Billionaire businessman Jack Mason had devised the perfect strategy for keeping custody of his orphaned niece. He'd hire the right nanny and seduce her into marrying him. It should prove easy enough. He was, after all, irresistible. Annalise Stefano was ideal. The attractive new nanny had quickly bonded with the little girl. And Jack was anticipating their wedding night more than he'd imagined. Even so, he couldn't have predicted that Annalise wouldn't want to become his wife. Or that the secret she was keeping could jeopardize his plans for creating the perfect family....
I love family first and foremost, which is why writing family sagas and stories that involve family is so much fun. Maybe you can tell that from my books since they always feature the warmth and joy and ridiculousness that comes from having a close-knit family.
I also love animals and have taken in rescue dogs and cats and fostered dogs for the local animal shelter.
And of course, I love writing. All I need is a functioning brain (batteries not included), a pen, and paper, and I can write anywhere. Please don’t let a conversation with me lag because my imagination takes over and I. Am. Checked. Out!

After Jack Mason’s sister and brother-in-law die in a plane crash Jack is determined to get custody of their daughter (his 5-year-old niece Arabella). When his lawyer friend suggests Jack find a nanny and marry her to keep Child and Family Services away (who want to take Arabella from him) Jack knows this is something he must do. When lovely Annalise Stefano shows up for an interview, he finds the perfect lady who will fill these qualifications. What he doesn’t know is that Annalise is keeping a big secret of her own.
This was a very sweet romance. I enjoyed the storyline about Arabella and how she blossomed with the love and caring she got from Jack and Annalise. I liked the large dog (Madam) they adopted for her. Annalise was an outspoken and efficient heroine. Jack was a pretty decent and caring hero and really went out of his way to help his niece.
A thoroughly enjoyable read by Day Leclaire with a great ending.
If you don't like kids in your romance, this might be a hard sell for you. For that's a big part of this story. Billionaire, hard-working businessman, Jack Mason, has inherited his niece after the death of her parents (his sister and her husband) in a plane crash. His niece has serious emotional issues, and has managed to chase off every nanny Jack has hired thus far. Additionally, Child and Family Services is making noises about taking her away. His lawyer gives him one solution: marriage. Jack isn't ready for marriage, but he refuses to let go of his niece, even though she's adopted. So, he decides to advertise for a nanny, and convince her to marry him for two years.
When he has his interviews with nanny candidates, he's impressed with Annalise Stefano from the beginning. She's a good-looking woman, although understated. But she also has a calm, cool, collected demeanor he finds very appealing. And then, there is the masterful way she deals with Isabelle in full tantrum mode. He's a bit worried at her lack of experience, but circumstances occur that prompt him to hire her. She's definitely the best person for the job, able to bond with Isabelle, but also give her a sense of order and security, dealing smoothly with Isabelle's tantrums. Soon, it's clear that he can't keep his hands off her, and she seems to feel the same way. But Annalise is a person who tries to be control of herself at all times, and she wants to put Isabelle's needs first and foremost, which is what he wants too. Yet, he also wants her. He feels that the chemistry between them is too strong to resist. There were some interesting conversations regarding this issue that made me laugh.
The whole time, Jack is thinking about his master plan: marriage. He's sure Annalise is the right person for the job, in many ways. Jack is able to convince Annalise to marry him, and they form a very happy family. However, Annalise is keeping a whopper of a secret that will change things between them in a huge way.
I have to say that I loved this book. It was a slow evolution, although I knew that it was going to be a strong read from the beginning. Day Leclaire writes very well, and I thought her characters were very charismatic, from Jack to Annalise, to young Isabelle. Add in a pregnant Great Dane, and it's magic. But, the ending. Now that was just fantastic. That's what earned this book a five star rating. If a reader is too cynical to believe that lives can interconnect so seamlessly to form a perfect whole, then that reader won't like this book. However, I like to believe that we all go through rough experiences in our lives, but they have a reason, and they open doors to greater possibilities. This is one of those books.
If you don't care for kids in romances, I'd say give this one a try. It wasn't sappy. It was very well done. I don't see how it couldn't bring a tear to your eye.
Day Leclaire wrote a very emotional story about a so-called coldhearted businessman fighting for his adoptive niece custody, a traumatic 5 y old girl grieving the loss of her adoptive parents, a sunny nanny filling their ice cold life with warm and sunshine, and lets not forget a huge dog and 6 puppies thrown in the mix. The story is captivating, totally told from the hero POV. I cried, I laughed, I felt. A lot. I loved them all and I enjoyed their HEA.
Inherited One Child by Day Leclaire was a 5 star read for me. It reminded me of some those old Leclaire's I loved. Jack Mason is rich but he just lost his sister and her husband and may just lose his adopted niece. His niece was traumatized by her parents death and refuses to speak and nannies are difficult to hold on to. His friend suggests that if Jack wants custody he get married. Jack vowed never to get married since his father was awful to him but he doesn't want to lose Isabella.
While conducting interviews he meets Annalise who is all calm and put together and deftly handles Isabella but he rejects her since she doesn't have that much experience and he is attracted to her but circumstances lead to him hiring her. What I loved about the book, everything. It was sweet and I loved the verbal sparring between them. Annalise questioned Jack and made him see that his motivations for keeping Isabelle weren't what he thought, she made him live. I also loved the little moments these three had together especially the dog scene. Their marriage comes a little later and I loved how Jack falls for her, he doesn't try to deny it at all.
My second try at this author since I loved the first story I read by her so much. The writing is really good. I think this author would do well moving on from the category romances. I'd certainly buy her books. The characterization of the hero was great. The story was told from the hero's POV. The ending was predictable which wasn't the case with the other I read by this author. Still the story flowed well. Secondary characters were also good. I liked the heroine's father as he was not stereotypical at all. Why then only 3 stars? I liked it but it didn't suck me in and spit me out like Dante's Wedding Deception did. Still, I'm planning on working my way through DL's backlist.
I really enjoyed this story. I love that it was told almost exclusively from the hero's point of view. His relationship with his niece was hard to take at first, but as they warmed to each other I warmed to them. I really enjoyed the heroine, though toward the end she bothered me a bit.
Funny, sexy read. The scene with Madam is hysterical!! Go Annnalise! "Chocolate" and "Ginger ale"!!!! ROFLMAO
Okay. I kinda saw that coming with the hair and what happened at 16 and all. I'm torn about the little girl calling her "Mommy" at the end, though. I'm both relieved and a little torn because of her adoptive parents who perished prior to the beginning of the book.
Allin all. I goodread that was sweet, sexy, funny, and gut wrenchingly bittersweet.
Really good heart tugging story that had me tearing up a couple times. Pace, romance and action all good. Billionaire Jack had a plan to keep custody of his recently orphaned niece by hiring nanny Annalise then seducing her into marriage.
"Inherited: One Child" is the story of Annalise and Jack.
A beautiful story!
The hero is struggling to take care of his niece ever since he became her guardian after the death of her parents. Threatened by CPS, he is desperate to find a new nanny as she struggles with her temper and refuses to speak. The heroine interviews for him, and instantly sparks fly. She makes him hire her, and slowly makes a place for herself not just in their household, but also their heart. But what secrets is she hiding?
I adored how expressive and honest both the hero and heroine were. Heartwarming story, with strong leads, an unpredictable reveal and a heartwarming end.
I didn't like the plot at all. I don't particularly like stories in which heroine (or even a hero) gives child up for adoption, or stories in which hero (or heroine) get custody of a niece or nephew when sibling dies. Np.
Billionaire businessman Jack Mason had devised the perfect strategy for keeping custody of his orphaned niece. He'd hire the right nanny and seduce her into marrying him. It should prove easy enough. He was, after all, irresistible.

This is another of the "Billionaires and Babies" series. The characters are engaging. They made me laugh. Heartwarming story, well balanced with romance and humor. I loved seeing them interact as a "famliy" and kept rooting for them to make it work, for themselves and for Bella.
A very nice, actually extremely nice love story that embraces the relationship with a billionaire who accepts custody of his sister's adopted daughter and who must find a way to bring her out of the trauma of her parents' death. It is one of those warm fuzzy novels that is fun to read and yet isn't syrupy or overly huggy huggy, kissy kissy. The characters are definitely crafted out of real life complete with the governmental social services agency and the pressures families face in times of tragedy. A really good read that I liked a whole lot!
This Romance is about a man looking for someone to take care of his niece Isabella. Jack lost his sister and brother in law. He was now fighting custody for his niece. His lawyer suggestion the only way he was going to keep his niece Isabella was to marry. Jack swore he would not marry ever.
Jack has his reason for this. You find out about it in the book as your progress but he was looking for a nanny for his niece and did he find a wife he could not let go. There are secects that get revel though this romance book.
When. started this book I was looking for something short and sweet. Something to pass the time and light. This book is that and more.
The thing I loved the most is that it is from the MMC's POV. It is more common that it is from the female. Here, I could experience the development in the relationship dad/daughter in full.
I love to read the POV of the man, it is always so different and interesting. And it is so much better to keep the great secret in the hat until the last moment.
I ended up skimming through this book. The first 100 pages, including a case of near insta-love between the hero and heroine, all happened in the course of 1 day. It made it really difficult to believe in this relationship. There was also a big reveal near the end about The heroine's relationship to Isabelle and I found it all a bit too hard to believe. I really wanted to like this book but those were too big issues.
The emotions involved in the story, especially Jack's love for her niece and the heart breaking way the author described Isabella's feelings literally made me cry with sympathy. The pain Isabella must have felt were clearly shown. This shows how beautiful familial love. It is disappointing to know that the present media all portrays broken families, with their mistresses, divorce and grudge and anger towards each other.
Inherited is a re-read for me when I'm looking for a cute romance with likeable characters. The heroine is sensible, kind, and for a romance book, believable! I wish I could hug her! Overall, this is cozy pick-me-up when you need a little heart warming. Won't disappoint.
Omg I love this book not only is it the only HB that I've read in a all male POV from beginning to end by ms. Day is awesome the way she ended the book is totally perfect. Highly recommend
