After the EMP, Frank controls one street. A whole city surrounds him. Frank gets his people through the critical first days of the EMP disaster, but he knows his next choice could determine their fate months or even years down the road... Search for help using their bikes? Ally with strangers two blocks over? Turtle up and hunker down for the long haul? He discovers another option inside his neighbor's an ancient hot rod, immune to the effects of an EMP, is there for the taking. Going out could yield resources Frank needs to keep his people alive... ...or he could get them all killed on the lawless roads. Will he make the right call?
E.E. Isherwood has been a storyteller for over 30 years. Initially the muse took the form of childish comic strips. As a teen it manifested itself under the guise of Dungeons and Dragons adventures. In college it culminated with a Master's thesis on Missouri geography—an extremely boring kind of story. Three decades and several careers later he realized that siren song never stopped, so he began to author books. A life-long enthusiast of apocalyptic fiction, writing about zombies was his passion. Future titles in science fiction and fantasy are in the hopper. He lives in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where his series of zombie books takes place.
Good characters sticking together. A detailed account of what can happen if an EMP occurred. Frank's reading of novels has given him an incite into what to expect. I can imagine book 3 will continue to be worthwhile reading. I did speed read some pages of detail about an area or a, maybe, scenario, this book could've lost a good few pages without it affecting the story
So many times these books become a pulpit for the author to spout half baked conspiracy theories. I was so pleased to find an interesting story that didn’t,t blame everything on soft liberals to crazed government deep state agents. It’s a pleasant read with normal characters. Nice job
Neighborhood Watch 2 - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
The eponymous neighborhood residents of this pleasant, part-finished, new-build estate, have come face-to-face with a grim new reality, when tech and societal breakdown follow a devastating, Apocalypse-like EMP event. Trying to hold the survivors' group together is Frank, (whose wide scope of knowledge and wisdom comes from his private book depository at home). Things go from bad to violent worse, when Frank, Carmen, Ben and the others have to leave the safety of their neighborhood. Gritty, believable encounters with desperate, injured and frightened survivors, and gunfights with marauders intent on stealing their stuff, makes the early days of the new dystopian reality, a nightmare battle for survival of the fittest. Who makes it back home - and who pays the ultimate price for their bravery? Get a copy of EE Isherwood's adrenaline-pumping 'what if...?' thriller, Neighborhood Watch 2 to find out!
Being ex-military gun fan and a prepper at heart, I must say the author has nailed it. Great story line which underlines how unprepared most people will be if the shit hits the fan, in so many possible ways. I have a 5000 liter water storage tank that would get me and my wife (and dog) thru a long dry period. If you don't think your normal existence can change in a heartbeat ( political or social upheaveal) and prepare for it, without going too crazy, you are sadly mistaken.
An El Camino is not a pickup truck. It’s a car with a birth defect. All those bags of sand and gravel plus seven people would break the axles. It’s ridiculous to suggest it could pull a loaded two-axle flatbed trailer, even if there was a way to connect it. 1970 El Caminos don’t come with class IV trailer hitches. Even if they did, you certainly could not do 80 mph with such a trailer, or “pull a U-turn” as reported. The author doesn’t know much about guns either. The idea of “shoot through the engine block” is ridiculous.
This is the second in what I HOPE will turn into a series of at least 10 books! Excellent characters give us near non-stop action in a well-written apocalyptic series. Isherwood is one of my favorite authors because his characters are usually very ordinary until they are forced into a situation. This particular tale of an EMP disaster is a great example of that talent. It’s quite unique in its location and I enjoyed it very much.
This was okay. Honestly, though, I was a bit bored. I like to feel like I’m in the story, but sometimes the details are just TOO MUCH. I don’t need to know he drove right, then left, right and right, then finally left again. At some points, it also felt like I was watching someone going on side quests on a videogame.
Other than that, pretty cool. Not sure how I feel about the delicate alliance with Zen, must everyone be dangerous? Can’t we catch a break sometimes?
E.E. Isherwood tells a fascinating story in book 2
Frank is leading the neighborhood and trying to get them motivated. He has read books on disasters like EMP's and other type of catastrophes. Can they get supplies for the neighborhood or not? It's only been a couple days what will happen next?
continues the quick spiral of lawlessness that will happen if a situation of apocalypse were to happen. This book just covers a few more days from the first. Seems to be a realistic possibility and emphasizes first steps, but flexibility in changing priorities based on rapidly changing events.
Frank and his neighbors are holding it together. But they have to make a supply run through some people that are not. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The end of the world as we know it is not a safe place. I can't wait to start the next book in the series.
This storyline rings with truth and daring. A leader is needed, someone who can think despite all the noise of life going south fast! Getting used to all of our players is comfortable. I just wish there could be some downtime from all the fear, the exhaustion and the stresses of getting to the next minute.
Ok still a really good story, but as having owned an El Camino, I would have to say you were just a bit unrealistic with its usefulness as a pickup truck. Elcos are based on the chevelle chassis so just like a medium sized car but only 2 doors So I took away one star. Still a great story though. On to mu.her 3
It starts out pretty much the same as other books. However, the main character allegedly only knows what he reads so is attempting to lead with only that knowledge. I just don't get why so many times anyone doesn't want to shoot someone that is trying to kill them. That, to me, is a common flaw in so many of these books.
I couldn't even finish this book. So incredibly slow. Most of the book takes place in a store with the characters trying to get stuff they will need. What should have been a chapter is 3/4 of the book. Gave up. They are probably still in the store.
The characters development has been with each book. The main character has a bit of knowledge on surviving the disasters coming their way. His willingness to share and be honest about the future struggles to come is refreshing after so many doom and gloom plot lines. I'd recommend this series to anyone!
I love that the main character is older than the usual 20 something guy. However the main character is starting this disaster a bit ahead of the curve. The books are also fast only covering a few days at most. On the up side it really covers what needs to occur to keep you and your people alive in a disaster. Having funds and supplies is not always enough.
This is a good 👍solid series. You will enjoy the action as it is non stop and the characters are in teresting and believable. Our hero is take charge without being a bigger than like superman. I look forward to the next book.
Great if looking for a "feel good" story. Moves along at a fairly slow pace, easy to understand reading. Not sure if I will read the next book in the series, leaning towards looking for something better suited for me to read.
gather friends who step up when the going gets serious. Frank does the thinking again to benefit the cove Family. remember which stores have what you will need to survive it us not always the biggest box store.
Just the right amount of tension! Too many books are downers. It is nice to see some positive outcomes! Plot is very good. Situations make sense. Characters are fleshing out and likeable. I want the next book soon.
End of society as we know it! Great characters banding together, led by a retired neighbor, fighting to stay ahead of society collapsing. I urge you to read it! You'll like it! Waiting for the next book!
I have been a prepper of sorts for most of my life. We kind of keep to the shadows because most people think it is weird. So, I enjoy getting lost in novels about, well...me. Frank is us. Can't wait to see where he takes the Neighborhood Watch series next.
Fast moving, great new perspective, well written, loved the twists and turns, great build ups to every change. EE Isherwood is truly a great writer. Loved every minute of Neighborhood Watch..
The second book was as good as the first. The situations seemed reasonable for the story and the characters were well written. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to what happens in the next book. A definite recommend.
Guess Frank has been put on the top shelf of the ladder by his neighbors. He has no choice but to be the leader Nice to know that’s there are still some out there who are one step ahead of the others. Keep on going Uncle Frank
Okay. Book two finished. Good story. Drama was tense enough to make me almost miss supper (and that says alot about the story). Moving on to book 3 tomorrow and looking forward to it.
Better than a lot of the pepper tales because it tells the tale with no attempt to make the hero all-knowing and able to make decisions unerringly with understanding of what the enemy will do. The confusion of an EMP shows throughout.
I honestly can't believe how great all of the books by this author are. Minus America was incredible but this one hits home because.... well it's based near where I live. Truly Wonderful !
