Violaine Pierce was a skilled hunter of supernatural creatures. Her life as a huntress was turned upside down when she was killed while fighting a clan of vampires and was sent to the underworld to live out her afterlife. Her life started once it ended. Once in the underworld, by a twist of fate, she marries the king over the realm — Sebastian Sapphira. It’s through her marriage that she finds out the dark truths surrounding herself and the monarchy of the underworld.
LOVED!! I really liked how the main character was a strong female character and not a female character that needs saving from a male character lol. I also liked the side characters Justin and Scott (hope they’re in the second book). If you like fantasy with romance, humor, and a strong female character then you’ll love this book <3
Found this book on tiktok! Really like fantasy so i like the world building and the supernatural characters. Also saw on tiktok that there is a second book coming out so im guessing it has to do with the deal the FMC made with the character named Scott. Im really excited to see how the second book will play out!
Letifan- creatures born in & of the underworld Supernatural Realm- SR
Thoughts:
*Love a story that includes a map *Not sure how V thinks everything was her fault as the fae would of done what they did without her making a deal with them. * Didn't understand why V stayed at Ryx Manor like what was her plan to sulk around for months waiting for Sebastian to bring her to SR while they treat her like crap? She already knows how to do that because she can vanish. * Then the whole Hercules meeting up with Ender & then she just brushes it off like oh I've got other things to worry about so worry about that later?? Like why that's like super important. Dude from your dreams is there like wth? * But then makes a comment about going into her dreams and talking to him later? She could have just vanished to him and then vanished back to RyX Manor since she knew where he was since she went there. * so at 66% they give enough info to give away the plot Seb Mom was the advisors to the orginal ruling Pierce family. There was an uprising by the fae/witches & they killed all of the Pierce family. Seb mom ruled until she was killed & he took over. So V is from the orginal blood line. * V has a dream of Ender & he tells her to go to manor library but instead she gets high with Seb first like what? * theres ubrupt cut offs to the story which make the flow of the story kind of off. * so not sure if there are meant to be other books but there are alot of open ended options in the book to allow this like the deal with Scott.
Synopsis:
Violaine (V) is an Elite Hunter under Zara. She's devoted her life to fighting supernatural creatures & lives in NYC.She has dreams of darkness & someone (Ender) calling her name. She goes to see Zara who gives her a solo mission to kill a vampire clan killing human. Zara sent V to kill them all alone which was a bit off as they normally dont work solo. She kills a bunch of them but then gets hurt & dies.
She wakes up in the underworld in the forest (similar to the one she died in just muted in color) close to the city of Unryx. She found a women(Rou) in the woods who owns a bar. At the bar a Fae sees her birthmark on her shoulder tells her he knows what she is but theres a price to pay. She gets drugged & wakes up in a red wedding dress being married to Sebastian.
Long story short H & Seb & Towns are Besties. Towns has a female lover Rosie. T had to marry or her parents were going to arrange a marriage. A witch had a prophecy telling Seb he was going to get a wife. So he told T they could marry & she could be with Rosie.
V finds out she us a Letifan which is a "creatures of the underworld which born here, live here, and die here. They dwell in this realm. It makes no sense that you’d dwell in the supernatural realm, live out the life of a hunter, die as a human, and be reborn in the underworld as its native creature. When hunters die, they normally come to rest here as the immortal humans that they were.
She goes to find Rou works with her & searches for a way yo bream this eternal marriage bond with Seb. She finds out she has the power of starlight/blinding light.
She sees the Fae in the bar and asks about Towns. He tells her to go to Fairnyx/ fae territory and she may find what she seeks. She takes Sebastian to Fairnyx where they meet the Fae from the bar & his Sister Violet who are Fae Royalty. Violet grab both V & Seb wrist & made a deal they could get Towns tomorrow. Seb tells V he is unable to travel through the realms for a time now. 33% Seb tells her she maybe able to travel through realms as she is technically the queen. She tries & makes it to the realm but her wrist is bleeding so she goes back to Seb. Violet held a party where V learned of a prophecy that Seb would be stronger with a queen. Violet offered herself but he turned her down for a commoner, Towns. After the party she brings out Towns who is dead. V was mad & ended up calling the white light she used in the dream and leveled the whole fae kingdom & all the fae in it. Seb tells V that Towns,Herculas & Seb were childhood friends. Towns had a female lover Rosie who was of lower station & her parents wouldnt let them marry. But would arrange a marriage for her. Around this time Seb prophecy about taking a wife came so he offered to marry Towns. This way Towns could be with Rosie. Then it jumps ahead a few weeks. She overhears a convo between Seb & Herculas about how Seb isnt upset with V as she didnt know the Fae would do that when all she wanted was answers. Seb also says he doesnt think V was ever human as she can summon the stars & the underworld no longer answers to him. She stayed at Ryx Manor to sulk? around for months waiting for Sebastian to bring her to her old realm while they treat her like crap/or she doesnt exist but she already knows how to do that because she can vanish. She sees Hercules grab 2 girls (Raylee and Bryana) and vanish what she followwed him by thinking about him and she hid & heard Hercules talking to the guy in her dream. R&B grab Her and tell her to go back to the manner and that they can operate because all 3 of them are from a different realm(higher) than the underworld and that Hercules loves the underworld & is besties with Seb. They vanish her back to her bedroom in Ryx Manor. 49% Then she says that she's not going to process what's going on with Hercules by that she's going to ask the guy in her dreams and when she dreams about him. She asked if he knew how to Hercules but the light was too bright and he couldn't answer. She goes to talk to Seb and learn more about him. She tells him she was an orphan who was raised by Zara. She takes Seb to the The supernatural realm so that she can take him ice skating there she sees the guy from her dreams and as she's going to him the hunter's come and attack her and someone was gonna stab her in the back Seb stopped this and got stabbed in the side. She vanished them to Ryx Manor. 60% She finally starts to suspect that the hunters killed her on purpose. Hercules was rude for no reason trying to force her to leave the underworld. An ancestral witch maybe able to talk to Violets spirit to get them to break the binding between V & Seb. She soon finds out Sebs mother had killed many of the witches in the Underworld during her ruling & many are still in hiding. Seb learned his mother was the advisor to the orginal family who ruled but an uprising killed all of the original family so she became the ruler & when she died he became the ruler.
((certain I was a hunter that died and became a Letifan — Letifarians were native creatures to the underworld. The supernatural breed didn’t usually possess powers of any sort, yet I did. In every way that counted, I was an anomaly. I had a feeling that I wasn’t the only oddity of the breed either. The Letifan that continued to present himself in my dreams had powers as well. When mine had been dormant, his was the one accidentally expelling us from the dreams. There marriages were eternal. The only creature with the capabilities to leave the realm was the singular monarch that ruled over the realm. I possessed these abilities, yet couldn’t leave the underworld because of the enchantment put on Sebastian and I by Violet.))
She decides she wants to stay in the underworld with Seb. She has a dream & learns Enders name & he tells her to go to the manors library. She goes to the library see a photo of the Pierce family. The kids Ender with a python brand matching hers on his hand. Its a bloodline brand for nobility. They all get them as children. Hercules shows up with a witch who says Violet wants to show her a memory she shares with Seb. In the memory Seb went to the archives & was beaten by the queen but found out Auric( who now goes by Zara) & her half siblings Ender & Violaine were all most likely alive because their bodies were never found. Then that night the Fae came in & killed the queen. Violet tried to get Seb to eventually marry her & produce a heir so her bloodline would sit on the throne. Then the memory ended. She leaves for awhile Rou tells her to visit Ender. Ender tells her of a prophecy their parents received. Promising of heirs with powers. A son from the void & a daughter of starlight. After centuries no babies so the king had a child (Auric) with a fae servant. Then Ender was born to the queen soon after. Auric didnt show powers. Centuries later Violaine was born with powers. Queen wanted to step down & have Ender rule as King but the Fae believed Auric to be the rightful ruler but she wasn't the queens blood & it wasn't her birthright. So the fae staged an uprising. During this all 3 siblings got out. Ender vanished them to the supernatural realm(SR) but Auric fae cursed him & V. He couldn't leave the SR but Auric didnt realize she couldn't leave either as she wasnt peirce blood so she didnt get the Monarch rulers power Ender did but she had cursed him. Auric ran with V & created the hunter organization. Ender has a daughter Sooki. When Ender comes back to the underworld she should lose her powers & Ender will have them. Similar as to what happen with Seb when V showed up. Afterwards she meets up with Seb & they do the dirty & she tells him about her meet up with Ender. He tells her to have Hercules warriors help to take down Auric. She brings Seb with her to see Ender tells her that they need to be careful because Auric may have had a Fae curse her too so when she dies she'd go back to the underworld & cause problems. They think a demon will be able to help trap her in Hell. So she couldnt get to the Underworld realm of she dies. So Scott the (Half Demon/Vampire) makes a deal with V to take Auric to the underworld. They go to the SR & handle Auric & talk to the hunters who said they started to doubt auric after V died. Then the book ends with an epilogue a year later showing V as queen with Seb as her advisor/King.

This story has so much potential but was let down by the lack of facts and also too many fact at the same time. Also plot holes so many plot holes I don’t know where to start! Needs a decent editing
Overall concept and world building was very interesting, though there are several areas I wish the author had expanded on. Maybe in a sequel we will get more answers?
The pacing and writing style was a little difficult for me to get used to in the beginning of the story. The author seems to get more of a natural flow and rhythm once the story picks up though.
I love to see indy authors, but I BEG YOU, please get an editor.
My complaints: -some of the dialogue is very cliche
-FMC makes a deal with a fae to figure out what “creature” she has become. Later in the story she gets access to another person exactly like her (actually, several. It doesn’t seem like a rare creature at all??), as well as a whole history book about her species, and she doesn’t make any further attempt to understand what she is. Even though she does actually nothing for weeks at a time. I just don’t know if I fully understand the motivations of the FMC.
-the “King” of the Underworld also doesn’t..do anything? I think we are supposed to like him as the MMC but he just felt undeveloped as a character. He doesn’t know what his mother did when she ruled (but was also involved in much of her ruling thanks to his childhood abuse??), he is not skilled in combat, he can’t cut a tomato, he lacks any defining characteristics outside of his “ash blonde hair” and his “aquamarine eyes”. Literally not a single person treats him with an iota of respect. He essentially lets his “friend”/ second in command Hercules run the show. Basically, whats the point in having him here at all? I don’t find him to be charming in the slightest.
-MMC doesn’t know what Christmas is but also uses the phrase “not all heros wear capes” yet also supposedly has never watched tv, but also reads smut.
-Why do we spend so much time talking about TRASH DAY when we literally don’t know anything about the type of creature she is?
-FMC has the power and the “motivations” to do literally everything she is worried about / wanting to, yet she spends her time moping around the manor doing nothing for at least 2/3 of the book
-we learn more about two random drug dealing vampires named Justin and Scott in the last couple chapters than we EVER do about the FMC’s supposed POWER TO SUMMON STARS
Overall great concept but the execution was severely lacking.
I really enjoyed this book. I was struggling to find a new book that held my interest and would be enjoyable to read. While I normally go for the morally grey MMC it was a nice refreshing change to have the king of the underworld be kind of a cinnamon roll.
Was the writing the most stellar and complex? No, not really. Did I enjoy the story and feel good at the end? Yes, I would have to say that I did.
I also liked that it was a stand alone book. There is no reason to drag this story out when it is perfectly enjoyable as a stand alone.
I would recommend this book to someone looking for a feel good rom-com style low spice fantasy romance.
I won this from a Goodreads giveaway! I think this was great for a debut. The story line and characters were on point and I generally enjoyed this read! The only thing I have to say is this could have been sooooo much more !!!! It was lacking in some random areas of the plot but I feel this author is going to have some great material in the future I’ll be following her so I can check out the next book!
This book! I want to start by saying that this is not the usual genre that I would choose to read BUT it might be now! When I choose something different than my ‘usual reads’, the plot has to keep my interest and this one did! I found it to be unputdownable! It was peppered with intrigue! I loved the characters: especially Violaine, Sebastian, Rou and Scott! I loved Violaine and Sebastian’s banter and budding romance! This book taught me once again that stretching yourself out of your comfort zone (in your reading choices) is a good thing and perhaps judging a book by the cover is actually a good thing because this one is gorgeous! I can’t wait for the next book from this author!
