I enjoyed this book pretty good. The first one was a funny nod to the Beatles song. For some reason, my favorite one was the one that literally the only thing they said for most of the story was "I am Groot." I loved the one kid that said to the other kid, "Did you understand any of that?" and the other kid was like "Nope." And then of course there was that one kid at the end that was like "Awesome story!" and you have no idea if he's being sarcastic or if he's being genuine. Also gotta love the random appearance by our favorite Merc with a Mouth in the "I am Groot" comic. I had already read the Loveness one actually just like this week lol so it was pretty fresh, but it was still good the second time around. I will eventually be buying that one.
I love these Marvel Verse books. It perfectly shows the reader who/what these characters are like/what they stand for. This does JUST that what Rocket and Groot. Especially LOVED reading Rockets first appearance.
A collection of Rocket & Groot adventures. Since these are all individual stories, I'll rate them all separately.
"Hulk #271" *** In Hulk's 20th anniversary adventure, he is kidnapped and Rocket along with his friend Wal Russ come across the big green guy knocked out and must save him from the clutches of the evil mole, Judson Jakes on a planet it is impossible to escape from. I'm glad Marvel has moved beyond the glaring colors and cheesy lines that were common in this era. It was interesting to meet Rocket's pre-Groot companion Wal Russ. Notes on content: No language issues, one scantily clad documentary maker, some battles but no serious injuries.
"Free Comic Book Day 2014: Rocket Raccoon" **** Rocket, Groot, and Wal Russ are rescuing a princess from a Lord Dynne and his rabbit minions led by Blackjack O'Hare. But the princess may not really need their help. A fun adventure that helps segue from the past to the present. Notes on content: No language issues, no sexual content, some battles but no serious injuries.
"Rocket Raccoon #5" ***** Rocket has finished telling a group of young ones around a campfire an epic tale, and now Groot wants his turn. And so he proceeds to tell his own epic adventure about a treasure hunt he and Rocket went on. The readers get the aid of pictures with his "I am Groot"s but almost all of his listeners are totally lost...except for one. This was quite funny, and I love how the artists used context, facial expressions, and punctuation to convey all the emotions even with only "I am Groot"s for the text. Notes on content: No language issues, no sexual content, some battle scenes and perilous situations but no serious injuries.
"Groot #6" **** Rocket and Groot are headed to Earth for a vacation and have a checklist of things to do. Rocket's are all fun things, but Groot has something a little more serious on his list. This was very sweet at the end, and quite funny up until then. (Groot is finding someone he hasn't seen in a long time.) Notes on content: No language issues. no sexual content, some battle scenes but no one seriously hurt. There's a party scene with implied alcohol consumption.
"Rocket and Groot #4" ***** Rocket is upset at Tony trying to rewrite the rules in their role playing game night. Tony agrees to follow the rules next time if Rocket can win one of his Fantasy Football nights. Rocket thinks this is the typical online game...but he and Groot arrive on another planet to find a whole host of fantasy creatures ready for a very real and very serious game of football. So, so funny. This fits both Tony Stark's and Rocket's personalities so well. And it is hilarious. Notes on content: No language issues (swearing is replaces with grawlixes), no sexual content, this is a vicious and brutal game of football but there don't appear to be any fatalities or extreme bloodshed or anything.
"A Year of Marvels: the Unbeatable" **** Tippy Toe and Rocket team up in the park when a villain animates all of the trees so they can take over the world. The solution to this one is clever (as well as why the trees are so grumpy). There are snapshots of Doreen studying every once in a while, but for the most part, this is all Rocket and Tippy Toe. Notes on content: No issues (there's some fighting trees, but they eventually talk them into a peaceful solution).
After reading and watching Ant-Man and The Wasp and Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, I got Marvel high and wanted to read more of the Marvel-verse. Ok, so Marvel-Verse is about collected stories about each hero, heroes and even villains. Favorite group of Marvel characters, right here!
