She didn't know aliens existed until today. Now she belongs to two of them.

When alien warriors landed on Earth and carried her off, they didn't pick Flora Hays at random.

They came for their mate.

She will be stripped bare, spanked until she begs them to claim her, then tamed with one desperate, shattering climax after another as they mount and ravage her.

But she will do more than just take what they give her. The elemental power they wield can be channeled only by one like her, and with their fire burning within her she will fight by their side.

Publisher's Controlled is a stand-alone novel which is the first book in the Exchanged Power series. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

This isn’t a love story. This isn’t about submission.

This is about a culture where women are subjugated with no choices and no voice

Tripped the ick factor fast and never let up. Gross. I honestly thought it would get better.

DNF @ 38%

This week I went on a buddy read smut binge with several friends and this was the sci-fi entry, and it didn’t work for me at all.

The blurb sets it up mostly, Flora has been living on Earth when she learns she’s an alien and part of a triad with secret powers. (source, conduit, control) Unfortunately for Flora, the only way to really control these powers is to be “controlled” by her mates and her “willful earth ways” cause her to be spanked punished constantly.

Bottom Line- This is the first book, but I constantly feel lost and bored, so I’m calling it.

Fun space opera worldbuilding and space political intrigue form the setting for a very--VERY--iddy D/S MFM spanking erotica alien abduction (only not really) romance. Like, I was into the worldbuilding but had to speed along (my eyes rolling) a few times during the "your true nature is to submit to two total strangers you just met like 20 minutes ago" bits. Doesn't take itself too seriously, which made things fun for me.

This isn’t my trope.

About once a year, I try reading a book with this specific trope in it. And once a year I am reminded that I do not like it. The world building was interesting enough for me to read it all the way to the end, but I did have some questions on the magic system that weren’t completely answered as far as I’m aware. But I did skim some parts pretty heavily so maybe it was there and I just missed it. If you are a fan of TPE this might be for you. But it’s not for me.

I found the decree of submission by the female protagonist from two men to be too degrading! Submission is one thing. Being beaten with a cane is not caring or loving or teaching your mate anything but fear. She gives in and accepts it because she had no choice. I did not feel any love or affection in the relationship.

DNFd at the beginning.

This review is more for myself so that if I rediscover this series and forget why I stopped reading.. I'll remember.

I've read plenty of dark romance, even books with noncon/dubcon if its done properly can be good..but what I do not like reading is a society where women are forced to be submissive because of a worlds "societal standards" instead of it being because it's a consented to dynamic.

The FMCs father holds her grandmother's life above her head all so she will agree to r*p3d by her triad and 'learn her powers' for a war, isn't where it's at.

Maybe this series has a happy ending where the women aren't controlled physically and sexually at some point... but I don't care enough to finish it to find out. The beginning of this book made my blood boil. Like cool...alien men behaving JUST LIKE earth men controlling women for "mystical purposes" aka religion. Yeah, I'll pass, we get enough of that in real life, thanks.

I have read better versions of this book. The story just pissed me off, I finished it out of spite. The world building could have been interesting. I have liked some books in this genre but this one in particular does something I really dislike. Which is to “discipline” a grown adult with abuse and threats and portray them as if it’s for their own good outside of the bedroom. The MC was gaslit into believing that her partners cared for her by making sure to flog her every time she expressed any emotion or opinion that isn’t complete submission. Which by the way they can read minds and can make sure of her complete submission. No wonder her mom and grandmother ran away.

Even beyond the poorly paced story by throwing you into a rushed exposition of the background of this alien race and their war, they use, abuse and auction the alien women, a lot of times against their will (which is why they started hiding from the men) because they’re essentially used as weapon to fight wars.

What a book lol.

10% DNF

I don't write reviews.

This book is not a romance. Yes, I only made it 10%, but the sheer amount of reckoning that would have needed to take place in order to make me, the reader, OKAY with the stuff that went down in the first 10% was 100% impossible.

Again, this book is not a romance. It is horror. It gets rapey af, quick af, and the FMC does not consent to the spice WHATSOEVER. She consistently, repeatedly, tells the MMCs that she does not want/enjoy/morally excuse their actions. She is violated, humiliated, and belittled (and her internal dialogue is categorizing the experience thus - this is not me interpreting the experience).

But for some reason the author never lets her think the word "rape." The term "rape" is never used to describe the actions of the male aliens, because I presume the author intended to allow whatever cultural excuses were in play to eventually sway both the FMC and me, the reader. There was absolutely no universe where I was going to find something romantically salvageable after those first couple of chapters.

If you are like me, and genuinely enjoy when indie authors spin a story of people connecting romantically in outrageous or seemingly-impossible circumstances, then do not read this book. The only possibly acceptable narrative direction this book should have gone in, was one where the FMC escapes her abusers and goes on to survive with or without romance. If that's actually what happens in this book, feel free to comment and I'll try reading it again. Because, as I mentioned, I did not f**king finish it.

complete submission

Let me start by saying the ability this author has to tell a story is awesome. I read multiple stories a day that are generally from genres that include science fiction and paranormal romance. There have been plenty of times I have DNFed a book simply because I couldn’t get past the writing. That was not an issue with this author.
However, I repeatedly considered stopping with this story because it was a hard pill to swallow. In almost every story I have read, wether it be alpha and Omegas or even dark fantasies, the hero, who could even be a villain in some, had some sort of redeeming qualities that you found out about by the end of the story. With this story that never occurred. It wasn’t just the heroine’s mates it was their society’s way of treating women who were conduits. We are talking full submission in and out of the bedroom that included being punished with rods and crops for losing their temper when their sibling was being hauled away to be auctioned or even openly voicing their opinion on things. The heroine is repeatedly told her mates can have any hole they want of hers at any time. She is never allowed to refuse even if it was in the middle of groups of people. She not only had no say over her own body or how it was used, her mates wouldn’t even allow her to touch them or see them with their clothes off unless they decided to indulge her as a treat for being a “good girl”.

Flora thought her life was normal. Her grandmother wanted her girls to find love and get married. But things are about to take a 180. Commander Draven has found Iris and is taking her back to face charges. But things aren’t what they seem for Flora and her sisters. Lies have been told. And how is she and her sisters not from Earth? When it started it seemed a normal day. Then BANG, we have aliens and abduction. We learn about why Flora and her sisters were taken away and what their purpose is. She has to mate with two males: a controlled and a source. She is the conduit. I definitely did not like her father. There was something he wasn’t saying. I loved Noratu. As one of her triad, he seemed the charmer. There were times where I thought how they treated her wasn’t fair. I could understand her anger. But views are not the same with all races. And what is the real deal with Iris? She is hiding something. Aspen and Raina will need guidance and someone to truly love and protect them. I can’t wait to find out who. And will Cylex be part of it?.

This book is many things all at once - sci-fi with incredible world building, steamy nsfw scenes, intrigue, and action all rolled up in a ‘why choose’ romance. Science fiction has been my jam ever since I was a little girl and there are many good writers of sci-fi in the romance genre but Ivy is near the top for me - I love her writing so much. The way she weaves the threads of the plot together always keeps my attention grabbed from start to finish.

The story starts with a bang and gets right to it - Flora is not the human she thinks she is and her mates are here to get her and her sisters and take them back to their real home. Secrets have been kept from them aside from their alien-ness - hidden talents, family history, betrothals… If I were Flora I would have been a lot angrier at her grandmother than she was. The concept of the triad that Flora and her mates form was interesting and unique as well. And her mates are very spanky guys… this pleased me.

The whole plot kept my attention riveted and the only thing I was able to figure out early on - happily - was that at least two more books are coming from this series that will centre on the two sisters.

This is the first book in a new series. Flora thinks that she is human, but her grandmother and mother stole her and her two cousins and moved them to Earth. When she starts dreaming about handsome aliens, she talks to her grandmother, Iris. Iris knows that the aliens will find her and the girls. Flora's mates have come to have her. On Altora, women are bred to be submissive to their husbands, women on Earth are not and poor Flora is human in her thinking. She gets her first discipline from her mate as soon as she gets on the ship. Draven and Noratu are her mates and she needs to learn to obey. There is a HEA for Flora and her mates.

I enjoyed this story. Ivy Barrett is a wonderful author and her books are full of spankings and other discipline. This book is a great start to the series and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Flora (h), her sisters and grandmother are taken from Earth to planet Altor by Draven (H) and Noratu (H) who insist that she’s their mate to control and dominate if every possible way. Flora has to adjust to her new life with Master D and Master N as they teach her how they expect her to behave for her masters, with spankings and rough sex. She struggles to reconcile how she’s been brought up on Earth with the lies that prevented her from knowing her true nature. Flora is just as vital to Draven and Noratu as they are to her, and they have to learn to work together to defend Altor. Plenty of hot and sexy that keeps building throughout the book. If dominant partners, spanking and rough sex aren't your thing, then this isn't the book for you. Did I mention there's a lot of hot menage action?

Power of the Triad…

Wow what an awesome start to a new series as we follow the Hayes sisters/cousins Aspen, Raina and Flora, who at a young age were stolen away by their mother and grandmother, Iris, and hidden on earth, but once the dreams start to commence their grandmother Iris knew their time in hiding is up..
In this book we follow the youngest sister Flora and her promised mates Commander’s Draven and Noratu as they guide her through the complex process of their powerful triad involving the Controller (Draven), Source (Noratu) and the Conduit (Flora).
There is quite a bit going on in this book from intrigue, drama and suspense to super intense scenes between Flora and her mates that definatly for me made this a hard to put down read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

It was alright for a sci-fi RH romance

2.5 star rating for this book.

I found it to be alright for being a sci-fi RH romance. Being it is a sci-fi, the species and their culture were understandable, even if I did not agree with how the female population were treated. I felt as if females were just tools for the controller and conduit. I didn't feel like the trios relationship was love, at all, but master and slave type.

The storyline itself was a decent one. My disagreement with the culture and treatment of the female population doesn't change my opinion of the storyline.

Will I continue the series? Probably not, as I found it hard to keep reading when it comes to the relationship parts of the trio. I really don't think the remaining installments to the series would be any different.

What a great start to a brand new series, absolutely brilliant!! The storyline was supurb and if your a lover of these wonderful books by Ivy Barrett then you know there will be definitely be spanking and other punishment scenes!
In this story Flora Hays finds out the hard way that there are aliens around when they come knocking at their door. As it so happens her grandmother has kidnapped her and her three cousins and taken her to earth in hiding, hoping that they will find human men and settle down with them. However Flora starts dreaming of men pleasuring her. Soon it becomes a reality but she must accept who she really is.
Commander Draven and Noratu are her mates and she is the conduit but they soon learn she is so much more as well!!

Flora’s been lied to for years. She’s been promised to become part of a Triad with Noratu and Draven, who will teach her how to control her emerging Altorian powers. What she finds out is the way to control her powers is through their dominance and her submission. Having been raised on Earth, Flora struggles and conflicts arise. A darkly erotic and well written story, the author will have you fully immersed in the experience of their journey to complete their objective. Awesome worldbuilding and great character development. This is a fast paced entertaining story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The first book in the Exchanged Power series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Flora, and her cousins Cara and Raina have been raised to believe they are human. Flora meets Draven and Noratu who come for the woman who is the other part of their tirade and that is how she learns what her Grandmother Iris and her Mother have kept from them. The story has drama, suspense, lies, danger, villains, submission, and romance. I can not wait to find out who Cylex really is. Ok overall, the concept of the story is good.

But there just feels like there something missing. There isn’t that much explanation into the back ground of everything or it feels like it is just glossed over quickly.
She gets very little explanation into everything and it’s just ok with everything really quickly. She was raised to be independent and suddenly has no say in everything but is fine with it. Whenever she raises and opinion or asks questions she is quickly subdued - just doesn’t sit quite right. Fairly heavy on the submission (borderline forced submission) and punishment.

This was so good, I loved it…
I couldn’t put it down. I had to force myself to stop reading long enough to catch a few hours of sleep before the sun came up.
Everything Flora Hayes thought she knew about her life was a lie. What started as a dream quickly turned into so much more when her life was turned upside down by the arrival of Draven and Noratu. Nothing would ever be the same… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

This book was so good that I had to finish. Flora Hayes knew nothing about aliens and finds out that everything she knew about her life was a lie. She was having dreams and she finds that they are true when Draven and Noratu show up. This was an intense, exciting and steamy story, with spankings, and intense sexual scenes. I loved the story.

I liked the characters, Fiona, Draven and Noratu. It is an alien abduction romance (yes, there is such a thing!), but the aliens are not all that different from humans. There is some works-building, but most of the book takes place onboard spaceships or at a training facility called The Citadel. There is a secondary character, Cylex, that bears watching, and I hope we hear his story in a subsequent book. I enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it.

Steamy

A new concept for a BDSM Ménage book . A woman and her two sisters were raised on Earth believing they were human but alas they really are Altorian and are part genetically created with mysticism thrown into the mix. They are meant to function in a triad two males one female and after they gain her complete submission they become a weapon to be used to stop a never ending war with the least casualties possible

Interesting series

To say that this book is interesting and a concept I’m not sure I’ve seen before is impressive. The way the author was able to make me hate and love the MMCs throughout the story. I mean there were times where they would be dominant and a-holes. But then turn around later in the story and use more reason with punishment. Even if it was flawed alien logic. I definitely think I’m going to read the next books. I really want to read about Cylex’s story.

interesting world and I wish to explore more

There is so much promise in this book, it was beautifully written. It all happened so fast though, it’s tough to believe the connection between the 3 characters. There are gaps in there relationship, with time I can imagine how strong and successful the 3 could be together. Definitely interested to read on and learn more about this world and what happens to the cousins.

Interesting concepts hot plot

I liked that this moved more towards Sci fi romance with an actual plot and details rather than "it is bc I say it is" attitude some authors have towards plot. I liked the seriousness of Draven and the playful charm of Noratu and the stubbornness of Flora the most.

Controlled by Ivy Barrett book 1

This is a very dark alien romance, I like dark romance with HEA.

But there are parts of the book I found uncomfortable and compelling at the same time. Which is uniquely strange

The title of the book is very clear of its topic and the characters are in a ménage relationship.

And I enjoyed reading it
