As a successful mystery author, Bailey Briggs writes about murder, but nothing prepares her for actually discovering the dead body of the founder of her hometown of Humble Hills, Colorado. Bailey grew up at Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch and was raised by her beekeeping grandmother, Blossom Briggs, aka Granny Bee, and her two eccentric sisters, Aster and Marigold—which is why she drops everything to come home and help Granny Bee after a bad fall.

A broken foot doesn’t stop her grandmother from ruling The Hive, her granny’s book club, or continuing to prepare and package her bee-inspired products. But when Bailey's grandmother’s infamous "Honey I'm Home" hot spiced honey turns out to “bee” the murder weapon and her granny is now the prime suspect, Bailey has no choice but to use her fictional detective skills to help solve the murder and ‘smoke-out’ the real culprit.

With the help of Bailey’s witty bestie, a pair of meddling aunts, the feisty members of The Hive, and her computer-savvy daughter, this amateur sleuth is determined to solve the case. A malicious attack and an ominous threat reveal that someone wants Bailey to butt out of the investigation, but there’s no way she’s backing down. Take the Honey and Run is book one in the brand new series, A Bee Keeping Mystery, by Jennie Marts. This is a cozy mystery and wow what a mystery it was! I had no idea who the culprit was! Jennie kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages as fast as I could read them! And, the cover is absolutely adorable!

Bailey Briggs is a mystery author. She and her twelve year old daughter Daisy, have come home to Humble Hills, Colorado to stay with her beloved grandmother while she recuperates from a broken ankle. Along with their adorable golden retriever, Cooper. Bailey’s childhood home was Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch. It’s where her grandmother still lives and thrives with all of her bee hives and products she makes from the honey!

Unfortunately, not long after Bailey, Daisy and Cooper return home, there is a murder in Humble Hills, and Bailey discovers the body! Now Bailey’s grandmother seems to be the key suspect when her honey is found at the murder scene.

This was so much fun and an amazing who-done-it! Bailey’s grandmother’s sisters and friends are the Bee Hive, posing as a book club! And we won’t even discuss what they really put in their tea cups! And, there is also Bailey’s childhood sweetheart, the swoony Sawyer Dunn, who is now the sheriff of Humble Hills.

This mystery was completely solved but it’s clear there is more mischief for these characters to get in to. I can’t wait to see what Jennie has in store for these wacky women and poor Sheriff Dunn next!

An adequate first book in a new series which establishes the scene and the characters, and gives the reader a taste of what is to come.

Bailey and her daughter, Daisy, return to her old home town to stay with Granny Bee, who is a beekeeper and purveyor of honey and all its by products. When a murder occurs it appears the victim was allergic to bees, and the honey all over his face is the cause of his death. Granny Bee is immediately at the top of the list of suspects.

Bailey discovers the Sheriff is a long lost love from her past, but then proceeds to infuriate him by investigating the murderer herself. I was uncomfortable with this aspect of the story especially since he let her do pretty much as she pleased including interviewing suspects in their own homes. I am pretty sure if a stranger knocked on my door and asked me where I was on the evening of such and such I would tell them to mind their own business. Anyway Bailey solves the murder and the guilty party is quite a surprise.

I would be happy to read the next book in this series. This one was very readable and humorous, and it will be interesting to see whether the Sheriff and Bailey get back together.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Bailey Briggs and her twelve year old daughter Daisy arrived back in Humble Hills, Colorado, to stay with Granny Bee - Bailey's gran, Daisy's great-gran - after a fall resulted in a broken foot. Bailey was a successful crime/mystery writer, with eight books to her name. But when she discovered the dead body of the Humble Hills mayor, she knew it was worse than living it in fiction.

Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch had been Bailey's home for a lifetime, and Granny Bee, the largest beekeeper in the area. Everyone loved the honey, with the whole town having at least one jar in their cupboards. Except for the mayor, who was highly allergic. It was discovered Granny Bee's honey was a factor in his death - now she was a suspect, high on the list. Bailey and her best friend Evie decided it was up to them to solve the case, to stop Granny Bee going to prison. The local policeman, Sawyer, was an old friend of Bailey's - but would he mind her helping?

Take the Honey and Run by Jennie Marts was laugh out loud entertainment! I thoroughly enjoyed this 1st in the Bee Keeping Mystery series, and look forward to the 2nd. Great characters, lots of suspects, with the culprit being quite a shock (to me). Daisy and her adorable dog, golden retriever Cooper, (his picture on the cover) plus the aged members of The Hive, Granny Bee's book club, all made for a fun and entertaining cozy mystery. Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

Bailey is a mystery writer who’s moved back home to Humble Hills, Colorado and her Granny Bee’s ranch, Honeybuzz Mountain. She’s not home a day when she finds a dead body, the mayor and founder of her hometown. She’s also shocked to find out her old high school sweetheart is the new sheriff…and that her Granny Bee is suspect #1 in the mayors murder. She decides she is going to do her own investigating and with the help of her lifelong best friend, Evie and her private investigator friend, Griffin, they hunt for clues to find who really murdered the mayor.

This is my first book by this author and the first book in a new series by her. I really enjoyed it, the characters and the storyline. I did notice the author has LOTS of series, but not many books in each, so I’ll be disappointed if that trend continues with this series as well.

Take the Honey and Run by Jennie Marts
A Bee Keeping Mystery series #1. Cozy mystery.
Bailey Briggs is a successful fiction mystery writer. She grew up at Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch in the small town of Humble Hills, Colorado where her grandmother has a beekeeping farm. Bailey finds the dead body of the founder of the town and she needs to use her fictional detective skills to find the killer or her grandmother may be the one arrested!

Lots of bee keeping references around the town and used in the story like The Hive which is a bookclub. The elderly aunts, and neighbors are humorous in their helping. I’m not sure if the local Sheriff is putting on an act or maybe otherwise busy but he seemed to be missing as bee-hive women did their thing. Bailey and the women solve the mystery of who the guilty perp is but it’s clearly the start of a series of cozies yet to come.
Amusing amateur sleuthing.
Several recipes with honey elements included at the end of the print book.

Bailey Briggs is a successful mystery author who moves to Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch with her twelve year old daughter, Daisy, when her Granny Bee ‘Blossom Briggs’ breaks a foot. Bailey and Daisy fit right in with “The Hive”—Granny’s friends and book club members. Bailey is also reunited with Sawyer Dunn, her teenage crush. Arriving at the farm, they see Granny Bee running off Werner Humble for making a pass at her! The Hive is swarming around her and they’re all upset. Werner’s allergic to bees and they’re surprised he even set foot on the property because of all Granny’s beehives. Within hours, Bailey and Sawyer find Werner’s sticky corpse at his home and one of Granny Bee’s jars of honey nearby. I laughed so hard when the medical examiner arrived—he’s read all of Bailey’s books and he is FUNNY! Author Jennie Marts inserts a lot of comical moments into the plot line which I fully enjoyed! The Hive members are also a hoot! For a bunch of aging women, they have a lot of love troubles that will soon be revealed. LOL!

Bailey declares she’s going to solve the murder mystery using her writer skills to clear Granny’s name. Her best friend, Evie, helps her, and these two get into soooo much trouble that had me laughing out loud constantly. They soon find out Werner was a scumball. Everywhere Bailey and Evie go; Sawyer, who’s the Sheriff, is just steps behind them. Many clues are dropped throughout this excellent story and the author weaves some really great information in and out to throw you off the killer’s trail. I liked all the banter between the friends, and yessss—a hidden room livens up the mystery! There are many satisfying twists and turns to the story. Can you figure out the killer before the reveal? I found “Take the Honey and Run” very entertaining and I highly recommend! The author graciously provides delicious recipes for readers.

I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books. All opinions are my own.

Mood/ Seasonal Reading: lots of cozy vibes and cute descriptions of bees so I would say spring or summer

Not too much to say about this one. I think it’s an excellent start to what could be a new great series for me! I loved the characters they were an absolute highlight for me. I can’t wait to continue with all of them in the next instalment. In fact, there wasn’t a single one I disliked which is rare.

The mystery was a bit weaker. It didn’t hold my attention fully and the reveal didn’t blow me away but it was enjoyable.

Overall, I think this was an excellent first instalment and I’m hoping the books get even better from here.

Dollycas's Thoughts

Bailey Briggs writes murder mysteries so she should be able to solve one, right?

Bailey, her 12-year-old daughter, Daisy, and their golden retriever Cooper have come home to the Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch to help her Granny Bee with the ranch when a fall leaves her with a broken foot. Her grandmother raised her and she has so many great memories of her time there. Her grandmother has her "hive" of friends and her sisters, Aster and Marigold but Bailey is happy to do whatever she can to help her granny never expecting that would entail keeping her out of jail for murder.

Werner Humble, the town's founder is dead and Bailey was the first on the scene followed quickly by a man she has a lot of history with Sawyer Dunn who now happens to be the sheriff. It is the jar of "Honey I'm Home" hot spiced honey made by Grandma Bee and some threatening words by her at him that land her at the top of the suspect list for Wener's murder though.

Much to the frustration of Sheriff Dunn, Bailey has decided to solve the murder herself with the help of her BFF, her social media maven daughter Daisy, and the ladies of the Hive. She is going to have to "bee" careful. Can she spread enough honey around to catch a killer or will she get permanently stung?

___

This story grabbed me from page 1! I love that the author had me giggling right away and it continued throughout the whole story.

Mystery author Bailey Briggs is a wonderful protagonist. She and her best friend Evie had what Sheriff Sawyer Dunn called a Lucy and Ethel moment and that is truly what they felt like, a modern-day Lucy and Ethel. I enjoyed the banter between Sawyer and Bailey and their interesting history. Granny Bee was a hoot and her sisters and friends were hilarious. For being the first book in the series, the characters were fleshed out pretty well but there is plenty of room for growth and an important secret yet to be revealed. I do love that all the women in the Briggs family are named after flowers. Bailey's is named after one of her mother's favorite roses, the Bailey Red.

The mystery was very well-plotted. The deceased fancied himself to be quite a lady's man and had dated or was dating several women from the Humble Hills area which means there was a large suspect pool. Their motives become clear when we learn why he was dating such an assortment of women. I was kept guessing the entire way and a little saddened when all was revealed as were Sawyer, Bailey, and others.

Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch sounds like a delightful place. It is easy to see why Bailey loves it there and now wants to share that life with her daughter.

The recipes at the end of the book, from the kitchens of Blossom Briggs (Granny Bee), her sister Aster and Rosa Delgado are so tempting too. I can't wait to try them.

With Take the Honey and Run Jennie Marts has set this series off to a fantastic start. With fabulous characters, plenty of humor, and a stirring mystery set in a bee-utiful place, it feeds every cozy craving. With the little bit of a cliffhanger at the end, I feel like this is just the bee-ginning of what I truly hope is a long-running series.

My thoughts
I was left feeling like I wanted more from this story, yes it has a sunny-go-happy vibe and the title and book cover gives off what it is meant to .... a cozy vibe, but where is the hive? The honey? I thought this was going to be centred around a bee hive-honey establishment and it wasn't really detailed enough for me, I was also expecting a more in depth investigation with the detective scenes, but it was too honeyed up, not enough stickiness and bitterness and not enough grunt, so my overall conclusion is that this story is more for the younger generation (I'm more of the Agatha Christie generation). I would recommend this book to someone who wants a hallmark cozy vibe, but not serious nor indepth, it does have a happy glow throughout, but for me missed out on the detective/detailed surroundings.

Oh goodness, this is a fun book and a great start to a new series!

Bailey Briggs may be a successful mystery author but she’s also a good friend, a loving granddaughter, and a single mom to a tween girl. Bailey and her daughter Daisy are a dynamic duo, and Cooper the dog is just adorable. She also surrounds herself with swoony men – some are just friends, and others are maybe more. And one in particular has me rooting for a second chance romance as the series continues! Bailey’s best friend Evie, Granny Bee, aunts, and the other members of The Hive (Granny Bee’s close knit circle of friends) are hoots, all of them. And I laughed out loud frequently at their antics. Like when Evie and Bailey break into… well, I don’t want to spoil it for you. Or the scene where The Hive tackles… oops. Don’t want to give that away either. You’ll just have to read it for yourself, but prepare to be entertained!

As far as the mystery goes, it’s a bit of a sticky situation that gets stickier by the chapter. The victim is extremely unlikable and gets even more so as the story progresses, so there are a plethora of potential suspects – including Bailey’s Granny Bee. I thought the author did a great job of plotting the twists and red herrings and taking me by surprise on more than one occasion. Bailey’s high school sweetheart Sawyer would definitely prefer she stay out of the investigation but he also respects her intuition and I’m pretty sure he’s still in love with her… which makes my KissingBooks heart very happy, as I’m sure you guessed. I loved the easy chemistry between them, and I just really loved Sawyer’s character in general. For that matter, I loved nearly all of the characters in Take the Honey and Run (except, of course, for the ones I wasn’t supposed to like).

Bottom Line: Take the Honey and Run by Jennie Marts is full of honey, homicide, hilarity, and hunks! (Okay, maybe not FULL of hunks but there are at least three who add a bit of swoon factor to this mystery.) Bailey, her best friend, her grandmother, and her aunts – as well as several other supporting characters – are hysterical and had me chuckling more than once, and I loved the ‘Murder She Wrote’ vibes that Bailey channeled as a mystery-writer-turned-amateur-sleuth herself. Bailey’s daughter Daisy is an amateur sleuth in the making, too, and the chemistry between Bailey and her ex-boyfriend is also lots of fun. And while there are some delightful romcom vibes in this book, it is still very much a cozy mystery (complete with endearing dog Cooper) and a well-plotted one at that. Just about the time I thought I had the culprit figured out, another twist proved me wrong … right up until the end. An ending with a heck of a hook for the next installment of the series, too, because I’m not sure that certain secrets are as secret as Bailey thinks they are!

Reviewer’s Note: Followers of my reviews may want to be aware that there are a couple of instances of a stronger curse word and a handful of mild cursing, as well as some innuendo, in this book.

A wonderful debut into a new cozy series - A Bee Keeping Mystery. I really enjoyed everything about this book. The setting, cast and mystery were all simply fantastic!!

Colorado is a state that captured my heart many decades ago so I love stories that take place there. Humble Hills was the perfect backdrop for this story. I loved the Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch and quaint small town vibe. I liked hearing about the care of the bees (my grandpa was an apiarist). Not only was honey used as the cause of murder, but it was mentioned all throughout the book from cooking with it to creating homemade goods such as candles from the wax. The book does conclude with several honey infused recipes that the characters made.

This cast was so easy to love. I always enjoy finding a parent in a cozy mystery. Bailey is a fantastic mom and I adored her relationship with her daughter Daisy. Then you meet Granny and the aunts and they might simply steal the show. Don’t let their age fool you, they are full of snark and provide plenty of humor. Bestie Evie and her grandma Rosa round out the mix and also provide tasty treats. The good guys in this book are all hunks and the love interest, Sawyer, is leading the pack. I love that him and Bailey have a complicated past full of miscommunication. Gives this mystery an added light second chance romance. There’s definitely plenty of guarded chemistry between the two.

The mystery hit it out of the park. It was full of twists, turns, red herrings, surprises and suspense. The victim was a shady Mayor so he was easy to hate and had quite a list of plausible enemies. I suspected every single one of the culprits at one point so it was fun trying to sort through the clues and figure this case out.

I’m looking forward to watching this series grow!! I’m also quite curious about the secrecy surrounding Daisy’s dad.

Bailey Briggs returns home to help, with her daughter, Daisy, to Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch and the farm she was raised on. Blossom Briggs, better known as Granny Bee is Bailey's grandmother and a beekeeper. Bailey isn't prepared for two things, her 'old bad boy' boyfriend, Sawyer Dunn, and watching Granny Bee toss the town founder off the property.

When Bailey and Sawyer find the town founder dead, evidence points to Granny Bee. Defying the sheriff’s orders, Bailey, and her best friend, Evie, find themselves in all kinds of outrageous predicaments to find the real killer.

This is the first book in the series, where all the women in the Briggs family are named after flowers. I enjoyed Granny Bee's two eccentric sisters, high tea, and how The Hive all came to Granny Bee's rescue leaving the sheriff exasperated. It is a fun plot and includes some yummy-looking recipes in the back of the book. I look forward to reading the second book.

After learning her beloved Granny Bee has broken her foot, Bailey Briggs and her 12-year old daughter, Daisy, return home. Granny Bee is a beekeeper and maker of various and sundry bee related products. When the town's mayor is found dead, it's quickly determined to be due to his bee allergy. As Granny Bee has threatened his life the previous day, she quickly rose to suspect Number 1. Bailey, a mystery author by profession rises to the challenge to save Granny Bee. The characters in this debut cozy offer plenty of potential for further stories, as well as they did in this well paced mystery. Take the Honey and Run was an absolutely delightful cozy from bee-ginning to end! I adored the characters and the town. Bailey was smart and I love that she is an author. There were enough suspects to keep me guessing. I always like when the victim is someone despicable enough that there is no shortage of suspects. I cannot wait for more in this series already. I have to know what adventures await Granny Bee, Bailey, Daisy, Sawyer and everyone else in Humble Hills.

I received an early copy in the hopes I would review it. I am honestly sharing my own opinion, which is not influenced in any way.

Fun debut, and interesting start to the Bee Keeping Mystery series.

The characters were charming, the mystery was intriguing enough, and it took me a while to figure it out.

The granny and aunts had me laughing, but also wondering. Wondering who, wondering why, wondering if it was them.

Love the setting, the town, the secondary characters, and can't wait to return to the Ranch.

In short: Book 1 in a new series featuring Bailey returning home to Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch to help her grandmother after a bad fall. When her grandmother becomes the prime suspect in a murder Bailey sets about solving the mystery.

🐝How were the characters?
Loved them! Bailey, her daughter, Granny Bee, The Hive….so charismatic, realistic and lovable. I also liked Sawyer, the sheriff, and past love interest.

🐝How was the mystery?
Well plotted and kept me guessing. The victim was quite the ladies man which is to many suspects. I thought for sure I knew whodunnit but was wrong. Great red herrings!

🐝Favorite things about the book?
So much! I always love the returning home and 2nd chance romance tropes. This book had great characters, lots of family dynamics and a fun setting. I’d love a little more bee keeping involved and hopefully that comes with book 2!

Take The Honey And Run is the first book in the A Bee Keeping Mystery series by Jemmie Marts.

Bailey Briggs and her twelve-year-old daughter, Daisy, have returned to Humble Hills, Colorado. Bailey is returning to help her grandmother, Blossom(Granny Bee), who has broken her foot, around her honeybee farm. As they pull up in the driveway, Bailey sees Granny Bee having a heated argument with the founder and mayor of Humble Hills, Werner Humble. Bailey will soon stop by Humble’s house to smooth over things and discover what caused the argument with Granny Bee. Bailey can see Humble on the dining room floor and tries to enter the house. Sheriff Sawyer Dunn, who Bailey had just run into, breaks open the door. They find Humble dead, a large biscuit with Granny Bee’s honey spread on it, and a large bite taken out of it next to his body. Humble was known to be allergic to honey and most likely died of anaphylactic shock. Granny Bee will become the primary suspect as Sawyer heard her threaten him the day before at her home. Sawyer had been Bailey’s boyfriend during high school but hadn’t had any contact since then.

Bailey will ask her good friend, Evie, to help with the investigation into who might have wanted Humble dead. Bailey has written several mystery books and will also call on a private investigator she has used to help get her books right. Bailey also will call upon The Hive, a group of Granny Bee’s sisters and friends. It quickly becomes apparent that there is no shortage of people who want to see Humble out of the picture.

Take The Honey And Run is a great start to this series. The characters are believable and well-developed. I enjoyed The Hive; they provided the right amount of humor. Daisy was a wonderful character; she was considerate to her elders and was eager to help her mother investigate. There is also an adorable Golden Retriever who will be the hero. The story is well-written, plotted, and descriptively told. There were enough twists and turns that I kept guessing until the end, when the murderer was revealed. The book moves at a nice pace.

There are delicious-sounding recipes included in the book.

I’m looking forward to the next book to see Bailey and Sawyer will become a couple once again.

When Granny Bee breaks her foot, Bailey heads home to take care of her grandmother, who runs a Bee farm and makes all things Bee related. When Bailey stumbles upon a body and one of Granny’s products was the murder weapon, making Granny the main suspect, Well let’s just say that being a mystery author doesn’t make one a real life sleuth…until it does!

With Bailey and the Bee Hive on the case, someone is getting nervous and Bailey refuses to cave into their threats to stop digging. Bailey will do anything to clear Granny Bee’s name…no matter the cost.

First off, I love Bees, so this one was a MUST READ the moment I saw it. I’m so glad it caught my eye, because it’s now on my MUST read cozy series list! The Hive and Qheen B…great plays on pop culture and the mystery is solid with a wonderful cast of characters and a very likeable protagonist. Can’t wait for more int his series!

Freaking adorable! Bailey’s aunt is a beekeeper and honey entrepreneur, everything is bee or honey themed. A murder has been committed, as a mystery writer Bailey feels the pull to solve the case and clear her aunt’s name. You’ve gotta love small towns for the gossip but teens can’t escape the scrutiny. Bailey and Sawyer, both back in town, had quite the history as teens and everyone knew their shenanigans. Every character has a purpose and tons of unique personalities that just add to the cute factor of this book. I like to guess the whodunit but it was difficult to nail the specific perp as there were many options, it was quite entertaining. Although Marts’ other books offer something for the romantic lovers this was a lovely change focusing on the mystery, but a slight hint that the coals still burn between Bailey and Sawyer. I got to enjoy an early copy and wrote this review voluntarily.

I really enjoyed this new cozy mystery. There's close family dynamics and three generations. The characters are great. You'll find yourself chuckling as you read along.

Thank you, NetGalley for my review copy for exchange for an honest review.

Bailey is a mystery writer who has not gone home for several years. However, her grandmother needs her help. She and her 12 year old daughter go back to her grandmother’s farm in Colorado. Bailey is enjoying seeing her family and friends again. However, all too soon, Bailey’s granny is the prime suspect of the murder of a local politican. Why? Because her speciality honey seems to be the means to the murder!

Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for a free Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review. Growing up I had a close relative who was an entomologist. His speciality was bees. So when I saw this cozy mystery plus the brilliant title, I could not resist downloading this title.

I loved the fact that the main character was slightly older than in most cozies. It looks like she might rekindle her relationship with an old flame but there is also a possibility of starting a new one with an old friend. I hope that the possible love triangle does not last long since there is nothing that I personally can’t stand in a book. I whole-heartedly endorse this book. I gave it 5 stars. I am going to buy a copy for some of my relatives!

Hilarity ensues in this cozy mystery/romance. This book had me laughing and shaking my head at the many silly things the characters did and do.

A book about family, second chances, catching murderers, making things right, and of course, honey.

A truly heartwarming story, where you actually feel more sorry for the murderer than you do the murdered. I cannot wait to read the second one.

Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and to Jennie Marts for the ability to read and review this book. All opinions are my own and completely honest.

Oh. My. Gosh. I loved this book! Thank goodness for the time change tonight because I stayed up until the book was finished. I knew by chapter 2 that this was gonna be a good one. Bailey and her daughter Daisy are visiting where Bailey grew up. Lots of emotions in old friends and family. Add in a murder and some blackmail and you have yourself a mystery. Plus, everything takes place in Colorado and I am a sucker for Colorado cozies. I definitely recommend all cozy lovers try this one!!
