I ran into him in a coffee shop, after I spilled a green smoothie down his shirt. He refused to let me pay him back, no matter how many times I apologize. "I rather enjoy the idea of you owing me," he says, with sparkling golden flecks lighting his hazel eyes. My cheeks grow warm under his gaze, which only serves to stoke my anger.
"Fine, asshole. Pay for your own smoothie."
I never imagined he was the one deciding if I'd get the job at the interview I had the next day. Mortification doesn't even begin to cover it.
He hired me, but I can hardly stand to be in his presence. Sure, he's the hottest grown man I've ever seen in person, but the way his eyes rove over my hips and pause on my chest has turned me into a sex-crazed fiend. There's a constant current of electric energy passing between us. Until he attacks another man for touching me.
"No one should touch you. No one should even look at you like that," he says.
"I'm not yours," I argue.
"You should be."
Beyond the Fields is Book 2 of the Awakening Love series, but can be read as a stand-alone. It is a spicy, 18+ romance with the following small-town romance, enemies-to-lovers romance, possessive hero, stubborn heroine, military romance, touch her and die.
I love the conflict between the Ashley and Gabe. There’s witty arguments, how both characters are stubborn yet vulnerable only with each other and of course, the spice level. This author hit the nail on the head with the level of vulnerability. It takes a certain amount of character growth to be vulnerable to someone you despise, to trust and love them unconditionally for the rest of their lives.
