Once again, the cases are stacking up thick and fast for our intrepid Witch PI. Jill must try and prove that the 'other' Jack Maxwell is innocent of the murder for which he was incarcerated. And why has the queen of the Yellas been sleeping for weeks? As if all that wasn't enough, Winky and his brother, Socks, need Jill's help to recover the cash stolen from them.
Jill is up to her normal hijinks. These books are cute and entertaining. A fun quick read with quirky characters. I want to go to The UK so I can try some custard creams.
This book was starting to revive the Jill we've known all along. All the mysteries were interesting. There were plenty of moments of humor at Jill's expense. Jack tries out an interesting new career. The regular side characters have fun cameo moments. I really enjoyed reading this one.
I know writers of series expect us to have read all the previous books, and I hate it when they sometimes remind us too much of past events; but I'm old and I forget stuff. Dear Ms. Abbott, if you read reviews, please in future books give us old folks a few more reminders of what happened in previous books when re-introducing old characters or plot lines. Snarky Jill could break the 4th wall (again) and talk directly to the reader and provide to tiny bit of background by saying, "Oh surely you haven't forgotten that...." It doesn't have to be paragraphs. A well turned sentence will have me going, "On yeah, I remember than." It's so much easier than rubbing cream on Grandma's bunions.
When we finally get a resolution to the whole Braxmore problem, I hope it doesn't end the series. I'd like to see another time jump with Jill dealing with a teenage daughter!
I've read all of Adele's books but specifically all the Witch is... I embarked on this series during the Pandemic (2020) and could read one a day during that time.
I adore Jack and Jill and Adele's play on words and quick witt in her writing. I recommend any of her books but I do so love this series and always look forward to the quarter so I can read a new one.
They're an easy read, taking sometimes deep subjects and making them light in a most appropriate way. I am always entertained even tho each story is built on the same pattern. I could read the same book over and over bc it provides an easy escape and some genuine entertainment.
I can't relate this to any of the big series lately, it's unique. But if you enjoy an easy comedy with British witt, try it out. Start from the beginning as that's how you get to know Jill and Jack and understand their antics. But each story builds on the last with new word puns to look forward to and in no time you'll be on the Adele Abbott train!
Adele Abbott is one of my guilty pleasures. Humans and supernaturals have their own turfs but often cross over, often causing problems for both, and the witch P.I. is called in to straighten things out. Animals can talk but only witches can understand them. Animals can do almost anything that humans can do, but only in their own secret places. It's all pretty silly but I find myself addicted. If you read any of the 47 volumes and enjoy it, you owe it to yourself to drop back to #1 and read the entire series. Abbot starts each volume where the previous one left off, usually without taking the time to explain things for the benefit of new readers. She is quirky like that.
How fantastic it is to get another " Witch is" book to read. It seems to take so long between books and then I just devour them. And, as usual, it's just as wonderful as all the others. Although Jill didn't get into too much trouble this time, I am always amazed how she comes up with these plans to fix things. So, onto the next book. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot, I have to wait forever til it comes out. I'll just have to re-read this one. Thanks Ms Abbott.
I read this as part of a reading challenge, and was lost most of the time!
Totally my fault, as this is book 47 in a series! Absolutely not a stand alone. Jill is easy enough to like, but her powers and the situations she dealt with had no context for me. (again - 100% my fault) It had some entertaining moments and was easy to read.
Another truly enjoyable book. How she comes up with the ideas and characters is mind boggling. That cat of hers is hysterical - he sings, he dances and he's really good at darts. Too funny. Oh, and of course Jill talks to him.
I love this series as it is a welcome break from my usual reading. It’s funny, fast, and it’s a fun read. I tend to read history, current matters, and some days my head needs a rest.
