This short biography contains highlights of funnyman Bob Hope's life (mostly his career in show biz). It reads a bit like a high school book report and seems to concentrate on the highlights rather than giving personal details. The font is very large - which is probably preferable for readers with limited vision, but a bit annoying to me. I'm glad I read it, but wish it had alot more details about his personal life (childhood) and the people he interacted with (movie stars, agents, etc.).

As a long-time Bob Hope fan, I enjoyed this book because it told his story, warts and all. It started with Bob's early life and helped explain why he couldn't change from his earlier career's comedic, leading man roles. However, his early near-poverty ingrained in him the idea to stick with what worked (so he could keep working).
Over the years, there were whispers that Bob Hope fiddled with the lovely ladies who accompanied him on USO tours of the troops. So it was refreshing to see someone would finally admit that Bob had a roving eye.
Because of the shortness of this book, it wasn't possible to include all of Bob's achievements. However, the author covered Bob's early radio, films, family life, etc. I was stunned by the rude comments between Bob and Bing Crosby. I need to rewatch some of the Road to films to listen more carefully to their banter.
The relationship between Hope and Westmoreland during the Vietnam War helped me understand his attitude and comments.
I grew up watching Bob Hope, and this book combined so much of the man in one resource. Was it profoundly probing? No. However, the book was entertaining and insightful about his wife and what made Hope tick.

Bob Hope Made me Laugh in 1969 while I was stationed in Vietnam
While I was reading this book, I felt like I was viewing an old photograph album of my life as a young teenager. I vividly remember in the 1960's, waking up on Saturday mornings, turning on my black & white TV and eagerly watching reruns of Bob Hopes "Road Movies" (Road Rio, Rode to Singapore, and Road to Morocco to name a few.) Great memories of a legendary entertainer... Especially, since I was at that time, living in Hollywood, California as a 13 year teenager walking on the Stars of Hollywood Blvd.

I learned quite a bit about Bob Hope in this short biography. I was very surprised to learn of his accident which lead to facial reconstructive surgery and that is how Bob got his iconic profile. I remember in the 70's hearing over and over that Bob Hope was one of the richest men in Hollywood and I'm not sure now if that was true or not but either way it was not mentioned in this book. My first thought that comes to mind when I think of Bob Hope is how he faithfully entertained our troops for many years. They don't make them like that anymore.

I have sympathy for Bob Hope’s early years in poverty. He was ambitious and did what he could to survive and help out his large family when he was young. But it’s terrible that he wasn’t faithful to his wife who ignored his straying and then to destroy the career of a woman with whom he had an affair. Though I admire his devotion to entertaining the troops. This was an interesting short 43-page bio of a complicated man.

Thanks for the Memories
Bob Hope, a true legend! I remember watching a few of his ROAD movies with Bing Crosby. They were all
quite funny. I also remember hearing about and seeing some of his USO shows. What an entertainer. He’s been fine for almost twenty years now but I’m certain he’ll be remembered for many more years to come.

I enjoyed reading about this larger than life icon whose career spanned almost eighty years. He was in vaudeville, Broadway, radio, movies and television. He had excellent comedic timing. The book reveals that he was not comfortable showing his vulnerable side. I also feel that at times his characters appeared to be two dimensional. I was surprised to learn that he was a skirt chaser!

Insightful short book on the legendary Mr. Bob Hope. Sometimes you need a short, informative read after reading a long book, so this one fitted the bill. These hourly histories reads are perfect to relax and enjoy a quick read at the coffee shop or doing a thread mill workout.

interesting but short
A very short look into the life of one of America’s favorite entertainers. I feel it falls short of what a story about Bob Hope’s life & achievements should be.

One of the nice things about these books is they give a wonderful interesting synopsis of a life [or event] that can satisfy the reader or interest him to do further reading. Always informative, always interesting, and always worth the read.

Hope
I have been a fan of Bob Hope for many years. I only knew of the comedian not the man. So in reading this it was interesting to find out more about the man behind the laughter. May not of shared his political views, but he was still funny to watch.

Too short
What did I like: I generally enjoyed reading about the life of Bob Hope, a great entertainer.
What I didn't like: this book was way too brief and could have used more details

Bob Hope was a treasure!
I enjoyed this concise, honest account of his life- including some racy tidbits and disclosures about negativity, not just his humor. I remember watching some of his shows and movies, and they were quite entertaining. One of a kind👍

Nice
A nice vignette about Bob Hope's life. It is short but covers Mr. Hopes life in a clear and dignified way.

A great entertainer. He seemed to have a good heart. Maybe more loyalty to his wife would have been nice.
