Though not unusual to have a marriage of convenience set before them, Cynthia wanted to choose for herself. Both tried to find out about the other without giving themselves away. Love can work miracles.
This is certainly a little different romance novel. Miss Cynthia Besser had found herself free of an arranged marriage due to the unexpected death from the plague of her betrothed. Just as she is beginning to enjoy her freedom, she is told that the brother of her betrothed will now become her husband. William Talbot, the second son of the Earl of Hervordshire, is in the United States fighting a war when he learns his brother has died and he must return home to England as he is now the next in line. Upon his arrival home, William learns now that the lady his brother was betrothed to has now become his wife. William has sent a letter to Cynthia's father that he plans a visit to meet Cynthia and discuss their plans of marriage. Upon hearing the news, Cynthia decides to run away from home in the hope of having this engagement called off. When William arrives at Cynthia's home, her family tries all sorts of excuses as to why she is not available. William decides to visit another area of England till he can meet with Cynthia. Thus the fun begins as these two meet each other, but are not aware of whom they are meeting since they are both using different names and occupations. It is a fun story with love finding a way to have a happy ending!!!
William is the second son and serving in the war in America. He is called home with news that his elder brother has died and he is now the heir. Upon his return he is told that his brother’s betrothed is now his. He is not happy but is duty bound. Cynthia never wanted to marry William’s brother whom she never met. She is shocked when she is told that he has died and now she will marry his brother. To escape this unwanted marriage she runs away. William comes up with a plan to get to know her in secret. Very interesting story that was a bit confusing at times but still sweet.
He was determine. What an interesting idea for a story one brother dies and now guess what you are engaged to the other brother who you do not know. This is what Cynthia faced and she is trying to figure out a way of it. Now on the other hand William is going out of his way to get Cynthia to fall in love with him. Cute story with wonderful run around that these two do. Entertaining and fun read I am happy to recommend it.
Oh, my! I hate historical errors in fiction...especially big ones. My eyebrows raised to my hairline when I read that the heroine's betrothed died of the plague! The plague... in Regency England?? Nope! Seriously, the author could have given him another malady, one that was historically accurate. At least she could have done a little research...and quickly found out that the plague didn't cut a swath through Regency England. Sheeeeesh! Hard pass!
Cynthia did not want to marry William as he was the replacement for his brother Stewart. William dish quiere his identity into Tom the groom and they fell in love The characters are determined and passionate A well written book
I loved the clever way William got to know Cynthia and made her fall in love with him. A wonderful story of promises made years ago and how two people were able to work things out.
Historically very inaccurate. No telegrams in 1813! Especially across the Atlantic ocean from England to the USA. Also, the second son of a Peer would have been a commissioned officer, not just a soldier. Couldn't get past the inaccurate writing.
A delightful story that has a bit of mystery to it and keeps you reading to find answers. You can relate to the characters' plight and feel pulled to their defense.
