Each and every one of us possesses a living soul, as well as a physical body. The soul is the spiritual aspect of our human nature that will persist alive, even after our last heartbeat. But far too few of us give the soul any thought or attention whatsoever. What happens to the soul at the moment of death? The friends of Socrates, for instance, worried that the soul might simply blow away in the wind after death and dissipate forever. What does the Bible say about the soul? In this short book, Dr. Matthew Everhard attempts to give the reader a concise exposition of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In these brief pages, he explains that our souls were made to serve and adore our creator, our Heavenly Father. But with the advent of sin into the world at the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), mankind was plunged into ruin and loss. The soul of man is now in jeopardy. Yet because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Savior, we can have our sins forgiven and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Not only can the soul be saved, but the body too will one day be resurrected to eternal life. Much of our mission in this life, then, is to preach the good news of the gospel so that the souls of many other sinners can be reclaimed by the grace of God through faith in His Son.
Souls by Matthew Everhard would make a great gift for a student heading off to college or for anyone interested in taking a deeper look at historic Christianity. At every turn, the author compares human thought (throughout history) to the truths found in Scripture. He opens by sharing four views of creation: materialism, pantheism, deism, and biblical creationism. Then, after establishing biblical creation as the only satisfactory answer as to how we got here, he systematically lays out God's purpose in creating soul-bearing man.

Helpful overview of the gospel and the Christian faith
This book is a very helpful introduction to understanding what the Scriptures teach regarding God, mankind, sin, Jesus Christ, and salvation. I think this book is best suited for someone who is unfamiliar with the Christian faith or perhaps unfamiliar with the gospel. In that sense, it could be a great tool to give to someone you are seeking to evangelize. However, as one who has been a believer, by God’s grace, for several years now, I was blessed by this book as well. The gospel never grows old, and it is always good to familiarize oneself with scriptural teachings on soteriology.
I follow Pastor Matt on his YouTube channel and have found it immensely informative, helpful, and entertaining. His channel is where I heard about this book.
Pastor Matt has written a fine book. He presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ in such an easy and understandable way. You can tell that he desires to glorify God, loves Jesus, and wants to help people understand and receive the gospel.
I recommend this book to anyone who is already a believer and follower of Christ. I highly recommend it to anyone who may have questions about the gospel and how and why Jesus is the only way to salvation.
Good review of the Gospel from a Reformed perspective. The main topics or areas covered are:
1. Creation and purpose of life. 2. The Fall. 3. Salvation or The Christ Event. 4. Regeneration. Inability and grace of the Holy Spirit. 5. The Great Commission. 6. Hope-Victory prophesied. 7. New Heaven and New Earth.
The author makes very good analogies to explain things. For example, the Myth of Andromeda to cover Propitiation.
Dr. Everhard does a great job of infusing the tenets of his confessional faith into a concise, introductory discourse on the Christian faith, specifically, salvation. He also does a fine job of analogizing the importance of evangelism and provides the reader a snapshot of the rich heritage of historic Christianity. Dr. Everhard admits that he did not reinvent the wheel in this work, nevertheless, he does faithfully present the gospel and interested readers will appreciate his effort.
Great read inspiring and interesting. It would be good for all believers to read. If we were to be honest and truly concerned about our fellow human beings, we would be all about the great commission.
This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more. His style is like his YouTube channel, loving and easy going and biblical. Watch out for the last chapter. If you don’t feel convicted then rethink your salvation.
An excellent well written book that is very thought provoking. I found a couple of podcasts by Matthew Ever hard and found his explanations logical and practical. Glad I found.this book. A very grateful reader!
This is a fantastic, concise read that offers a detailed description of the gospel. It concludes with a heartfelt plea to spread the message of the Gospel.
The Gospel is clearly and precisely presented. Everhard writes in a way that is easily understood at a lay level, and the book is helpfully short enough to not be a hurdle for reluctant readers. Excellent all around.
