I am the daughter of the Pirate King, and a failed experiment. I've spent my entire life trying to win his favor and the respect of his men. But Pirate Lord ‘Cutthroat’ Craw doesn't need me. He doesn't even need his crew. Not after he acquired the weapon; something so terrifying that our enemies flee at the mere mention of it.
I didn't get to see it until I was eighteen. And when I did, the course of my life shifted irrevocably. The weapon wasn't a cannon or sword. It was a creature. A man.
And I would raze our entire island to set him free.
Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Lost Child is book six in the Rise of the Drakens series. WARNING: This book contains adult situations and conflicts, including dub con and depictions of violence.
I loved the characters, the drama, and how righteousness always rules over evil. I'm glad that the pirates were wiped clean, the dragon in captivity found his mate and their escape was worthwhile. I'm glad the sea witches and blood witches came to their aide. The question still remains however, will they find their other dragons that still exist.
3 stars This book by itself was good but unfortunately for me I thought it was going to tie back to the original story. Nope just another standalone in the middle of a series
4⭐️ - been loving hearing about the other drakens, such a good story and love seeing them come together.
Nerissa is the adopted daughter of the pirate king. Having grown up around pirates and eventually training well enough to lead her own raids, her father finally shows her his greatest weapon. Canavar, a caged draken, has been used by the pirate king and kept in a cage.
Feeling sorry for the creature Nerissa sneaks back to his cage to feed him and treat his wounds. When her father finds out, he shuts her in with the beast.
After several days she is (surprisingly) still alive, and sent on another raid. The pirate king sends Canavar out to retrieve her when she sends out a distress signal. Having both been injured, they are rescued by a sea witch, and brought to a blood witch coven.
While there, Nerissa learns more about her heritage and what she is able to do. When the blood bond between her father and Canavar is pulled tight, they return to the pirate king. Enraged at their prolonged absence, her father plans to sell her off as a bride, only to have that thwarted with the royal navy descends on the island.
Hurt in the commotion, Canavar takes Nerissa back to the blood witches to hopefully help his mate. He is forced to search for other drakens when it is made clear that he cannot help until they are properly mated.
So good. Curious about the next one, can’t wait to see how these all tie in. Highly recommend!
I have read six of the series and will soon purchase the seventh. The author is not sure when the series will be finished. All I can say is that I will read all of them. It is a great series. The first four books are a series style, with the last two being independent stories with both being related to and kind of intertwined with the first four. The books are well written and thought out.
After the first few chapters I was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. I finished The Lost Child in about a day. This is not a “sunshine and rainbows” story, it is pretty dark but not so dark it leaves you feeling icky. The two main characters are compelling and easy to root for while also being complex and flawed.
I enjoyed how this book tied into the lost princess. Having more backstory about the blood witches was exciting as well. There were many typos but didn’t distract too much from the story unless a character was misnamed. Overall a good addition to the series.
*got a little weird with them smashing in the same room ngl, but maybe not as weird for them since they are more primal as a race 😅

This boom introduces another new couple. They are each so broken when they meet. They fight together to overcome those against them. Their draw to each other is so sweet.
Nerissa and Canavar’s story is probably the most heart wrenching one to date. I was so happy to see Kaida and Nasi make an appearance in this story. Again, these standalone books are pulling in bits and pieces from the first 4 books and I love it!!!
We continue in the same world as we delve into a new part of it with new characters, mostly. At times depressing, at times hopeful. This book is action packed.
