A human mage. An elven soldier. A tenuous bond between enemies.
Living under elven occupation, Kadaki has learned to see the elves for what they truly are: cold-blooded and dangerous. Their fire magic is terrifying, and their disdain for humans makes them casually cruel.
She’s shocked when she finds a familiar face among the soldiers invading her home. Five years ago, she formed an unlikely friendship with one of the elves, Neiryn, in the midst of battle.
But he is not the gentle, misunderstood soul she remembers. He’s arrogant, sarcastic, self-absorbed, uncaring… and far more charming than he has any right to be.
The life of an awkward, reclusive mage is a lonely one. She knows she shouldn’t trust him, but his touch awakens her body in ways she’s never felt before.
When aberrant magic threatens the town, Kadaki is conscripted by the elves to help fight it. But with her magic failing her and the elves holding a knife to her throat, she won’t be able to protect her people alone… and the only person she can turn to is Neiryn.
When she reaches out to him, will he take her hand and pull her to safety, or let her fall?
Sun Elves of Ardani is an enemies to lovers high fantasy romance with healthy doses of spice, adventure, and banter. Reading Night Elves of Ardani before this book is recommended but not necessary.
This book is intended for adults and contains steamy scenes, violence, and mature themes. Please visit the author’s website for more content info.
Nina K. Westra is an elf enthusiast and fantasy romance author with a love of antiheroes, outsiders, and feminist men. Her books feature sweetness and spice, action and adventure, and heart-wrenching (usually forbidden, always angsty) romance with non-human men.
She lives in the ridiculously beautiful Pacific Northwest, and when she’s not writing, she can usually be found petting someone’s cat.

It was the tamest book in the series so far in every sense. It didn’t have so much of the back-and-forth of the previous books, nor did it have a big divide between Neiryn and Kadaki somewhere mid-book. It was a sweet second-chance romance, with characters who are full of snark and love.
What I really adore about this series is the writing though. I love how we always get characters who are allowed to be human (the elves too, you know what I mean) with all the good and bad. None of the girls are Mary Sues, they all have distinct personalities and different perspectives. Kadaki was a surprising and really well-portrayed introverted geek, who I don’t often see represented in books. Watching her navigate her relationship with Neiryn (who is the sweetest and dumbest boyfriend to ever exist) was something I could relate to a lot.
I just loved this book. The romance, the snark, and the plot too. And I’m so glad I get to be part of Nina’s ARC team because where would I be without these chaotic fools?!
Nina does it again!! Neiryn and Kadaki were so unique and magnetic! Neiryn’s bedroom commands were so sexy and he was such a tease! Kadaki was an unpleasant hero but you still root for her and want to accept her as she is. She never was taught what love is or how it looks, so she has to figure it out for herself. I could have used 3 or 5 more intimate scenes but I can tell the book was thoughtfully written and that the dynamics are true to what is going on with the characters.
”Now what?” she said. “That depends on what you want.” “What about what you want?” “I want what you want.” “I want you.” He smiled. “Say that again.”
Dang, Westra really did it again. I love this world with all its strife and charm and magic—and its characters with all their…well, strife and charm and magic. I was looking forwards to the Neiryn & Kadaki book and this one absolutely paid off.
There are romance books that I like/give good ratings to because I think they’re real well done, and then there are the very, very rare romance books that strike my (picky & particular) shipping nerve and that I find super romantic and sexy. This is that. Some of the dialogue from Neiryn, man, swooon ♥️

Neiryn and Adaki had already met in the first book of this series: the night elves of Ardani. In this book they meet again after 5 years. The story can be read as a stand alone, but the other 2 books in this series are great, so why would you want that? In the first book the world Ardani is sketched a bit, the war, night elves, sun elves, magical creatures. In book 1 Neiryn is a sun elf who was once captured by the night elves. The reader came to know him as a somewhat calculated and manipulative character, somewhat selfish and conceited, but he also provided a humorous touch and aroused sympathy. Adaki was a mage, in the service of the human army who saw no other option to desert. She and Neiryn had developed a (kind of) friendly relationship with each other and the two main characters of book 1: Novikke and Aruna. At the end of book 1, Novikke and Aruna went their separate ways and so did Adaki and Neiryn. Five years later it turns out that Adaki and Neiryn are no longer together. The village where Adaki lives is controlled by the sun elves. Neiryn comes to the village with his unit and commander to check on the magical activity going on in the village, So their paths cross again. In all three books it appears that the war has had an impact on the people. There is a lot of distrust, which means that the main characters are not always sympathetic to each other. The sun elves, however, might be the worst. They make for arrogant suppressors . Especially for Neiryn I have little sympathy in this story, childish, arrogant, cowardly until practically the end. The other sun elves are little better. Yet they must work together because there is an imminent danger in the mysterious magic that haunts the village. The reader gets to know Neiryn and his motives better. Just like the first 2 books, well written and compelling. To me Neiryn is a disappointment, but for the course of the story he is not. Adaki can't be a disappointment, unless she's too sweet. Couldn’t put it down and stayed up late in the night to finish!.

I received a free copy of Sun Elves of Ardani in exchange for an honest review. Posting this a little late due to work, so apologies for that!
Starting off, I loved the character of Kadaki. I think she's the most relatable female lead we've seen so far in this series. She's brutally honest and oftentimes can't understand social cues, leading to her offending people when she doesn't mean to. Rather than brush those things aside as negative traits, the author makes it clear this is simply who Kadaki is and that is neither an inherently good or bad thing. I found her realness quite endearing and loved reading from her perspective.
The romance is enjoyable. The lingering hurt between Kadaki and Neiryn created angst between the two characters that added some juicy tension to their romantic development. I think the chemistry could have been pushed to make the romance more swoon worthy, but overall, it delivered.
This installment in the Elves of Ardani series is more of an animosity-to-lovers/ second chance love rather than a true enemies-to-lovers. Kadaki and Neiryn already have established history together prior to them meeting in this book, and as a result they start off already caring about each other despite their unwillingness to admit it.
There's more resentment and hurt between them rather than the typical dose of hate you get at the start of an enemies to lovers. It’s nice that it provided a new set up to their relationship than what we've been getting so far, but it’s for sure not the seething love hate enemies-to-lovers like that in the previous books.
Overall I enjoyed Kadaki and Neiryn's story and recommend you give this and the rest of the books in this series a read. I am now very interested in Ysura, the home of the Sun Elves, and hope we get to see it explored in later books! A big thanks to the author for providing me an ARC to review.
I received a free ARC of this book from the author for my honest review: Neiryn and Kadaki are two characters from the first book of this series, The Night Elves of Ardani, by the same author. I recommend reading the first book (second was also really good) to understand the two main characters original story from 5 years previous. Now The Sun Elves of Ardani we find Kadaki living in the fringes of a small town recovering from the loss of love, being, and self since her she was left by Neiryn. She is now just trying to live a simple life, quiet, and as normal as possible. Neiryn is now back in the army, ending up with his regiment in a small town, finding a long lost, and spiteful, mage. Together they are to work together to explore and new uptick in magic, navigate their old friendship, forge a new alliance, oh and save the town while they are at it.
I love Neiryn and Kadaki’s story. I didn’t think I would because I didn’t like Neiryn as much in the fist story enough to care for his continued adventure. However I was presently surprised by how much I love these two together. It’s a love to hate to love typeface. And that’s okay because I wanted to make sure these two get a happy forever a third in to this story. The author may not have explored the world and characters travel like her other two books. However, a whole entire new area is opened up with a fantastic monster and boss fight….I cannot continue without a spoiler in there. This was great! 4 stars for the entire read, and a fifth star because I will read it again!
I was so eager to get to back to Ardani again. I have devoured all the other stories and still wanted more. I will say that it has been a while since I read Night Elves and I was a little foggy on who Kadaki and Neiryn were. I thought Sun Elves did a great job of giving enough past to help explain who they had been without needing to go back and reread Night Elves again. I will say you will want to have read Night Elves before because this story builds on the aftermath from Night Elves.
We get a different element in this story - the Elves have won the war and the humans are the losers. Those who live near the board between kingdoms get to see the remaining hostility every day. Just because the war is over doesn't mean the feelings leave. Exerting their superiority is not going to earn the elves any bonus points. This conflict continues to build right inside Kadaki's own home as the elves show up and claim access to their land and allow them to stay.
I love how Nina crafts her characters and this book is no exception. Kadaki and Neiryn have been doing their best to survive while they were apart. It slowly becomes apparent that surviving is all they were doing. Now that they are back together, they may have a second chance, if they can manage to survive the danger the Elves have unearthed.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
WESTRA’S done it again, another fave, CUTE THEY SO CUT-
Best read after book 1, as the main couple’s history is built off of the plot of bk 1. Although it probably holds up fine as a stand-alone.
Romantic, cross cultural situations, and reigniting an old (somewhat) flame. Happy ending, there’s banter and chemistry btn then that’s written so naturally and organically. sometimes the smarmy banter btn the main couple can feel forced and almost manufactured(I think I read too many trashy romances), but theirs isn’t. Nina Westra never fails me!!! They’re character are fleshed out so well that it’s just a masterpiece.
They are so cute and utterly sweet. yay this third book is SO GOOD. I’m a sucker for the smooth talker Nieryn who is so romantic and sweet on the awkward and introverted Kadaki. ARRRGGHH. How they get each other to open up to each other and see and love each other for who they are, ah, my heart💘. I love that we get so much depth we get to Nieryn’s character. More to his kind of casual, easy going , flirty demeanour. Also I love how the two cultures that were soo hostile to each other overcome their prejudice. They and become united which, of course the shared trauma and danger helps, and the problematic asses are gone 🙄
I’ll say it again DEFS WORTH READING, another favourite fantasy romance teehee

I have such a series hang over! Per her newsletter, the author is going to release another Elves of Ardani book some time this year and it can't come soon enough! Finding romance in a fantasy setting without royalty being involved is getting difficult to come by. These characters just come to life and always leave me wanting more (in the best way possible). The characters are always so fleshed out, with real personal issues they each need to work through and I just love going on that journey with them. Thankfully there are bonus scenes on her website! Sun Elves is another great addition but I hope to actually get to see Ysura soon! I think that was my only let down from this book. I had hoped Neiryn would be able to show Kadaki his home land. But who knows, maybe we'll get a taste of it as the series goes on. So far, I am absolutely loving the world she has created. I can't wait to see what Nina Westra brews up next, Ardani or otherwise!
4.75/5⭐️ This is the first book I’ve read in this series, and while it may be a little weird to start a series on book three, boy am I glad I did. This was a really enjoyable read complete with magic, super complicated relationships, a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers arc and so much more.
While I love the romance (Kadaki and Neiryn are just so sweet together). The action is what really pulled me in. Naturally there is a lot of tension between the Ardanian’s and the occupying elvish forces that just continues to spark conflict. There are battles involving magic, shovels, bottles, and even some battles with a mysterious creature that feasts on magic (which there is plenty for it to eat since Kadaki’s house rests above an axis of magic.
Overall I think this is a great read and am so thankful to the author for providing me an arc of this book (this review is given freely and voluntarily).
Sun Elves of Ardani is a fantastic story of enemies to lover’s romance and adventure that immerses the reader into an emotionally charged story. Five years after their first encounter Kadaki and Sun Elf Neiryn are reunited when a strange magic threatens the town where Kadaki now lives a town that also happens to border the Ysura Elven nation. I LOVED this new and well written third entry into the Ardani storyline with its well crafted characters and energy infused narrative. A kaleidoscope of events within a mystery of mages and magic, humans and elves deliver the reader yet another engaging and powerful excursion into a persistently well-developed world that produces one very enjoyable tale.

3.75 stars! I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review!
This book was really good! For awhile I was curious what the plot with the ruins were going to be. I really enjoyed it! It sounds like such a fascinating area.
The characters growth was fantastic. I won’t lie I disliked Rhian until like the 80 percent mark.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the romance I just want sure where the main guys head was at, but I was pleasantly surprised. I definitely recommend reading this! It’s the third book in the series but from what I understand each one is a standalone and this is the first one I have read.
I absolutely adore this series! I was so happy when I heard another book was coming! The third book arrived and I didn’t put it down until completed! I hope there will be more to come! I get absorbed into these books, they grab my focus and I feel as though I am part of the tale with the characters! Few writers captivate me this way, the author has a way of describing the scenes without distracting and forcing the details, I appreciate the magical world she has created, and just want more of the Sun, and Night elves!
Every book in this series so far has been beautiful. Stunning world building, each character deeply unique and well written, and of course the heart wrenching and steamy but also really wholesome romances. This third instalment yet again brings the overall world building forward and you get to fall even deeper in love with side characters from the first book. Loved the implied neurodivergent representation in this one, it’s really wholesome to find main characters that make you feel seen and understood.
When I finished the first book of this series (Night Elves), I rejected reading the second book (Rogue Elves) -- that's how annoyed I was that book 2 wasn't about Neiryn and Kadaki. Eventually Sun Elves came out, and it's everything I was hoping for. (So was Rogue Elves, BTW, which I only grudgingly read so I could continue to this one.)
The love story between Neiryn and Kadaki is so sweet and long overdue, but it's made even more sweet by the 5 years they were apart. I'm so looking forward to book 4!
Wow, was this story ever creative! I enjoyed the different people and types of magic. This was the first I’ve read from this author but I’m ready for more! The characters were very well developed, even if I didn’t always know how to pronounce their names. The main characters were easy to connect with. It was so easy to immerse myself into this world. I definitely recommend it!.

Jeji charakter je lehce netradicni, coz neni na skodu. Pribeh snadno plynul, nekde zajimaveji a rychleji, nekde se tahl. Zapletka dobra, lec trochu predvidatelna.
Though it's not necessary to read the others, I really enjoy this series. I like the characters and the world-building. And the story is well written making for an easy read. I really liked the set-up of this one. It felt like there was so much character depth and the relationship and personal conflict played so well into the external conflict. It was overall a great read.

The world building in this fantasy romance was lush and descriptive. The plotting was tight and exciting. The characterization was nuanced and these protagonists were deeply sympathetic. The development of the romantic relationship was an authentic slow to medium burn. I highly recommend this novel to readers who enjoy adult fantasy romance with high quality writing craftsmanship.

The way the main character in this book grapples with a developmental disability is really well written. I haven't seen this kind of representation in fantasy, especially for a female character, and its so refreshing.
The world building is great. Plus, the enemies to lovers tension is top tier. This might be my favorite romantasy book this year.
This is a very good enemies-to-lovers high fantasy romance.. I liked it.. It is steamy, magical and action packed, with interesting characters and great worldbuilding.

this was another winner in the Elves of Ardani series, it does a great job in continuing the story from the previous two books. It had what I enjoyed from Nina K. Westra and was glad I read this entry.

Another fabulous book for this story line. I was a bit skeptical of the time jump at first, but came to love the way it made the story progress. I cannot wait for more books in this series.
It was a sweet, feel good kind of book for me. Was I completely enthralled? No. But it was enjoyable and easy to fall into the world the author created. I was less into her night elves books, but this one was pretty solid.
Wasn’t my favorite characters to read about but the story was still fun! Less spice and more angst in this one. More than enough action/storyline to keep the reader entertained. Still would recommend!
I liked it a little less than the first and second installment - it was a bit more difficult to get into the dynamic with them having known each other when the female protag was very young, and him now being in a position of power in a occupied country as part of the victorious army.
