FIRST IN A NEW SERIES!

Best friends Kai, Sawyer, and Axl worked hard to make Caswallawn Security the booming success that it is. As for love, marriage, and commitment, those are way down on their priority list...

Kai Manning is unhappy that Caswallawn is making Mercy, Virginia, its permanent headquarters—he doesn’t understand this quaint, crazy town, and he doesn’t want to settle down, period. A rough childhood made him fiercely independent, and he’s determined to rely on nothing and no one. So the moment he lays eyes on Flick, he knows he’s in trouble...

Local baker Felicity “Flick” Sturgiss is not looking for a man. She’s done giving her all to relationships that give nothing back. But Kai is undeniably hot. He may look like bad news, but he’s not going to be in town for long, and she’s dealing with a lot right now—she deserves to have some fun.

When a family emergency calls Sawyer away, Kai must remain in Mercy to hold down the fort. Now, Kai and Flick’s plan for a quick fling falls to the wayside (just like their torn-off clothing), leaving them wondering if they can keep their hands—and their hearts—to themselves...

5 Outstanding Stars!

Holy shit this author can write, I adore her M&B/Hqn book/series, but over the longer length shes even better, you get more characters, development and running storylines to sink your teeth into, and I hope to god now she's got the rights back for the first two books she continues the Men of Mercy series on her own because if Mercy Me is anything to go by its going to be an absolutely stellar set of stories.

I loved damaged but dashingly caring Kai, and I loved Flick, put in an impossible position by her family she's battling against the odds on all fronts, and although they both agree to no-strings you can see from the start this is a couple that should go the distance.

Add in an hilarious dog, a wealth of secondary characters many of whom I'd give vital parts of my anatomy to get the author to write their stories. I am not ashamed to say I am into this series for the long haul, I have everything crossed that the author sees past re-releasing book two as well as there is so much untapped potential in the setting and people she has meticulously put together already, it would be such a waste to not delve deeper into it.

ARC generously provided by the author via Booksprout in exchange for the above honest review.

Kai can be so sweet, and wanting to help out Felicity, “you’re wound tighter than a spring and you need to let go. It’s either talking or sex . . . I can either listen or take you to bed.” I loved Kai, you really couldn't help but fall in love with him, "Kai took her hand again and pulled her down the path. “Can we please go home now? I need to take you into my bedroom and not come out for hours . It is, after all, our job to give Mercy something to talk about.” I liked this book, and I'm looking forward to more from this town.

Three friends together own Caswallawn Security. When the decision needs to be made to move the headquarters to Mercy, Virginia, Kai is hesitant to agree. He doesn’t understand settling down into a small town that doesn’t even have a McDonalds!

Kai is a wanderer and when one of his partners is called away to help out his brother, he is left in Mercy and in charge of all the details.

Flick, the local baker is taken by Kai at first sight. The last thing she wants is a man or relationship, but once can’t hurt. Right?

I really loved the start to this new series and am looking forward to watching the other boys fall in love. The story itself was hard to put down as it dragged me into its web. The chemistry between these two characters was spot on, and at times, a tad volatile. But the heat… Watch out and don’t get burned because the sexy times in this book are HOT!! ~ Devlynn, 4.5 stars

Kai may be happy with the success of the security business that he started with his two best friends Sawyer and Axl but having it based in a small town in Virginia wasn’t part of the plan. He was only supposed to be in town for a short while, so he indulged in a steamy encounter with Flick however fate had other ideas when he finds himself staying for a while.

Flick owns the bakery in town and was attracted to Kai from their first meeting, but she also knows that he will be leaving shortly. What she hadn’t expected was for their encounter to not be enough and that’s when the complications really begin!

If Kai’s difficult past and Flick less than ideal previous romantic choices aren’t enough to overcome, then you can throw in the fact that she doesn’t want to leave her hometown, or its eccentric people and Kai never planned on staying.

I’ve read several books by this author and I knew I was in for an entertaining book. I wasn’t disappointed with Kai and Flick’s story. If you enjoy steamy romance with amazing characters set in a small town, do yourself a favor and grab this book. Kai and Flick have amazing chemistry and after spending one afternoon together, they decide that’s it, since he’s leaving Mercy. Turns out he can’t leave due to his business partner, Sawyer, having to leave instead. Can Kai and Flick stay away from each other or will they give in to their attraction. No spoilers, so grab your copy and meet all the residents of Mercy. I just loved this fun. I can’t wait to read Reagan and Axl’s story next.

I think I'm settling on 3 1/2. I was bouncing between 3 1/2 and 4, because I did like the story BUT I also found it very, very easy to put the book down and walk away for long periods of time. :/

Will still be looking at the other books in the series when they're released because the other characters did grab my attention.

Full review to come.

About the Book:

My Thoughts:
I wish there had been more emotional exploration but there was a decent amount of sexploration even if just a tad too much if debate. However you can't really help but want to know how it turns out with who gets chosen and what not.

Kai can be a contradicting character but also likable enough to win you over, Felicity could be a little wish washy though.

I enjoyed the interaction between Kai and Felicity for the most part just not enough to really fall in love with the story.

I would like to say though that I like the way the book is written, I like the authors tone and her voice so I will be checking out more books by Joss in the future.

I had a hard time deciding on three or four stars but because this is a new and first installment to a series I'm waiting for future installments to really grab me.

FULL REVIEW:
https://aishasbookworld.wordpress.com...

I loved how great are Kai and Flick together: they're sexy, funny, alluring and with tons of flair that make them a fantastic couple. Also, their interactions aren't forced so when they had their first night (afternoon actually) together, even though it was pretty soon in the plot, it felt organic. The best of Kai and Flick is the fact that they make the other better, and that's why they work as a couple.

As the first book in the Men of Mercy series, there's A LOT of secondary characters. From Sawyer and Pippa (I want these two to be together!!) to Gina, we can have fantastic moments with all the characters in this book. Even Rufus, Flick's particular dog, has tons of personality in this book! And we can't forget Mercy Online, the town's forum on the web where the lives of the people of Mercy is well displayed by its population (I love the cynicism and sarcastic comments from BoredWife...just her nickname is hilarious!!). That's the second biggest asset of this story: the small town of Mercy—where there are no secrets—that Ms. Wood created is funny, fresh, funny, attractive, funny, witty...did I said funny already? Is full of drama, emotion, and, above all, it has something you can't find easily: it has heart.

Joss Wood isn't an unknown author for me. I've been reading the books she'd written for Harlequin for years, and I loved them. That said, this book takes her wonderful writing to another level. Man, the woman can really write! I don't know if it's because this is a longer story in comparison with her Harlequin books, but it gives her a biggest range of possibilities for her to create. And create she did; a fantastic story full of great characters, a well developed and thought setting and credible situations. Looking forward for the next book of the series. This first one shows how promising this series could be.

This is a refresh and re-release of a book originally released (in 2016) as Inescapable. I read it originally and re-read it recently and enjoyed it very much both times. It is the first book in a series; though I am unsure how many there are in the series – I only remember reading one more.

It is the story of Flick a small-town cook/bakery owner who is surrounded by family and immersed in the highs and lows of the small town of Mercy and of Kai a private security operative, and co-owner of a security company that is weighing up whether to make Mercy its permanent base. With a difficult childhood, military service experience and current work doing tough, high-stakes, peripatetic security work Kai is not looking for either a permanent relationship or to settle in Mercy.

The book creates 2 worlds for us to lean in to: the small town of Mercy with its characters, gossips and rhythm of life and the world of security work (3 more significant characters are introduced from this world, who feature in the later book(s)). These are quite a contrast. Mercy is most vividly drawn. The book also has 2 characters in Flick and Kai who are interesting, likeable and navigate the emotional arcs (learning to trust for both of them, carving a satisfying career path for Flick and learning to settle for Kai) in a realistic manner full of love and passion.

The book successfully combines its different elements, there is cosiness, shocking events, a bit of mystery and crazy characters as lovely add-ons to the emotionally satisfying romance. I very much enjoyed it and enjoyed it on several levels.

That was so much fun. Secrets, scandals, new loves, old loves; there’s a little bit of everything in here. It’s angsty and dramatic, but it kept me laughing the whole way through. Flick is a little bit of a hot mess, but she’s my kind of a hot mess. I could sympathize with her desire to nurture the world and I easily felt the pain that want inflicted on her. Kai’s got battle-tested armor protecting his heart and emotions. It made me sad to learn what he had overcome, yet the man those lessons created is someone pretty special. I got all kinds of enjoyment out of watching these two. They’re perfect together, if only they’d stop trying to fight the chemistry. Their supporting cast tried valiantly to steal the show and now that we’ve gotten to know the residents of Mercy a little bit better, I’m dying to read more about them.

I have read several books by Joss Wood, and she never disappoints. Her characters are awesome, and her plots keep me enthralled and on the edge of my seat. This is the 1st book in the “Men Of Mercy Series”. This is an entertaining read, funny situations, great characters, romantic and steamy. Kai is a super sex hot alpha male, and he is not very fond of small towns, but he finds himself in Mercy Virginia at the permanent headquarters Caswallawn Security. Flick owns the local bakery in Mercy and according to her she is not looking for a man. Kai it totally smitten with Flick. Sawyer Kai’s business partner had to leave Mercy Virginia and Kai finds himself in Mercy Virginia longer than expected. That’s a plus for Kai he gets to spend more time with Flick. Kai and Flick have great chemistry and are perfect for each other.

Will Kai stay in Mercy Virginia, is there an HEA in store for Kai and Flick?

4.2 ⭐️ Good story with HEA

The first words that I think of are: long & lots of fancy words not commonly used. I enjoyed the story. The characters are well thought out and relatable. I like characters who aren’t “perfect.” Flaws are what make people real. It was very descriptive. There were a lot of “fancy” words I’ve never heard before. I am an AVID reader and was a teacher for 9 years. I had to look some of the words up. I don’t really enjoy having to do that. I prefer “regular” words that pretty much everybody knows. I don’t want to feel dumb when reading a romance novel. Other than that, I liked the story & would read more in the series. I loved reading about the relationship developing between Flick & Kai. They were warned to stay away from each other, but the magnetism between them was too strong. I always enjoy a HEA. I look forward to reading Reagan’s story.

The first book i have read by this author and i want to read more.
It was a fun read with lots of emotional elements too.
Loved the small town of Mercy and the website Mercyonline was absolutely hilarious.
The main characters Kai and Flick both have emotional baggage so do not want to get into any relationships. When they meet the attraction is instant and they cannot resist each other.
Kai does not want to settle down in Mercy and Flick does not want anything serious. When they start to spend more time together their fling gets complicated.
Highly reccomend this book if you like humour with heart, emotions, family, steam, and a happily ever after.

I absolutely loved this book as we not only get a town full of fun and at times gossipy people, fantastic characters, secrets, plenty of laughs, some angst, delicious males with a streak of alpha as well as a great romance. Flick and Kai are perfect and the way things change between them was fun to watch along with learn the quirks of the town and a secret Flick has to keep from her best friend. There are some times of sadness both from the past and present that draws you in and falling in love with Mercy and everyone there. I can wait for the next book to see who's up next as there are a few to pick from!!!.

Man Kai and Flick drove me crazy, in a good way, with their relationship. Kai is definitely carrying a lot of baggage from his childhood, he hates Mercy and can't wait to leave again. Flick has a track record of picking the wrong guys and Kai has heartache and trouble stamped all over his hot, well muscled body. She also loves living in Mercy, she has family, friends and a business there. Their one night stand backfires when Kai gets stuck in town. Kai and Flick's story is steamy and funny. The citizens of Mercy and antics of Flicks rescue dog had me laughing out loud. I'm looking forward to Reagan and Axl's story.

Mercy Me by Joss Wood is a GREAT start to a new series. Kai Manning doesn’t like small towns but that’s where his business partners at Caswsllawn Security want to settle down. The only saving grace is the sister of one of their best battle buddies, Felicity ‘Flick’ Sturgis, who runs a local bakery. Flick has had a crush on Kai for a while but he travels for work and doesn’t want to stay in the small town of Mercy anyway. When Kai has to stay in town to support one of the other partners, they start hanging out together. I loved the way Joss builds the relationship between Kai and Flick and using a rescue dog named Rufus to help. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I warmed up to it:
It took me a while to settle into it with the first part coming across as rather immature and repetitive. Things improved however especially with the arrival of young Tally. There was a good mix of humour, drama and heat. I didn't form as close a connection to Flick and Kai as I would have liked but I was glad that they eventually worked things out.
Overall this was an enjoyable book yet it needs further editing as there were some inconsistencies and errors. It was fun getting to know some of the other residents of this quirky town and would be interested in reading upcoming books in the series.

Don't make plans. Kai is someplace he does not want to be but thinks there is a expiration to his time there. Kai does not want to be in Mercy - it's too small town for him. And then there's Felicity. He was not expecting to meet someone that he vibed with so completely. They are such a cute couple whose romance theirs is such a cute and somewhat quick but believable. They have serious chemistry. And he learns that there are some good things in this place he did not want to be. A good start to the series.

I would like to thank Booksprout and Author Joss Wood for a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review. Kai is a grumpy man who trains people for combat. He hates small towns but that is exactly where he ends up. Flick is known for taking in strays and being unlucky in love. She runs a bakery along with her cousin Pippa. When Kai's friend talks him into getting coffee at "The Artsy Tartsy" (isn't that name just the cutest?),he doesn't expect to be instantly smitten with Flick. A little fling couldn't hurt, right? I really enjoyed reading this story! The chemistry between Kai and Flick was super hot and I was glad that they let their walls down. Grumpy-sunshine at it's finest!

A small town Mercy is the new home for the headquarters of Caswallawn Security. Kai isn't sure why his best friends and partners chose this small town. Why not a bigger town or city. He is so ready to leave when he comes across the local baker Flick. There is something about her that is drawing him to her. Sawyer has to leave town for a family emergency, so Kai plans are put on hold.
Kai and Flick decide to have a lil fling until her plans were put on hold. Will they be able to keep their hands and their hearts to themselves.

Mercy is a small town full of interesting people, and like all towns gossip spreads like wild fire. Cupcakes and cookies make the world a better place. Running is not for the feint of heart. Dogs are a man's best friend. And somethings, facing hard things lead to happiness.

If you're looking for a small town romance with comedy, love, friendships, and family, not all pretty and perfect, spend a day of two diving into Mercy and meeting the crew!.

This book is delightful! Laugh-out-loud funny in so many places! Kai and Felicity are amazing and Mercy is so small town - I sympathize with Kai about the lack of corporations and having to drive miles just to go to a McDonald's! But often that is the trade off - closeness, camaraderie versus characterless convenience. Mercy OnLine reminds me of Nextdoor, only infinitely funnier! I hope the author has plans to continue this series - I'm looking forward to the next book already!.

A fun, small town with plenty of laughs, and the trials and tribulations of family and friends. Come to Mercy Virginia and get acquainted with Caswallawn Security.

Kai reluctantly relocated to Mercy with the other members of Caswallan Security, but he is not fond of small towns. Flick is a local bakery owner; she has difficulty finding the right guy; maybe she is unlucky in love. Kai is instantly smitten with Flick, and maybe, just maybe, there is something to this small town after all.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This is the first book in a new series, and this is Kai and Flick’s story. Kai had a tough childhood, which has made him fiercely independent, and he is not looking for relationships. Flick is the owner of a bakery, and when she and Kai cross paths they chemistry is combustible and undeniable. This is a well written fun small-town romance, with friendships, family, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining and steamy small-town story, which is a compelling page turner.

Joss Wood has created a wonderful feel good small town romance. The characters are fantastic and relatable. Love Rufus. Kai feels unlovable and refuses to settle down in the small "cute" town of Mercy. Flick has a rescue syndrome problem with animals and men. How they work through their "problems" makes for a interesting and fun book. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series.

I thought this was a very enjoyable read. The smart blend of small-town charm, emotion, drama, humor and heart reads easily. Flick and Kai were appealing characters and I really like them as a couple. Their chemistry sparked and I thought they were very cute, sweet and steamy together. An excellent way to start off this new series that I am eager to explore more of. I'm electing to post a volitional review.

This is one funny small-town romance. The story with a lot of family drama, noisy neighbors, humor, a dog and grumpy ex-military hotness. Both Kai and Felicity are well-developed with their own character flaws and downs. It takes a while until they realize that they are meant for each other. Funny lovely read, I really enjoyed it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Kai and Flick meant it to be only a casual hookup but it doesn't stay that way. Between Kai staying longer in Caswallan, the gossip online, secrets forced to keep and can't keep their hands off each other, it soon turns to love. However it takes Kai leaving before he realizes it and hurries back to Flick for good.

Kai works with his two friends and when he finds out the company is moving to small town Mercy he is not happy because he likes to travel without anything or anyone tying him down. Felicity is the towns baker and she has too much on her plate to get involved with anyone but Kai makes it hard not to at least think about it.
