Author Francis Fernandez-Carvajal makes generous use of the writings of the great saints as he brings you focused and moving meditations on themes taken from the Mass readings for that day, the liturgical season, and more. This work is rich and extensive enough to serve as your spiritual reading for a lifetime, as it helps you relate the particulars of the message of Christ to the ordinary circumstances of your day. Each volume is small enough for you to carry it to Adoration or some other suitable place for meditation. The whole set comes with a handsome slipcase that prevents wear-and-tear on the individual volumes.

This book concludes with the Memorial of Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12th, one of my favorite Marian apparitions. It was my first parish church, where I was baptized, made my First Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. I graduated 8th grade from the Our Lady of Guadalupe grade school and was selected to be one of the court in the May Crowning we had every year. Nothing to do with this book, I know, but this is just one instance where this book brought back memories of my Catholic upbringing. Very traditional. And excellent resource. Not exhaustive, but what is here is authoritative.
October 24, 2020: Nothing for the Feast of St. Anthony Mary Claret which is today, but there was an entry for Our Lady of the Pillar on October 12th, which I had never heard of. Would not have even known of this Marian title except that my parents belong to a parish by this name. Also, September 24th, there is an entry for Our Lady of Ransome, for a Spanish apparition but nothing about Our Lady of Walsingham, the important Shrine in England which is celebrated on that same day. Definite slant to Spanish feasts and saints.
I began using this series of devotionals soon after my conversion so I've been reading them fairly steadily for 10 years. The amazing thing is that they never get old and I consistently find inspirational material in them.
I haven't read them for several months but have picked up the Advent volume and figured I might as well also keep up with this book which focuses on special feast days. Just in time, too, as the Immaculate Conception novena began and reading this book's excellent meditations on Mary's role in salvation is very appropriate to Advent.
The daily devotionals in this series of books is outstanding! There is always - ALWAYS - something that seems to speak directly to me. They put faith into daily practice in a very practical way.
