A Circle of Circles

I have been zooming through Yasmine Galenorn's Moonshadow Bay Series as fast as I possibly can. I apologize for not reviewing the last 5 books. It is not because they are not worthwhile, I am so addicted I just don't want to stop and do the writing.

So, in all fairness, this review covers the last 6 books. I have been mesmerized by the witchblood and shifter communities of Moonshadow Bay. Galenorn's characters have become my daily companions.

She writes compassionately and with insight on the subject of being different. You can feel the love for the outcasts of the world. Yet, no pity is spared for those who won't help themselves or who deliberately hurt others.

Wrap this all in a world of magic, where the legends of the Fae and Bigfoot are made real. Throw in a group of people who become family by choice, who have each other's backs. And send them through adventure after adventure, well, maybe you can see why I am a Yasmine Galenorn addict. Try one book out for yourself, you might just like it.

Game or n is a fine storyteller

When she gets to the story. In this installment, she has written an entire book around one event. She also drops foreshadowing of possible future stories, while mentioning what might happen in the next book. Part of the book is backstory catchup, part hinting at future and a LOT of description. Potential spoiler: The ramp up of THIS IS A REALLY BAD IDEA but we're doing it anyway because the boss' friend and the boss are obsessed and all danger signs and warnings are ignored in pursuit of a nebulous goal and poor planning result in disastrous consequences though not fatal, at least not yet. The promises January had to make to preserve the group may cost her more dearly than she wants to pay. Galenorn's characters are well drawn and quite likeable. She is knowledgeable and thorough while describing the setting and communicating ambiance. Readers may well wish they could enjoy outdoor cooking with Galenorn who must be a foodie based upon her meal descriptions. In the NOT end, the reader is left hungry because the meat of the story is missing until the next book, maybe.

As a rule, I love this series, but felt this book was not quite as good as the other previous 7 books in it. Nothing much happened for the first 50% of the book and then the rest was mostly fantastic. There were lots of "non-events" that led nowhere in my opinion at the beginning, lots of descriptions and nothing really relating to the main story.

However the main story plot of the Conjure Ink's group hunt for Bigfoot was a great part of this book, although it bugged me that everyone just went along with Tad and Hank even though they quite clearly disagreed with the hunt. January had to make some deals that she never should have made just because of this obsession of theirs and she will be the one who has to pay for them now not Tad or Hank. Not particularly great friends IMO! I loved the idea of what the Bigfoot really was and the myth behind him as well.

But the part that irritated me the most was January's selfishness! Tad was severely injured and desperately needed to go to the hospital following what could have been a badly infectious bite and what did she want - coffee and pastries! So instead of getting him the urgent treatment he needed, she stopped off at the the gas station to fill up first!

Sorry, bit of a rant there, but I have loved January for the most part, but her whines about Edison 8 books on are dragging now and this just topped it all!

I will continue with this series and just hope that this book was a blip in the series.

Wow!

Witch's Web by Yasmine Galenorn, Moonshadow Bay Series Book 8

I love this series, it's the only one that I've read of this Author...but I do want to expand on that because I do love this one

I adore how she brings fascinating legends or urban legends in you will into her books. Book 7 was the Mothman, and living in Ohio, from SW PA... Mothman is a big deal being relatively close to Point Pleasant, WV. This book digs deeper into Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Which is also big in SW PA where I'm from there have been supposed sightings in those mountains too.

Even without those fascinating subjects, the characters in this series are comfortable. I love the personalities and would want to be friends and family with them too!

Really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what January and her crew get up to next!!

Another Fantastic Yarn

As always the exploits of Moonshadow Bay are a wonderful way to escape the hassle of our lives and the constant pressure to do this and that with very little time for ourselves. Unfortunately as is the case nowadays at the very end you are subjected to a couple of chapters of a forthcoming novel. From. My point of view it could be some considerable time before you read that “new” story and when you do you rack your brains thinking where have I read this before. I don’t like it do you?

Witch's Web

Seemed a little on the surface than usual. No really deep dives into any areas of the plot or the characters this time out. But at this point of the series I guess we are all pretty acquainted with the characters and scenarios. I almost felt like this book is just a bridge from the last with its major crisis to the next , perhaps a with more critical storyline, once again. But still a good book from a favorite author and series.

I love the bay

Not gonna lie, this one was a little harder for me to stay in. I had to stop several times. I did finally get to a part where I couldn't put it down. But I still had that time. I do love this world and the characters in it, and this one is still an amazing story. I just don't care for that much if Sasquatch. But read it. It's a fantastic place to go, and I do love January. I'm actually looking forward to the next one.

I need more

There is so much to unpack with this latest installment of January's story. Without giving away spoilers we are about at a tipping point for the character's development and growth. Things are happening, promises made, and payment will be due eventually. The last half of the book went by so quickly I could not put it down.

Nailed it!!!

Witch's Web was from front to back excitement. More excitement than January and Killian need right now. Dome is hanging right over their head with going on this trek to find Bigfoot. The gang definitely gets more than they bargained for. Ms. Galenorn knocks it out of the ball park again. Excellent and fresh new description of Bigfoot.

Unfortunately this book fell so flat it was sad. Compared to all the ones before in the series this plot seemed to focus on one thing and one thing only and that is what most of the team of Conjure Ink do not want to do namely put themselves into great bodily harm. But they do it any way and they pay the price in more ways then one. The story was way too long and way too not interesting.

Edge of your seat

This was an incredible adventure and we got to know Wren a little more as well. This was a big compact adventure with the characters all together in one place for most of it getting to know them all a bit more. I look forward to what is around the corner.

great series

This series has woven the best tapestry of magic, friendship, home and love. It is a rollercoaster you have to ride. My feelings went along for the ride up to the top then plummeting on and on. I so have to read the next one! Highly recommend!

An interesting take on a crazy myth for sure. The series continues to be interesting if not my favorite of Ms. Galenorn's. I'm looking forward to more as the arcs continue to be convoluted with few of them coming to conclusions .

so much!

This one really uncovers so much about some of the secondary characters. It gave me some frights too. In a good way. I’d write more about how marvelous it is, but I really need to go get the next one.

Hidden in plain sight

When friends or family are in trouble our heroine will take any risk to help them. Be it a curse, an alien creature or just a cranky old witch our team seams to find themselves in the thick of things. Good thing our heroine has help when she needs it.
