Tammi Sauer's The Underpants is a hilarious and irreverent homage to Jan Brett's The Mitten, in which Kitty discovers a "coat" in a farmer's fresh laundry pile. What if Jan Brett's The Mitten or The Hat were about a pair of underpants? If you like either of those classic Jan Brett books or if you have young people in your life who like any book with the word underpants in the title, you or they will enjoy this.

This book will be especially meaningful to those of us who, as either child or parent, found it edifying to dance around with a hat made out regular, ordinary, underpants.

Really, are our wonderful underpants wasted, covered up so much of the time?

In this picture book, Farmer's underpants become a toy. Kitty and her playful barnyard pals squeeze into their new "coat."

Among other things, who knew that underpants could be so good for rolling?

FIVE STARS for my favorite book that I've seen yet by Tammi Sauer.

this book is a bookk filled with silly, laughter, that turns into one simple idea, a pair of freshly washed underpants into a full on barnyard romp! the books goofy and repetitveness storytelling is designed to make the readers giggle and stay entertained. I read on publisher weekly that they describe it as a "riotous picture book " that will satisfy readers with its unbashed silliness. Bottom line this is a funny, and visually engaging picture book that will hit younger children, especially those who enjoy playful stories and quirky humor

Kitty pounces into the laundry basket and comes out wearing a coat that looks a lot like underpants. But she is convinced it is a coat. Of course, all the animal friends want to join in on the fun. How many animals can one small coat contain?

This would make a cute read-aloud for an underwear theme. Kids love underwear books. Or as a companion to The Mitten. Or even an "Ah-choo!" story time! Be sure to check under the dust jacket! I wonder if this will be nominated for an Undies award...

I received an electronic copy from Scholastic, Inc.
Cat finds a pair of underpants on top of the clean laundry pile and treats it like a coat. Plenty of humor as the rest of the farm animals get inside the "coat" too. In the end, the cat is the only one who keeps the coat and wears it in the house - much to the farmer's surprise.
Well done illustrations and a humorous story.

Kind of a silly book about a bunch of animals in the Farmer’s underpants and telling everyone it’s a coat. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I didn’t really think there was an specific lesson taught in this book, it’s just silly. It could help a kid learn animals so it was particularly good for my 2.5 YO.

With all the animals in the underpants, “It was a tighty-whitey fit.” 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Anything involving jokes about underpants is going to get kids laughing. If you're looking for a giggly read-aloud, this super silly story and its bug-eyed, vibrantly-hued cast of characters will certainly fit the bill.

Funny story that toddlers up to early elementary age kids will enjoy. Cat discovers a pair of underpants and thinks it is a coat. Other animals join her in sharing her " coat". Similar tale to the Mitten by Brett but with a modern take.

A new twist on the old tale, The Mitten. This time, the animals squish themselves into a pair of tighty-whitey underwear! Love the repetitive text and the bright colored illustrations! Will be a hit with the littles!

A very silly farm animal based version of the Mitten, using underpants instead. Cartoon style illustrations. Good for kids ages 4-7. Can there ever be too many underpants-themed stories?

It was funny, I get the connection to the Mitten, but I didn't like the illustrations. I didn't understand why the human was drawn with straight lines up top but really wavy lines on his legs.
