Silence Jones sometimes finds himself in a battle with another assassin, but never before has he confronted one who has lost touch with reality.
As Carla Olmeda slaughters more and more members of Miami’s criminal underworld, the city reaches full hysteria. The longer Silence tracks the deadly assassin, the more he learns about her schizophrenic delusions. He has a decision to make: is Carla aware of her crimes, or is she truly insane?
Silence must figure it out fast. Even more assassins are creeping into Miami, and a bloodbath is ready to erupt.
Erik Carter tells high-octane stories filled with action, suspense, and just the right amount of chaos.
His background is as eclectic as his stories—he’s a NASM-certified personal trainer, has taught college-level writing and film, worked for a history-based mobile app, co-hosted a TV show, and even created a top-ranked documentary on YouTube. He holds two master’s degrees—one in Telecommunications- Digital Storytelling and another in Public History—because one just wasn’t enough.
When he’s not writing, Erik is passionate about fitness, classic sports cars, movies, and books. He lives in sunny coastal Florida.
Silence has to contend with a self-appointed assassin who is the niece of the Olmeda Miami crime family. Carla is killing members of the rival Ignacio mob family because she believes they kidnapped her father many years ago and is now exacting revenge. She is schizophrenic but has also been trained in martial arts, so she is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Too, Silence has been assigned a "partner" named Rogue who is on probation with the Watchers. Silence is not happy about "baby sitting" him but Rogue is his able-voiced assistant. Also a “retired” mob assassin has come out of retirement to end his career on a high note by killing Silence also known in the underworld as “The Shadow.” This was certainly a high octane read!
A Silence Jones story never fails to deliver on fast paced action, an intricate and intriguing plot, good characters and the sort of grip that keeps you reading until you finish. Silence is one of the best of this genre. Already looking forward to the next one.
“Speechless”, the sixth book in the Silence Jones Action Thriller series, continues to deliver on the success of its previous in the series which all include plenty of action, loads of excitement, and a high amount of intrigue while still making this one feel both unique and innovative. The story of Silence continues to be refined and molded by author Erik Carter while the audiobook’s narration by Gary Bennett is always welcomed for this series, and others. The story of Silence continues to expand as he continues to get into more and more difficult situations in the hopes of paying off his debt to the Watcher society while bringing justice to those who cannot get it themselves. If you are one who gravitates to the action thriller genre, I can say that you will have quite a bit to consume if you have not yet picked up any of the audiobooks in this series. If you have listened to any of the previous ones, I recommend you pick up this one as well, it delivers on all fronts.
As with many in the series, this one opens with a rather graphic scene of murder. Right away the author drops the listener off in this world filled with assassins and various Cuban cartels all waring against one another. We do have some new players in this game of cat and mouse along with many new characters attempting to put a stop to Silence himself. The story’s opening is even a bit comical (as much as murder can be) where multiple assassins are all vying for the same target, and none wants to be one upped by the others for the prize money. Here we get a view into the family cartels working out of Cuba and their activity which spills out into parts of the United States. We begin to see how many are involved in the Watcher program and how some of these agents need to work together to solve the main issue. We are introduced to Stiletto, The Rogue, The Blade, and The Shadow throughout the course of the story, many more then previous stories. We also see how much of an art murder can be in the hands of these people.
The author does a good job of always providing enough detail and background on Silence so that each of the audiobooks in the series could be listened to individually. However, I would recommend you listen to them in order, as you will gain some much more detail that way. I find the author weaving in detail relating to Ceci and her many words of wisdom, but here we also see Silence’s loving and caring side during these events as well. What may at first seem like a robotic killing machine because he must, really is juxtaposed to his caring and focus upon justice for those who cannot get it in the regular ways. I did long for conversations with his neighbor from earlier books, but for this story Silence was away from his past residence.
The audiobook’s narration over the six so far in the series is exceptionally done by Gary Bennett. He fills the role of Silence so well, and as the series has progressed, we have been able to hear more from Silence himself. I cannot think of just how hard it is to narrate that gravelly voice as you can feel the pain every time he speaks. I could not imagine another picking up the narration for this series because the characters are so well ingrained that changing things would upset the series too much. All of Mr. Bennett’s works are professional and audio is of the highest quality, this audiobook is no exception.
For parents and younger listeners, as with all the previous audiobooks in this series, this one contains profanity, drug use, and rather graphic violence. It is not intended to be listened to by younger audiences. I would recommend the series for more mature listeners or adults only. The story is good, but the subject matter may not be appropriate for younger ears.
In summary, this was a welcomed addition to the series and Silence continues to deliver on the action and suspense. The author keeps the characters consistent yet fluid in their actions keeping the listener on their toes. I enjoyed the wonderful narration and just how it brings you into the story with a smooth pace yet is often interrupted when Silence himself speaks. I laugh every time I hear someone say “talk” as this makes me think of our main character from this series. I recommend you give it a listen!
Silence Jones confronts other assassins and his demons while quelling a spate of violence in Miami - 4 stars
In this episode, Silence Jones and his supporting cast are sent to Miami where a young girl has been slitting the throats of well-known Cuban-American gangsters. Each gangster was murdered in front of their own protective staff. The bloody purge has captured the public's imagination.
In an attempt to stop the bloodshed, Silence interrupts other less-observant professional assassins and even disarmed one. Miami's law enforcement professionals seem clueless except for one individual who is closely related to one of the crime families in the bloodletting. Silence expresses concern that lies and liars will not get the justice that they deserve.
It boils down to Silence's impressive skills against a vindictive pair of mafia-like Dons and a few non-aligned individuals with scores to settle. Quick moves are important for survival -- kicks, dodges, or feigns -- incapacitating slower strong-armed men or merely dodging bullets. When there are unexpected antagonists, some innocent members of the public are injured and the tough guys gain new scars or bloody reminders of the bursts of gunfire.
As more organized crime leaders are removed from circulation, the families start to prepare for an all-out battle. The assessment is that an army will be needed; it is too much for just one crime family. In this high-stakes drama only one person can muster the resources to achieve some justice without a war ... can he do it again? Speechless is a fast, fun read.
Speechless is the sixth book in the Silence Jones Action Thrillers series, and what a sixth book it was. I do like that Carter spends a few moments talking about how Silence got to be the current version of himself that he is. But going this deep into a series, you’ll have some moments you’ll miss if you haven’t read the other books, but I think Carter does a good job keeping those to a minimum.
This one was all over the place in a good way. Carter kept me guessing, especially with a character as unpredictable as Carla. I also want to give props to Bennett because reading the name “Carla Olmeda” is likely right on the razor’s edge of being a tongue twister. I think he nailed the performance, and as always, I love hearing him as Silence. He can pull off that scary/gravely tone without making it hard to listen to.
The focus of Silence in this one is Carla, but along the way, he ends up being given another assignment that seems to distract him numerous times. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about that playing out, but I ended up liking it a lot. It was a change of pace for these books, but having someone there instead of him acting alone made a few of the scenes even more intense.
Overall, I thought that this was another excellent Silence story. A bit different from the other five, but not in any way that made me want to stop reading at all. I want to know all of the cases that Silence gets into.
This Silence Jones goes straight in for the action in this book and although he usually works alone he does come across another colleague that was in his shoes but seems still to be a bit reluctant to kill after all these people are assassins. Silence also comes across an enemy and also the mob times 2. which could start a war on their own. This book did keep me on my toes as to who's who etc. There will be a bloodbath if the wrong people start a war and a lot is put on Carla Olmeda, as she is insane or is she? What happened to her all those years ago to send her over the top, she at least had someone to watch her back even though she didn't know it at the time. A good storyline lots of action and lots to take in. Good penmanship and good characterization make all the difference and unfortunately just one more Silence Jones to come.
An unpredictable page turner I love reading about Silence, in this book I got a little more insight to the Watchers organization that he works for. Fast pace with unpredictable twists and turns. Excellent writing with how the author gets into the heads of each character which gave me a real feel for the characters, as well as the detail of the scenes. This is a stand alone read that is of good length and kept me guessing to the end. Silence is an assassin who I can trust to do the right thing when things get messy. He is a man of action who does not panic and is able to think quickly on his feet. I highly recommend to read the whole series but each book is an enjoyable and entertaining read. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
Silence Jones is a paid assassin who is legendary. He is sent to see find out what is going on with a rash of cartel killings by a small woman. While scouting, Silence notices four other probable assassins as well. As things start to play out, it becomes evident that another of the watchers is also on this issue. A very interesting cast of characters, non stop action and a very well story line will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely a must read !
This was a compelling read, that I found I did not want to put down! Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. Suspenseful and thrilling. I felt every emotion. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. Simply a GREAT read!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
This is another cracking entertaining read. Full of action as usual, a good storyline and a few different threads of revenge running throughout. The series never fails to thrill you and I enjoyed the new colleague that suddenly appears to change things in Silence's world.
Looking forward to the next one. My thanks to the author for an advance copy of this and this is my honest review.
In this book Silence is involved in bringing in the niece of The Miami crime family. She is trained as a ninja and is in a killing spree. I loved this book! It grabs u from the first page and takes u on a wild ride! The action never stops! I loved all the characters especial Silence. He even gets to play mentor this time around! I highly recommend this book and this excellent series!
A great addition to the Silence Jones series. An intense story dealing with mental illness. A gripping read containing murder, manipulation, suspense, betrayal and lies. A book you won't want to put down. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.
Silence faces a new and different challenge in this book; can he handle working with a partner? What if he has no choice? This is a well paced book with great characters. Each book in the series further describes and defines each character so you feel like you know them. I highly recommend this book to all thriller lovers!
Thank you , Mr. Carter for this special time reading your book. It's not the only one I have. All of them are worth the time and money I invested in them. Monica Beltrami. Montevideo, Uruguay.
Suppressor is know as the silent enforcement arm of some agency. His leg and is getting out, not a good thing for the work he does. These stories are well written with good character support. Always a great read.
This book is not the first Silence Jones I have read, but it was very satisfying. The dance between Silence and his newly assigned mentee was a special look into the brain of Jones.
Another first class thriller in the Silence Jones series. Non-stop action and suspense from a diverse range of characters, this is a must read for Silence fans. Highly recommended for anyone who has not yet started to follow Silence, as every episode is a true stand alone novel.
I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review. As usual when you read Silence Jones stories fast paced and full of action. Very enjoyable read.
