Review of “Visceral by Christine Morgan and PatrickC. Harrison lll”

A collection of body horror with 4 short stories from each author.

Where are you Ryan Harding? The forward for this book is just perfect. It has me on the edge of my seat waiting for more. He gives you just enough description of the stories to come. I appreciate the thought of not going into much detail as to not spoil anything for the readers.

Well here I go into these Visceral stories of collected flesh!

Going Green by Christine Morgan - A futuristic story of body modification from a girl’s POV. She must really love the planet or just wanted to make a statement and WOW those around her. Interesting concept.

Placenta by Patrick C. Harrison lll - Doctors telling their most absurd stories to each other. The first line starts with having a patient with a guinea pig up his rectum. The story can only get wilder from here. This could be a bizarro horror story.

Vicarious by Christine Morgan - If you could actually live vicariously through someone else by giving pieces of yourself, would you? . Seems like a cool idea but is it really? I guess it depends on what kind of experience you’re living through. Another cool concept story.

Full Moon Shindig by Patrick C. Harrison lll - This is definitely not the party I want to go to. Super sick 🤢🤮. Major TW here. Rich people seriously have nothing better to do. I’m so happy with how this story turned though. I’m ashamed to say I really liked this one. ⭐️

Little Fingers by Christine Morgan - OMG! This story is like turning off all the lights and just feeling/sensing what is happening. Then the story turns full circle and you realize what’s really happening. It’s so wrong when children are involved. I think figuring it out is the best part. ⭐️

Mildred’s Garden by Patrick C. Harrison lll- This is a fun little story about jealousy. You better check yourself before it comes back around to bite you in the ass.

Bad Tastes by Christine Morgan - A man with a taste aversion does everything he can to not TASTE again. Body modification story. This is the sort of stuff that has me so intrigued. ⭐️

Pigs by Patrick C. Harrison lll - On no!!! I wasn’t sure of this story when it started but damn why you gotta do me like this! No no no no no!!!! 😭 Absolutely my favorite in the collection. ⭐️

All the stories are fun and interesting but like all short story collections I tend to find a few favorites which I have starred. Overall I gave this collection 4 ⭐️.

The narrator is amazing! He has a gruff natural voice that is easy to settle into but he can change his voice to suit a character without a problem. I very much loved this narrator.

A well written introduction by Ryan Harding kicks off this unusual flesh feast of fiction. His overview of each short story equals that of Rod Serling himself as he roams through the Visceral Night Gallery, hesitating at each story to describe and express disturbing sentiments and foreshadowing that will become the readers experience.
Christine Morgan brings her familiar award winning twisted brand of horror to the pages yet again as she introduces new and fresh perspectives on extreme atrocities. From a gentleman who is determined to take full control over his taste buds while enduring gut wrenching self experimentations, to an overly generous man that becomes a bit too excessive with his addiction to blood and body donations. These imaginative creations are offered up by Christine, luring the reader to experience her inventive shocks, surprises and delightful twist endings.
Patrick C. Harrison puts the odd in oddity. With his no holds bar approach to writing, there will be plenty of sadistic cringe worthy moments for the reader. From a young man who chooses to alter his appearance and behavior in order to reach an animalistic simple lifestyle, to a house party that quickly escalates into a vengeful brutal massacre taking the form of a famous classic monster.
These two authors have accomplished some of the craziest concepts you will ever read. Rotating back and forth throughout the book, this duo compliments each other wonderfully enough to receive a Horror Bookworm 5 star review.

A wild collection from Morgan and PC3. Not quite as brutal as Visceral 2, but still pretty messed up. Stand out stories for me were Pigs, Little Fingers, and Mildred's Garden.

Gory read. Amazing the stuff these two writers come up with. I've read other books by them and have not been disappointed.

So many gems in this anthology. Christine Morgan's elegant prose and social commentary in Going Green are pure genius....'third generation gluten free vegan'. Patrick brings home the bacon with Pigs. You wont be forgetting this one in a hurry.

This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys the uncomfortable transformative power that is portrayed using medical or body horror. The alternation between the two authors had them battling to break each other's tension.

CM - Going Green - This was written in two parts that jumped back and forth… one part I really liked, the other was just ok.
PH - Placenta - This was very interesting and well written. Predictable, but in a good way.
CM - Vicarious - This one was excellent
PH - Full Moon Shindig - Funny little horror story with some uncomfortable situations
CM - Little Fingers - Fun story
PH - Mildred's Garden - classic horror
CM - Bad Taste - Creepy little story, reminds me of something that Chuck Palahniuk would write.
PH - Pigs - Predictable but fun.

Well, these were some interesting stories . I especially liked the last one, "Pigs" and "Going green", but ultimately they were all great.
