I thought I had the perfect life. I was married to an amazing man, had two beautiful children, and lived in a three-story home with a million-dollar view. That all changed when I found out my family lied to me.

While waiting for my husband to come home for date night, I finished two bottles of Cabernet and watched a man fall from a building. Actually, I’m not sure what I saw because of the wine. But the next day, the news reported Errol Tiller, someone I sort of knew, had committed suicide by leaping from his balcony.

I tried to forget and move on, but the connections started immediately. One by one, I learned my family and best friend had lied to me about their ties to Errol, making me question whether it was suicide.

To make matters worse, the police had questions about what I may or may not have seen that evening. Did I see something more than Errol falling? I wish I could answer that question, but I’d drank a lot of wine that night.

There is one thing I know for sure. Everyone trusts me to keep their secrets, but I’m afraid I’ll have to turn on one of them.

The View from Nob Hill is a gripping read that will have you guessing from beginning to end. If you’re a fan of Frieda McFadden and Shari Lapena, you’ll love this page-turning thriller.

Very Peopley

After a few vinos, Jill takes a look through the telescope on their balcony - and sees a man fall from the apartments opposite. Was it the suicide of a man whose life is spiralling out of control, or was there sinister intent from the increasing number of people who he’d wronged? I didn’t guess the end, but it took a while to get there. Set in chapters from the PoV of Jill, her husband, their children, her friend, other apartment dwellers, the detectives on the case, it became a bit confusing towards the end. Still, a solid 3.5 rounded up

More twists than a roller coaster

I kept thinking that a picture snapped by the telescope would show what really happened. But the pictures mentioned led off in other directions. I kept worrying about the dog and hoped the author didn't $orget to tie up that loose end. But the author had all loose ends neatly tied up by the very end of the book.

I liked this book. It had lots of twists and turns, and it had my attention the whole time. This is the first book I've ever read from Ty Hutchinson, and I enjoyed it. The ending was kind of predictable, but it was still a fun read.

Currently about 64% through the book. Too many points of view to read through, and some of the language used feels like a teenage boy writing. A lot of the characters feel really far fetched, like everyone had some bizarre secret behind them.

At this point, I don't care who did or didn't do it. I'm really close to making this a DNF, but we'll see.

Edit: are Peeping Toms being pushed on us? Can't tell you how many times it's said that it's illegal in this book. 🙄

Sorry to say, a truly awful book. Poorly written, convoluted, repetitive. And the most unforgivable is that the “mystery” was solved by the culprit explaining, in the final chapter, how he had done it and why. The why being revenge for something that had been done to a character that we were only introduced to in this ludicrous recounting of the murder.

This was a total disappointment to me. I closed the book after a half an hour. Predictable and boring. Written on about an 8th grade level.

It all starts with a look through the telescope. Did she really see what she thought she did? This is the story of finding out the truth behind the telescope and what she saw, and what really went down. This book will give you great details all the way up to the end.

1.5 maybe 2? There was one part early on in the book that was really interesting! But other than that.. it wasn’t for me.

Oh well.. onto my next mystery/thriller until this itch has been scratched!!

It Always Feels Like Somebody's Watching You

The View From Nob Hill is more of a cross between a mystery and a horror story than a psychological thriller. There is an underlying wrongness about the plot.

Ty Hutchinson does a good job writing the book. There are plenty of conflicting plotlines keeping your eye off the guilty party until all is revealed in the end.

What I didn't care for was the cavalier attitude with which the subject matter was treated. I'm not a prude, however, in this age of violence against women, it makes me sad to read a book where any parent condones behaviors such as the ones in The View From Nob Hill.

That being said, scandalous behavior sells plenty of books. And the actions of the characters in Nob Hill made for a shocking ending. I guess that's the point of a psychological thriller.

This one will have you guessing!

What do you do when you’ve had 2 bottles of wine and see someone fall off their balcony in a high rise across from you while looking through your husbands telescope? Add to this both her and her husband like to watch people going about their home life. This one is a wild ride and not a dull moment in the entire book!

Nob Hill Watchers

This was an okay book. Do you know what your neighbors are doing? Nob Hill had a hot bed of peepers watching their neighbors. A man no one really likes falls from a balcony and dies. Was it suicide or did someone push him? There are a lot of suspects…. The ending had a twist I never expected. Getting to the twist took some perseverance not to skip to the end.

Jill is mother to teens Ollie and Mia and wife to Alan. They live in beautiful house on Nob Hill. Ollie and Mia are both away on sleepovers and Alan is working late. Bored, Jill sips at wine and then before she knows it she has drunk almost 2 bottles of wine. She goes to their bedroom balcony to do some peeping at long distance neighbors with the Alan's telescope. The telescope is focused on a tall high rise and as she is ogling through the various windows, she sees a blur go past her eyes - something falling from one of the top floors! Was that really what she saw or is she just drunk?

She confesses to Alan the next morning and he thinks it was the wine. But then the news comes on and there is a report that Errol Tiller, owner of a PR/advertising firm, had fallen to his death from his high rise apartment the night before. Did Jill see his death?

Meanwhile, Jill also caught her son taking still photos of a woman in another apartment. His camera set on a timer to take the photos continuously. Apparently Alan (and Jill?) in their earlier lives, liked to peep. And it's one of the things that brought them together. She worries that Ollie has that same predisposition - is it inheritable?

She has a best friend who lives in the high rise and had connection to Errol.

This was intriguing but it felt like things resolved almost too easily. Very little suspense. And it seemed the police weren't really sure if it was suicide, accident or murder.

TY HUTCHINSON’S “THE VIEW from NOB HILL” has you chasing back and forth and back again on the WHOM COULD HAVE DONE IT!
From one building you can see all and tell all! From one house to the building you can see, show and tell. The central characters of the tomb are blended and balanced so well! This is a well woven tale from all parties, and each has a say as to how the SFPD dealt with the investigation and from there you could calculate their next move by the Detectives actions!
TY, has woven a cast that has secrets that are parlayed one by one and hides the true perpetrator until the final scene! The back and forth includes all but one character and that you will find is the MASTERMIND, or is there another that KNOWS, yet does not take the MASK OFF THE LONE RANGER in this who done it!
You feel the closeness of the relationships with all the characters in the book except for Mr. Tillers, the scoundrel that certainly seems to have it all coming to him as the layers are peeled back as you turn each page! The dropping of hints into the character of each is like breadcrumbs to Grandmas house. They can be subtle, or TY can give you the facts in a way that only his WRITING lets you IN!
IF you are Ty Hutchinson fans, like I am, you will enjoy from page one until last this fast-reading new avenue of enjoyment in “THE VIEW from NOB HILL!” HAVING READ ALL OF HIS BOOKS, THIS IS ANOTHER IN A LONG LIST OF “KEEPERS” so enjoy this book and know that your secrets are safe on NOB HILL!

A new direction for Hutchinson

I'm a fan. Through Abby Kane and As I and Sterling Gray, I've been following characters in his world's for years. This one is differemt.

There is some minimal continuity - his SFPD Detective Sokolov has shown up in other books, and he displays a working knowledge of the city of San Francisco and it's neighborhoods - but that's it.

Instead, this is a twisty mystery, enhanced by a stylistic twist. Except for that detective, everything is written in first person. That can be disconcerting at first, because the book shifts from narrator to narrator, and the cha he from chapter to chapter isn't especially obvious. So each chapter is not only mumbered, but named. Once you've pulled that detail, racing is easier.

Having seen some poor examples of this format, Hutchinson did a fine job of switching points of view. As for the story line itself, well, that is why you might want too big this one. No spoilers here, but you won't see the ending coming. Well done!

This is not a good book and, to top it off, it's written at a really simplistic level. Chapters are super-short, character motivations are paper thin, and the dialogue is basic. It's not really hard to write a thriller when you give everyone implausible connections and have characters hide key actions from the reader in their internal dialogues. In this book, a man goes off a balcony and the police are trying to determine if it was murder or suicide. By the end of the book, we've found out that he's sleeping with at least three women in his building, regularly sexually assaulting another child in the building, has sexually harassed another character, and is generally just wrecking his way through life. I mean, anyone can create drama in a situation like that - I'm so tired of thriller authors that think just creating a "surprise" -- no matter how ridiculous -- is the same thing as creating a good plot.

This murder mystery just breaks the rules of the genre, but in an awful way not it an Agatha Christie kind of way. The author chose to lean heavily on first person narrative and divulge the internal thoughts of all the characters in the book (except for the detectives, which were awkwardly written in third person). Throughout the story, we see the internal thoughts of those who conspired in the murder without knowing they are guilty. When the truth is revealed at the end, there are many inconsistencies in their thought patterns. Though I originally found it somewhat gripping, it was an extremely disappointing ending.

The View From Nob Hill was the second Ty Hutchinson book I have read in 2024 and unfortunately, neither were overly for me. This story focused on Jill and her family; all of whom were some way connected to a man who fell to his death in a neighbouring apartment block. Chapters were from varying characters’ perspectives, but rather than focusing on the key characters, there were far too many perspectives. Plot twists came out of the blue and were completely at odds with what was known about the characters. All in all, a very weak plot with revelations that were supposed to shock the reader, but were instead so outlandish they were comical.

The View From Nob Hill is a fascinating puzzle - everyone is demeed a suspect until the case is ruled as suicide. But was it really a suicide? As the leads keep on turning many possible culprits and the stories are intertwined who will be held responsible? This is one of those stories that grab your interest from the beginning and you just won't be able to put it down.
I thank Mr. Hutchinson for the free copy of this book.

kept me guessing until the end

Very enjoyable book with lots of twists and turns. I liked the diversity of the characters, especially the detectives. I had few ideas as to who was responsible for the dirty deed but couldn’t tie it all together until the end.
It was an easy read and a fast page turner.
Made a pleasant change from the usual thriller genre where the main characters are generally the investigators.

in the back of my mind, I wondered if it could possibly be whom I suspected. It was just sort of a niggling thought. I mean, it could have been suicide, right? But the complexity of the plan was totally unexpected. And the role playing was unbelievable. What was totally unexpected was the epilogue. In light of the truth, some of the characters' actions don't quite ring true. but oh, well, it was an interesting read.

Interesting and thrilling

Wow, what a scenario and how many randy women live in or near that building. But the ending is world class, just like the endings in the Ben Porter series False Assurances, Threat
Bias, Subversive Addiction, Vital Deception and I can’t wait to read the new one in the series Epic Injustice!

First book by this author I have read and I will absolutely read more! This book had me guessing g from the start to finish - did Errol fall from his building on Nob Hill or was he thrown off? Allie is drinking that night and thinks she saw the fall, but when friends and family secrets come out, and people are accused of murder, the plot thickens! Loved it including the surprise ending

An interesting story with all kinds of twists and turns. A man falls from his balcony and the police initially rule it a suicide. But two intrepid detectives start investigating and find some remarkably interesting suspects only to determine that all have iron-clad alibis. There is a real killer, but you'll never believe who it is until the end.

Did the victim die by suicide or murder? Told from different views of the characters in the book, it kept me wondering. It seems like each one has something to hide from their past that could implicate them. I enjoyed this book. Lots of plot turns, interesting characters, and a good police procedural also.

One of the worst books I've read in a long time. The writing was so juvenile, it was as if a 14-year-old wrote it. I skimmed the second half of the book to find out "who done it", even though I really didn't care. The characters were so outlandishly unbelievable, and the dialog was completely contrived. Such a waste of an afternoon.

Downloaded by mistake

I try to avoid American writers because in my experience they are usually poor. However, having down loaded it I read it and for the most it wasn't as bad as expected. I found it resonably gripping although I had guessed the culprit quite early.
I wouldn't read anything else by this writer.

Murder or suicide? So many people involved!
Dominatrix, Dog Walker, Building Manager, Son, Daughter, Drug Dealer and or Wife! Is one guilty? Is anyone guilty? Very interesting story with a very satisfying twist. A very good read.

Anything by Ty Hutchinson is great! This is a good physiological thriller and I never saw the ending coming. I wish it would've wrapped up with a bit more confrontation but all in all I really enjoyed the tangle and complexity of "whodunit"
