The Belles have done it again! eight fun, entertaining & delightful novellas, each with strong characters & a well paced story. Ideal for whiling away a couple of hours, I loved all eight My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I have read all of the novellas in this entertaining anthology of romance by a number of my favorite authors. From Sherry Ewing's "Mistletoe Kiss" to Cerise DeLand's "The Beau of Christmas Past" and all the books in between, the stories are clean, sweet, romantic and all close on a positive and joyful note. The common theme is the Christmas holiday period, and a number of them are second-chance romances. Although the stories are short and can be read during a lunch hour, they are full of content and well-written. I received a copy of this anthology as a gift through BookSprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a very enjoyable collection of Regency-set novella-length romances with a Christmas theme. My favorites are "Zara's Locket", by Jude Knight, particularly for its multicultural slant; and "The Beau of Christmas Past", by Cerise Deland, which has spicy chemistry between the MC's even though the sex is closed door. I also found "Room at the Inn" by Caroline Warfield to be an emotionally satisfying read involving the hidden baby trope.
All of the novellas in this collection could be considered "sweet and clean" with no sexual acts beyond kissing depicted on-page.
I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review. My opinions are my own. Thanks to the authors, publisher, and Book Sprout for this opportunity.

A set of eight Christmas themed stories. Most of them are sweet, romantic, and a good sample of historical short stories. I particularly enjoyed A Mistletoe Kiss by Sherry Ewing and Room at the Inn by Caroline Warfield because they were different but still very touching. Overall a good time for everyone that enjoy romantic novels. It was only short of a 5-star review because of a somewhat lack of originality in some of the stories.
The Bluestocking Belles is a group of clever and insightful authors who never disappoint. This collection exemplifies their creativity and talent. Each of the eight stories has wonderul characters, heartfelt emotion and is set in the holiday season. Some will make you cry, and some will have you laughing out loud, but all will entertain you and leave you just a little off than you were before you opened this book. I highly recommend this collection, and if you have not already done so, I invite you to discover and follow the Bluestocking Belles.
A Mistletoe Kiss - Sherry Ewing Sophie and Spencer This is a lovely story about two people who had spent years longing for each other. Spencer patiently waited and watched as Sophie grew from a young lady into a marriageable young woman. He was thrilled to discover that Sophie felt the same way about him, and that she too had been watching and dreaming of them being together. The unexpected hero in this story is Joseph, who loved Sophie enough to put her happiness above his own. This is a very sweet and uplifting story.
The Magic Christmas Stew - Susana Ellis Emily and Daniel A soldier returning from war; an heiress hiding in plain sight; an overzealous sister-in-law; and a dastardly cousin all come together to create this charming feel-good tale. Daniel’s desire to help his fellow veterans is almost as strong as his new found love for Emily, who is smart, generous and kinds, and the perfect partner for him.
Flowers for His Lady - Alina K. Field Eleanor and Bramwell An enchanting evening; separated by duty; kept apart by lies; an unexpected reunion and aid from an unexpected source combine to create this wonderful little ditty about the resilience of love.
An Angel’s Promise - Rue Allyn Artis Such a sad story about loss, perseverance, and the power of unconditional love. My heart was thundering in my chest and tears were in my eyes as I read this powerful but heartbreaking tale.
Room at the Inn - Caroline Warfield Maera and Declan Maera was the niece of a county vicar and absolutely enthralled by a baby named Samuel who was being fostered by a local family. Declan, brother of the baron residing in that town visited Samuel regularly and paid for his upkeep, leading all to belief him to be the baby’s father. He met Maera on one of these visits and they quickly bonded over their love of Samuel. When those caring for the baby were threatened by the vicious baronness, Declan came to the rescue. It was hard for me not to fall a little bii in love with Declan. He’s such a standup guy….warm, playful, considerate and loving. Maera and he are a perfect fit. Irene, on the other hand, is judgmental, controlling, egocentric and self-righteous, and has more airs than a mere baroness has a right to. My only disappointment is that we don’t get to see her get her just desserts. But, I supposed the fact that the author doesn’t focus much attention on her can be viewed as her comeuppance. This story has humorous and sweet moments, an undercurrent of conflict and a very lovely ending.
Zara’s Locket - Jude Knight Zara and Simon I love it when childhood crushes end up together. Zara was working as a governess for Lord Strickland’s family when her room was trashed, her jewelry stolen and her clothes ripped. Suspecting that it was Gerard, the Lord’s eldest son, in retaliation for her refusing his advances, she decided it was no longer safe for her there and left. While walking to town a storm rolled in, she was robbed and falsely accused of theft and arrested. Meanwhile, Gerard was at a jewelry store in another town trying to sell what he had stolen. Simon, the store owner, recognized one of the pieces, managed to get the real story out of Gerard and immediately set off to offer Zara his assistance. Eventually he ended up incarcerated in the same place as Zara. They reconnected and spent a lovely Christmas with their ‘prison’ hosts. Things got really interesting when Lord Strickland, the magistrate and Zara’s godfather, the Duke of Winshire, all showed up. This story is one surprise after another, with the Barkers being the heroes and the Stricklands being the villians who found out what happens when you mess with someone the Duke of Winshire cares about. This author always creates such wonderful stories, and she sprinkles them with delightful little tidbits that add emotion and depth. It is a good thing this is a quick read, because once you start it, you won’t want to put it down.
Three Ships - Elizabeth Ellen Carter Laura and Michael So much fun! A storm, a lighthouse keeper, his daughter, a yummy lieutenant, and a bunch of brigands….it doesn’t get much better than this. After the storm passes, Laura and her father spotted a man washed ashore. Unfortunately, after they rescued him, brigands showed up demanding that he be surrendered to them. Ha, they certainly underestimated the father-daughter-lieutenant trio. What follows is a wild and creative battle including explosions, farm animals and townsfolk. Lieutenant Michael Renten is sigh-worthy with a capital S, and Laura and her father know it. I loved it! This is such a delicious story and I can’t help but chuckle every time I think about it!
The Beau of Christmas Past - Cerise DeLand Alyssa and Gabriel And the third time is the charm. Four years after they were both exiled in disgrace, Alyssa and Gabriel meet at their friend’s home to celebrate Christmas. Both are still in love with each other, but she feels unworthy and he harbors so much guilt. But love prevails and this adorable pair end up together. This is a sweet story. They each had been wronged by their families, but their true friends, Dora and Barr, stood by them rooting for them to finally be together. This story is an ‘if it was meant to be, it will be’ kind of story with charming characters and a lovely ending.

These are not short stories. These are outlines of what might have been decent stories, although I doubt it. I buy these, because Caroline Warfield is one of my favorite authors, but even her story is choppy, without a plot, and has an ending which implies she only had to write so many words, and when that obligation was achieved, she ended it. This is the worst Bluestocking Belles Collection I have read. I don’t think I’ve ever read an anthology before where all the stories were bad, this is a first time and I hope the last.
This is a fun Christmas multi author collection. The stories are non related but each one is quite unique. These stories are just a few chapter each so are a quick read. Most of the stories are very clean with one or two having a few suggestive parts.
A Mistletoe Kiss: Sherry Ewing Sophie Templeton has only been interested in one man since she was young. Her only wish for Christmas is a mistletoe kiss him. Spencer, Earl of Wilmott wants Sophie to be his wife but he has had to wait since she was too young to marry the last time he was around. As he has come to visit at Christmas will the time be right for them before someone else captures her attention?
The Magic Christmas Stew: Susana Ellis Captain, Daniel Winthrop has retired from the military and must find a way to support his future. His sister-in-law wants him to find a wealthy wife. His attention is captured by the new governess who seems to be hiding a secret.
Governess Emily Bainbridge is in hiding from the unwanted attentions of her cousin. She is really a wealthy heiress who can receive her inheritance on her birthday. She had no plans to marry until she met Daniel and now wonders how he will react when she reveals her secret.
Flowers for His Lady: Alina K Field Eleanor Gurnwood had fallen from grace hears before and the man she had loved had deserted her. Now that her brother the vicar has decided to move to a larger church, he wants her to go with him. She wants to stay and continue to help the families in the small village where she has lived. When the man she loved in the past comes to the village she has to decide if she can trust him with her heart again. Major Sir Bramwell Huxley regrets the hurts of the past with Eleanor and has to find a way to prove his love for her.
An Angel’s Promise: Rue Allyn This was my least favorite story as it was confusing. Artis MacKai is trying to keep a promise to rescue a stolen mare and it's foal. A terrible winter blizzard almost kills her. The spirits of her murdered parents step in to help.
Room at the Inn: Caroline Warfield Maere Willis and The Honorable Declan Alworth will have to make a serious decision when a hardhearted baroness wants a fatherless baby out of the village. Maera is the vicar's niece and loves the little boy. The rumors that Declan is the father are proved to be untrue as she gets to know him. He also loves the little boy and wants to take care of him but he will need dome help.
Zara’s Locket: Jude Knight A stolen locket and a lost position on Christmas Eve will lead Zara MacLaren to find love. The goldsmith who made the locket recognizes it when the thief tries to sell it to him. He sets off to find the girl he made the locket for years before. When both of them end up arrested having to stay housebound until the magistrate returns after Christmas- they get to renew their friendship leading to more.
Three Ships: Elizabeth Ellen Carter Laura Winter helps her father at the lighthouse on their small island. When a violent storm hits the area, a body washes ashore. They first think he is a pirate but find out he is Lieutenant Michael Renten who had been undercover on a smuggling ship. When they discovered his identity they bound him and threw him overboard during the storm. When the pirates land on the island, they will all have to fight to defend themselves from the hoards of men.
The Beau of Christmas Past: Cerise DeLand Such a fun story as this couple were caught kissing on Christmas. It got them both sent away from their homes and Alyssa's fiance broke their betrothal. Years later they will be given a second chance at love when Declan returns from his exile a wealth man.

A fun collection of tales to dip in & out of! An absorbing array of Christmas themed stories, to be enjoyed as intended as a statisfying combined collection of bite sized lunchtime treats and well formed novellas, to add a spot of levity and sprinkle a touch of romance and heartmelting warmth to your day.
A Mistletoe Kiss: Sherry Ewing. Sees two who have remained secretly infatuated and joined in their admiration, finally get the chance, they have been so longingly craving for, to confess their feelings in this sweetly touching romance. The Magic Christmas Stew: Susana Ellis. A resourceful warhero gets more that he wished for in his brother's mysterious governess. In this statisfying, love at first sight, romance that has sparks flying and attraction secretly thrumming, in the shadow of the danger and secrets that threaten to unravel its hopeful promise. Flowers for His Lady: Alina K Field. Linked to another series by the comfort of familiar characters. We finally see the put upon but resilient Eleanor Gurnwood reunite with the enticing temptation of her past, Major Sir Bramwell Huxley. But can past machinations be revealed and the sting of heartache be forgiven so unforgettable love and passion can be rekindled? I enjoyed finding out in this, well put together tale with engagingly affective and evocative characters. An Angel's Promise: Rue Allyn, holds great promise for wonderful reads and captivating journeys yet to be imagined. Through the memorably moving encounter of children, Artis and Fionnlagh who fearlessly risk everything to save a foal and keep a promise. The later half of the anthology gives you a greater degree of time to indulge in more novella length treats....Caroline Warfield's Room at the Inn was one such captivating read which really pulled me in with its depth of feeling, character and humour. Interwoven within a heartwarming tale, this love at first clash romance centres around the love felt for an abandoned baby. Who brings together two strangers as sparks ignite and sizzle between the fiery compassionate Maera and the delightfully charismatic and caring Declan in the face of manipulative jealousy and scorn. Jude Knight: Zara's Locket reunites two childhood friends as an atrocious act breeds desperate cruelty and a mad dash rescue sees joy and happiness unexpectedly bloom from the consequence. In this well put together, collison of festive, tender romance meets perilous suspense in all its fabulously reminiscent Dickensian glory. Three ships: Elizabeth Ellen Carter blends a touch of romance with thrilling comic adventure as charismatic Laura, with the help of her injured father, rescues the alluring Naval lieutenant Renten, only to be put in jeopardy by the smugglers that cast him adrift. With amusing and fun filled consequences, this rich in detail tale draws you vividly into island life and will have you chuckling at the imagined hijinks. Before, ending this collection on a high with...The Beau of Christmas Past: Cerise Deland. Third times the charm for Gabe and Alyssia in this endearingly witty, uplifting, second chance, romance. Two, with a habit of deliciously succumbing to temptation at Christmas, find the magnetic pull too hard to resist, as a love budding since youth, but so cruelly torn apart by scandal and circumstance four years ago, is finally rewarded with the happily ever after it deserves. Infused with colourfully deep characters, longing desire and the warmth of good friends and family to entertain and keep you reading.
Concluding this sweetly affecting collection of tales, that will fit any mood, and leave you with a smile on your face and a glow in your heart! A fun collection I enjoyed dipping in and out of immensely.
I've read a fair number of anthologies by the women who write the Bluestocking Belles collections. In general, I enjoy them. I greatly love historical romance, and as a group, they do a good job. However, I found myself less enthralled with this collection. As seems to be a thing these days, most anthologies contain short stories or brief novellas rather than longer novellas and actual novels. Sometimes, I just feel like I want to sink my teeth into a deeper story with intricate nuance and detail, but that's a rare find these days, as authors are encouraged to pump out a story/book every month. Some stories in this collection are really short, with some only having three or five chapters. If I remember correctly, the longest is only nine chapters. By the way, the cover didn't quite do it for me. The stories are mostly setting the Regency Era, and the hero on the cover does not say "Regency" to me in any way, shape, or form. His hair is all wrong for Regency. He looks more like someone who should be the hero of a medieval Italian romance.
The first story in this collection did not capture my attention at all, so I checked out about half of it before moving on to the next story. That one had a bit more to it and the wonderful concept of a “magic Christmas stew” (not really magical, per se, as in fantasy), an idea that people would donate to their community according to their abilities and circumstances, making the town richer and better for those with less. If that doesn't have Christmas written all over it, I don't know what does. I also found the second story—a second chance at love—quite charming, with the hero literally riding in to save the day in a way deeply meaningful to the heroine (and adding to the holiday cheer for the community) and further rescuing her from her dastardly brother, who only cares about her so far as how she can help him further his career in the church. The stories are mostly Regency, but one takes place in medieval Scotland. That one, despite the book being called Belles and Beaux, isn't a romance. It's a sweet, touching, and sad story about children losing their parents. Not romance, little holiday cheer. It's fine, but the collection’s title makes you think all the stories will be romances.
If you're looking for a holiday historical collection that's a little different and don't mind relatively short and uninvolved stories, you may enjoy this book.

I received a free copy of this collection, but that did not affect my review.
When the Bluestocking Belles get together and write a collection of stories, you always know you are in for hours of enjoyable reading and delightful entertainment!
All she wants for Christmas is a special kiss by the man she loves, in Sherry Ewing's A Mistletoe Kiss. But will he ever give her his heart? In Susana Ellis's The Magic Christmas Stew, a retired Captain needs a wealthy bride, but she is just a governess. Or is she? Will she spend her life as her brother's helper or is it possible to find love? In Alina Field's Flowers for His Lady, her future is about to change as a handsome Major rides into her life! The strong power of love, courage and the strength to persevere brings An Angel's Promise by Rue Allyn to a strong conclusion that will bring much emotion. When a baby needs saving, Caroline Warfield's Room at the Inn, brings two people together to hopefully make a home with love together to find him a family. A locket that was stolen, finds it way back to the rightful owner in Jude Knight's Zara's Locket. But is also brings two people together who find a journey of the heart! A man ends up washing ashore in Elizabeth Ellen Carter's Three Ships. Is he friend or foe? A lighthouse keeper and his daughter end up having to take care of him and find more than they thought! Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you in a very good way in Cerise Deland's The Beaux of Christmas Past. Two who were pulled apart years ago due to a kiss, get a second chance and a very happy ending!!
I received a copy from Booksprout; this is my honest review. Average 4.75.
#1 A Mistletoe Kiss: Sherry Ewing ***** Clean, sweet, endearing. Age gap (from those times). #2 The Magic Christmas Stew: Susana Ellis ***** Hidden heiress. A bit predictable but sweet to get to the end. The Magic Stew project is a great idea. #3 Flowers for His Lady: Alina K Field ***** An abandon spinster with a bad brother. Lovely story. #4 An Angel's Promise: Rue Allyn **** Not a true romance but a beautiful story nonetheless with animals and spirits. #5 Room at the Inn ***** Fun. Sad. Great ending with a lot of assumptions in between. #6 Zara's Locket: Jude Knight ***** Childhood friends story. Good laughs - the father is a complete hoot. Believable up until the payment of sins. Peerage didn't pay for them in those times. #7 Three Ships: Elizabeth Ellen Carter ***** Fun times with pirates. I almost had a heart attack while reading the legend. #8 The Beau of Christmas Past: Cerise DeLand **** Second chance romance. Story told twice in two following paragraphs. More explicit (his coat covered the evidence). The nickname "Al" bothered me a lot. I was hoping the balance of Alyssa's dowry would be found somehow; such a let-down.
An enjoyable set of eight stories, each unique and with a Christmas Miracle. Read these wonderful holiday treats in front of the fire with a nice cup of chocolate.
Zara’s Locket by Jude Knight When a rather nervous young man tries to sell Simon a pocket full of jewelry, he recognizes a locket he made, one that belongs to Zara. Simon searches for Zara, learns that she has been dismissed from her post, and is attempting to get home. Eventually the two find themselves arrested and held by two wonderfully unique jailers. They get to know each other again, and realize that there may be more than friendship between them. Another Christmas Miracle? Enjoyable, and a bit funny. A Mistletoe Kiss by Sherry Ewing Spencer has been taken with Sophie since he first saw her. At that time, she was too young to marry. Three years later they are together at Christmas. Is the attraction still there, for either or both? Will Sophie get what she has wished for since they met – a mistletoe kiss? Lovely story. I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout and am voluntarily reviewing it.
I absolutely enjoyed this wonderful set of stories. A Mistletoe Kiss: This sweet short story will pull you into Sophie’s life, you will only want the best for her. I’m so glad she was able to follow her heart. Spencer wanted only one thing, hopefully he didn’t wait too long. The characters will reach into your heart and not let you go, till they get what they want. Zara’s Locket: Such an amazing story, there are so many intricacies which will keep you turning the pages to something new. I loved how much personal strength Zara has, she is an inspiration. I loved how Simon knew what was right and didn’t hesitate to use embellishments, to get his point across. I enjoyed this story so very much.

The stories in this anthology are all short enough to finish one a day, or binge read all within one or two days. Four stars (I really liked it) to Susana Ellis, Alina K. Field, Caroline Warfield, Jude Knight, Elizabeth Ellen Carter and Cerise DeLand for their well-crafted stories, which were smoothly written, well-paced and very enjoyable reads. In Jude Knight's story, the hero Simon - to save his childhood friend - tosses about Zara's connection to a duke in a very amusing manner. My rating does not include the remaining contributions; I did not enjoy them and was glad of their brevity. I read an ARC; the thoughts expressed are my own.
Belles & Beaux is another delightful anthology consisting of 8 stories leading to HEA's. They consist of various scenarios that either introduce the H and h to each other or reunite them after years apart. Young love grows up. People make small contributions for the betterment of forgotten heroes. Flowers are the perfect gift. A promise is kept with a bit of otherworldly help. An orphan is welcomed with an open heart. A treasured locket leads to a rescue. Lighthouse keepers endure pirates. Forbidden love is found again. Want to know more? Then pick up a copy and discover for yourself.
4.5 stars This is a delightful Holiday read. The stories in this anthology are as different as the authors who wrote them – so there is something for everyone. The two things that they all have in common, is a happy ending and that Christmas plays a role someway, somehow in the story. The main characters are all fun and relatable and many of the side characters add so much to the story. All of the stories are novellas or shorter, so quick reads. They will give you the warm holiday feel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Short, sweet, and very good stories. This is a splendid group of short stories by some lovely writers. Each one was a joy to read and most were just right size for a quick reading break. I read a few while waiting for my Christmas cookies to bake and the others late in the evening before I went to bed. I loved the first story Mistletoe Kiss and Flowers for His Lady was charming too. In fact I loved all the stories and I am happy to recommend this collection. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Perfect for either a cold or hot Christmas 🎄 This collection of stories worth more than 5 stars! Recommended!!
Review for Susana Ellis's story, "The Magic Christmas Stew." Original, gentle Cinderella fairy tale retelling between a wealthy young woman, hiding out as a governess, and a penniless, fortune-hunting second son, newly returned from the war. The affection that grows between them is sweet and tender, and enhanced by the secondary story line, the soldier's goal to get locals to feed returning soldiers who are suffering. The story celebrates all the positive aspects of the Christmas holiday: family, charity, and hope. A smooth and elegant style of writing make this an enjoyable read.
This novel had a lot of good moments, a lot of sweet moments; BUT it also had lot of just okay moments that really didn't bring the same warm smile to my face as the other moments had. However, even though there were times when it would lull and I would begin to ponder about choosing another novel, something would grab my attention again- just enough to reel me back in to stick by the side of this author. In the end, though, I'm glad I finished reading this novel.
This is an eclectic mix of short holiday themed stories that hit just the right spot for entertaining quick reads. I particularly enjoyed the second chance romances in this collection but all of the tales kept my interest. I do wish that some of the tales had been longer because the characters deserved a longer read. All in all, this is a good anthology to capture the imagination, especially during the Christmas season.
Each book in this collection had its own unique, beautiful tale! Between the interesting characters, romantic moments, and holiday adventure filled fun, I loved each story throughout this collection. Due to their short story style, readers can either binge read the entire collection in one sitting or spread it out and read each novella as an advent style up till the holidays. I look forward to reading more from each of these authors.
As you might expect, this is a collection of love stories. But I was impressed by how different they were and how many were about people who were NOT members of the aristocracy - very refreshing. My absolute favorite was Cerise DeLand's "The Beau of Christmas Past". I've always wondered what happened to all those "ruined" girls - at least this one found a happy ending.

I really enjoyed reading each of these stories. The stories set around the Christmas season. The collection was by different authors but each of the stories fit well together. The heroines were spunky and yet seemed to meet the match they needed. I was given a copy of this book to review. I would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy romance, anthologies and want to be swept back in time.

A little disappointing as it's not up to the standard of others written by this group of authors. Eight short stories themed around Christmas. One so short it took only a few minutes to read and was obviously a 'filler'. Others had more detail, although too short for a decent plot or characters to develop, but were an enjoyable escape for a while. But Hope this is a blip as I've enjoyed other box sets from this team.
Here is a small collection of short stories with heroes and heroines who find love as strangers, rediscover love when they are forced apart for a period of time, form a bond during a traumatic and dangerous situation, and/or find a common thread that binds them together.

This is a delightful collection of holiday Regency romances. All are engaging and well-written, and there's something for every taste. A good choice when you need a quick break during the busy holiday season. It's also a good way to get a taste of authors you haven't read before.
Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
An enjoyable set of short Regency romances perfect for reading in a lunch break. Although written by different authors the stories work well together. Feisty and capable heroines meet their matches. Thoroughly enjoyable boxset.

Belles & Beaux is a collection of 8 short stories by some great authors.. Great for binge reading. The characters are wonderful and the holiday setting is perfect. I had 3 favorites but you the reader will have to come up with your own favorites, I have received this as an ARC but my review is strictly my own and I recommend.
