Two kings in need of an heir. One woman with the power to save them all.
The nobles may believe that Ria assists her father by doing menial tasks around his shop, but the truth is far more sinister. Her magic is the secret to his success, and he will do anything to keep her under his control.
Ria fears she will never escape, until a summons to the palace changes everything.
King Toren and King Mehl have been married for a century. Unfortunately, they have yet to procure an heir. While that royal tradition has long been waived for same-sex pairings, Toren’s brother thirsts for power, and the couple must take action to secure their reign.
Toren must find a woman to carry his heir. Ria longs to break free from her cruel father. Her becoming a mate for both Toren and Mehl should be a mutually beneficial arrangement. But can the handsome kings convince Ria to trust them with her heart?

its just too long. other than being about 500 pages long, this book is really good. i like the dynamic between mehl, toren and ria, and i think they were a really complex and amazing group to follow. my only really issue with this book is that is was so long and just kept on going. i really liked the worldbuilding and all of the different plots occurring I.E the love growing between the three, but also ber trying to take over and ruin everything for them. i would definitely recommend this book for a person who has enjoyed books by sarah j maas, but wishes to read a story a bit more sexy and with a better writing style. this reminds me of a Loki fanfic i read a year ago called the girl with the golden earrings, so if you know what im talking about, read this!
The story here was good. The romance? Not so much. The instant feelings the throuple experiences are just ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that the constant threat of Toren losing control of his power gets old quickly. I will say that the bigger plot, intrigue, and mystery make it a good read. It could have been better.

My biggest reasoning for not finishing was that it seemed that it was dragging. Like the day after they arrest? her father they mention announcing his punishment in three days. That was the beginning of the book. I'm at 43% and we still haven't had that confrontation.
The whole spy situation literally made no sense. How was she not recognized? How did she manage to get away with so much with so little experience? Why, as a princess, was she so gullible to the King's brothers lies?
Also I know the author tried to make it so that the relationship felt equal by having the fmc trying to include everyone but it just was not working for me. The chemistry wasn't there. The two guys were not attentive enough because they didn't actually care about getting to know her. They were using the fact that she could handle the kings power to use her.
That being said, I do think that the author did a good job with the world building. I think that is what kept me going for as long as I did. I might try to read something else of McCain's.
An excellent story. The plot was more interesting than the romance, with lots of court intrigue. I think this book might have played better if it had focused more on developing the characters of the conspirators. The end is meaningless to the reader because we don’t know any of the people who got arrested. They’re just randos at the dinner table.
The three main characters were generally bland and so was their romance. Toren has all this power he can’t control and by the end, the only thing he does with it is change a law. Sort of a let down.
Mehl is probably the most developed and interesting of the three, but he’s hamstrung by his position and rarely acts.
I wanted Ria to do more cool magic with clothes or other things. By the end, I wasn’t even sure what her power was or what she could do with it. I thought that Toren was going to eventually get control of his magic because Ria could channel the excess into awesome magic clothing, but it never developed that way.
I've never seen a throuple done so perfectly. The spicy scenes are so riveting yet deep, pun intended. I usually hate mfm because its accostingly heterosexual, but the bisexuality of the men is beautiful and pure, not to mention hot. Mad respect for strong bisexual men representation. The characters are loveable and believable and true. The storyline is thrilling, surprising, and unexpectedly pure. Highly recommend.
I met Willow at a book event and scooped this one up from her. I LOVED it. Toren and Mehl.... uggghhhh! 🤤 the dynamic between those two and Ria is amazing. The bond they shared by the end of this book was the best, and I'm so here for it. The lust, love, betrayal, answered questions, satisfaction of weeding out the people with ill intent, it all came together so well. Highly recommend the read, and I can't wait to get into book two!
I found this by happy accident and am impressed with the story and details. Mystery, intrigue, a little steam and a wonderful love story are to be found within the pages. There are some spelling or editing errors but not so much as to interfere with the reading flow. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
The cover should have been warning enough! The story started out interesting in a smutty way. There was drama and an elaborate magical world with all it's machinations and gentry. There was a few smut scenes and after that a lot of mechanical political intrigue and no more smut at all. The last parts of the book I had to force myself to read...
Blew me out of the water! I was not expecting such cool world building and the sweetest romance. 3/5 chilies on the spice meters, but a lot of really sweet stuff too. I'm a big sucker for the throuple/polyam relationships and I adore how they balance one another! This is a definitely a (complete) series to try!
What a fabulous read! This book just kept on giving. I couldn't put it down! Pure fantasy, but with a gripping story line. It was so enjoyable to have a complete story, not broken down into smaller books. I really enjoyed this book.
I went into this with little to no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I will be reading the sequel when it comes out and will be waiting for the full book.
This was an easy and enjoyable read. I liked the concept of having two lovers, and I loved how jealously wasn't a thing between the three of them, only the female leads insecurities. It played a lot on the idea of love and the idea of having enough love for two people and more is really a pure thing when you think about it.
If you like the idea of a three way love story, this book is for you.
Loved this book ! The story is amazing and the way it’s written is just perfection ! I can’t recommend this book enough it’s definitely worth a read and I can’t wait for book two.
