Jenna Gunn's new series about firefighters is off to a cracking start.
What more could go wrong ? his wife had left him to bring up their son on his own, his son is going off the rails, he had a serial arsonist to deal with, the Chief had had a stroke so he had to step up from Captain to Chief, a job that he didn't want and to top it all, the new firefighter who had just walked into the station was the same girl who had ghosted him on a blind date a year ago, the same girl that he dreamt about every night.....Brock Mitchel was incandescent with rage.
Avery Ellis's early life had been miserable, her only protection was her brother, she had become a firefighter and because she was good at solving arsonist cases she was deployed to help a station that had a problem, the same station where the Chief was the same man who had kissed her and sent her into the stratosphere, the same man who thought that she had ghosted him when in fact she was having a panic attack, Avery needed this job, she wanted a place where her brother could join her.
This story is about Avery and Brock working together, fighting against the chemistry and loosing badly, of Avery entering a relationship with a much older man, the father of a teenage son, of Brock knowing that a relationship could wreck both their careers, of Avery's brother coming back into her life and the need to catch an arsonist.
Jenna Gunn has created wonderful characters in this book and written a beautiful story round them.
