Catching His Fire is the fifth and final novel in the Mesa Boys series. It is an enemies-to-lovers, hurt/comfort romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features a light-hearted skater, motorcycles, and a serious man who needs someone to show him how to live again. Each book features a different couple and can be read as a standalone or as part of the series in order.

Christie Gordon is a bestselling MM romance author who writes steamy, emotional love stories filled with messy feelings, found family, unexpected love, and happily ever afters worth fighting for.
Her interconnected romance world spans MM hockey romance, MM football romance, rockstar romance, skater boys, rivals, teammates, best friends, forbidden relationships, bi awakenings, second chances, and men who have a habit of falling for exactly the person they never saw coming.
Christie began publishing MM romance in 2010, then stepped away from writing for several years while raising her two sons. She returned in 2021 with Say the Words, and one story quickly grew into a sprawling world of connected series, familiar faces, and side characters who refuse to stay on the sidelines.
In March 2025, Christie left the high-tech world behind to become a full-time author—and now spends her days doing what she loves most: creating high-heat, high-emotion MM romance with a little humor and a hard-earned HEA.
When she isn’t writing, Christie can usually be found watching boys-love dramas, creating digital art, drinking far too much coffee, or dreaming up the next couple destined to make terrible decisions before falling hopelessly in love. She lives in the Phoenix metro area and is the proud mom of two grown sons who still provide plenty of inspiration for fictional chaos.
Book 5 of the Mesa Boys and Christie Gordon laid herself bare for us. Please heed the TW about miscarriage. It happened in the past but is discussed frequently as Kaiden works through his feelings.
Jaime – 2 moms, motorcycle repair shop, loves to skate with his friends and is looking for his person. Kaiden – fresh off a break-up with his long-time girlfriend and mother of his son, lost to miscarriage in the second trimester. He isn’t looking for his person, but he isn’t not looking either.
After taking his new bike to Jaime’s shop for some mods, they have a blow-up regarding a random screw that Jaime insists isn’t from the bike and Kaiden demanding the work be redone, the 2 men are not off to a great start. However, this heated hate? Their anger? Maybe it isn’t intense hatred, but the opposite. One explosive encounter leads to another and another until the men are falling in love with no real idea how they got there. Kaiden had been with men in his past, but swore them off after he and his boyfriend were the subject of a verbal homophobic tirade. He wasn’t sure he could handle coming out and the scrutiny & opinions that come with it, so he buried that side of himself deep within his heart. Jaime changes that and Kaiden is all in with him and he couldn’t be happier.
Except life isn’t that easy and that ex-girlfriend that he was often guilted into visiting and then sleeping with? The one who is showing that she’s got some homophobic tendencies, too? She’s desperate to get Kaiden back and has a little surprise for him. Is Kaiden secure enough in his love for Jaime that he can handle her bombshell while still maintaining his relationship with Jaime? Is Jaime’s trust strong enough to withstand the fear that Kaiden will go back to his ex when she dangles a second chance for everything he’d already lost once?
Firstly let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review. Firstly let me say this is an outstanding read that will make you go through every emotion possible. In places this book nearly had me in tears that somebody could be so cruel just beggars belief and shows you what type of person this is.
Kaiden and his ex-girlfriend Sophia had been split up about six months. Seven months ago they went through a miscarriage of their baby boy. Kaiden hadn’t really grieved and he knew he didn’t want be in a relationship with Sophia but she kept dragging him back with text messages and phone calls saying she needed him to come round, because of guilt he would always go. He knew he was prolonging the inevitable but he just did not see a way out. He bought a Harley Davison he wanted to go on long rides just to clear his head. One day at a bar he got talking to a girl called Andrea and she told him where he could get modifications done on his Harley. Kaiden thought if he got into a relationship with her it might put some space between him and Sophia. When he went to the shop to see about the moderations he wanted he came face-to-face with the most gorgeous man he’d ever met. you see back in college Kaiden had a relationship with a man but because of some homophobic slurs he decided to stay away from men and concentrate on being with females. But the attraction he felt towards the owner of this bike shop called Jamie was undeniable that he decided to fight it. Jamie had been concentrating on the opening and the success of his bike shop to the point that other than skating with his group of extremely close friends that was pretty much all he did. He was very blessed with his friends, he would go skating at the skater park, go for a drink with them and then it was fully concentrating on his bike shop. Thankfully it was doing well and he now had some brilliant mechanics who are making the business successful. When Kaiden walked through his shop Jamie couldn’t help but find him attractive, there was just something about him they spoke about the moderations he wanted and plan to phone when the job is done. Here is the problem when Kayden picked up his bike he was happy but as he got on the bike a screw fell off. He felt the bike wasn’t safe to ride and got into a disagreement with Jamie and got them to take the bike back to check it over to make sure it was safe. They haggled because Jamie didn’t want a bad reputation after all the hard work they done at his shop, both felt unhappy with the agreement that Kaiden left with his bike that sounded amazing. Later that week they bumped into each other at the bar, they got into it again which led to them getting very hot under the collar. Kaiden walked off going to the bathroom but Jamie was having none of it and followed him in. Where their attraction took over. But here lies the problem Jamie was really attracted to Kaiden, Kaiden was having issues with the attraction to him he wasn’t sure he could get into a relationship with a man again he wasn’t worried about his family they were very supportive it was other judgemental people around him. And then there was Sophia who is doing everything to Drag him back into her life how would they cope with that.?? So that is how they met and how their attraction took over and let me tell you right now that these two are just perfect for one another. When it’s just them everything is happy, the passion that they have for one another is off the charts. they can talk about anything, they support one another, they like each other’s family and friends but Sophia is an issue that just will not leave them be. I’ve Gotta say I went through every emotion possible even screaming at the book which got some very strange looks from my husband. But I just could not believe how cruel a person could be. But the love between Jamie and Kaiden outshines everything else just an amazing read about two amazing people with fantastic friends and family. I think I will be reading this book again soon. I’ve missed some of these books from this series but I will be sure to be buying them soon because these Mesa boys are just in an amazing group who see their friends as family and you can’t ask for more. An outstanding read
Put simply, I truly enjoyed this book. Entertaining characters, concise world building and just enough treachery from Clark's ex to constantly derail Clark and Leo's growing relationship. A slight overabundance of blazing heat, almost to the point of repetition.
As a package, this story was a gem. If you like enemies/lovers, hurt/comfort, a vengeful ex and motorcycles, this is a must read!
SO LONG MESA BOYS!!!! This is the 5th and final installment of this great series by Christie. It's a close second for me following #3 (Catching His Eye) which was the best IMHO. You don't need to have read the earlier books to enjoy this one, but it does help in understanding the group dynamic.
Kudos to Christie for writing about miscarriage so honestly. It's a recurring theme and if that's a Trigger for you then beware. There is a detailed description of a second trimester loss that has occurred in the past that could be troubling for some readers. Additional kudos for reversing the stereotype "AMAB/AWAA" (All Men Are Bastards/All Women Are Angels). The villain in this book is a woman - she is no angel and plays very dirty.
Andrea gets another chance to play matchmaker, this time with Kieran the physiotherapist and Jaime the motorcycle mechanic. Kieran wants some custom mods done to his new Harley and Andrea suggests he take it to Jaime's shop. Sparks start to fly from the first meeting, but a loose screw creates tension as Kieran is overly concerned and kind of a drama queen. I honestly didn't like him for the first third of the book. But their angst also gets the "enemies to lovers" thing going and before long they can't keep their hands off each other. The "smexy" scenes come often and with a lot of heat.
The guys from the earlier books appear throughout, and the Epilogue is outstanding and closes a lot of loops as we see Max & Tanner tie the knot at the skate park. I am going to miss these guys. But it seems Christie is going to give us a new series in Mesa that involves some of the secondary characters from Mesa Boys that aren't skaters. Looking forward to that, and also to my planned February trip to Scottsdale in 2023 with my hubby.
This is the last book in the Mesa Boys series. You don’t have to have read the previous book, but it would be good if you did as there are some ‘in’ jokes that you’d get fully if you had.
I’m my opinion this is the best book of the five. Kaiden is heartbroken after his ex lost their baby and she is emotionally abusing him to keep him in her life.
Jaime is the owner of a local motorbike garage who does some mods to Kaiden’s newly purchased bike. You will have met Jaime in the previous books.
Kaiden did annoy me when he felt that Jaime has done something wrong to his bike, I get where he was coming from as he clearly doesn’t know about the mechanics of a bike, but no business owner wants their reputation to be damaged. Little too demanding for my liking and seemed to be forgotten a little too quickly as well. Especially as he couldn’t seem to stand up to his ex girlfriend as easily, although those circumstances were certainly a little different.
I loved their parents and how open and accepting they were. Lots of authors seem to throw in difficult parents often and it made a nice change that there wasn’t that difficulty in this book.
Jaime was such a sweetheart and I’m so pleased that he got his HEA and would love to see them as parents in a future book.
Very much looking forward to book one in the next series.
This book was given to me as an ARC, but the review is all me!
Jaime & Kaiden: This book stays true to the series with two guys getting to know each other with all the insecurities of a new relationship. As well as some added drama. Insta-lust for these two, is hate-lust a word? Jaime really is the best kind of guy, so patient, caring and sweet. He wants to give Kaiden’s ex a chance and not believe the worst about her and when she goes way too far, Jaime stands up for his man in the best way. He may be little but he is a natural protector. Kaiden doesn’t know what it is about Jaime that makes him want to change his mind about dating guys but he just can’t resist him. Anger turns to lust and the next thing he knows, he is craving to just be with Jaime. These two are very sweet and unconditionally support each other at every turn. This was a great story and I enjoyed peaking in on the other guys and of course Andrea!
I am a huge fan of stories about scheming exes who plot to destroy any new relationships to hold on to the one they want, so I would have enjoyed this one just for that part of the plot alone. There's so much more going on here though and you can understand why Kaiden has such a short fuse and why his girlfriend is so desperate to hang on to what they had (and what they've lost). A commitment such as Kaiden's to stay in the closet despite very strong feelings all his life would be difficult enough for a person whose life was rolling along smoothly. The devastating miscarriage he and his girlfriend are dealing with multiplies his stress unbearably and leads to some reactions to and behaviors toward Jaime that confuse both of them. Fortunately, Jaime is secure in who he is and after some sparks both negative and positive, these two find their way. I am reviewing an ARC of this book.
I can’t believe we have to say goodbye to the Mesa Boys but hopefully there will be spin-offs….
The match making bartender Andrea is at it again! This time it is Jaime the skater bike mechanic and the physio therapist Kaiden with his Harley and a loose screw…..
Unfortunately for Andrea these two are stubborn, fiery and arrogant and Kaiden has set his sights on a woman and not Jaime…
I loved their dynamic that changed the more time they spent hating each other with a fiery passion that just morphed into a passionate love but their journey is not smooth sailing as there is an ex girlfriend who wants her man back at any cost!
A sweet and angsty steamy enemies to lovers with hurt comfort and a psychotic ex to spice up the story line!
I voluntarily received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
Well Jaime and Kaiden start off with a bang! Kaiden is full of anger, hurt and deep trust issues. He does not even trust Jaime at first even though he is attracted and drawn to him. I absolutely adored Jaime. He is that guy who wants to see the best in everyone. The relationship is pretty tentative in the trust department for Kaiden. Jaime's care, support and protectiveness are impossible to ignore though. Head the trigger warning because Kaiden's background story is tough and heartbreaking. These two are very real couple and I was completely invested in Jaime getting Kaiden's trust and love back!
This entire series reads like is written by someone who’s not queer and never met a queer person in their life. And never met a 20-something without college degree, or a college student without a trust fund. The amount of homophobia and heteronormativity that is written as if it’s normal or acceptable or not triggering is appalling. I’m not talking about the topics that are listed as trigger warnings in the books - those are all driven by hate-filled characters who I’ve read archetypes of in other books - the trigger warnings are there and those sad or nasty situations are fine as a plot device.
The final book has more of these situations than the rest, and it was so frustrating I couldn’t stop myself from writing this.
How many times is a character outed with the best of intentions and zero negative consequences? At least once in every book, sometimes way more. That’s not how allyship works, you don’t out people without their consent, even to their love interest.
The amount of dialogue during sex that sounds like taking back consent, even though it’s meant to be consent, is horrifying. The number of “stops” requested during “consensual” sex scenes really makes it read like the characters have zero idea how to communicate and zero idea what their partner wants. And I’m legitimately waiting for someone to realize their partner might be assaulting them while reading.
Plus every relationship goes from strangers to living together in less than 6 months, some in a month. I can accept it for one out five in the series (or maybe two if we count the roommates falling in love in a day), but it’s basically what happens in all of them. The stories would feel so much healthier and real if the timelines in all the books were spread out by six months or a year or two longer. It could be the exact same stories, but instead of meeting two sets of parents and almost starting a fist fight and saying ily in one weekend, couldn’t it be spread out over the course of several weeks? Allow them to fall in love over weeks and months and not days? Especially for characters who barely spend time together and after two dates are saying ily. Give the boys time to fall in love for crying out fucking loud.
Beyond that the writing is really lazy. The characters go to the same restaurants and order the same meals over and over again, and I’m not talking about the bar where major plot points happen in all the books. In Austin they go to the same bar and order the same dishes at least three times, same with the sushi place, and skatepark lunches. It’s like the characters have zero interest in variety or reaching beyond their familiarity or comfort zone, even when the narrator is explicit that the characters want more than what to experience more they have.
The constant mention of actual brand names and the characters ALWAYS drinking beer, even when they’re in the Arizona sun and are likely to get painfully dehydrated and right before DRIVING, might be a device to ground the stories in reality, but it doesn’t fit. 20 something’s don’t constantly drink beer, and if they did, these characters should all have DUIs. And again, it’s Arizona, they’d all be dehydrated and have awful headaches from drinking that much. Reading “subway sandwich place” over and over makes me concerned the characters have nitrate poisoning in a way I don’t think about in other stories where characters go to the same independent, fiction deli daily.
The only reason I’m not giving every book a 2 or a 1 is because the plots are complex, and unpredictable, even if the twists and turns are not very original. And yes, I read the whole series because I kept waiting for the writing to improve with time or the characters in later books to be better developed, which I’ve experienced in dozens of series by other authors who had a shaky first or second book in a longer series.
Mijo means darling, it’s a term of loving affection, it doesn’t mean buddy or pal. 🤦♀️
I first want to start off by saying that this can be read as a stand-alone. However, I highly recommend reading the whole series for maximum enjoyment, you'll get to know the characters better and see how great these friendships are.
Kaiden is struggling between trying to grieve his unborn son and dealing with the guilt trip his ex Sophia keeps holding over his head. His ex is emotionally manipulating him, as much as he wants to get away from her he doesn't know how to do it on his own. When he buys a bike for himself and wants to add modifications to it he brings it to Jaimie's garage. When they meet it's well... Explosive. These two are like fire and water, they hate each other at first, but once they get to know each other more things change.
Kaiden helps Jaimie by giving him that partnership Jaimie's been missing. And Jaimie gives Kaiden the support and the shoulder to cry on that Kaiden has desperately needed. These two men, along with Jaimie's fellow skater friends, help heal each other's wounds and shows up when they need one another.
This was really well written, I for one really enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books. I always enjoy when we still get to see characters from the other books making appearances in the current book. The reason I rated this a 4.5 is cause while I understand why there was so many heated scenes... I didn't enjoy that the first couple of s3x scenes were while they were arguing and disagreeing about something. It's just not personally something I enjoy reading, but I still enjoyed this book despite that.
I'm really looking forward to the next book, I'm excited to read about Devin and Brandon, (hopefully anyway.) I also loved the end of this book, it was such a perfect way to end this heavy story.
Overall a really good read, if talk of miscarriage and loss is a triggering subject for you proceed with caution.
*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
Book 5 on the Mesa Boys series, I’ve read them all, you can read as standalone but it’s always better to read them all as the characters do cross over into all books.
Kaiden just rolled into town on his new Harley, but already he’s made someone mad! What is going on with this hate towards this person who is also getting him so damm hot! Turns out the the man he had an angry bathroom encounter is the same one who owns the bike shop where he needs to get his bike upgraded! To make his life more complicated he also has an ex who just won’t leave him alone and uses his grief against him.
Jamie is one of the local skater boys, they are a great group of friends who meet up regularly to catch up and get advice from each other. He also owns the local motorbike repair shop which is where he comes across the man who he’d had more than a disagreement with! How can you hate someone but also want to bang the living daylights out of them!!
Jaime is a really caring man who was raised by two very understanding mums, he shows his kindness and compassion when he helps Kaiden to finally grieve and stand up to his ex.
This is a hard situation to go through, once you read the book you will understand, the personal reasons behind the story come from the authors personal experience and I totally get it because I have been there myself. She’s very brave to share something so close to her heart.
This has the following
Hate to love Hate sex Grief Motorbikes Hurt/comfort Crazy ex Supportive family Great group of friends Size difference
Kaiden was trapped in a couple of different ways when he first met Jaime. He is trapped in the need to feel secure in public when he dates so although he is attracted to men as well, he is dating women exclusively because it is safer. An event in his past left him feeling that way. He and Jaime spark from their first meeting but there is friction because Kaiden can't get out of his own way. Jaime is a good guy because Kaiden needs a lot of patience from him. Also because Kaiden is also being manipulated by an ex with whom he went through a tragedy but who he needs to get away from because what's left of their relationship is toxic. He is conflicted and trying too hard to be supportive but guilt is not a good reason to stay at someone's beck and call. Jaime is good for Kaiden as figuring out what he wanted with Jaime helps him to also sort himself out. It was also good to visit with some of the other couples from previous stories. The Mesa boys are cool and their relationships are complex and they are a good supportive group of friends. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
Once again, we have a story where the plot is decent but where the characters are awkward with each other and the insta-love is intense. Yes, somehow, a book with an enemies-to-lovers trope is also an insta-love story; don't ask me to explain that contradiction. In general, the writing style of this series reminds me of YA romance novels more than adult romance novels. Other than the open-door sex scenes, the books in the series feel like they're about high schoolers rather than men in their twenties with how awkward and dramatic their interior monologues tend to be as well how the MCs are usually confessing their love within two weeks of meeting each other. Although I will admit that the MCs in this book of the series didn't feel quite as young and immature as they did in the first three books of the series. Anyway, regardless of how many eye-rolling moments I had while reading this series, I liked it well enough to start the spin-off series where I will see if the writing style continues to remind of YA novels or not.
Kaiden is slowly getting over a miscarriage his ex had a few months ago when he meets Jaime.
When there’s a bit of a problem with his bike, & despite having a bad first impression of each other, Kaiden & Jaime end up hooking up a few days later at a local bar. It seems that for them, arguing is like foreplay.
Sometimes the past gets in the way (like Sophia — ugh!), sometimes they just need to talk things out & support one another.
During the story, sometimes time moved very quickly, without the usual break in chapters. The story would go from one paragraph to another, & time would jump to the next day. For example, I read one paragraph that says Kaiden is staying over at his ex, & in the very next paragraph it’s morning - & I only found out what happened later in the book, much later... & this happened a few times.
All in all, this was a nice story to read. I really liked Kaiden & Jaime together.
I received this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fight to own and embrace your truth. Jaime, is raised by two Moms. He was raised in a loving home and is a confident, self assurred compassionate man. He owns a motorcycle repair shop. He professionally reached a balance where he is ready to find his forever person. Kaiden is grief laden after experiencing a crushing miscarriage with his girlfriend. He feels guilt from feeling attracted to men. He vows to remain celibate. Kaiden, needs work done on his bike and the two men meet. They have a series of intensely hot encounters until they take a pause to evaluate what they are really doing. Kaiden's girlfriend is still in the picture since Kaiden isn't out yet. Can Kaiden accept who he is? Does Jaime have patience to wait on Kaiden? Will Kaiden get his priorities right? Good story. Great challenges and well thought out points of view. Nicely done. Very nice cover art. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
2.5-3⭐️ I took a while to get interested in Kaiden and Jamie, both main characters just were not very likable to me. A good bit of time is given to Sophia, Kaiden’s ex girlfriend who is pretty unpleasant and very manipulative, her drama doesn’t add anything to the story. Enemies to lovers is a favorite of mine, but the enemies part didn’t quite work for me. Kaiden and Jamie’s “fight” over the missing screw on Kaiden’s bike was pretty silly and for me was not realistic. I did like the friendships in the book and I liked seeing the other couples from previous books. I also thought the author did a good job with Kaiden and his grief over the miscarriage. But, unfortunately the relationship side of the story did not work for me.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Fifth book in the series, and I have to say, I liked it more than the previous one, although I still notice that it lacks a little bit of fluidity. Likewise, it jumps from one paragraph to another, at times, where some things happen in the previous paragraph and in the next one, the story already advanced in time.
However, I liked the plot, and I liked the MCs, especially Jaime. Kaiden progressed as the book advanced and "grew up", since at first some of his reactions, more than those of an adult, seemed like those of a capricious child, but I forgave him cause he was grieving the lost of his baby.
Overall it is an interesting, entertaining story that speaks of acceptance and support, apart from the chemistry and love that is born between the protagonists.
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
This is the fifth book in the Mesa Boys series and this was a great addition. In this book we meet motorcycle shop owner and skater Jaime and physiotherapist Kaiden. Jaimie is very laid back and happy to go with the flow. Kaiden is more uptight due to past experiences. They meet when Kaiden wants some work done on his motorcycle and right from the start they have an explosive chemistry and they develop a sort of love/hate relationship until they realise that they actually like each other. It is made difficult by Kaiden's manipulative ex girlfriend and his fear of coming out due to a bad experience in college. But as their relationship grows Jaimie gives Kaiden the strength to deal with things. I enjoyed reading this story.
Catching His Fire is a wonderful finale to the Mesa Boys series. Jamie has been searching for his other half, and honestly Kaiden is a wonderful match... and they both learn a measure of patience and grow with each other in this moving story.
Please heed the trigger warnings - the pregnancy loss is mentioned in multiple places in the book and is a key component, so it's not something where you can skip a chapter and move on.
I truly couldn't put this book down - it captivated and held me from beginning to end - with emotion, humour, steam, communication and a deserving HEA. I am so looking forward to the spin-off series and seeing how Devin and the man who has a crush on him come together...
This is the first book I have read by this author. While I like enemies to lovers stories this one really didn't do anything for me. They finally did make love it was half way through the book and there were time skips that I found a bit confusing. Sophia I found really annoying, too needy. There is mention of miscarriage and death in this story so if this bothers you, it might not be a good read for you. By the halfway point I found I had lost interest in the story as there seemed to be more concentration on the characters than plot advancement.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.
Jamie and Kaiden start off with a rocky start. Jamie is confident, owns his motorcycle shop, was raised by his mothers, and has great friends and family. Kaiden just lost a child, is bisexual, is not out to his friends, and has a manipulative ex-girlfriend. These two are attracted to each other from the start but Kaiden wants Andrea but has an instant attraction to Jamie. Their relationship has a slow start to it and everyone sees the attraction between these two. With the help of their friends, they start a relationship but there's something that keeps them from committing to each other. Overall, the book is funny, witty, and romantic, with some angst, and I enjoyed it.
I read this book as a standalone, it would definitely have been good to read the previous books but it's not necessary. It was very interesting and combined a lot of different sub-plots really well. It just felt wrong that Kaiden, who was being abused by his ex girlfriend and very scared about a lot of things, should be so childish and belligerent about the motorbike screw. His grief was beautifully written. I hope that I will have the chance to read the earlier books some time. I received a free copy of this book via GRR and am happy to leave a voluntary review.
Christie Gordon has given me a different experience reading this book. Normally I am drawn into the world of the story, but this time it feels like the characters have come to mine. Although I have nothing in common, the doorbell can ring and they have come to visit. Kaiden, walking a line chosen with his head crashes into reality with his heart. Jaime has his own demon on his back, but together they can learn to overcome. It is my pleasure to review this copy received from Gay Romance Reviews.
This is the 5th and final book in the Mesa boys series and Christie ends it in an amazing story. Please be aware of the TW about miscarriages. It is talked about a lot as Kaiden works through the trama it brought to his relationship and life. Jamie is an easy going motorcycle shop owner who loves to skate with his friends. An argument over motorcycle modifications start this pair off. The chemistry is off the charts with these guys. I loved the book and would definitely recommend it. I will miss this world of the Mesa boys. Thank you Christie Gordon for sharing your talent with us.
So ... this is definitely a case of "its me and not the book "
I read the one before this one in this series and was not a real fan of the writing, so I should have known better. This one is better regarding the relationship development but I have troubles with the characters. Nevertheless I really wanted to know how this story would develop.
So, if you are a fan of Christie Gordons writing, please don't hesitate to pick this up as the story is engaging.
An ARC was provided by GRR and I am happy to give my honest opinion
Jaime and Kaiden have found each other and just need the courage to make their lives better...together. A miscarriage from the recent past becomes a pivotal point in a the demise of a toxic relationship. Obviously some counseling will be needed in order for a manipulative character that needs more help than a best friend or Jaime and Kaiden can provide.
An emotionally charged story with lot of love embedded.
Just like the rest of this series this is a really solid book with a happily ever after. The one thing I really didn't like about this book was that I felt Kaiden was a weak character. By week I mean that it seemed like even if he disagreed with something but you asked him twice you could get him to do anything he wanted which made his feelings seem inconsequential.
Jaime was as amazing in this book as he wasn't previous. I highly recommend this read along with the rest of the series.
I really liked the book. The two main characters are super likeable and their quarrels are heated and funny and perfect for enemies who become lovers. Their chemistry is as explosiv as their temperaments. Difficult for me personally, was Kaiden's ex-girlfriend, who has acquired some pretty toxic behaviors after the traumatic loss of their baby. But the comfort Kaiden gets out of the relationship to Jaime made that easier for me to cope with.
I really enjoyed this book. I was intrigues by the premise and had to pick it up. I was not disappointed. I liked both the characters. Kaiden and Jaime had great chemistry together. This story was a journey of healing and acceptance. And although these two butted heads at the start, after a while it was undeniable. Add in the drama of a toxic ex-girlfriend, and coming out, and this book hooked me. 4 stars.
