His dream created a fabulous gambling empire, His passions nearly destroyed it Meade Slaughter, a bold, sensual man, is driven by a powerful dream to built a great casino--an oasis of excitement--where there had been only scrub and cactus, to found a dynasty based on Lady Luck. Nevada: the only state where the sky's the limit, where fortunes are won or lost on the deal of a card, the turn of a wheel, where beautiful women and dangerous men play at more than games of chance.
His spectacular rise from penniless orphan to supreme wealth spans five decades of tragedy and triumph, violence and glittering success--all studded with the celebrities and Mafia dons, show girls and politicians of Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe. But Meade Slaughter can lose everything on the next throw of the dice...as a ruthless enemy plots a terrifying vendetta against Meade's son, the woman he adores and his magnificent empire.
Clint McCullough graduated from a Bible school, and had been a missionary with the Navajo Indians and an itinerant preacher. He later worked as a ranchhand and then became the Secretary Manager of Kern County, California, Farm Bureau. For a time he ran his own advertising agency (which won several art direction awards), designed and built houses, and worked as a rafting guide. Nevada was his first novel.
Once in a lifetime read. Amazingly written with wonderful characters that develop fantastically throughout the book. I've read thousands of books in my life and this one shot right to the top as one of my absolute favorites. I highly recommend.
I spent many years living in Las Vegas, so I found the history of this book interesting. The book centers around Meade Slaughter and his rise along with the state of Nevada, and covers both Reno and Las Vegas.
