Dear Sir...

Lonely, poor, and pushing forty, Wu Xingzi doesn't have much to live for. In fact, the only thing he has going for him is the perfect funeral plot he's picked out for himself... That is, until he stumbles across the Peng Society and their monthly volume of personal ads for gay men.

At first, he's just looking for friendship with like-minded people, but when he finds out that it's customary for members to respond to polite letters with shockingly detailed ink drawings of their, ahem, intimate anatomy, Wu Xingzi quickly gains a new purpose in life: collecting phallic illustrations through the pigeon post!

There's just one problem. His favorite two-dimensional specimen belongs to a man who's intent on thrusting himself into Wu Xingzi's life in a very real, firm, three-dimensional fashion…

Continuing with this series so more conscientious don’t have to. The basic story remains good. Wu Xingzi, the forty-year-old civil servant who has neither looks nor grace, money nor prospects, continues his relationship with Guan Shanjin, the young, handsome and vigorous war hero general feared by all.

The start is really sweet. The general accompanies Wu Xingzi to the latter’s home village during the New Year to pay respects to his ancestors. The villagers are baffled to see them after months of absence. Half of them were sure Wu Xingzi would return a dumped man and when that hasn’t happened, decide that he must have used sorcery to bewitch the general. The rest of the village is ready to defend Wu Xingzi with fists and brooms. They win.

Wu Xingzi is prepared to stay home for good and let the general go. More so after the rumour circulating the village reach him that he’s only a substitute for Mr Lu, the general’s beloved teacher. But the general has other ideas. He even becomes violently jealous when Wu Xingzi shows him his treasured collection of dick pictures he’s received through the Peng Society.

In a fit of rage the general tears some of them, causing the old man great distress. The pictures were the only thing that kept him from killing himself for loneliness and he had counted on them to keep him company after the general leaves him. His sorrow was so real that I cried with him for the loss and for his loneliness.

But Wu Xingzi never clings to sorrow, and Guan Shanjin’s genuine remorse mollifies him. After the general replaces the torn pictures, he’s ready to follow him back to the Horse-Face city. But there Wu Xingzi again finds himself ignored for Mr Lu. The teacher’s wedding preparations with miss Yue take the general’s time. At first, Wu Xingzi doesn’t think it odd, but when both Mr Lu and Miss Yue constantly rub it in his face that the general prefers Mr Lu, even someone as slow and goodnatured as him is forced to come to a conclusion that he’s not needed. Problem is, despite his best intentions, he’s fallen in love with Guan Shanjin.

Little does he know that the general has already grown out of love with Mr Lu, and is prepared to spend his life with Wu Xingzi, mostly because he doesn’t bother to tell it to the older man. He needs a distraction while he prepares an attack against the Yue family, and doesn’t want to involve Wu Xingzi. But when he finally has time for the older man, Wu Xingzi is already gone.

The volume ends there. It’s followed, however, by two extra chapters in “alternate” universe that are basically really bizarre rape porn. You’d best skip them completely for the sake of your ability to continue to respect the general and for your mental health.

Like in the first volume, there are numerous long and unrealistic sex scenes. I think the author has based their idea of gay sex on omegaverse BL, because I don’t think men’s bodies behave quite that way. While I didn’t mind them as such, I rolled my eyes a few times. In bed, the general is rather forceful, making poor Wu Xingzi suffer a lot, no matter how much the older man likes it. Outside the bed, he’s caring and loving, looking after his older lover very well. He doesn’t realise it himself that he’s falling in love. I like how he sees the old man as he is, not attractive at all, yet he can’t help preferring him to the supremely beautiful Mr Lu.

For his part, Wu Xingzi is yet to realise he’s not as alone as he believes. He’s made friends who are prepared to go to great lengths to ensure his happiness. It remains to be seen whether the winners are those who thinks he’ll be happiest without the general or those who think he should end up with him. I definitely want him to find all the happiness, so I have to keep reading on.

"Don't overthink it. Fate is out of our hands. Rather than dwelling on those who have died, why don't you allow yourself to live?"

description

Reading this book makes me reflect on how romantic relationships are unique and multifaceted. They don’t all work the same way. What may bring joy and fulfillment to one couple could be completely destructive to another. There’s a beauty in these differences, even though they inevitably come with both happiness and pain. This volume dives into that complexity, exploring relationships in a way that feels raw and honest.

The story continues to follow the unlikely pairing of Wu Xingzi, an unassuming middle-aged civil servant, and Guan Shanjin, a powerful war hero general. Their relationship is a rollercoaster of sweet moments, tension, and emotional vulnerability. The narrative balances humor and heartbreak, with side characters and community dynamics adding depth to the story.

That said, fair warning: this book is spicy. It’s a heady mix of 50% steamy, no-holds-barred action and 50% engaging story. The balance might not be for everyone, but if you’re open to a bold and sensual narrative, it delivers on both fronts. While the explicit scenes are frequent and intense, they reveal key aspects of the characters’ personalities and highlight the complexities of their evolving bond.

The characters continue to grow, and their interactions feel intense yet surprisingly human. The blend of vulnerability, miscommunication, and passion keeps you hooked. The story delves into themes of loneliness, love, and self-worth, making it more than just a surface-level romance.

Hello from the gutters where my mind and I dwell in unabashed happiness.

So make no mistake - this is the filthiest smut I have read in years … the two extras where so prawny I actually got bored of sex…. For a minute and a half …. It was a lot to…Ahem… take in…. See ? I need to check into Danmei rehab now!

But I won’t because I am enjoying this too much. YOU’LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE MUWAHAHAH!!!

There is indeed so much fluids squishing and spurting one can assume a normal person might turn into a mummified husk but our heroes, FOR HEROES THEY ARE, indulge in impossible contortions with curious anatomical gymnastics and survive.

For a man of small physique and an appetite of ten burly men both in bed and in culinary aspects our bottom is surprisingly and convincingly as innocent as a dove. Never in fiction was there a man both timid and sweet who is also 100% all about big cocks.

The author also manages to weave in some intrigue and an angsty romance.

I really don’t care if the author is a bit dodgy - her writing warms my heart and….ummm… ANYWAY!

A filthy darling little number. Can’t wait to indulge in volume 3.

I can't believe how much engrossed I am with this series, considering how smutty it is. Probably why I don't give it more than four stars. Plot wise I love it, it has political intrigue, ex-lovers, war brewing, a normal danmei. And the emotions! Wu Xingzi needs to be protected at all cost! But the smut is a bit too much for me... I don't like danmeis to be too smutty. So for this one sometimes I skeem through the pages (YES PLURAL) of it. But otherwise it's really fun!

This book is very underrated. It's a precious book. Xingzi is a very lonely man who doesn't have the confidence in being able to be with someone like Guan Shanjin. This volume made me cry because after GSJ took him to his home, there was so many enemies or advasaries that were extremely cruel and mean to Xingzi, which Xingzi has a heart of gold and is a very gentle soul, he didn't deserve to be bullied the way he did, especially right where it hurts.
He'd be called: old, ugly, decrepit, a poor filthy pig that shouldn't be near the General. Even if XZ never shed tears for it, he still shrunk back and left.
GSJ was not careful, and instead of communicating all the way with his old quail, I don't think Xingzi would have left. GSJ very quickly fell in love and was preparing everything to just live a happy life with WXZ, but in a state of carelessness, he chose to wait to tell WXZ his plan of destroying a currupt noble family that was using him and Mr. Lu; in the process only allowing for those around WXZ to influence him to leave back to his home town. When he saw that his love left, he coughed/vomited up liters of blood, for hit nearly destroyed his meridians. I almost cried. He was so broken. 💔
The Pengornis Owner is hilarious! I ship him with the General's henchman. And even though he pissed me off because he took WXZ away, he still did it with good intentions. He didn't want to see WXZ hurt anymore. He gave WXZ that option and he took it.
Overall, I cried a lot because I related with WXZ in the sense that you feel unworthy, ugly, and would rather just obsess over your collections that bring you solace. Literally me with Danmei.
This volume gets a 4.7/5!

BTW, the amount of smut in this volume, especially the extras, is insane...! I'm over here fanning myself because omg! Be warned!

I still adore Wu and dislike Guan. Wu is very sweet and cares about everyone around him. He is more worried about others being hurt than himself. Even though he feels as if he doesn't have anyone, he does. Auntie Liu, Rancui, Mint, Osmanthus, Hei-er all care about him and it's nice to see. Especially because they stand up for him because he won't stand up for himself. I don't like how Guan treats him. Through out this book it becomes clear that he does care about Wu. But that doesn't excuse the way he treats him. Guan finds out he cares about Wu more than Mr. Lu about half way through. Now on to Mr. Lu and Yue Mingzhu. I absolutely hated them and the way they treated Mr. Wu. That being said I did like Yue a little more at the end of the novel where she rips Mr. Lu a new one. Still dislike her for her treatment of Wu though. As per the spicy scenes I still have the same opinion as in my last review. The anatomy just doesn't make sense. It kind of feels like they are just writing straight spice and switched up the genders to make it yaoi. Also feels a little yucky considering the authors homiphobic views. Not to mention the extra was so weird and disparaging of intersex people. Not to mention why does this author keep bring up bladder functions it's weird.

What I really enjoyed about this volume was watching Guan Shanjin suffer when things didn’t go his way. I’ve read plenty of manhwas where the main lead is ignored or mistreated by a rival or even the love interest, so it was hilarious to see Wu Xingzi genuinely not care and watching that backfire on both Teacher Lu and Guan Shanjin was satisfying.

Every character seems to have some sort of scheme that involves Wu Xingzi, meanwhile, all he wants is to go home and collect more dick pics in peace. But since self-awareness is one of Wu Xingzi’s strengths, he starts to realize he’s developing feelings for Guan Shanjin. The problem is, while they do communicate, they’re asking all the wrong questions. And with Guan Shanjin still showing affection toward his teacher, Wu Xingzi is left with no doubt he’s just the substitute. Luckily, Wu Xingzi's other strength is his self-respect. He’s no longer willing to entertain Guan Shanjin’s messy relationship if it means getting caught in between him and his teacher. Let the cute quail enjoy his hobby.

Though the premise started with Wu Xingzi’s fascination with dick pics, it’s become more about his sexual deprivation and loneliness. He questions why he feels such a strong connection to these illustrations, realizing they offer a sense of companionship that he fears he’ll never find in real life. The comfort lies in knowing these drawings won’t abandon him. He may not yet recognize what’s in front of him or that it might be worth fighting for, but he finds contentment in simply owning a beautiful piece of land and buried in a quality coffin to protect him from any floods. It’s a sad resolution, but one that highlights his quiet strength of choosing himself. Wu Xingzi gives and gives with no expectations, only the hope of being thought of with love. And for once, he’s gifting something for himself.

Wu Xingzi reminds me a little bit of myself. He's a little bit clueless and not fit for politics or dealing with other people's politics. He doesn't fit in and he's sort of aloof. He's happy gardening and just living a simple life. I sort of love him.

This book has gotten funnier and funnier. I love how these people plot around Wu xingzi and he gives earnest answers and they think he's somehow this genius smacking them down. Their own thoughts are defeating him. I love that.

General Guan Shanjin doesn't seem to have loyalty to any one person, but by the end of the book, I think it's obvious that he does have feelings for Wu Xingzi. Bless his heart.

I love the ending of this. I tell you what. All these people thought they were going to use Guan Shanjin and he certainly showed them. Never make this man your enemy. He will destroy you.

This silly thing makes me laugh and just makes me happy. I love this silly story. It's the spiciest story I've read since Anne Rice's Beauty series. It is spicy and that's nice to have something like that.

Again, I say, she really understand gay people. This is like talking with my gay friends in college again. I love it.

Once again I could see how this book could be jarring for some who have read many Danmei before as I have but I just adored the uniqueness of it all.
The dynamic between the main characters is just so interesting and captivates you right away.
I love how aloof the MC is and how possessive yet kind of clueless the ML is when it comes to romance…
No clueless Isn’t the right word.
The general definitely knows how to coddle and woo someone, but it’s also interesting with the fact that he has another man in his heart and at first he’s trying to replicate his affection for his beloved in someone else and then doesn’t realize that he’s slowly falling for this simple man in front of him, and soon enough that man is the only thing that can occupy his thoughts. It’s actually addicting.
I am enthralled with this story.
The plot is now plotting and there’s angst and butterflies and heavy emotion all intertwined.
Side note: Rancui is a god among men and I want to see him and Hei-er get together so badly.
The art is stunning and this whole story is just a ride.
If you’re not overly sensitive this will be a good read for you, I’m utterly entranced.

The main story was good, which was why it got 4 stars

but it was spoiled by the AU (alternate universe) side story black egg really pushed the boundaries between smut and the most ott obscene sex... they honestly need an anatomy lesson.

I'm not new to things like omegaverse or fiction with intersex like the side story had but it just got a bit much with the sex getting so violent that the penis was able to go inside the womb and it causing intense orgasms etc.. like it was a hungry mouth milking the head of the cock.

Ugh was a bit much. 🙄

while shocking in its goofiness in the first volume, this one and the intense sex bw our main characters has lost its novelty (tho wxz has a self-lubricating ass now? I guess?? slick is mentioned repeatedly and I need to know what was written in Chinese)
the intrigue in the shadows continues to be in the shadows but at least we see gsj rethinking who he has true affection for

Boring manga with no real point or depth level lack of character growth and forces is all over the place and mainly on the boring sex put in to place, sadly boring and author clearly is lacking storyline and does not focus on a good story.

It was amusing and the plots that the general has going on behind Wu's back are quite impressive to see. The story moves at a great clip and the intrigue is just building up. The two main leads are also amusing in how one is clear and the other just has absolutely no clue.
