I tried my best to really enjoy this book, as a fellow indie author I know how hard it is to debut your very first novel.
That being said, I couldn't get behind the multiple errors in grammar, spelling, and general typos overall. They distracted me constantly and made it very clear this wasn't edited at all.

The story itself, I really really wanted to like. It was danganronpa mixed with one of my favorite games I liked to play in high school. And while I was enticed to keep reading to find out who lives and who dies, I was really disappointed to find out it was a "one and done" situation and the players wouldn't get multiple rounds of killings to find out who the wolves were like the version I used to play. That would've made it way more interesting, we would've gotten to really know the characters, guess who the wolves are, and attach ourselves to a character only to be crushed when they ended up dead. But instead, the novel was short with extremely long chapters and an ending that left me more confused than anything else.
***spoiler alert***
You never find out who the person is behind the horrific game. The sole survivor is left just wallowing in her guilt, so much so that in a very graphic rape scene she starts to (disgustingly) say she deserves it.
***spoiler alert over***
Also, in the very first chapter someone is called the N slur and I actually closed my kindle app for a moment and had to decide if I wanted to still continue reading.

So, I give this debut novel a 2 outta 5. The concept was great, and there were definitely parts I enjoyed. But the lack of editing and some what offensive portions of this book made it feel juvenile. Like something I would read on Wattpad.

But, there's always more stories to tell and chances to grow, and I have hope that Leon's next book will be even better.

“We Become Beasts” delivers on many levels. Suspense, mystery and horror are all on full display here in a twisted tale by Leon Andrews. Dropping us directly into the middle of the action created a strong mystery element right away which sucked me in on the first page. A group of people have been placed in a room and are forced to play a sick game. With shades of “Saw”, “Cube” and Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None”, it would be a disservice to readers to give too much more away. All I will say though is buckle in. It’s a twisted and thrillingly unpredictable ride. I want to thank Leon Andrews for sending me an ARC of “We Become Beasts”. Add this to your TBR.

Very engaging! What I really like about this book is it doesn’t go the way you expect it to. It takes a familiar premise but goes in its own direction with unexpected twists. I also really enjoy the modern vibe that is very relatable showing that any average person could have been put in this situation. The characters feel very real in this way and it’s easy to feel bad for them and the choices they have to make. And not all the characters are likable but I still found myself rooting for them the whole way none the less. All in all it was a good read that I would read again during spooky season.

We Become Beasts is a solid debut from author Leon Andrews. While there area few grammatical mistakes (mostly minor, and never got in the way of my understanding of what was happening), the writing and the characters kept me interested in finding out what happened next. The pacing dropped off slightly in the middle, but quickly gained it's second wind and kept it to the very end. Overall, an enjoyable read.
