Over twenty years have passed since the red dragons in And They Found Dragons were vanquished by Jack, the boy who followed the light to defeat the darkness. Jack’s son, Noah, is now turning fourteen and lives with a few hundred souls who have seen no other humans or dragons for over twenty years. But all of that changes when Noah embarks on his Passage, a three week journey into the wild on his own. When Noah is taken captive, he discovers that dragons thrive beyond the borders of Zion, and they rule over two warring tribes who will destroy Zion unless he can stop them.
Ted Dekker is known for novels that combine adrenaline-laced stories with unexpected plot twists, unforgettable characters, and incredible confrontations between good and evil. Ted lives in Austin with his wife LeeAnn and their four children.
I have mixed feelings about this book... it wasn't the best start to the series. I just felt it was slow and nothing super interesting happened. I don't know, just wasn't my favorite. Rest of the series is really good though! Final rating: 3.5 stars
It states book 1 but in a way it’s book 4 in this series.
Twenty years have passed since Jack was sent to slay the dragons and find life on earth. He married Sammie and they have two children, but one was kidnapped by another colony. This king raised her as his own without letting anyone but his own son know she wasn’t actually theirs by blood. Noah is Jack and Sammie’s first born and only son and he sets out for the known quest at the required age but he changes courses when he runs into someone who grew up with Esther as his sister. Noah doesn’t trust him completely but nothing will stop him from saving his sister and returning home. Esther refuses to go with Noah since this is the only home she has ever known but then her other brother who she grew up with turns on her for the dragon king and orders another colony to kidnapping her.
This is a clean Middle Grade fantasy series. If you're a middle grader, and you like dragons, then this is the book series for you. The Dragons Among Us is a continuation of what happens after the And They Found Dragons series. See my full review at "https://cooperhite.com/book-reviews/"
“The blood of the creature is on your hands, not mine. And blood that’s taken without cause doesn’t wash off easily.”
Son of the Light Bringer is a beautiful start to a ride of true inspiration.
Book one of The Dragons Among Us introduces us to Noah the son of Jack the ‘Light Bringer’. He has hit the age where he must take his Passage. A journey he must take alone as he becomes a man. His Passage takes a turn and he is sent on an unforeseen tour that he sees as an opportunity to prove himself.
Ted and Rachelle Dekker do an amazing job a telling a detailed story in a very simplistic way. Being this book is geared towards a younger audience it is an accomplishment to still keep older readers intrigued. Noah is a character that you truly care about and who you want to succeed to prove himself. There are so many good lessons in this book. Self confidence, value, and courage are saturated in this story. A true encouragement to read and an ending that will make you read the next one!
Mehhhh, not our favorite of the series! Teddy and I read this together right before bed each night and we had a hard time paying attention sometimes. We’ve got two more books of the series to finish it out!
I'm enjoying this series so far! The only thing that drives me nuts is finding 3 typos... Which really takes me out of the story. Especially when it's a main character's name. Otherwise, it sets you up well for the next one.
Futuristic fantasy with strong Christian themes. Reinterprets the ultimate battle between God and evil as the battle between love and fear. Thought provoking and captivating for children and adults alike. Currently reading this series with my kids for the second time.
