If an author creates a character in a romance novel, who is a playboy, I expect to see some follow through on it. Here we have a hero who has had sex with a lot of the women in his pack, including his personal secretary and yet there's only a couple lines where the heroine vaguely wonders about it. Not worries... wonders. There's absolutely no comeuppance for having sex with his employee.

And (unlike the title of the story), there's no regret. None whatsoever.

I don't want him slut shamed, but there are real consequences to behavior. If your new boyfriend had a track record like that, wouldn't you wonder?

The book instead focuses on the heroines inability to intuitively know he is her true mate. She (unlike him) has very clear reasons for her self denial. Her character is a bit more fleshed out that his, but still not much.
The characters were all pretty flat and uninteresting.

The Alpha's Regret is the fourth book in the Shifters of Grey Ridge series and features Nathan and Maya. Nathan, the playboy, finally gets a taste of his own medicine when his mate Maya walks into his space. He immediately recognizes her but Maya can't smell so she doesn't feel the bond. Nathan is determined to prove to her that they're meant to be.

"If my little wolf doesn’t know she is mine, I’ll show her. Our future life together is worth putting in the effort, and I’ll keep showing her until she believes me."

Nathan and his wolf can barely stand that they are unable to mark their mate but Maya is falling for Nathan faster than she lets on. Especially with as dominant and all encompassing his love and obsession can be.

“No more small talk unless you want me to kill someone. If I can smell your arousal, so can they. And that is mine alone to taste, and mine to breathe. Not theirs.”

With Maya not being officially mated, danger lurks and Nathan will have to give it is all to protect his mate and make her his.

“One thing, though, make no mistake Maya, the second you come with my cock buried deep inside your tight little cunt, and you will, you’re mine. There will be no going back.”

Maya was timid and submissive but also strong when she needed to be. I loved her for Nathan. Overall, a fun and sexy story!

Guess I’m the only one who didn’t like this book. I was excited for Nathan’s story. I thought Maya would be a strong female lead since she’s Dean Reynolds sister but man was I disappointed. Aside from Leila, she’s the only other wolf mate of the Joneses supposedly from a badass pack with a dark reputation and the yet weakest of all the female leads so far 😩. What didn’t sell me in her character:

1. She can’t scent Nathan’s her fated mate due to trauma, yet somehow falls into his bed the night she meets him. The same day she witnessed another she-wolf leaving his bed that morning.
2. For someone with her traumatizing childhood, she doesn’t believe in fated mates. Yet she accepts Nathan without making him grovel and prove he’s changed his man whore ways.
3. She’s supposed to be this badass alpha from a pack that trains like assassins yet was so weak she couldn’t even take the villain down because she’s in heat. Even Leila had more will power than her when she was in heat too.
4. She gave me whiplash with her constantly changing stance. One minute she doesn’t want to pursue her feelings for Nathan, the next she’s panting after him and letting him do whatever he wants with her.

Seriously. I started skimming the last 150 pages. Maya gives out stubborn teenager vibes who lacks common sense and self preservation. She only does things that piss off other people like her brother or Nathan.

“I still plan on making you mine. Make no mistake. I’ll just have to prove to you we’re perfect together, without the bond.”

Who would have known that notorious playboy Nathan would turn out to be such a sweetheart? He might be my favorite of the brothers or any male shifters that Reece Barden has written. I have loved that they have all needed to work for their fated mates' hearts, but Nathan’s struggle was particularly tough, as he needed to convince his mate of a bond when all signs were pointing to her being just another conquest (there is so very mild OW drama, not on his end, that impedes his quest to a HEA).

What I loved most about Nathan’s story was how often he mentally berated himself for his prior actions. He was forced to reexamine his behaviors and discover ways to prove to his mate that his affections were genuine and that she wasn’t just another notch on his bedpost. It wasn’t an issue of having a sexual past; it was how he cycled through women without caring about how a future fated mate might feel or how it would affect their bond.

Mya is a great FMC. I love that she makes him work for it, that she cannot immediately sense their bond because of trauma and needs him to convince her it’s not some trick. Fated mates are a guilty pleasure, but I get some sick satisfaction when they don’t immediately fall into each other’s arms but must go through some shit first. Almost like they are thumbing their noses at destiny and saying, “Prove it.”

Slower burn than some of the other books in the series; it is still steamy. There is the steady simmering of intense unrequited attraction underlying all of their interactions before the final culmination.

Book four in a series of interconnected standalones, we have cameos of all our favorite couples.
The twisted web of who has it out for the Jones pack is slowly unraveling. In book four, closest friends are being unmasked as traitors, and we are one step closer to everyone's HEA. I cannot wait to see what the next book, Ethan’s story, has in store.

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Tropes/Features: Wolf shifters, fated mates, playboy MMC, hesitant FMC with traumatic past, heat, claiming bites, suspense, stalker
Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF, slow/med burn, steamy
Book Type/Ending: Standalone in interconnected series. HEA for couple

Hm, well it was okay. I didn't feel much connection with either MC tbh. I wanted to and I felt for Maya's past, but ultimately I felt there just wasn't enough effort put into unraveling who these people were, ya know?

I did find it funny the playboy didn't get an easy ride once he recognized his mate. Although it's not like he actually had to work for it...🤨

I felt the pacing was super off with this one. The purpose of going away together in secret was to allow them one on one time together, especially Maya. Nathan had to convince Maya that with or without a bond he wanted her and they were perfect for one another. However, there was essentially none of said getting to know one another nor any real convincing. It was all attraction, lust, and foreplay. I didn't enjoy that because I wanted Nathan to actually do what he said and prove to her he wanted her. Sorry, but orgasms isn't the be all end all of determining who your lifelong mate should be especially with a past and trauma like what Maya was dealing with.

So, that put a huge damper on the story for me because it was pretty much the whole book once they arrived to their little beach vacay.

I also found the traitor storyline predictable, and way too obvious. Especially with how they reacted to Nathan and Maya.

The end was cute though with how obsessed Nathan was over his nephew.

After reading the first three books in this series I had high hopes for Nathan’s books, I thought it was gonna be full of angst and groveling.

It was my least favorite so far not that it wasn’t good but it did not match my expectations, although I liked how it was easy and quick to read, I enjoyed how Nathan was protective and possessive of Maya it was so good to read, and I loved Maya’s strength so much.

a true regret.... I dont like when the MMC is a playboy and especially when he wants to find his soulmate.
At least he had stopped his womanizer ways a while before he met the FMC but still everyone commented on his ways...
I didnt enjoy this one

Since the MMC's playboy ways had been mentioned several times before this book, and that he would regret them if he ever met his fated mate, you would expect it to have some impact on the story.

It didn't.

Would have liked the FMC to be a bit stronger given her background.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:
This is Book 4 in the Shifters of Grey Ridge Series. Each book follows a different set of characters and can be read as a stand alone but to get the most of the story it is suggested to read the books in order.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
Nathan Jones is the youngest of the Jones' siblings and the only one to have not found his fated mate yet. His family has warned him that his playboy ways are going to come back to bite him in the ass... but when he catches the eye of his fated mate...as another woman is leaving his apartment, he fears they may be right... but he's determined to prove to Maya, she will always and only ever be the one for him.

Maya Reynolds comes from an isolated pack life where her history is fairly traumatic. Visiting the Jones' Pack is suppose to let her have new experiences... but Nathan claiming to be her mate wasn't anywhere close to what she was expecting. Now throw in the fact that the threat to the Jones' pack is still very active, mainly trying to use the women as collateral... Maya's safety is in danger. As they try to eliminate the threat to the pack, can Nathan keep Maya safe, while also showing her that his mate claim is true and forever?

Oh my sweet flirty Nathan, who knew you had it in you big man! We get to see behind the "playboy" persona he has. I liked how even though Maya wasn't exactly thrilled with Nathan's past errmm.. conquest, she wasn't overly bitter about it, even putting one jealous ex in her place. I loved how feisty Maya was, especially with Nathan, but still had her shy moments. This was fairly low angst even though our couple wasn't rushing anything either. We all knew how possessive Nathan would be... but I really enjoyed Maya finding her possessive streak. I will say, knowing what we know about her pack, I really wanted to see her kick someone's ass. 😆

The twist is this book had me freaking the fuck out. I swear this was the most intense I remember feeling with any of these books so far... and the has been plenty of super tense moments. I'm pretty sure my house could have been on fire and I wouldn't have noticed, that's how gripped I was to this. Reece never fails to pull me right back into the Grey Ridge world and makes me feel like I'm right there within the pack. I love still getting pieces of our past couples and where they are in their lives. We get a little bit of all the Jones family in this book. We are still left with a few open ends to the overall plot the flows through the whole series and I'm ready for more answers to come.

Gah, I miss Ethan too, so I'm excited to finally get his book next! That sneak for The Alphas Quest has me salivating for it! Knowing the tropes Reece has planned for it has all kinds of theories rolling around in my head and I can't wait to see it play out.

“One thing, though, make no mistake Maya, the second you come with my cock buried deep inside your tight little cunt, and you will, you’re mine. There will be no going back.”

“You can do it, Maya. Come again for me. Fuck, I need to hear you screaming my name one more time. Then you can sleep, baby.”

A female doesn’t go into heat until she meets her fated mate, but if he doesn’t mark/claim her the other males turn into literal rapists. But not regular rapists, the kind who can’t help it (unless you’re the guy in the lobby). Not just rapists though, they literally claim the woman as their mate which ties her to him FOREVER… as mates…

This didn’t work for me. What a disgusting couple of chapters. Seriously, this went on for SO LONG. Such a gross feeling I had after reading this.

This heroine was supposed to be a complete badass but it’s just not there. Anywhere. She doesn’t do a single badass thing in this book. She doesn’t even turn into a wolf. she wants a baby but she’s worried about… something, she knows she needs to see a doctor but she can’t even do that. Which I only bring up because the author tries to redeem the MMC by making him “cute with babies” or… ONE of the two babies in the book.

How did I miss Sam and Sean? Where did that come from? Is there a spin off? Secret book? I definitely skimmed a lot, of all four books, but this came out of nowhere to me.

Playboy gets his payback

The MMC Nathan is the youngest of his brothers, they’ve been telling him for years that his playboy ways will come and bite him on his butt when he finally finds his fated mate but he’s always ignored them, until that day came.

The FMC Maya was supposed to be visiting the neighbouring pack to build bridges, not catch the eye of the pack’s playboy. He swears she’s the one but her wolf isn’t screaming her certainty as his is, so who should she trust, a reputation or the behaviour see she’s for herself, especially when people aren’t happy about them being together and one person takes that to the extreme

This book was good, I did guess who the ‘traitor’ was but the scene was heart rate inducing when hormones and instants were controlling the situation and taking away control and choice.

Nathan is the playboy

Nathan is the infamous playboy of the Jones line. The youngest child. Everyone told him he could regret the decision. He joked it off every time. Until he scented her.
Maya is the sister of Dean Reynolds. An Alpha female. Dean is notoriously known for wanting to change the outlook of the pack he possesses. He had to take away the pack from his Alpha father, when he became a hazard to himself and his pack.
Cooper had installed a new exchange program. Some of his pack members would spend time with the Jones's pack in Grey Ridge. And vise versa. Maya is apart of the members who went.
Nathan knew immediately what she was to him, but Maya didn't show she felt the same. He was totally confused. He had a lot of work to do!

Jesus.

Definitely my least favorite book so far. I didn't really connect with either of the characters, the pacing felt off and the plot was just... not for me.

I don't like the whole "having to convince someone to be together" thing. Someone saying no isn't a challenge, and I'm tired of books where that is a thing. It just bugs the shit out of me.

Maya was alright, I guess. Didn't like her, didn't dislike her. I'd like to know more about her backstory, other than that I don't really care for her tbh.

Nathan was... I don't even know. I don't like him. Him being obsessed with his nephew was cute though.

I'll continue the series, or at least the next book. If I don't like it I'll probably move on to something else.

Nathan is so entertaining

This is book five and lots of secrets are revealed. This book focuses on Nathan who accidentally finds his mate in Alpha Dean’s visiting sister Maya. And since you have been reading this series too, like me, you know than Nathan is a playboy. He never thought that he would find his mate, so why not enjoy lots of adult fun. Maya is a beautiful and intelligent young woman, but she, along with her siblings, has experienced abuse at the hands of her evil father, the previous alpha. That detailed secret is revealed when you read this book. There are more important things shared about the overarching storyline in book five. There is a happy ending for our new couple. Read On!

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I opened this on my kindle. But damn, this book kind of took me by surprise? Usually when I read, I can get a good guess on what’s going on or at least some theories?? NOT WITH THIS ONE.
This entire book fucking threw me for a loop and I enjoyed it immensely!
Admittedly, this is probably the least favourite out of the Shifters of Grey Ridge series. Purely because Nathan was never really a character I found myself wondering about; but nevertheless it was still well-written.
I’m giving this 7.5/10 purely because the writing and the inability to predict what the fuck was gonna happen.
As always, excited to binge the next book…but, maybe after a nap?

these books are worse and worse each time.

this one was SO lacking. i was so looking forward to nathan’s story. watching him totally get it for being a little manwhore which is such a big topic of focus for his character, but then there was LITERALLY no consequence. like WHAT???? that’s just poor plot.

maya also was lacking for me. like, she felt so 1 dimensional, there’s wasn’t anything that made me root for her or invested in her as the fmc at all.

this was just so poorly written i can’t even with this book. the others in the series at least made a little sense and were fun, this was just bad.

Another great installation of the grey ridge shifter series. I loved reading Nathan’s story and seeing who he was mates with. Reece’s books continue to be steamy fun reads with great twists and turns. I’m only sad the book ended and I’ll have to wait for Ethan’s story to come out. If you like werewolf books be sure to grab a copy, recommended you start from the beginning of the series for character knowledge and plot follow through.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Flirty and Fun

Nathan’s story wasn’t nearly as drama filled as I had anticipated. I actually really love how Maya dealt with his extensive history with women, especially her own limited encounters.

Her backstory was so heartbreaking, but watching her grow and thrive in Grey Ridge really took the angsty edge off the story.

The plot twist of finding out who was the true traitor within the pack was definitely unexpected prior to Nathan’s story. The reasoning behind it really fit with his history though.

I really like this series. This book, however, was not my favorite based on the others. I still appreciate the storyline. It holds your interest. This book, different than the others, I could put down and didn't "need" to know what happens last. I do love that this series incorporates and mentions events from the other books while not hanging on them for too long. You could read them in order or just one and not feel completely lost. Although, I highly recommend reading them in order to learn about the characters.

"Nothing will happen to Maya. She is everything to me. I would give my life rather than let any harm come to her"

I enjoyed this fourth instalment of the Shifters of Grey Ridge series, the way I enjoyed all the others. It's fun, it keeps me interested and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. One of my issues with the first two is that they didn't have enough actual shifter activity, for being a shifter book. So I'm happy to say that this one did in my opinion. I still don't think we ever see Maya shift into her wolf form, but Nathan does plenty.

good but more spice 🌶️ than plot, it felt like

This is good! Probably my least favorite of the first 5 books, but Nathan is still 🥵 🔥

Not a lot happens - but we do get more development on who betrayed the pack.

The pivotal tension moment was pretty intense but it was luckily resolved fairly easily.

I do feel like this one had a lot more typos but overall it’s still a quality book, tells a great story, and the characters have growth and evolve together

Excited to find out about Ethan and eventually, Dean

Nathan is the playboy, even though his exploits have been exaggerated somewhat. He then meets Maya and things get complicated.
Maya is visiting from her brothers pack and has to contend with the jealous exes.
Nathan is sweet and caring and 100% focused on proving that all he wants is Maya.
Maya doesn’t trust easily and is no pushover.
This is a good book. It is an enjoyable read.
I sat and binge read it in one sitting and couldn’t put it down.
This is a 5* read!

This is the 4th book in the Grey Ridge's world, getting to follow the youngest brother Nathan in his search for his fated mate. He encounters her quite quickly, feeling immediately the weight of his playboy ways between them. Regret for his past actions. He wants her, but she can't feel the bond.

There is an overall plot arc that runs through the series, but it's only discussed briefly in this book, reminding me a bit of the extra novella The Alpha's Catch.

To be honest, I don't buy books, I have KU. I especially don't get caught up in a series that the first one is free and then 8 are $$$. but I did get the first one in this series & got so caught up and I'm glad I did.

Hot Hot Hot. Barden hits it out of the park again. While this story was a bit all over the place in terms of the plot it didn't disappoint. I would have liked to see a little more character development in terms of Maya but she seems perfect for Nathan. I do enjoy how the toned him down a bit and I won't spoil it but I like how they are making him less of a rogue. Can't wait to see what's next for Ethan.

Another entertaining book in the series. Maya's predicament as a twist was interesting and I really wanted to see how the author would navigate it. The other twist of the villain was honestly dumb and boring especially because it was so easily predictable. Also it's been used by the author for another book which makes it especially easy to catch. I was hoping it wouldn't be the case because it is honestly overdone but it is what it is.
