The dangerous life he lives…her initiation into submission.
Tinker belongs to the BDSM dungeon. Pain and fear are part of the high of her submission. She wants more. She wants to be owned. But loyalties are tested when a powerful Dom with dangerous connections decides she’s his.
Mafioso Luca Bruno is doing legitimate business with the owner of High Protocol. He desires more than a scene with the beautiful submissive. But he knows secrets that tie her to the underside of his crime family. Even if he is in bed with the enemy, no one takes what’s his.
**This is Luca's and Tinker's love story. However, there are some unanswered plot points about the Bruno Mafia Family to be revealed in the new, dark mafia series.**
KyAnn Waters’ Initiation Into Submission: High Protocol #6 – Perfectly Played blends dark romance, power dynamics, and criminal intrigue into a story that moves with the intensity of a forbidden connection. The novel focuses on Tinker, a submissive who has long embraced the pain‑and‑fear edge of her BDSM world, yet craves something deeper and more permanent. Her desire to be owned becomes the emotional core of the book, and Waters uses that longing to explore vulnerability, loyalty, and the cost of surrender.
Luca Bruno enters the story with the kind of presence that immediately shifts the balance of power. He’s a man shaped by the shadows of his mafia lineage, trying to maintain a veneer of legitimacy while still entangled in dangerous family secrets. His attraction to Tinker is immediate but complicated, and Waters leans into that tension—Luca wants more than a fleeting encounter, yet claiming her risks igniting conflicts he can’t fully control. Their chemistry is written with a slow, deliberate burn, grounded in trust, dominance, and the emotional stakes of choosing someone who could upend your entire world.
The novel thrives on the interplay between the structured world of High Protocol and the unpredictable danger of the Bruno crime family. Tinker’s loyalty to the dungeon and Luca’s ties to his family create a push‑and‑pull that keeps the story taut. Waters doesn’t shy away from the darker edges of both BDSM and mafia romance, but she keeps the focus on the characters’ emotional journeys rather than shock value. Tinker’s evolution—from a submissive seeking sensation to a woman confronting the risks of being truly claimed—is particularly compelling.
While the romance reaches a satisfying emotional conclusion, Waters intentionally leaves several threads about the Bruno family unresolved. Instead of feeling incomplete, these lingering mysteries set the stage for the upcoming dark‑mafia series, promising deeper dives into the criminal world that shapes Luca’s life. Readers who enjoy interconnected series will likely appreciate how this book acts as both a standalone love story and a bridge to something larger.
Overall, Perfectly Played delivers a blend of sensual tension, emotional depth, and looming danger. It’s a story about surrender—not just in the BDSM sense, but in the willingness to trust someone enough to let them into the most guarded parts of your life. Waters crafts a romance that feels both intimate and expansive, leaving readers eager to follow the Bruno family into whatever darkness comes next.
Tinker is a constant and enigmatic presence through the earlier books in the High Protocol series. She is always at the club. She is a heavy masochist and plays with most Doms. But she has a hard limit of no vaginal penetration with either cocks or fingers. She is a virgin.
The owner and staff of the club fiercely protect her, but she guards her life and her secrets (and even her name).
This is her story.
The author has explored different subgenres in the BDSM Club romance genre in her books in this series. This book hits the "dark mafia romance" subgenre. And hits it quite well.
The Dom who takes her heart is very Italian, very connected, very conflicted. The book turns into quite a page-turner and the action is quite gripping and sometimes quite violent. Also, serious kudos to the author for describing the seriousness of even peripheral gunshot wounds -- many romance authors who put some action/adventure elements in the story go with an amazingly fast, easy, and complete medical recovery.
This is the last book of a series I could not put down and while I’m happy I got to read all these characters stories I’m sad that my time with them has come to an end!
After seeing Tinkers appearance in multiple books in this series I was beyond excited to get to her book. This mafia romance was all I could of asked for and more. I loved seeing the fmc finally get her happy ending and with a man that adores her.
This book has substantially more action/suspense than the rest of the series and I was here for it, i felt like I was on the edge of my seat through out the read, but the spice and romance that was spread out throughout the book helped blend this beauty all together and make perfection.
I would love to read a mafia romance series by this author because I just know she could kill it!
Perfectly Played is not just an Erotic BDSM story; it is also heart-pumping romantic suspense. The dialogue is fabulous, the action is non-stop and the characters are well developed. I was drawn into the Bruno's world and hope we hear more about this family. I recommend this book for readers looking for an adrenaline-rush book-high.
I’ve read this entire series and thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters come to life and their stories are well told. KyAnn does a fantastic job at delving deep into the psyche of the players in this BDSM story. If you’re unsure about why people enjoy pain for the pleasure, this series would be helpful to your understanding.
Perfectly Played is book 6 in the Initiation into Submission: High Protocol series. I suggest reading this series in order. There are many characters that appear here from the previous books in the series and the heroine here, Tinker, definitely made an impression before she got her own story… and what a story it is!
There is a fantastic plot, a lot of secrets and betrayal, tons of spice and a whole lot of danger. Although there is an HEA for now with this couple there is a whole lot more going on here. This book definitely leads into another series spin-off, the Bruno Mafia Crime Series which I cannot wait to start!
I have been thoroughly entertained by the High Protocol series and do recommend some of KyAnn Waters’ other books. Jump into the Heller Raiders you will not be disappointed and will get a visit from some of my favorite characters from High Protocol there too!
