The very first authorized biography of one of the most invigorating, inventive, and independent bands the UK has ever produced.
Written by Enter Shikari expert, Luke Morton, Standing Like Statues tells the Enter Shikari story through a series of comprehensive interviews with all members of the band and the team that surrounds them.
This hardback edition is printed in full color with a huge selection of unseen photographs.
Although this is a biography, this is Enter Shikari in their own words.
While weaving through the band’s history, there are real pearls of insight regarding mental health and growing up that so beautifully relate to how Shikari’s music and outlooks have changed over the years.
I did not have high expectations for a biography about a band. But the story of Enter Shikari is told chronologically with so many details, individual interviews, and anecdotes that the characters grow on you even if you don't know them. The second narrative level, which deals with toxic masculinity and mental health, surprised me. It's encouraging to see the band members breaking free from their "boys being boys" cultural imprint and coming to terms with their emotional experiences.
As someone who has followed the band obsessively since Take to the Skies, I really did wonder how much I’d learn, but each page was filled with little tidbits and anecdotes that amplify the messages in the music, and show the importance of live shows.
i’m very happy this has been written about a still-active (and my favourite) band. even after reading rou’s lyric book this gave more insight into the songs and eras and made them flow together in a way that’s not perhaps easy to see without the band explaining it themselves. very detailed music-wise, fun stories, yet i’d still wanted something more/deeper (not sure what exactly) about the band.
the font is tiny and the layout is so heavy it has to be mentioned. i have a very good vision and i was struggling reading this.
Picked it up, never put it down and got through it in just under 24 hours. As a massive fan of the band since the start, reading about the early days and the continuous rise of the band was amazing. Beautifully written by Luke as well who deserves all the praise for how the biography came out!
I loved this book. Enter Shikari have been my favourite band since I first got shown them 15 years ago, and they have soundtracked every single chapter of my life. Luke tells the story perfectly, and it’s honest, heartfelt and very uplifting. Easily in my top 3 reads ever!
I’m not a huge fan of biographies, but I am a huge fan of Enter Shikari, and this biography is as well-written as it is fascinating and inspirational. The research was clearly done, the band were clearly involved, and it’s a must-read for music fans, period.
Wow. This book was brilliant. As a fan of Shikari, I’d say this is a must read!!! It is an incredibly well-researched and detailed biography including interviews with all band members from all stages of their 15+ year career. The themes covered really resonated with me, especially the sections on mental health. If you're looking for THE book about Enter Shikari, this should be top of your list. Highly recommend!! A must read for any Shikari fan.
An insightful and enjoyable book. Luke Norton demonstrates his knowledge and studies of the band exceptionally with incorporation of the band's own words. Despite this, the layout of the book wasn't for me- longer sections that were split up of snippet interviews. Although I thoroughly enjoyed these snippets, the book didn't seem to flow and combined with the small print this one took longer to read.
