Okay, I'm staying calm, calm and collect- WHAT the actual FUCK was with that cliffhanger??!! 👁️👄👁️

Holy mother of chaos, what a ride! I need to go stare at the wall and process, my head literally hurts because of the plotting plot that plots in this series, there's constantly so much happening! This is why I can't binge this, but also thank god I'm taking notes, I would be lost otherwise 😅

If you're in the mood for MM urban fantasy that's heavy on plot and lovable characters (Parker is shaping up to be one of my favorite fantasy characters), that's action-packed, engaging, and chaotic in the best way possible, give it a try! There is a romance BUT it's not at the forefront. Nick and Parker get together early in the series and they don't really have the explosive kind of chemistry, rather a comfortable one. As if these two are such a certain endgame you can't imagine them not being together ❤️

...although that ending has me eyeing the next (and the last!) book HARD, because again... what the fuck 👁️👄👁️

Oh nooooooo! That ending... is amazing and horrifying at the same time. I knew it!!! What a cliffhanger, Kai Butler. I need a moment to process.
_____________

Okay. With the changes within the court, old gods running amok, and Parker and Nick's marriage plans, there's just so many chess pieces moving this time. Surprisingly, even with the simultaneous and interconnected events, this was less chaotic than some of the previous books. Less chaotic in such a way that it was easier to follow their adventure while the mysteries were unraveling.

There's so many political movements among the courts and I can't predict what that would mean for Parker as Windrose and Prince Sylvan of the Summer Court. But all those were set aside with a bigger threat looming over everyone. I like that Prince Talon has reentered the picture, though, especially since they weren't present in court proceedings at the beginning. Also, can I just say, I would love to squeeze Thistle's neck if I get the chance. That fae is so annoying! 😭😂

A lot of lies have also been exposed in this installment and Parker discovered who his real allies are and who will stand with him in his mission to save the human realm. It's sad to see how hurt Zahide was but I bet she'll come around after some time. Parker doesn't have a lot of friends and allies and he'll need them now more than ever.

The best part of this book was the couple's spur-of-the-moment fae ceremony. It was full of happiness, nerves, and excitement. I think that has beaten any of their planned weddings whatsoever. The way they bonded and mixed their magic was sweet, romantic, and dreamy. Also, Parker has become so used to domestic bliss lately and now that they're settling and expanding their home, it was so cute to witness. I love it. ❤️❤️❤️

I give this 4 solid stars. The battle seemed like it was made to look epic but it was a tiny bit shorter than my expectation. However, that ending? There was a tiny foreshadowing which seemed negligible at first and it didn't resurface until that cliffhanger and my goodness! Whatever shall happen next?! 👏

Oh god. What was that ending?

Kai Butler has done it again: "Saffron Wilds" is freaking fantastic. Action-packed and mysterious, with a complex, heart-stopping and wild plot and even more complex and ridiculously endearing cast of characters.

Parker and Nick's latest adventure was absolutely gripping and I seriously can't wait to see where the next book will lead them: I'm both terrified and beyond excited. Because oh god, that ending? "Saffron Wilds" is that installment in a series where everything has suddenly become much more high-stakes, every single events and discovery is of the "oh shit" quality and the build-up to the finale here was just *chef's kiss* ridiculously good. The villains have become much scarier and bolder and the heroes have to make difficult, life-changing choice: this novel is the tipping point of this series, and I cannot wait to see what will happen next.

On the other hand, I think this sixth installment is probably my least favourite of them all, because I missed the mystery/police procedural aspect of this series; and because so much of it is connected to the Old Gods and the other Realms, I missed the fae aspect as well. That was a shame because in the background of the main events of the book lots of things happen with the Courts, and I kept wishing the plot would bring us back there.. But oh well.

I still loved it! Parker and Nick's relationship is the sweetest thing ever: I loved them so much here. And Parker of course is my absolute favourite.
I'd also happily lay down my life for both Laurel and Sugar: those two are iconic. Talon also has become a favourite of mine, so I was so happy to see him have a more important role in this one!

I can't wait for the next book. That ending was CRUEL, and I'm still reeling from everything that has happened. How am I supposed to wait now eh?

I'm sad the next one it will be the last, but hopefully Kai Butler has some other, equally fabulous stories planned.

Action packed goodness, a wedding ceremony that made me cry, and a whole lot of found family greatness.

Huge props to this author on writing fantastic women characters - I keep forgetting to add that in my review.

I can’t wait for the final book!

Familiars are going missing...but why? And what is all this hub bub about a dark circus? And why are there bodies drained of magic? Parkers in the middle of it as usual with this one. More old gods crawl out of the woodwork. It's fast paced and the mystery is good. There's only one book left in the series and I'm quite sad about that as this was sooo good.

OMG .... I am a big fan of this series. Nevertheless, sometimes it rakes me done time to start a new book .. . And after finishing this one, I am really glad I waited till the seventh book came out because this ending was cruel
(And I might quote you here, Iz)

Yes, I expected something like that in the last quarter, but the way it was revealed was cruel.
Especially listening to it made it much more real ...
I discovered my love for audiobooks in the last year and Greg Tremblay shows me every time why.

I love how the story arc developed during this series. From simple human and fae matters to these complex worlds
I love the secondary characters ... even Tate starts to grow on me, and Talon is just perfect.

But the best are Parker and Nick. These two are on the list of my five favourite couples, and I love how their relationship, their feelings, and trust developed over the course of the books.

And now I have to start the next ... and unfortunate last book in this series

3.5 ⭐ rounded up

i loved that they finally FINALLY got married, and they have a real house, and Lilacina is no longer queen
i also hope the whole "nick became Darkness's heir" means he'll live longer, matching with Parker

i mean, all in all i enjoyed it, it kept me reading wanting to know what happens, but at the same time it kinda feels unpolished? like, the world building (yes, i'm very obsessed with it, i like my stories to have cohesive lore) is a bit all over the place at this point

hopefully the last book will tie all the loose ends and make everything have a little bit more sense

Okay, things got a little bonkers here. I think the case of the week episodic feel interspersed with fae shenangians is where this series really shone, and the plot moved really far away from that here.

That cliffhanger was also wild!!!

This is such a fantastic urban fantasy series, that in my opinion, does not get enough attention. Saffron Wilds is the sixth book in the San Amaro Investigations series featuring Parker Ferro, a man who wears many hats… private investigator, consultant for the local police department, and The Windrose to the fae. Parker and his lover, now fiancee, Detective Nick King have always ended up right in the middle of every paranormal clash in the city and now it all seems to be coming to a head.

So much has happened throughout this series, so I’m not going to even attempt to bring everyone up to speed, but suffice it to say if you thought the old gods were gone after the events of the previous book, you are sadly mistaken. As with every book in the series, what starts out as a small case for Parker soon leads to a bigger investigation. In this case, a missing familiar turns into dead bodies and a traveling circus that only appears at midnight. The way this author manages to create so many plot threads and then expertly weave them all together by the end never fails to amaze me.

The entire cast of characters is back and they all play important roles in what turns out to be a battle between the old gods for control of the thousand realms. Parker and Nick are once again smack dab in the middle and they will need their newfound soul and spiritual connection to make it through. The next book in this series, which the author has said is the last, is sure to be a rollercoaster ride of exhilaration as Parker, Nick, and their allies will have to use everything in their arsenal to defeat what is coming. Not only is the Sun god back, but they seem to have allied with a certain former queen of the fae.

It’s hard to do this review justice because the series’ plot arc is just so intricate, but one thing I can tell you is that you won’t be disappointed. Everything from the worldbuilding to the characters, to the plotting, is so well done. Parker and Nick’s relationship has come full circle and I am excited to see them make promises and commitments to each other. Hopefully, readers will finally get that wedding with doves and fireworks soon. Their found family has gotten larger, and they are all so integral to the storyline. I don’t think there is anyone who I don’t enjoy seeing on page.

All in all, this is a fabulous addition to the series and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment. I can’t recommend this series enough. This is good stuff.

Parker & Nick are my heart!

Mind. Blown. Red alert. This is not a drill. So. Freaking. Amazing. I need the next book immediately, but wow, what a fantastic, wild adventure this was. This journey we’ve been on (and one more book to go which has me feeling my feels) has taken us through so many loops and twists. I thought for sure it would mellow some but nope. It’s full throttle from the beginning and doesn’t let up. I can’t even with all that happened but I will say I laughed, I squeed, I gasped, I sighed, and I fell ever more in love with this series. I want to immerse myself in all things Nick, Parker and San Amaro.

“What if this leads to another werewolf kidnapping?”
“In my defense,” I said, “it’s been months since I was kidnapped by werewolves. I’m beginning to think they don’t even like me anymore.” “Trust me, your milkshake brings all the wolves to the yard,” Nick muttered.

Ah, Parker, I adore you, and I adore the way trouble sticks to you like industrial adhesive. I never know what I’m up against when you’re involved but I know I’ll be captivated, thrilled, charmed, and all while I’m on the edge of my seat wondering what’s next. I love it, love it, love it! Brilliant plotting, incredible writing, entrancing world-building, and unforgettable characters that feel like family. It’s no wonder Parker is a PI as he has me Perfectly Invested in his happiness, his love, and every single part of his life.

Oooh, big cliffhanger, nice! This book finally gave me a bit of a side romance and I loved the Owen subplot. Parker and Nick finally got fae married and that was a v soft scene, we got more fae court politics and old gods wars. I really liked learning more about the gods and Darkness and I am excited about the final book of the series! I am kind of amazed at how dense these books are, they’re so packed with action and magic and lore that I have to admit sometimes I am a little confused, but it’s fine the vibes are there. I still do feel like the books are skipping over some stuff sometimes and expecting the reader to know and understand things that were mentioned for one paragraph three books ago.

Parker and Nick forever! I just love this couple so much. They're so great together and I'm always rooting for them and the friends they have around them. This time around though things are getting harder and harder to keep secret. More and more deaths keep turning up and Parker of course finds himself right in the middle of it all once again. Of course nothing is ever simple and the old gods make it even more complicated.

This story is pretty much on go through the whole thing. I loved seeing Parker and Nick take a step forward in their relationship even as everything else is tumbling head over heels around them. Love the new house btw! They are bound and determined to be there for each other, but also no matter what, you know help save the world along the way. Even when they're in a battle they know they can't win, with forces much stronger than their own.

Darkness has their day in this one. And I'm both elated and reluctant to read the last book in the series. I want to read it right now! But also, I hate that then things will be done. I love this world and all these characters.

so gorgeously complex and yet so delicate constructed that the story never feels dense, a must have

Rating: 5🌈

Well , Saffron Wilds is one wild, heart-stoppingly complicated, beautifully crafted, absolutely slam dunk of a tale! Especially , especially (yes 2 especially’s) that ending! One part of me want to say, screw you, Kai Butler. The other wants to give major finger snaps for shock value.

It’s a close call. And I read this twice.

I believe this is the series penultimate book. Not sure because with everything that’s happening here, all the revelations, all the characters involved, all the players and places that are mentioned and visited, we are talking a very grand and labyrinthine scale here.

And it’s starts so simply with a case of a missing familiar and the emotional wobbling about an engagement.

And from that seemingly easy launch Butler builds a intricate narrative that is so gorgeously complex and yet so delicate constructed that the story never feels dense. Much like the lacy constructs of the larger orb spiders, those webs can appear light , big designs. Yet on closer inspection, it’s full of smaller strands, different webbing, almost invisible to the eye. Darkness and light. And lethal.

Such an incredible interplay. What a fabulous piece of storytelling. I’ll definitely reread it again to see what I missed.

And to pass the time until Cypress Ashes is released.

I’m highly recommending the series and definitely this story. But the books must be read in the order they are written in order for the relationships, characters, and events to make sense.

Saffron Wilds was such a rollercoaster ride! I can't believe that this is the second to the last book in the series. It feels like I just started this not so long ago. I am not ready for it to end.

The author was able to wonderfully weave various puzzling cases and unusual events and in the end tie them all up into an overarching arc with a satisfying ending for the immediate plot but still leaving such a cliffhanger of an ending making one want to read the next book.

There were some reveals in this installment that took me by surprise and some things that are really interesting that I want to know more about. The very intense moments and really fast paced action segments were balanced out nicely by a good number of soft and romantic moments between Parker and Nick.

Parker and Nick's relationship had really grown stronger and more mature and it was quite visible here and I loved that! They really complement each other. Though the other characters did make on appearance here - this book was pretty much more focused on Parker and Nick and the plot that involves the Old Gods.

If you haven't read this series, I recommend giving it a try especially if you're looking for a good urban fantasy series.

This would be 5 stars for me.

Very happy with the penultimate installment in the series. What starts as a case for Parker involving a missing familiar leads to series of human deaths and a mysterious Night Carnival with unknown origins. The plot opens up to epic proportions that culminates in a war between the Old Gods, with Sun trying to destroy all others and command all realms. The last book in the series is gonna be intense. Not sure how I feel about the twist at the end. Let’s see where that leads, because it could be a great thing or a terrible thing. Looking forward to the final installment when it comes out this summer.

Ok for real now. This book, what the actual FUCK.
Nick and Parker at their highest. Sugar, my baby girl was just SERVING. Talon, my prince….. I need a whole book about his life fr. there was just so much plot twist in this one that my mind is blown. The way that Butler created differents storylines and the but they all together in to something that I never saw it coming……… she’s just became my top 3 best fantasy writers.

Saffron Wilds is the sixth book in the San Amaro Investigation series. Parker is back searching for a lost cat, which finds him in more trouble which he is good at finding! Missing werewolves, dead bodies and war. He and Nick are also planning their wedding. Full of action and only that nonstop banter and snark that is Parker!! Overall, a well written addicting read! Fantastic!!

Whew. Okay. I am at the end of the currently published series, and I am not okay. I’m just lucky I started late enough that I could read this many at once and only have to wait a few months for the last book, but whew.

Okay so. Even though I’m a bit shooketh by that ending, my thoughts. They’re here somewhere! I’ll try to keep this vague or at least not spoil anything crazy.

The plot actually moved pretty slow for me in this one. The first 70% or so, anyway. That’s kind of the pattern with these books, but it felt a little worse this time with the lack of action. The night circus felt almost like an afterthought for much of the earlier parts of the book. I thought it was kind of obvious wary on who was behind it, though I certainly didn’t guess the purpose.

I did, however, love the parts with the fae. Thistle… whew, boy. When I tell you I screamed a little to hear Parker acknowledge his actual name etc… I know it doesn’t mean shit now, but like. Still. And… were we basically told that Nick doesn’t know his true name???? I always thought it was odd that we don’t always see Parker fill Nick in on everything that happens when he’s separated from Nick, and this was one of those things we never saw discussed. I wonder if it’ll come up in the future? I mean I want it to, but then again, a lot of those big emotional conflict points seem to end up being dropped 🫤 that’s a sticking point for me, actually. I really want these damn boys to talk about their feelings!! There are so many moments where I just think, “yes. Expand on that. Please tell me how that makes you feel. Tell your partner how it makes you feel. Communicate!” But then everyone moves on and it’s barely ever brought up again.

But like. If I’m being honest, storylines about the fae > storylines about the gods. This is my issue with a lot of book series, though. Not just this one. It’s a natural progression. The Big Bad always has to escalate, and in doing so, we get further away from fallible enemies. I like the enemies that remind you just how evil humanity itself could be, if one makes all the bad choices, you know? Even if they’re not strictly human, but you know what I mean. I think that’s why Hammond made a good bad guy… because it’s so believable that we could have a real-word bad guy like him (or, heh, maybe we already do). What’s scary about them, even in a land full of fantasy and nightmare creatures, is how real they could be. But all-powerful gods? They get further from that reality, become less interesting, more exhausting. It’s always the battle for The End of the World. It’s always do or die. Every time Parker & Nick get out alive, it seems a little bit too clean. I just want the gods to die already. I miss the fae and the investigator husbands.

That’s not to say I didn’t love this book. I’m so glad we finally got more Prince Talon! I was ready to demand a spin-off series if we never got around to developing his story more. Also loved the return of magic depletion, because that’s… I mean, they’re using a buttload of magic, and I like that they don’t just have bottomless wells of power. But. Can we talk about how Parker was so dehydrated, and then a few chapters later he was finding a water bottle in his satchel to fight with? The explanation was that he bought it somewhere and refilled it at home, but he hadn’t been home between the Dark Realm & the big battle, right? Anyway that’s not the point. Talon. More of him, yes. Magic depletion to give characters weaknesses. Again, no being, however magical, should be invincible and all-powerful. So it’s a good weakness to come back to.

Oh man though, the heartbreak I felt for Parker at the end, with his friends. I just wanted to hug him. This better not be dropped as a point of conflict in the next book or I’ll scream. I want Parker to really evaluate how all of this makes him feel, after avoiding it for so long. Have some tough conversations.

The shock ending, then. I knew what happened pretty much the moment it did, but I still gasped at the very end. I mean, fuck. That better be fixed next book or I’ll cry buckets 😅 beat it, hitchhiker.
