What if you could climb into Mesu Andrews' mind while she plotted a biblical novel? You would see her research and imagination on each character's backstory. Have you ever read one of her books and wished you knew more about a character's motivation? Or more personal history that led to the characters' emotional reactions? Prophets & Kings: Prequel Collection was written to answer those questions.
His Unfathomable Plan attests to God's absolute goodness and sovereignty over even the most painful events of our lives. Before Aya becomes Isaiah's prophetess wife, she cares for a little girl, Abijah, who young Prince Ahaz later agrees to marry. You'll also meet the young prophet, Micah, whose little sister, Yaira, steals your heart in Isaiah's Daughter (Waterbrook, 2018).
Adnah's Legacy proves even the wickedest villain could have once been capable of love. Meet Shebna as an innocent boy, living with his father and beloved brother, Haruz. Both brothers fall in love with the household servant girl, Adnah. Later, in Isaiah's Legacy (Waterbrook, 2019), Adnah's daughter becomes the Queen of Judah. But in the prequel, you'll discover how Shebna and his brothers' broken hearts formed them very differently.
Of Heroes and Kings illustrates that only the greatest kings realize Yahweh creates true heroes. In this prequel to Of Fire and Lions (Waterbrook, 2019), meet Prince Nebuchadnezzar and his soon-to-be wife, Princess Amyitis. Discover why Daniel and his parents' lives are about to collide with Nebuchadnezzar when King Josiah involves Judah in a senseless war, and the centuries-old Assyrian Empire succumbs to the new world power-Babylon.

This was a great set of short stories that help set the tone for 3 of the author's books in the Prophets and Kings series. While I'd read all 3 of the stories before, it was great to get the author's additional notes and have them conveniently in 1 manuscript. Each story can easily be read in one sitting and sets the stage for the novel that follows. The first story tells the story of Isaiah's wife and the girl who grew up to marry King Ahaz, which sets the stage nicely for Isaiah's Daughter. The second tells the story of Shebna, who was integral in the story of both Isaiah's Daughter and Isaiah's Legacy. It also sets the stage for Shulle, the main female character in Isaiah's Legacy. The third story tells the stories of Daniel's parents and of Nebuchadnezzar's wife, which sets the stage for Of Fire and Lions. This compilation also includes notes from the author regarding her research and tying in these stories to the larger novels. It is not required to read this before reading the other books in order to understand them, but it does deepen the enjoyment of the larger stories. Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
This collection was so good and made me want to read each of the novels again. It was great to go back and learn the lives of characters as children. This wonderful collection compliments each novel. I love reading author’s notes and how they research for the books they write, especially Biblical Fiction. Since I have been following and reading Mrs. Andrews book’s for awhile I can appreciate how she “digs” into the Bible and does the research to make us readers even want to know, more than ever, about the Word of God. She gives us nuggets that maybe we haven’t ever thought about. If you have never read the Novels of The Prophets and Kings Series, numbers 1,2,3 you could get started by reading these short stories,so conveniently in one book. I want to especially thank the author for allowing me to read this ebook collection. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Have you ever read about a villain or another character and thought, “Ooo…I wonder what made them like that?” Well, If you’ve read “Isaiah’s Daughter,” “Isaiah’s Legacy” or “Of Fire And Lions,” by Mesu Andrews the author just gave us the chance to glimpse some of these people before they get to the full length novel. “Of Prophets and Kings” is a collection of three short stories that introduce major characters in those other books. And their backstories are really cool!
Each of the full length novels above have a prequel that introduces you to some of the characters and their background. The second prequel, “Adnah’s Legacy” was my favorite. It was sooo different and intriguing! I wish I could say more without giving away any spoilers, but let’s just say that this is a novella you won’t soon forget.
Before reading this collection, I had only read “Isaiah’s Legacy” and “Of Fire And Lions” from this series. After finishing “Of Prophets and Kings” I decided to go pick up “Isaiah’s Daughter” as my next read. Thank you, Mesu Andrews, for reminding me how interesting Old Testament novels can be!
I loved the history of the times in which this Prequel Collection took place. A very good read. I already read the books some time ago and stilled liked this info.
Fans of "Isaiah's Daughter," "Isaiah's Legacy," and "Of Fire and Lions" will love this prequel collection. Each story takes you into the background of on the characters of the novels and fills in some of the missing pieces. My particular favorite in the story of Shebna, the villain in "Isaiah's Daughter" and "Isaiah's Legacy." It's easy to picture a villain as always evil and twisted and never stop to ponder what in their life's journey led them there. Shebna's story shows how "hurt people hurt people" and that he had so many chances to make other choices. All three stories show Mesu Andrews' excellence in writing and world building.
I already did a review of these novellas separately, but this is the bind up that released this week for the Prophets and Kings series by Mesu Andrews. Even though I haven't yet read the original series (I will soon), this collection of novellas were great as standalones too and just made me more excited to get into this series.
These collections are a prequel into Mesu Andrew's books; Of Fire And Lions, Isaiah's Daughter and Isaiah's Legacy. I really enjoyed reading them because they gave a great background information into some of the characters and happenings in those books. There is no way one would read these collection and not look for the books themselves.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Prophets and Kings is so well-written to give us glimpses of the lives of people long ago in the Old Testament. It’s fiction, but has a Biblical base filled with the true people of the Bible. The stories are true too, although enhanced by the author. It’s obvious that Mesu Andrews thoroughly researches the people and culture of this time period in order to make the book as realistic as possible. Excellent writing!
Looking gored to all the books following these Prequels
This book of prequels has made me very eager to read each of the novels for every prequel. I love books that make me research the actual history behind the story. I have read the Bible many times and could easily look for the information and then looked at other resources as well. Truly makes the Bible come to life.
Such A Blessing to Have a Author care that we understand what we are reading !! We can read the Bible over An over but very hard to understand the Old Testament !!Wonderful addition !!
I enjoyed this prequel novella. It saddened me to see how many wrong choices led to destruction. How God’s people chose idols over trusting in the Lord.
I am excited to continue to dive into Mesu’s other novels. 4⭐️
I read the main books a while ago, so I’ve forgotten a lot that happens. Next time, I want to read these right before I read the big books :) love the prequels!
This book features several Prequels to the author's full length Biblical fiction novels. I loved reading her facts versus fiction/commentaries speculations, etc. Highly recommended!
