DIDN'T WORK FOR ME

Full disclosure - I had not read any of the previous books in this series. And while I tried to not let that affect me, it was very hard. Because this does not really work as a standalone. Simply because the world was too large, there were too many characters and there was too much back history, that was not disclosed well enough. Usually with Grants books they are pretty much standalones even in series. This was not the case with this book. While I of course cannot say whether or not I would have found this more appealing if I had read the rest of the series, I actually don't think so. Simply because there was too much going on for my taste. It never really got its stride, in my opinion. It felt... messy, I guess is the right word. But as I cannot say whether this would be lessened, if I had read the first five books, I have settled on a 3 star rating.

This installment of the Dragon Kings series is truly one for the ages and my understanding is the next one, which obviously had to come after it will be the prequel to the entire shebang, one that begins back at the very beginning of the world when Dragons and magick first arrived (or met) for the first time on earth. I am dying to read that one and Donna has set us up for it beautifully with Dragon Arisen as she opened our eyes to just how deep and twisted her imagination truly can get. Alasdair has had a long time to sink into his despair, but the time has come that he is going to pull himself out of it in order to protect the dragons and fight for their place in their new world, whether they will thank him for it or not. His goals are few, but they are deadly and he needs the help of one very unique and deadly gifted female, even if no one—even the woman herself—really understands her gifts. Lotti has never found her place in this world, never been welcomed or found home, but she will fight to prevent the entire world from being thrown into a needless war. She doesn’t understand the instant and unheard-of attraction she feels to Alasdair, but at the same time she doesn’t want to fight their pull. Her sass, strength, intelligence, and diligence will serve her well as she fights with and beside this bossy and annoying Dragon King to save all worlds from the evil that is bent on beginning the end of it all. The passion between Alasdair and Lotti is unreal even as they both fight it every moment, not understanding how they can be so drawn together when they don’t know or trust one another, but once they accept there is no fighting it, the fire is beautiful to watch burn. I loved how they came together and found one another despite all the dangers, obstacles, and fears they and others kept placing between them, proving that truly nothing conquers true love. I am absoluting dying for the next story coming our way, Ignite the Magic, and I know that when it comes, I will be taking time off from work unless I get it on a weekend because there’s no way in hell, I will be able to focus on any world beyond Donna’s Dark World once the magic hits me.

Ok, I’ll admit it… I have been such a long-time reader and fan of Donna Grant that …sigh… I had become jaded and even borderline cynical about her Dragon Kings and the expanding development of their multidimensional world. So, when the latest advance reader copy arrived in my inbox, I was prepared for this book to be the last one I reviewed.

Gulp… yah.. um… no… that’s not happening any time soon. Donna Grant is a storytelling marvel. The love story of Dragon King Alastair and Lottie contains a deeper emotional exploration not seen in previous books. These two characters are introspective and self-aware but surprised at their connection. (Don’t you just love it???)

IF you are a reader of DG’s Dragon Kings, you know that at this point, there are multiple story threads vying for the reader’s attention. However, like the master craftswoman that she is, DG grabs these threads from the reader and weaves them into Dragon Arisen. What’s more, DG adds new, twisted threads of surprise to this marvelous tapestry that serve to enlighten the reader and fuel new questions about the origin of the Dragon Kings and an enemy no one expected.

All I can is do NOT waste your time reading multiple reviews. Buy the book for yourself and start reading. Yes, it’s cliché but it deserves to be said… “You will not be disappointed” .

MIND BLOWN!!

So many questions finally answered and answers to questions I didn’t even know needed answering. Big reveals.

Lotti has been on her own for as long as she can remember. Constantly run out of villages and treated with mistrust and hate she has learned to avoid others and depend only on herself.

Alisdair thought coming to Zora was a dream come true until his long lost dragons turned their backs on him and shunned him. He turns his focus towards finding Merrill and along the way stumbles across Lotti who at first doesn’t trust him or want his help but soon realizes they work better together.

Alisdair quickly realizes Lotti has magic though she has no idea who or what she is but they work together to find Merrill, take on Villette and uncover mind blowing truths about Earth, Zora, the Dragons and more!

This is the best installment of the entire spin off series. A must read!

Dragon Arisen by Donna Grant was a sensational read every way. The plot is so intricate and tension filled that I just couldn't put it down. The action and the suspense was mindblowing. This exotic fictional world felt more real than my real world! The author's imagination knows no boundaries here. Alasdair and Lotti are caught in a tangled web of magic, conspiracies, love and passion. And I cannot wait to go back to the Dragon kings' world.

Alasdair and the Dragon kings are trying to fight many battles together. Saving the children with magical power from the evil Divine and the city of Stonemare. Trying to reconnect with the Dragons. Trying to find out the invisible enemy. Alasdair has to go in search of the missing Dragon king Merrill. On the way, in the forest, he meets Lotti. She is a loner and she is afraid to stay close to anyone. But why? Does she have something to hide?

The best part of this story is you can go right in here without reading the previous books yet not feel lost. The author has cleverly crafted the story in such a way that you get to understand the complex politics and war faced by the Dragon kings. Alasdair is definitely a larger than life character. His magical ability is powerful. He is alpha through and through. He has all the instincts of a king. Protectiveness. Fairness. Strength. Kindness. Fierceness. And all these made Lotti fall for him. He also has vulnerability that calls to her broken side. She had a lonely life without love or care since she was a child. She has a strong magic within her but she never knew how to use it properly. She has been ostracized and hurt and she was afraid that her unknown power may harm others. It was hard to trust Alasdair and he wasn't sure if they can trust Lotti. But together they went on the mission to find Merill and the Divine and on the way, they realised they have a bond that goes deep and is more than their electric chemistry. Lotti came out of her shell as she started to feel protective of Alasdair. Together they formed a formidable force. Secrets and twists keep on coming like an avalanche and my heart is all kinds of chaos now. It was sinful and adrenaline filled and extraordinary at every step. Alasdair and Lotti won my heart easily.

(3.5 stars)

This is a great continuation of the Dragon King series, filled with action, intrigue, plot twists and of course love. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, as well as circle back and read the previous books to understand the history the Kings and their dragons went through even better.

I absolutely loved Alasdair. That man deserves the moon, the stars and everything else that's good in the universe. He is the kindest, most patient, respectful, loving protector I think I've ever read. A real stand up guy, as you'd say. He’s the kind of man that will have your back, support you through anything and be your own personal cheerleader through your entire life. If anyone knows where I can find myself an Alasdair, now would be the time to fess up!

Another thing I liked about this book was the plot. We get a continuation of the overarching plot line of who/what the invisible foe is as well as what happened to the missing Merrill. On top of that, the plot kept thickening the further you got into the book, with extra characters that added mystery and intrigue and kept you guessing. And can we talk about that plot twist? It made my jaw drop for a full minute! I can't wait to see what happens next.

So why only rate 3.5 stars then? Mostly, because I had a hard time with the first 30% of this book, which impacted my reading enjoyment throughout the entire experience, although it got better towards the end. Here's why:

* Lotti's character:
- Her having this (in my opinion) irrational fear of dragons, that is never fully explained. I still don't know why she reacted so strongly to the dragon border, or why she had such all consuming fear. It was too intense to not be a trauma reaction, but Lotti denied that.
- Her not liking to be touched, always staying a step behind, etc etc at the beginning of the book made me frown a lot, because I didn't understand where that came from. Of course, now that I've finished the book, it makes a lot more sense. But when I started reading, I thought the author was possibly trying to depict a character with ASS, which wouldn't have been the way to do so. The explanation about being alone most of her life or not wanting to hurt people didn't seem to (fully) fit either.
- The way she treated Alasdair at the beginning (see romance).

After finishing the book, however, I must say I appreciate the overall character arc Lotti went through. I loved seeing her becoming more confident and trusting through her positive experiences with Alasdair. Although her being able to magically use her magic and it all working out from the first try definitely came in handy, but we'll let that one slide ;)

* The romance:
- I didn't feel any romantic chemistry between these two characters, at first anyway; it got a little better after the 30% mark.
- I hated that Lotti treated Alasdair so badly in the beginning. He really did not deserve to be treated that way. I was actually disappointed there never was an apology or explanation about why she reacted like that. And let's just agree that Alasdair is way too forgiving in his kindness, which only makes me love him more but also makes my loyal heart hurt and demand an apology.

So, because of the above, the book only half worked for me (ergo the rating). Don't let that stop you - from reading it though! I don't regret pushing through, because the plot and Alasdair made this book enjoyable, even though some aspects didn't work for me.

*The author, as well as the publisher through Netgalley, gifted me an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

An astounding revelation
In this newest installment of Donna Grant’s Dragon King’s series, Alasdair decides he needs to go find Merrill now. Near the beginning of his mission, he comes across a woman and a crying baby. The woman, however, will not pick up the child to try to soothe the baby. Alasdair finds it odd that she won’t, so he steps in to help the baby. The woman, Lotti, seemed scared to pick the child up & does not want to look after the child, but she also won’t let Alasdair take the child alone. She decides to accompany him to guarantee the child’s safety. Alasdair decides to take the child to Cullen & Tamlyn at Iron Hall since they have other children in their care. Unfortunately, being around Lotti seems to unsettle the other inhabitants of Iron Hall. After an incident, she leaves but upon hearing soldiers discussing someone named “Merrill” she backtracks to find Alasdair to let him know what she found out.
Alasdair is unsure about trusting Lotti after witnessing her inherent fear of dragons, but he agrees to let her show him the back way into Stonemore that she remembers from many years ago. Once they reach the entry, they are trapped inside with no way for Lotti to leave without venturing all the way into Stonemore. She tells Alasdair she will help him find Merrill. While searching, they find that the Divine has somehow been amassing information about the dragons for many years – i.e., maps of dragon land, drawings of various dragons, including the Twins & Con. It turns out there is a magic stone that shows images to the Divine’s people about dragons. Now Lotti & Alasdair must find that as well as Merrill, all while trying to figure out what Lotti is – she obviously has magic, but she can’t control it. Of course, they get caught in a very dangerous situation and a mysterious stranger somehow helps them out. Once they are safe, Alasdair & Lotti finally give into their growing attraction.
The mysterious stranger is somehow tied to the Divine, and Lotti. As devoted Donna Grant fans know, she has a way of connecting characters that only the most cunning of readers may have guessed. I know I did not see the twist coming, but I am even more intrigued now and can’t wait to see what becomes of our Dragon Kings. How will this new knowledge affect them and whether or not it helps them find their invisible foe? I had to re-read some portions cause I could not believe what I had read. Donna Grant has delivered excitement, drama, romance & mystery once again.

Dragon Arisen exposes more of Zora’s dysfunctionality, while revealing shocking secrets and expanding the Dragon Kings’ knowledge and understanding of the universe and the realms in it.

Alasdair and Lotti had a rocky start, but once they found a common goal, they put all their fears and differences aside and managed to work together really well. I love how Alasdair was able to utilize Lotti’s magic by using it to enhance his own. Lotti had a rapid development arc from believing she had no magic at all (despite what was happening to her), to discovering who and what she really was, and in the end being able to use her magic more effectively.

This book is an important puzzle piece in the story of the Dragon Kings. We find out a little bit more about where they and the dragons came from, but there are also a lot of questions left hanging. I enjoyed the ending, with all the snippets of various characters and where they are in their journeys. It definitely left me wanting more.

By now we’ve met a whole lot of Dragon Kings. The numbers are becoming a bit mind-boggling. This leaves me wondering just how many dragon clans and dragons there were on Earth and how many of them exist now on Zora?

I can highly recommend this exciting series is you like dragons, magic, and romance. It is best to read them in order.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is book #6 in the Dragon Kings series and it does not disappoint. In this book, we get to meet another couple, Alasdair and Lotts. Alasdair is a powerful Dragon King, who was disheartened with the reception he received by his Dragons in Zora. For so many centuries of grieving and not knowing the fate of the dragons, once they crossed the bridge, was a devastating blow, to be rejected by them. He does not make the best impression, when we first meet him, but he offers to find, Merrill, the Dragon King that disappeared in Stone More. Along the way, he meets Lotti, who is a loner that possesses magic that she cannot control and believes that bad things happen, whenever someone is close to her. Although, Lotti is afraid of the DK, she agrees to help him locate Merrill. Alasdair and Lotti learn to trust each other and their chemistry is HOT!!!, but it was their adventure in Stone more that kept me on the edge of my seat. Secrets were uncovered that will change lives. Questions were answered, but only to have more questions. WOW…Another great read that ended way too soon and wishing the next book was instantly available. This is a spin off series from the Dark World, created by DG. I highly recommend this series, but I strongly suggest starting at the very beginning, which starts with Dangerous Highlander: A Dark Sword Novel.

DRAGON ARISEN is the sixth book in the Dragon King series. As always, I look forward to reading about these dragons because Grant’s world is so complex and imaginative. She is definitely the author I like to recommend when it comes to dragon shifter books.

Unsurprisingly, I found the characterization to be very good in this book. I would love to know how Grant keeps track of all her worldbuilding and characters because she does such a good job of developing them over the course of the series.

So although this is Alasdair and Lotti’s romance, a lot of the other character to play integral parts. I would definitely suggest reading the books in order because the world can get confusing sometimes with so many story arcs and characters involved.

Overall, I can’t recommend this series enough. The Dragon King series is definitely one of my favorite Paranormal Romances out there, so don’t miss out and give it a try!

What a story!
First, I want to say that you will get the most enjoyment from this book if you have read the prior books in the series. But, if you haven’t, you’ll still be able to enjoy reading Dragon Arisen. Our two main characters are Alasdair, a Dragon King, and Lotti, who might or might not be human or magical. While a little slow to start, the story picks up and becomes a thrill ride for the reader. Donna Grant gives us a story to spark our curiosity and imagination. No spoilers, but readers, you can’t begin to imagine all the ways that this book will grab you and make you want the next book right away. Well written, with great characterizations, Donna puts more into this book than the previous five. And she gives us hints as to the upcoming developments that will affect not just Zora, but Earth also. This book reminds me of the earlier Dragon King books and is very welcome to those of us who’ve been reading this very extensive series. Grab this book and enjoy the rollercoaster! I was given an ARC of the book from the author through BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.

Alasdair is a powerful Dragon King. Out looking for one of his brethren he runs across a woman on her own.

Alasdair had never yearned for anyone as he did for the woman in his arms. Fate had put her in his path.

Lottie has always been alone. There is so much she doesn’t know about herself.

There are so many revelations in this story. Shocking and dangerous secrets that will change everything. Such a great adventure that keeps you coming back for more.

Two words after reading Dragon Arisen: Mind. Blown!
Gah! Seriously, though. This book was amazing! Questions were answered, but soooo many more were raised. Canons you thought you knew, ground into dust. Dragon origins. Star People. War on the horizon. There's just so much going on in this book. You need to read it for yourself and see. Really. Read. This. Book!!!

And the covers are ah-may-zingggg!!!

Many thanks to the author and BookFunnel for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

Wow! As my youngest granddaughter likes to say, “I So was NOT expecting That!” Intriguing secrets from the past and present… boggles my mind and leaves me reeling, clamouring for more! I can hardly wait to see where this goes next!

Alasdair and Lottie are enchanting and adorable. Their undeniable chemistry is off the charts and thoroughly addictive. The secrets that we keep discovering on Zora are so unpredictable and captivating that I didn’t want to put the book down. I certainly didn’t want to see this story end either! When is the next book coming out? Not soon enough!

What to say without giving anything away? Secrets. Dragons. Edge of your seat plot. A little sex. Answers to a lot of questions but more questions raised.
Lotti has been in her own since she was little. No one ever wanted her and they always ended up running her off. She doesn't know what she is or how she does the things she does. While traveling through the woods, she hears a baby cry. She doesn't know what to do because she's afraid to let people near her.
Alasdair is the dragon king of the amethyst. He visits Zora where the other dragons have been found. They want nothing to do with the dragon kings and this upsets Alasdair. He decides to go hunt for Merrill, another dragon king that is missing, and comes across Lotti. Together they look for Merrill and find a connection between them that Lotti has never known before.

Lotti and Alasdair

Well DG broke all records with Dragon Arisen. It starts off slow, as she brings storylines together but she builds the anxiety as well. Each reveal had me on the edge of my seat. This story was very unexpected but is greatly appreciated. I have some many things to ponder while I wait for the next story in this series. Happy Reading 📚

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

Really enjoyable read!! It’s hard to say too much without giving it away but lots of questions have been answered from the previous books but it’s left me with more questions…!! I’m excited to know more about Merrill which I’m sure we will find out in her next book “Ignite the magic.”

I loved seeing Alisdair and Lotties grow in this book and loved the slow burn aspects.

Great characters, interesting twists and some great world building.

4.25 stars-DRAGON ARISEN is the sixth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult DRAGON KINGS fantasy / paranormal romance series-a spin off from the author’s Dark Kings, which in turn is a spin off from several other fantasy series by the same author. This is Amethyst King Alasdair, and Lotti’s storyline. DRAGON ARISEN can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise including the search for a missing King, and the history as to how the dragons came to live in Zora.

SOME BACKGROUND: For tens of thousands of years the Dragons have lived and ruled on Earth but a war between the dragons and humans forced the Dragon Kings to send the other dragons through a portal into an unknown world. Fast forward to present day, the portal has been revealed, and the Dragon Kings have been reunited in Zora, with their family and kin, but a new war is on the horizon between the Dragons, the Divine and the people of Stonemore.

Told from third person perspective following several intersecting pathways, DRAGON ARISEN focuses on the continuing search for a missing King. Merrill went in search for answers as to why the dragons have been attacked by an unknown entity but has not been seen for several weeks. Desperate to find his ‘brother’, Alasdair volunteers to hunt for the missing King only to discover a young woman and baby, that is not her own. Struggling with the right thing to do in an effort to save the young child, Lotti offers the baby to Alasdair having no idea as to his true identity. Alasdair believes he has discovered his fated mate but the ‘humans’ have been taught to fear the dragons, and once revealed, the truth is about to pull our couple apart but all is not well, and Lotti unearths a possible location for Alasdair’s missing friend, a location that is about to reveal more than anyone could have every imagined. What ensues is the search for Merrill, and the potential fall-out as a new enemy is on the hunt for our heroine, and in doing so, reveals the true nature of the existence of dragons.

The relationship between Lotti and Alasdair begins acrimoniously. Lotti has lived most of her life as an outcast, alone, and without the love of family and friends. Meeting Alasdair gives Lotti a hope for the future but the truth about her life and her story reveals that Lotti is something more than human, something more than the dragons had known. Alasdair is desperate to find his missing ‘brother’ but secrets reveal that Merrill may not be missing at all. Someone is controlling the people of Stonemore, and Merrill may be caught in the middle of the war. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic, magical and familiar secondary and supporting characters as well as the introduction of several new supernatural powers, powers that reveal the history of man and dragonkind. Merrill has been discovered but refuses to return believing his mission has yet to be accomplished.

DRAGON ARISEN is a multi-faceted story with several intersecting plot lines, and the introduction of something new. The history of the dragons as had been previously revealed goes deeper and darker with a connection to the creator, who goes by many names, a creator that reveals itself to our story line couple. The premise is detailed, complex and intriguing; the romance is subtle; the characters are desperate, determined and dynamic.

I DNF'd this book at 64%. I am clearly in the minority here, because at the time of writing this, there are 157 ratings and not a single one is one- or two-stars. Additionally, at the time of writing this, there are only seven three-star reviews. Every other review is four- or five-stars, with the overwhelming majority (77%) as five-star reviews. I am obviously missing something. That's the reason I kept going as long as I did, up to 64%, because how can 157 ratings be wrong? What am I missing? Maybe it gets better? But ultimately, life's too short for books I can't connect to.

I was told this could be read as a stand-alone, and I didn't need to read the other books in the series to know what was going on, and while that may be true, I don't know if I agree with that. The world is complex and there's a lot going on. I think there's at least three, maybe four, sub-plots going on and I'm frustrated by that, because its taking away from this novel's core plot, and introducing characters and locations I don't know and am not invested in, because I haven't spent time with them. I think its a mistake, or at least a disservice, to say this can be read as a stand-alone.

I also didn't really enjoy the writing style. To me, it felt like a Percy Jackson novel trying to pretend to be an adult novel. When an 18 year old tries to act mature and 21 to not get ID'ed at the check out lane, that's how this book felt. I wanted to try this book because it was described as "sexy" and "scintillating" and some of the other books in the series were described as "erotic". I wasn't expecting smut exactly, but I was expecting romance, and I was certainly expecting a more adult voice, but I'm at 64% in and it ain't here. I was under the impression this was some kind of fated mates story, but this seems to be more fantasy adventure? When I stopped reading, I think I'd seen one very brief moment of romance between the FMC and MMC, which quickly diffused like it has never happened. Lotti (FMC) has spent the majority of the book wanting to get away from Alasdair (MMC) because she prefers solitude, but if I had to wager a guess at how this book ends, Alasdair will be the one to "fix" Lotti and she'll be able to be around people again. I'm not going to dive too deep into the message that would send about women being broken if they're introverts or not confident in themselves, and needing a man to come along and fix them.

I would like to say a big thank you to Donna Grant for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are my own.

Dragon Arisen is a continuation of the Dark Kings Series but part of her Dark Universe Tapestry! Each book is connected but each can be read as a standalone. There is an overarching storyline that is too good to pass up, that unravels as it travels through each book evolving alongside each couple!

We return to Zora with our beloved Dragon Kings to hear Alasdair and Lotti's story! The mystery that is Zora continues to grow as we are taken on one heck of a ride! This story definitely is a wild one. Full of mystery, intrigue, shocking truths, Dragons, with lots of unexpected twists and turns!

Alasdair is a fearsome dragon king who's strength and power is enough to instill fear and stop anyone in their tracks. Alasdair is on a mission, so when Lotti, a woman shrouded in mystery, lands in his path, things take an interesting turn. Can Alasdair's curiosity win over Lotti who keeps everyone at a distance? With their enemies closing in, Lotti has to learn to trust not only in Alasdair but herself.

I felt this story really took me on a deep dive through the Dragons rich history and some unexpected things I never saw coming along the way. This book is a whole mystery in itself that unravels blissfully with each page. I could not get enough to say the least!

Zora is an enchanting place filled with treachery and adventure and I love how it opens up a little more with each story. With every new and old character this world gets more detailed and enriched.

I'm enthralled with these characters and this world the more immersed I get. The rich world building is seamlessly woven as the story unfolds. The character development is perfectly paced and I can't get enough! It was amazing to see our Dragon Kings and their mates again!

I highly recommend this series and the Dark Universe it takes place in. Donna is a master at weaving these worlds together and each story dives deeper than the last! Donna has a way to expertly craft these characters and the world they are in, in such a way that will hold you captive. I was a happy captive in this book and I truly loved it! I can't wait for more of this world, these characters, this mystery, and everything in between!

Are you ready to travel back to Zora? Safe travels!

Dragon Arisen is the 6th book in the Dragon King Series and I’d strongly recommend that you at least read the earlier books in this series and Dark Alpha’s Obsession (Reapers series) first - it will be important for a new reader in order for them to truly understand the last 50 pages or so of the book - and for all of the series readers who have been reading the Dark Universe for years - Donna just threw out a MAJOR plot twist (set aside a few hours and be ready to have every theory you’ve had blown to pieces).

Dragon Arisen is Alasdair (King of the Amethyst's) and Lotti’s story. Alasdair made the decision to go and try and find a missing King - Merrill. During his mission he comes across Lotti who has found a human baby that she’s unwilling to touch because of past issues when she’s touched people. Alasdair makes the decision to bring the baby to Cullen and Tamlyn (Dragon Unbound) and Lotti goes with him to make sure the baby will be safe. During their trek they’re attacked by the invisible enemy and Alaisdair makes the decision to bring Lotti into Cullen and Tamlyn’s home. While there, Alasdair reveals that he’s a Dragon King (Lotti is terrified of the Dragon’s) and it becomes clear that Lotti has magic that appears to impact anyone who isn’t a Dragon King - the decision is made that they’ll go their separate ways.

Shortly after going their separate ways, Lotti comes across the Divine’s soldiers and realizes that she’s come across important information that may help Alasdair in his quest. Lotti and Alasdair reunite and realize that they’re meant to be. As they search for Merrill, we find out more about the Divine, the Beast that the Divine has held prisoner, the Crone who brought the Kings to Zora, more about Lotti’s background and her connection to the Crone and the Divine. Oh, and Donna throws in a major twist that tells us more about the Dragon King’s history (they didn’t even remember this), how humans came to earth (and Zora) that will have an impact on the Dragon Kings on both Zora and Earth and on the Reapers.

Dragon Arisen is a major turning point in the Dark universe and I’m expecting that we’ll see more storylines cross as the Dragon Kings series continues. I CANNOT WAIT to read book 7 in January 2024!

Dragon Arisen: Every time I start reading one of Donna Grants books I can not put them down this one was Absolutely Amazing! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on adventure within Zora. Alasdair is determined to find Merril who has been taken on Zora and the Kings have all continued to try with no answers to his whereabouts.

Alasdair King of the Amethyst’s sets out towards the worst human city on Zora Stonemore in search of their brother in arms Merril. Along his journey he hears a baby crying and rushes to its rescue. Alasdair is stunned to find a beautiful woman standing over the small babe but she is not picking the little one up. He is quick to help and discovers that there is more to this mysterious woman than he anticipates.

Lotti has been alone for the majority of her life and finds it difficult to trust anyone. Can she overcome her fears and work alongside Alasdair? Lotti is on a journey of her own always alone and not knowing who she is. Can Alasdair help her along the way?

This is the sixth book in the the spin off series Dragon Kings and will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next! This amazing book takes us on a journey with these two characters and their undeniable attraction with each other. Alasdair is finding it’s the one woman he never saw coming, but can they work together to find Merril. This book will bring up so many emotions and sets new puzzle pieces moving that will leave you wanting more you will have to read and find out.

All I can say is Donna Grant you are an amazing Author you always nail it. I cannot wait to see what happens next all I can say is I am so glad the Dragon Kings are continuing it’s going to be a wild ride! I am giving this book 5 stars Donna Grant’s books are so easy to read and if you haven’t read her books before this one will certainly leave you wanting more. Buy now you will not be disappointed I am so looking forward to all the future novels in any genre as Donna’s many different stories continue.

Alasdair is the Dragon King of the Amethysts. His time on Zora, along with the dragon’s frosty reception, leaves him frustrated. Alasdair offers to search for his missing brethren. He happens upon a beautiful yet aloof woman on his travels. Alasdair cannot help but suspect her, especially when she offers to help him into Stonemore, undetected. However, he learns far more than what he bargained for. Can Alasdair and Lotti escape Stonemore unscathed?

Lotti leads a solitary life. She knows her presence brings danger to those around her. Lotti’s path soon crosses Alasdair’s. She cannot ignore her reaction to the strange yet enigmatic man. Lotti agrees to help Alasdair sneak into the one place she purposely avoids – the human settlement called Stonemore. She discovers something surprising about herself there. Can Lottie help Alasdair find his missing friend?

It took me a while to connect with both Lotti and Alasdair. I cannot really pinpoint why. I did empathize and understand Alasdair’s frustration concerning the dragons. It must have been a devastating blow for him and his brethren once coming to Zora.
I sympathized with Lotti. She wanted to find a place where she truly belonged with people who loved and accepted her. However, Lotti’s innate ability hindered her. I admire Lottie for choosing a solitary existence to protect others from harm.

DRAGON ARISEN is the sixth book in Donna Grant’s paranormal-fantasy romance series, DRAGON KINGS – a spin-off from her popular DARK KINGS series. Most of Donna’s paranormal series are interconnected ( DARK KINGS, DRAGON KINGS, REAPERS, DARK SWORD, DARK WARRIORS; SKYE DRUIDS).

I only have one nitpick. It probably does not bother anyone else. However, after many books (Goodreads states there are eighteen books in the DARK KINGS, plus the sixth books in DRAGON KINGS) and novellas, we know the dragon kings’ history and backstory. Whenever I get to that part in the story, I skip past it. It always drags down the storyline’s momentum for me.

Secrets, revelations & more questions

Another mindblowing story from Donna Grant's Dark Universe, DRAGON ARISEN is book #1 in the Dragon Kings series, and once again was another I couldn't put down. It has become my favourite of this new series.

The Realm of Zora finally reveals just how flawed it really is. Secrets are beginning to be revealed, allowing the Dragon Kings to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of the societies that are found there.

Alasdair is the King of the Amethysts and has yearned to go to Zora to reunite with his clan, but his heart is broken when they reject him wanting nothing to do with him. He then decides to search for Merrill, the Dragon King who has been missing. On his travels he meets Lottie. Lottie has been an outcast from society since she was young, so she has little trust in others. She has no idea of where she belongs or why she has the ability to do the things she does. Alasdair and Lottie don't exactly get off to a great start, but it doesn't take them long to form a connection. In fact, their chemistry is explosive, and together they are both red hot and sweet.

Donna intricately weaves a lot of information throughout this incredible story. More is learnt about the history of both the dragons and mankind, some new powers are divulged, and some complexities arise that I never imagined. More is discovered regarding Merrill's situation. Is he really missing, or is something more sinister happening?

DRAGON ARISEN is an absolute MUST READ for lovers of this world. A sublime romance, so many revelations, so many details, yet there are so many questions remaining. I cannot wait for Ignite The Magic to arrive giving more information regarding the history of the dragons.

I received this book as an ARC, however, the review below is my own.

Oh. My. God. Now I KNOW Ms. Grant has a way to make me not want to put a book down....but to nearly want to break my reader in half? I never ever thought I would feel that same "animosity" I felt when we were dealing with Dierdre or even Usaeil (I'd like to have used her OTHER nickname but alas, I can keep it clean lol). But guys you have NO idea how much worse it is now. Without spoilers, it's a big one. I mean, a really really REALLY big enemy and gosh darn, aren't they a hoot?! Of course the book had to end, which, unfortunately was the worst part in my opinion. So much is going on and I feel like we aren't even close to finding a solution for our beloved Dragon Kings to win...yet. Because as a Ms. Grant specialty, she has so many loops to take us through and weave us into her intricate world of Zora.

Sure, sure. The couples Alastair and Lottie have to get through their own personal battles. Oh, and there is a personal battle for both of them. But with their newfound knowledge of things, it can only aid the Dragon Kings to their victories. I don't ask that as a question because it's not. If we know anything about your magically inclined friends of the sky, it's that they will always win over their enemies. Ipad be darned if it gets damaged!

I will say, this is one of the few books where I felt the smut was tastefully minimal, to cater to the overarching story. Normally, I do enjoy my the spicier reads but again, it's done so tastefully in this DK book that I was happy for it.

All in all, 10/5 because honestly, I. Am. SO. Hooked. And I need to know but don't want to know how the Kings will win.....but I need to also know!

I didn't read the first 5 books, so this was read as a standalone book, and it was a giveaway. I also think this was a pre-edit version I'm reading bc there were a few consistency problems... so they may be fixed or irrelevant in the "true" release, so take my review with a grain of salt, plz.

Idk why I thought this was action adventure-y I didn't really read the synopsis, I just saw dragon and I want to read more dragon related books.

Hm. So it's a romance, and there's a missing person they're looking for...

I got to 35% and I think I'm quitting; I might read a little bit further, but we should be deep into the plot by now and like aside from bestial mystical attraction and the nicey nice dance, not much has happened. I think the story is missing a layer. Like there's the "love story progression" hint: they're at the fluttereye flirt stage and then the "missing person case" well the location's been resolved pretty flatly, but we're at 35% and I don't actually care. Will the missing person bring the layer we're missing? Idk. And I'm not even sure what that layer is... I think I might be missing my action comedies here tho, tbh. I like my heavy stuff interspersed with comedy or absurdity somehow and it's just not this.

(gosh my true review is like, "What is this romance genre?! Why is it not like Beware of Chicken; needs more magicarp and genre-self-aware characters." XD Sorry to the author...)

Also side note for the Author: Next series you make a map in, consider making a map specifically to be seen on a kindle screen; I can't really see anything useful on the map, and I'm not sure if that's because the map is literally only showing two places, or because it's on a kindle screen its just that garbled and hard to see.
