P.J. is faced with the loss of her simple, carefree, peripatetic lifestyle crashing on the couches of friends as she saves her money to create a music demo, when a reporter threatens to infiltrate and then take over her life. Original. 60,000 first printing.
Cathy Yardley is an award-winning author of romance, chick lit, and urban fantasy, who has sold over 1.2 million copies of books for publishers like St. Martin's, Avon, and Harlequin. She writes fun, geeky, and diverse characters who believe that underdogs can make good and that sometimes being a little wrong is just right.
This book gives you much more than you would expect from it. It starts off simple then slowly but surely introduces harsh topics like anorexia, suicide, and a midlife crisis. Yardley does this in a way that isn't confusing or unnecessary.
It's heartfelt and puts you in the shoes of each of the three characters. You even end up feeling a little bit of sympathy for the cruel Samantha. But PJ is, by far, an amazing character.
This book is definitely for a person with a passion for music, raves, and club culture. Club kids all over the world would be proud of the real life references. Yardley must of put a lot of effort into researching her characters lives and settings. (Or maybe she's a reformed raver herself....?)
This book impressed me a lot and I related, even though I'm not a big druggy/clubs girl. I'm trying to stray away from Young Adult, and I was happy when I found this outside of that section of the library. It's a good "post-college and idfk what I'm doing with my life" kind of book. I thik that should be it's own section.
Ho letto solo 12 pagine e me ne sono comunque pentita.
this book is so bad, it’s good?! it’s a 20 chapter book and only about 3-5 chapters are worth reading. literally the only reason i continued reading was to find out what happens with pj. all the other chapters are so irrelevant and it’s such a slow pace book. i did love how it talks about running away from your problems, mental health issues, and eating disorders as everyone in their teens/ life time has probably gone through at least one of the them.
I’ve been trying to find another book by this author (Role Playing) for what feels like forever. It was recommended on a podcast I listen to. I haven’t been able to find that, but I was able to borrow this. I appreciated the plunge into the world of clubs and DJs, and found this a very interesting read. PJ’s skittishness is not terribly clear and Jonathan seems to have « at first-itis », but I liked the way the different characters evolved.
This was okay. Not the best I've read recently but not horrible either. The characters aren't THAT well-developed so you really don't get incredibly involved in their lives and don't really care so much how it all works out. The end wraps things up a little too quickly. So overall, just okay.
I found the way this author dealt with mental health issues from a "you just need to grow up" mindset to be offensive. Wish I could rewrite the ending, so disappointing
Having dated a DJ in what feels like my past life, this book brought back a whole lot of memories of living in "that world." I don't know if I would have related to and liked this book as much as I did without having been involved in it before. Regardless, it was still a great story of losing yourself, losing it all, and then finding what is truly at the heart of it. And that - we can all relate to.
Light glimpse into a world about which I know nothing. DJ PJ is a little ridiculous & self-righteous, but is called to task for it. In fact, each of the women has flaws to correct before synching with their designated white knight.
A great book! Loved the main character, PJ...her new way of life to escape past troubles and how the supporting characters played vital parts in moving the story forward. An unusual plot but thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.
I was totally intrigued by the way the three stories were intermingling, which is something I have always loved, but I was expecting something different in the ending. It was good, but because I saw the story going a different direction, I had a hard time really enjoying the ending.
Couldn't connect to the characters and the heroine came across as very strange as a transient couch-hopping bum, spending each night on a stranger's couch.
