Have you ever wished your cat could talk to you? If so, allow my story to be your cautionary tale.

After a stunning betrayal knocks me for a loop, I don’t know who I can trust. The trail to finding Aunt Lavender is warmer than ever—but also more dangerous.

Can a visit to the local psychic provide the final clue? Or will her inclinations land us in the crosshairs of the kidnapper?

There’s only one way to find out, and all I can hope is the crystal ball is clear enough to light the way.

**Furry Fortunes is book five in the Nine Lives Magic series by Danielle Garrett. These magical cozy mysteries are full of hijinks and purr-fect for anyone who wanted to adopt Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

5 books in and we still haven't run out of cat puns! The fetch quest + sarcastic cat formula is unbeatable and I'm glad we got to see another side of Selene's purrsonality. Personality. Sorry for that.

An ongoing hunt to find and free Aunt Lavender has taken an Air Witch and her witchy cat familiar through many exciting twists and turns. The stakes are getting higher and I feel the series is coming down to it. Another entertaining segment in Danielle Garrett’s series as told by the amazing Amanda Ronconi.

Furry Fortunes is fifth in the Nine Lives Magic series and it is part of an ongoing story from earlier books so does not make a good standalone story.

At the end of the previous book, Purr-fect Potions, their best lead on finding Aunt Lavender dries up when Tabitha gets turned to stone. Cora and Selene need a break and Lilac suggests going to Hannah to try the fortune telling angle. Hannah does give them a cryptic message and they do get into Tabitha’s phone. Meanwhile, August who wants Cora to do a business deal with him seems to be together with Hannah. Cora and Clint are still on a break. And, events are building to a big end in the next book after some interesting facts get revealed.

Furry Fortunes turned out better for me than the last book. It’s a transition book, for sure. The rise in action and tension made it move forward keeping me pulled into the story and what they discover in the end is definitely a good table setter for what is to come.

Though, I have to say that a few minor things still had me less than thrilled. I really don’t get the point of Cora needing a break from Clint and ‘needing some space’. Frankly, his warm, caring personality balances out Selene’s acerbic attitude and Cora does better when he’s around, too- and isn’t that the point of a relationship? Happily, he’s still around and still interested.

Amanda Ronconi is a steady, strong rock for this series and all others for the author. I can’t add much to what I’ve already said, but she continues to voice story and characters amazingly and matches the tone of the books so that they are enhanced by her voice work.

All in all, I was satisfied and had a good time listening. Next is the finale and I can’t wait to see Cora go up against the hinted big bad to get her aunt back. And, it won’t be dull with the irascible Selene the magic cat at her side. Paranormal Cozy fans should really give this or one of Danielle Garrett’s many wonderful series a try.

I rec’d an audio digital copy from Tantor Audio to listen to in exchange for an honest review.

My full review will post at Books of My Heart on Apr 16th.

Picking up at the immediate conclusion of the previous Nine Lives Magic book, Furry Fortunes continues the story left unfinished in Purr-fect Potions. Treasure hunter Tabitha Blake has been turned into a statue, taking away Cora and Selene’s only lead to find the missing Aunt Lavender.

While Furry Fortunes moves forward the plot involving Aunt Lavender, it remains unfinished yet again. Normally, I don’t mind a series-arching storyline spilling across multiple books; however, for the second book in a row, there is no standalone mystery or adventure for Cora. While I was more interested in this story than the previous one, I was still disappointed that the cozy series has turned into a serial mystery. I want to finish it, because I want to know what happened to Lavender, but I’m disappointed that the author has chosen not to make each book have a standalone mystery with a satisfying conclusion. I’m also disappointed in the extra drama added due to the break up with Clint. Finally, I continue to dislike Selene’s character; she is selfish and unnecessary petty and cruel at times.

Narration: Ms. Ronconi continues to provide the voice of Cora and her friends. Shared in the first person POV of Cora, Ms. Ronconi provides an upbeat voice for Cora, matching emotion fitting to the story. Ms. Ronconi alters each character’s voice based on age, gender, background, and species. And Selene’s voice is still awesome- a perfect fit for the annoying cat.

It’s my understanding that readers will finally discover what happened to Aunt Lavender in the next title, so I will try the next book. However, if the plot continues to drag on, it may be time to say goodbye to Cora.

My ratings:
Story: C
Narration: B+

Off to a good start. Be careful what you wish for, if you hope for a talking cat . . . You just might end up with one who orders a pizza with extra anchovies!

I bought the Kindle ed. for $2.50. Deal! I've posted some highlights:
https://www.goodreads.com/notes/63141...

That Selene is quite the kitty! BUT. As I got near the end, I wondered how the author was going to resolve the (slender, bare-bones) plot. Answer: she didn't! Just ended the book on a cliff-hanger, and pushed resolution off to the next book. Bah. Disappointing, and I'm not the only one annoyed.

I'm not sure I'll read any more of these. The main attraction is Selene the (immortal?) cat, and she's not quite enough to hold my interest for books on end. Still, there's some cute stuff here. For me, a weak 3-star read. Oh, well.

Furry Fortunes is Book 5 in the Nine Lives Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett.
Can I just say SO worth the wait!!! I love this series.

Cora and Selene (the talking snarky cat) are still trying to find Aunt Lavender.

This book is filled with such action and adventure and fun. I love the dialogue between Cora and Selene.

The characters are so well written, and the mystery keeps me on my toes.

I look forward to the next and final book to see how everything turns out.

This is a fantastic series. You definitely will want to start from the first book and enjoy all the books in order.

Highly recommend!

This series is extremely OK, and sometimes that's exactly what I want.

I remember not liking #4, but this one was better. The pace was quicker, it was nice to finally be on the road to saving Aunt Lavender.

I think with this series the plot is secondary to the cat. Selene was as sassy as ever, and with the excellent narration by Amanda Ranconi on the audiobook, listening to Selene's barbs is always pure joy.

This book was an excellent cleaning companion. I could listen on 2x speed, be entertained, and not have to sweat missing occasional details while I vacuumed.

See? OK is great!

Another great addition to the series. I feel like Cora, and her cat Selene, are finally getting close to solving Lavender’s disappearance. These two find more adventures and mischief than you would think is possible in their sleepy town.

Clint is out of the picture, the deal he's trying not to make with his mother over her fortune, has him going back to Chicago. He doesn't really want to but he has to replenish his funds or succumb to his mother's whims.

Tabitha had betrayed Cora, she wasn't really helping to find Cora's Aunt Lavender she was creating diversions. She spilled that revelation and then she was turned to stone. Selene thinks it's an oath curse and now that she's thought about it, she's not sure how long they have to reverse it.

Cora and Selene both think they're getting closer to where Lavender is, but there are so many things going in different directions. They need to find the right focus, and quickly, time just might be running out.

Lilac, Cora's mom and Lavender's sister hasn't tried to contact her again since the last time scared her so much. Lilac suggests talking to Hannah Snowberry a psychic with a true gift. That visit doesn't go quite the way Cora was expecting and Selene was more than a bit skeptical to begin with. More hints nothing to grab onto firmly.

Tabitha's producer shows up, August claims to have been Tabitha's boyfriend in spite of having a fiancé. The Warden finally shows up and offers to research the solution to Tabitha's state and gets the Sheriff to take a more active role in the search for Lavender. She doesn't however offer any personnel to help the search.

An evening with her best friend Leanna is just what she needs to help clear her head.

More brainstorming with Selene. More from August in the form of someone from Tabitha's client list.

More leads, threats, surprises and so much more as the search for Lavender continues.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Aunt Lavender is a total asshole. No regard for anyone but herself. I do not like that character AT ALL. What a fucking narcississt. Completely oblivious to all the pain and suffering of others. I have no idea why Cora, the main character, and Lavender's sister who is Cora's mom, have such strong, warm feelings for her.

And I think it is in this book or the #6 where they are trying to make a memory candle and Cora seems to forget, or the author does, that she had created something similar in book two. I am binge reading the series so I remember.

And then they have the nerve to, after the guy had not been mentioned the whole book or at least not been in the book or even really the others, to help them by actually going to some place and using a special candle that would create a fake image of Aunt Lavender and he would rescue the real Lavender ALL BY HIMSELF.

Cora is a user too. She used Roger her exhusband. What a shitty person.

Welcome to Winterspell where Cora owns and runs a magical candle store while trying to do her best to find her Aunt Lavender who is missing. Cora is sure that her aunt’s knowledge of the ancient Golden Lotus is the main factor of why she is missing. So, who took her aunt away… and where is she? Cora has help from Selene who was her aunt’s cat familiar and now she’s helping Cora out. Unexpected help comes from a famous artifact hunter, Tabitha. But is she really there to help Cora or just boost her fame… or is there another reason? Complicating her life is her relationship with her boyfriend Clint. Can they work things out as Clint’s mother doesn’t approve of Cora or pretty much anything Clint does. Will this wean the end of their relationship… lots going on. Love this series and think you will too!

Really wish the cliffhangers would end.

💖 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
📚 Genre: Cozy mystery, paranormal

💻 KU: Yes

💕 Positives:
* Hard to put down.

* Selene is a character that I enjoy more and more with each book.

* Interesting twists with two of the characters in the books.

🚫 Negatives:
* Ended on yet another cliffhanger. I'm so over the cliffhangers

⚡Trigger Warning: dying from chronic illness is mentioned once in the book.

🌟 Overall, I enjoyed this book but I'm tired of the cliff hangers in this series. Two cliffhangers back to back. Ugh. The action was neat and seeing Selene use her magic more was fun, but it's starting to feel a bit drawn out with the Lavender storyline.

I'll still read the next book to see what happens with Lavender. Hopefully the cliffhangers end there.

This is book five of the Nine Lives Magic series and this book, our MC Cora, and her obnoxious cat familiar, Selene, are still looking for Aunt Lavender. After the ending of the last book left Tabitha frozen into a stone statue, after admitting she'd been working for the bad guys.

Cora is back to not knowing what to do next in the hunt for Lavender, which is the main focus of this book, until Lilac, Cora's Mom, suggests they go to a local psychic for help finding Lavender.
The romance between Clint and Cora is at an end, as Cora needs space, (which I find lame.) This whole breakup seems pointless.

Overall, still entertained, so I'm in this till the end. This one had loads of twists and a betrayal I saw coming. I will continue to recommend this series as a light, cozy read with a good mysteries.

Furry fortunes

This book really grabs your attention. There are so many twists and turns. New allies, new enemies and not always knowing which one they are. New clues pop up but can they trust the info? Can they trust this person? Cora doing all this why dealing with her anxiety and doubt in herself. Wondering if she's where she belongs and if she has made a mistake with Roger and or Clint. Selene of course gives her snarky and sometimes insightful answers. Things about her Aunt finally comes to a head. Wow! Can't wait to start the next book to see where it all leads.

At the end of the last book, Purr-fect Potions, Tabitha is turned to stone. She told Cora and Selene that she was hired to keep them off the trail of finding Aunt Lavender. As she is telling them this she turns to stone. Selene tells Cora the magic she thinks was used on Tabitha was from an oath spell connected to blood magic.

Now it’s up to Cora and Selene to figure out who Tabitha was working with that kidnapped Aunt Lavender. In addition, they now must also figure out how to revive Tabitha from the stone state she is trapped in. This journey takes Cora and Selene on a wild ride with some new characters along with many of the previous characters from past books.

Cora and Selene are still trying to find Aunt Lavender. They think they have help but it turns out they don't. Now they have to figure out who is behind this latest mystery. Cora and Selene will have to figure out who they can truly trust. This case will bring up some stuff for both Cora and Selene.

This was a fun read with some interesting twists and turns. Cora and Selene's relationship has differently levels as they will discover. I recommend reading this book and anything by Danielle. She proves characters that become friends and worlds to disappear in for a while.

I am currently sick in bed so binge reading these has been a treat. Wow there’s a lot going on in this one! Figuring out who Tabitha worked for, the fortune teller, Clint coming back, August inserting himself, all kinds of craziness! Let’s start with the bombshell at the end- apparently augusts brother is dying and in a relationship with Tabitha so it’s possible they’ve been hunting for the lotus to save his life. Is augusts brother the one who has lavender?? Also Clint- why is he back? Something seems off about that so I’m curious. On to the next!

I enjoyed the book (Selene the cat is always funny) but I'm getting kind of sick of the main characters still spinning their wheels on the same mystery that they've been working on since book one. I mean, other interesting stuff has happened, but they need to hurry up and find Cora's missing aunt, already! It's been five books, I'm ready to move on. Possibly the fact that I've been reading (technically listening to) the books back to back is making me more impatient, idk. I'm going to start the next book now and hopefully we can find Cora's aunt in that one.

Selene and Cora are back and I couldn’t be happier!

What a great book! Never start a Garrett book before bed, because you won’t be able to put it down. Did I listen to my own advice? No, LOL. I stayed up way too late, but this series is just SO GOOD! I love Selene and her snarky comments that are just so fun!

This series is meant to be read in order, this book is not a standalone. There will be one more book in this series and I can’t wait!

Psychics and Premonitions

Cora is in for it. Tabitha is stone and all leads to Lavender are gone. Lilac suggests Cora goes to a psychic for help with Tabitha and manages to get the code for Tabitha's phone. But Hannah has a premonition that warns Cora away from telling the Warden everything. Plus, August is sniffing around, claiming Tabitha is his girlfriend. The twist at the end is definitely worth the read!

Selene makes me laugh!

I don’t typically laugh at many things and this cat just continually gives me unexpected bursts of laughs and chuckles. Selene is just such a great character. I really enjoy how the story line flows in this series. I can’t wait for the next book. I really hope it isn’t the final book about Selene. She has way to much to offer. Thank you for providing such an entertaining book!

This is the best book of the series and can't wait for the last book in series to see if Cora finds her aunt and her relationship with her boyfriend becomes less chaotic. Any way we are getting closer to finding the aunt and the relationship with Clint is rocky because of mother. But this book is fully packed with mystery, angst, humor from dealing with snarky familiar cat and just everyday stresses in the life of a witch on a mission. Highly recommend this book and all the books in the series.

I love how this series picks right up after the last and even on the same scene so you don't get too lost. I did love the mention of adulting struggles and movie references as well. The plot twists keep getting more intense as it goes. The main reason why I keep reading these are Selene even when Cora is relatable.

I do enjoy these and they are nice short reads to break things up or if I ever start to feel slumpy.

Cora has her hands full now. Her business, her snarky feline familiar and Clint, her heart throb. A missing grandmother, a false friend, and no leads sends our sleuth out in circles hoping for a connecting element to pull all of this together. The wind tunnels she can create, following her journey are nothing to the scattered clues!

This was intense!

Totally enjoyed this 9 Lives Magic mystery! Even though Selene is such a snarky cat, I still love her character. The story line of this mystery is definitely becoming more involved. Can't wait for the next book to see what more is going to happen in the quest to find Aunt Lavender!
