It's fascinating to follow Dodd's entries. He was honest, opinionated, hated Hitler, and was an excellent writer.

Two strange omissions ...

1. no mention of the 1935 Nuremberg Laws

2. no mention of Kristallknacht in Nov 1938

Mr. Dodd was the U.S. Ambassador to Germany from '33-'38. His diary was published in '41. There are parts that are downright chilling with the benefit of hindsight, but the writing is clear and provides an incredible view of a man attempting to be a good public servant (and historian) in an increasingly abnormal environment.

I read this book as a part of my goal to read one book from every aisle in Olin Library. A fuller reaction will follow on my blog https://jacobklehman.com/ eventually.
