal beings inhabiting Beechwood Harbour, afraid, once again, that she'll scare him off. Not an option as you'll see by the end of the book. As usual, the mystery involves quite few twists and turns but it all comes right in the end.

Now on to #5.

Another great book!!!

I am glad Scarlett has taking her steps towards a future where she is where she wants to be and not pulled in a million directions! I can't wait to see what the next adventure she takes! Love Gwen, she is my home girl! I think if I were a ghost I would be like her and get the latest juicy gossip but I would also be like Flapjack with all his retorts. Scarlett's latest run in with a ghost was pretty scary. I hope it doesn't happen again. I could read these stories all day.

A middle aged mom found murdered. It’s a mystery as to Who, How & Why? Scarlett accidentally blunders into the deceased while at the funeral home. Having just learned about her power to sometimes be able to help earthbound ghosts to move on, she is pressured into trying. Big mistake!!
Luckily, the woman in charge of the funeral parlor knows how to help. Working against the clock Scarlett must solve the mystery so the ghost can more from the darkness into the light. Lots of action along with plenty of humor. 😍
