Let’s do some cooking!
First discovered his signature "Let's do some cooking" videos via YouTube (I don't use TikTok) and was enthralled by the rhythmic and even hypnotic way of cooking. I had never really seen cooking videos like this before and really enjoyed watching these and found the sounds also very soothing to listen to. I check his channel a few times a month (as he does not update every day, especially with this book out now) and still enjoy his videos.
This is a cookbook that in some ways is a culmination of his journey (he's shared a bit on his channel but I think the cookbook has a little more in depth). It's really great he's found a way to do what he enjoys and it is also a different path from perhaps the really tough world of food service and restaurants, etc.
Some of these dishes are likely familiar to the reader, and I think many are not. I love how Way acknowledges that not everyone is in the same place skill/time/experience/etc. wise and that they can use the recipes as more of a guide if they need to adapt and can also go all out if they happen to have the time or want to try some of these other foods that might need more prep.
Not much else to say about it. I would say it is slightly disappointing that there are not more pictures as it is a cookbook but honestly for the visuals his YouTube or TikTok videos are much better and fun. For those who are unfamiliar, you can't really use his videos as a guide, as they are more about the sensory experience of listening to the various cooking sides and quick visuals that go along with them. I'd urge you to watch one or two to see how fun they are, although I would guess the quick cuts and editing are probably a bit much for some. He does have longer videos that are more in-depth, too.
That's pretty much it. I borrowed it because I enjoy his channel a lot and am so happy he found success. Would I try these recipes? Maybe someday when I am more confident but I was just happy to support him just a bit and look forward to seeing what he does next (and more videos).
Borrowed from the library and that was best for me.
