Now in control of a court, Faye allows those without magic entry, offering protection and sanctuary from those who possess it.
But when her actions infuriate the old houses in Necromia, Faye is determined to rule without bloodshed and protect her people from the immortals who view the realm of Anaria as it has always been —the peasant lands.
As tensions build, the Court of Lace and Bone, led by a sadistic dark-blooded queen named Delilah, openly challenges Faye. Delilah targets her court, vowing to extinguish the source of Anaria's hope beneath the sole of her boot.
When Delilah’s calculated strikes grow increasingly more vicious and personal, Faye will be forced to make a choice.
Become the thing she fears the most or lose her crown, her family, and herself.
OMG!!!!! This book was simply fangtastic!!!! I didn't read any reviews for this book because I wanted to experience this organically and I'm so glad I did!!!! The first book Invoking The Blood was friggin amazing but A Trail of Lace and bone exceed my wildest dreams!!!! The angst and painful at times chapters drew real ugly crying from me and had me asking myself how Kalista could have me laughing one minute and emotional as fuck the next!!!! Honestly what was she thinking! She's a amazing writer who knows how to not only get your attention but keep it! This is over 600 pages but with a steady pace and excellent storytelling and such amazing and unique characters it goes quickly! Watching Faye struggle with fear and the nightmares after what Alister did to her was totally heartbreaking!!! I've always loved this strong woman and to see her weakened pissed me off!! I agreed more then once with Voshki about taking care of this prick!!! I know what Rune did to his beloved Prinia was awful but to take it out on Faye, I call bullshit!!! And even after what he did she still wanted to help Prinia!! I'm still #Team Voshki because he's such a savage sexy beast! Theirs nothing noble or sweet about him but damn!!! If he isn't the type to burn the world down for Faye!!! I will say Rune is stead fast and security and you'll always know he's in your corner and his old world charm and attention to detail and taking care of his woman get a gold star and in this book he showed his vampiric nature during the hunters moon!! Now this Rune blows Voshki out of the water!!! And when Faye decides to play a game of catch me if you can it gets all kinds of steamy!!!! I didn't know pretty boy vamp could go all down and fucking dirty!!! But I liked it!!! This was primal fucking all the way!! Its no wonder Faye ended knock up!! Can you image this double team!!!! But their was also a great loss as well and had me crying my ass off. And seeing Rune dealing with his past and the things he endured broke my heart even more ! Man or woman makes no difference a violation is a violation and it never goes away, you can only hope that the memories fade with time. Someone wasn't thinking when they fucked with the new Queen of the Court of Chaos and Darkness, and Ruler of Anaria but their about to find out what happens when you fuck with those she loves!!! She wanted her reign to be peaceful but theirs always a asshole that wants their ass handed to them and Faye did it!! Tears yes but also some funny as shit moments too! Faye's sister Sparrow is a mouthy harpy with balls of steel and quick wit who's always good for a laugh!! Weither she's giving nick names like Runey or fang daddy to one of the most feared vampires to becoming the aunt from hell to her sister Faye's children or driving one of the best boyfriends in the world Vashien crazy its all in the days work for this firecracker! God help Vashien he'll never know a peaceful moment. Can't wait for the next book in this series!! We're gonna have a wedding!!! Until next time Luv's 💕💋
Okay I’m so excited to have just gotten the ARC copy!!!! I’m gonna write some thoughts every now and then and just continue to add to the review the further I get.
Okay I’m about 25% through already and it’s only been about an hour or so… I’ve been preparing for the late night cause I don’t think I’m gonna sleep till I’ve finished this book!
I’m at 48% right now and it’s so good. “She loves us, you polished fool.” “This is the first day of your reign. You cannot afford to show weakness.”
68% So many questions that I need the answers to asap! I can’t wait! “I’m going to bite you every time you call them young,” Faye said, crossing the threshold.
100%!!!!! Well it only took me around 4 hours but I’m finally finished! I loved every second of this, I only cried once but there was some other times where I almost did. I’m happy and sad for me to finish this quickly but I think I’m gonna start a reread next week! I’m so glad how it ended but excited to read more!!
Ah! I was lucky enough to beta read and be an arc reader for this book and I am SO excited it’s out in the world!
Faye, Rune, and Voshki return to us A Trial of Lace and Bone by Kalista Neith and it is a WILD ride! Let me preface this review by stating I was SO sick when I was reading this so my review may not be as thorough as I would like because (mucus brain.)
The first section of the book centers around court politics and establishing Faye’s rule as the Queen of Chaos and Darkness. Faye truly believes ruling the “right way” can be done and she refuses to engage in dark blood tactics just because it’s how it has always “been done.” What we learn is that even though Faye has a genuine goal, Necromia and Delilah the Queen of Lace and Bone will never allow her to rule how she wants. They will take and take until she has nothing left. What will faye do when being the “good” ruler gets her nowhere but heartbroken?
Rune and Voshki learn to work together more in this book and that is a welcomed addition! I loved seeing the dynamic of Rune coming to terms with his bloodlust and am excited to see how this continues to evolve.
CW: pregnancy TW: death, SA/R (historical)
Plot twists happen that I never saw coming. Plot twists I thought could happen didnt. Kalista really kept me on my toes.
What could have made this a 5 ⭐️ read for me was more 🌶️ (sorry I know I’m basic) and for the second half of the book to be expanded while the court politics in the first section shortened. Especially seeing as how the book ended, I would have loved to have more of that action earlier in the book! I am an action girlie through and through though so that may be part of it.
What I loved: Sadi and Faye’s journey with the Hall of Eyes. We get a bit of it in book one but ATOLAB brought us more mystery, riddles, and ultimately heartbreak in these sections and I ate it up! The cross over with a *special book not to be spoiled. And last, a character reference to one of my fav authors, you know who you are!
Well done, Kalista on another masterpiece! Can’t wait for book 3!!!
I have waited what feels like forever to dive back into Faye and Rune’s story. After the first book I was impatiently counting down the days. The spice was just as good if not better than the first book. The character of Delilah was created beautifully and I found it was easy to dislike her. The touch her/him and you die vibe is everything I live for! I wouldn’t want to mess with Faye but Faye mama bear mode is will haunt me. Delilah deserved everything she got. She should have suffered more to be honest.

This is the second book in the Of Chaos and Darkness series, a dark vampire x human fantasy romance. Tropes and themes include vampires, undiscovered magic, fated mates, trauma/hurt/comfort, and a Shadow daddy. As this is a dark, and spicy, book, please pay close attention to content warnings.
The Lovely: Yep, still love the main characters. They all go through a lot in this book and also change and grow and develop. It’s angsty and emotional, but also loving and sweet. And sometimes funny. They’re beautiful together and have quickly become #relationshipgoals. I think the play between Voshki and Rune is interesting and as I’ve come to understand the situation better, the more I love it.
Also Lovely: So much happens in this story, right up to the bitter end. There’s not a cliffinhanger but it did end pretty suddenly. Like, I was really worried there *was* going to be a cliff (but I know the author doesn’t do cliffs). It’s a wild ride that I loved.
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Recommendation: This series has stolen my heart completely. I love Faye, Rune and Voshki together and their interactions. It gives me all the sweet warm fuzzies. I can’t wait to read more of this series and the author.
I’m so excited to be doing my second ARC read for Kalista’s new book A Trial of Lace And Bone! I can’t wait for the physical copy to come out, I’ll definitely be ordering it.
The story completely sucked me in. I couldn’t put the book down. I pretty much binge read the book in one setting which is something I haven’t done in a very long time.
I know that Kalista is a first time author and that this will be her second book that she would be releasing. You can see how much her writing has improved from the first book to the second book. I always loved seeing the author’s growth in their books.
I will continue to forever say that Rune is my #1 book boyfriend and nothing would ever change that. I LOVE HIME TOO MUCH!
Overall, this was an amazing read and I would recommend it to my friends to read it!
I was lucky to receive an ARC and this is a thrilling continuation to the first book.
Faye and Rune navigate their relationship and are so in love. Really, it’s sickening how much they love each other ☺️. Faye is learning the ways of being a queen and having a court. She struggles to maintain her previous beliefs while also being thrust into a violent world. She slowly realizes that peace and kindness does not win her safety and she must accept that she has new darker tendencies that she needs to embrace.
There is a list of trigger warnings at the start of the book. Please be mindful of them and read through them if you believe you may have a trigger. Some include: male SA, pregnancy and child birth, and death. Please check the full list prior to reading.
I cannot wait for the third installment of this series. I am so excited to see Faye in her villain era and how her and Rune will rule.

I loved the first half, the second saw the arrival of my least favourite trope, but because I love this world I pushed through. The writing is fantastic with so many turns. I loved seeing the relationships deepen and I liked how some of the side characters from the fist book took on bigger roles. Looking forward to the next one ;)
I wish I was better with words because I feel like I’m not doing this book justice. Invoking the blood was AMAZING and I thought it couldn’t get any better and boy did Kalista prove me wrong. I will never get tired of recommending this series to friends. It has fated mates, powers, touch her and die, vampires, and a badass FMC that I absolutely love, and Hades and Persephone vibes. My love for Rune/Voshki grew even more. And boy were there certain scenes that were 🥵🥵🥵 like can someone call the firefighters because it’s 🔥🔥🥵🥵 As always Rune and Sparrows banter had me rolling lol I loved how Faye tried to rule her own way (won’t go until detail because no spoilers) and how she was just a badass. Don’t get me started on Rune/Voshki because I could go on and on as to why I love him. Let me just say that I love that wild side he never shows anyone 🥵😏😉 Delilah got what she deserved. Didn’t like her as soon as I was introduced to her.
Kalista done it again! I loved this book. Omg the emotions it brought out! Faye character development in this book had me shouting let's go girl!!!!!! The spice was spiiccccccing!!! It was action packed! Sparrow was still her with her craziness. She introduces you to a lot more characters so be prepared. Rune and voshnik had me wanting to put them both in time out. Haha ready for book 3.
Sometimes you just know when you’ve found something special. Something that the universe brought to you for a reason. And I know that sounds cheesy, but I really do feel like Kalista has given her readers something that will stick with us for a long time. I came across Invoking the Blood by chance and having the opportunity to see this world grow with A Trial of Lace and Bone has been incredible. Kalista has outdone herself with this sequel and I’m equal parts so happy to have finally read this (I’m not even joking when I say that I’ve been checking my email and this Goodreads page for info at least three times a week) and angry because how dare you make me wait for book three oh my god this is evil.
“Death will come for me, but not today.”
It’s hard to explain much of why I love this book without spoilers, but I’ll give it a shot. There were so many threads started in book one that were pulled on and woven into a deeper story with A Trial of Lace and Bone. We get to see Faye learning how to rule, how to be a Queen, how to take care of her court and her people. She tries to hard to be better than the others and I love seeing her fight tooth and nail to rule the way she wants to. There’s magic, training, growth, and struggle, and I love that Faye is growing so much with each book. Sure, she was great in the first one, but she’s stepping into her new world and becoming such an incredible character. I really love seeing that she’s not having an easy time with things because it makes me feel like she’s so much more real.
As far as characters go, buckle up because we have so many! But honestly they’re all integral to the plot so I’m not even mad about it. Plus, they all have unique voices that they’re super easy to distinguish and remember who is who. I mentioned Faye and her development above but we also get some more on Rune in this book and oh my goodness my sweet broody goofy accented vampire. Just when I thought I couldn’t love him more, here we go getting backstory on Rune. He is also learning how to not be so dark and scary and watching him do and say things that seem so normal made me absolutely crack up at the imagery! No spoilers but domestic Faye and Rune are perfection. And I still adore Voshki, but that’s not a surprise at all. Seeing more of him and Rune trying to coexist in the same body has been so great, especially when we get more backstory and development with their own relationship. I may also kind of like Sadi but I will not elaborate further 😂
I can’t review this without mentioning the world of Chaos. I’ll be quick but I just have to mention how absolutely terrifying it was to read about. But honestly, that’s what made me love it. There are so many settings throughout this book and the world gets expanded on quite a bit, but Chaos might be my favorite part. Im also a sucker for court politics and this book has that in spades, oh man. Give me all of the juicy and bloody court drama!
Oh and obviously there is spice. Is it good spice? Abso-freaking-loutely it is! Just another way of seeing Rune, Voshki, and Faye develop their relationship. And boy oh boy does it develop with this book. If you know, then you know!
You can also see such a difference in Kalista’s writing between books one and two, and I mean that in the most positive way possibly! There’s a lot going on in this book and there’s so much information to take in, but it’s delivered in a way that never feels overwhelming or like it’s too much. I just feel like there’s a lot of growth in the way the words flow and it makes it very easy to just sit down and read large chunks of the book at a time, which is always a good thing to me.
A Trial of Lace and Bone is an excellent example of how you write a sequel. With an expanded fantastical world, amazing character progression, and an absolutely addictive storyline, this is the best way to continue a series that I could have imagined!
This book is much spicier, much darker than the first book, so you’ve been warned. If you’re unfamiliar with Kalista Neith, head on over to her author page and get familiar with her content warning page to see if this is the book for you. There’s a lot of past trauma that comes up, things Rune would rather not remember, and it’s not for the faint of heart. You’ve been warned.
ATOLAB is a slow build; a big chunk of this book is Faye trying to decide what kind of court she wants to create, what kind of queen she wants to be to her people. The thing about Faye is that she’s an idealist. (Having spoken to the author, this is coming from her lips) she just wants peace between the courts and doesn’t want to tap into that dark side of her magic, the part where her instincts tell her to destroy anyone who wants to take her court down. She’s also a dreamer. She longs for Anarians to be free from under the thumbs of Dark Bloods. So she shows mercy to those who’ve wronged her and her people. But there’s only so far mercy goes before you have to get your hands a little dirty.
One of my favorite things about this book was seeing a huge character development between Rune and Voshki. You have two very different, warring personalities forced to share a body; things are strained between the two. But Faye comes in and she affects them in a way where they both realize they don’t have to hate each other, that they can work together to live cohesively and both love Faye completely. It’s a rather interesting throuple, to say the least. But finally seeing Rune take that artistocratic stick out of his butt was the highlight of my day. Man finally learns to just be chill.
I was even surprised to see Lyssa wasn’t completely horrible, there’s an uneasy peace between the queens. Probably because there’s a common threat between Faye and Lyssa. There’s a complexity to her that we will probably never learn, but she does make peace with Faye and Rune.
Delilah is the new thorn in Faye’s side, but the way she goes about sowing fear and distrust amongst other courts is just something else. She knows how to get other people to do her dirty work without even lifting a finger. Faye saves several of her people from two separate courts, but she makes one fatal mistake: she doesn’t check any of them for beacons. It’s talked about in the first book, but she never checks to make sure none of the people she saved couldn’t be used as puppets later on.
Rune has trauma, massive amounts of it. Something happens and his trauma resurfaces, causing him to pull away from Faye. Sounds, smells, words cause him to panic, thinking he’s back in Sadira’s court where he was abused for 137 years. It’s during this trauma resurgence that Voshki steps up and helps Rune work through his trauma to become a better mate to Faye. This is where they start to form an uneasy friendship that turns into profound respect for the other. It was pure joy to see Rune call Voshki “him” instead of “it” or “creature”.
You will cry over one very unexpected death. It’ll hit you hard and leave you breathless. I cried my eyes out because it didn’t seem fair. But I think it was needed to motivate Faye to realize her full potential and just how much mercy to give before it’s time to take drastic measures.
There are parts of this book I loved. There were parts of this book that made me ugly snot cry. And then there were parts that made my blood boil and caused my body to shake I was so angry and full of rage. One part made my stomach turn and I almost threw up. I think it takes a certain kind of talent to illicit such emotions from readers. Talent that Kalista Neith has in spades.
And lastly…..I really miss my darling Voshki.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. This honest review was based off my experience reading this eARC, which in no way biased me. All opinions are my own.
MY BABIES HAVE RETURNED TO ME.
Alright, I have regained my composure. Let’s get into it.
A Trial of Lace and Bone picks up right where Invoking the Blood leaves off and wow did I miss Voshki and the gang. As I said in my review of the first book, I stand by what I said previously, Voshki never having done a wrong thing in his life, and continues to be my favorite. I will say, no one was more shocked than me when I started realizing I think I am a Sadi stan? And like I always enjoyed Rune, what can I say? I am a sucker for a grumpy vampire.
Like let me paint a picture of the vibe, we all know and love The Vampire Diaries, well we have a Kathrine and Elena situation. And I mean that in like a good way? Like Faye is much better than Elena, but that’s the vibe. I will say that this whole vibe did not hit me in the face until this book, but now that I see it, I would say it makes it more enjoyable because I did like seeing the reasoning behind Elena/Kathrine, and I am interested in Faye/Sadi.
Anyway back to the review. What I wanted more of in book 1, we got here. There was much more magic involved and training, (I am still very patiently waiting to learn the origins of this magic because it gets so much more complex).
Seeing Faye’s character develop through the course of this book was quite something. Seeing as she wanted to rule her court differently, but sometimes the answer to fire is fire, and that was a lesson she learned here. I am very intrigued to see where this leads us into book 3.
Rune, Runey, my baby. Oh boy, we got quite a bit of back story for him and all of it made me wanna hug him. Seeing Runey and Voshki interact is some of my favorite scenes and and after centuries they are actually starting to have a friendship? The best way I can explain Rune and Voshki is like an Eddie/Venom situation, and honestly I like this better. But anyway, the depth of his character was definitely expanded on and seeing his journey from being enslaved and abused and how even though its been years, he is still healing from this, and being able to depend on Faye and Voshki to help him just made me very emo.
Oh my god, Sadi. Oh my sweet baby angel demon. You know what I support women’s rights but more importantly I support women’s wrongs. We get more of Sadi, and while we get about half of it through the lens of Faye who dubbed her “her evil twin” and so we have a bias against her, the other half we get through Rune’s POV and she has been a long time loyal friend. We get to see more past her tough exterior and I think she is one of the most interesting and complex characters of the entire series. I hope we get to see more of her.
The only thing I have to say is the pacing felt a bit slow in parts, and very fast in other parts. Slow when you would want to go fast, and fast when you would want to go slow. I also couldn’t get a grip on how much time passed in this book there were times that weeks or months were jumped over. I will say I cannot get enough of domestic RuneFaye.
Overall a great time, 4.5 stars. If you’re into hades/Persephone vibes but make it vampirey and more magical definitely give book 1 Invoking the Blood a shot, perfect timing to read it because, this one comes out on July 11th!
Deeper dive into the politics of the realms and reckoning with old power systems.
Thank you for letting me be apart of the ARC team yet again! I am so happy to be back in this universe and learning more about the fate of Faye and her court.
4/5⭐️ 2.5/5🌶️
Tropes, triggers, etc.: Magic lessons Touch her and I'll unalive you Court intrigue Found family Vampires Fated Mates Nightmares/comfort SA of MMC Trauma and healing Kidnapping Violence/Death Bl00d
This second installment jumped in where the first book left off. Faye navigating her new court and seeking to protect the little guys. I really enjoyed watching her grow into a competent leader and taking advice from others, while still standing up for what she believes leaders should be for their people.
Court intrigue has been something I've been CRAVING in books recently and this was just enough. The balance between character development and world building was well done and I am very excited to see more into the world has this series develops.
The area I enjoyed the most was the development of Rune/Voshki. Their internal relationship was such a great addition and strengthened the plot. Learning more about Rune's past and trauma was so tough to read, but I loved how Voshki was a coping mechanism for him to deal with his healing. It is so hard for survivors to find ways to separate the trauma (event) from who they are as a person and Kalista did an excellent job of navigating this sensitive topic. Bravo!
Unrelated, but can I just wrap Damien up in a fluffy blanket? He needs some serious cuddles.
I personally struggled with some of the pacing throughout the book. Some points felt a bit too drawn out and other points felt much too fast. Some of the conflict/resolutions occurred within the same chapter or within pages and could have been drawn out to illicit a deeper emotional response. But that's just me!
All in all, a great book two! If you enjoyed Invoking the Blood, A Trial of Lace and Bone will suck you into the world again!
"A Trial of Lace and Bone" takes readers on an exhilarating journey through a world of dark magic and complex relationships. Kalista Neith continues to captivate with her vivid storytelling and compelling characters, delivering a sequel that pushes the boundaries of the series.
The book picks up where the first installment left off, immersing us once again in the trials and tribulations of Faye and Rune. Neith's writing style remains engaging and atmospheric, drawing readers into a world filled with political intrigue and hidden dangers. The pacing is well-balanced, with moments of intense action juxtaposed against quieter, introspective scenes that allow for character development.
Speaking of characters, Neith excels in crafting multidimensional protagonists. Faye's evolution as a ruler is a central focus, and witnessing her struggles with imposter syndrome and the weight of responsibility is both relatable and compelling. Rune's journey through trauma and healing is masterfully depicted, and his complex relationship with Voshki adds layers of depth to his character.
The author expertly weaves together various plot threads, creating a tapestry of conflicts and alliances that keeps readers guessing. The introduction of Deililah and her challenge to Faye adds an extra layer of tension and raises the stakes for our heroes. The dark and gritty nature of the story is skillfully portrayed, immersing readers in a world where danger lurks at every turn.
While the book delivers a satisfying and intense experience, there were a few instances where the pacing felt slightly uneven. Some sections could have benefited from a tighter focus, as they seemed to drag on a bit longer than necessary. However, these moments were ultimately overshadowed by the overall gripping narrative.
In conclusion, "A Trial of Lace and Bone" is a worthy follow-up that expands the world and deepens the characters introduced in the first book. Kalista Neith's talent for storytelling shines through as she masterfully navigates the complexities of power, trauma, and redemption. This dark fantasy adventure will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
This second installment sends us into their world and how it works. And I love it for that. We saw Faye's struggle with herself, opening her eyes to the truth that she couldn't admit to herself. We saw Rune in a different light as well as Voshki and it broke my heart. I just love how their stories developed in this sequel.
I will miss the characters and keep up with the author on her social media. Because I need that third book or I'm going to fall into hell myself. Which wouldn't be so bad if Voshki and Vashien are there.
Absolutely amazing book! This is book 2 in this series, and boy, oh boy, was this wonderful!
I loved seeing Faye really tune into herself and become a complete badass in this book! As the queen, she should be. The overall character development we got from everyone in book one was pure chefs' kiss! Im excited to see where book 3 takes us after this ride of an ending. Sometimes, you just have to fight back and not hide, and damn did Faye bite back at those opposing her!
I will admit I did cry once and tear up a few times. But I also LOVED the spiceyness we got. The magic is so intriguing, and everyone can really be so different with it! Also, getting shown more of the world was wonderful, and I am excited to see even more!
We got more of a backstory on our favorite grumpy vampire and part of why he acts the way he does in the current time. I absolutely love voshki and the interactions between him and Rune! As much as people enjoy Sadi, I still am so hardcore on the fence about her. I understand why she did the things she needed to but still doesn't change that she's a bitch hahahaha.
I love this series so much and would totally recommend anyone to read book 1 and this one. They will send you on an amazing ride in an amazing world!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much, Kalista, for making such a great series!
Ok.... Why am I not surprised that Voshki is still my favorite? The way this shadow man has a chokehold on me is ridiculous! 🥲 That being said, I'm kinda starting to like a couple others, so he might have a run for his money.
I thought the spice in book one was spicy, but this book made it look like a jalapeno next to a habanero. The emotions going into all of it were 🤌💋💖, making everything feel a hundred times more intense. Speaking of intense... READ YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS. This one took a much darker direction than the usual vampy love triangle. You get to see so much more into their dark world than you do in book one, but not in a bad way. It didn't feel like it was just thrown in for the shock value.
You get Faye being unsure of herself and feeling that imposter syndrome, but man does she blow it out of the water with her badassery(as the queen should, obviously). There is a sort of back and forth within the triangle that got irritating, but more in the "you guys are such goobers and need to stop fighting and realize the potential you have working together".
All that to say "get this freaking book on your TBR immediately". 5⭐/5❤️🔥/5🌶️ across the board, and that's only because that's as high as the meter will allow me.
“Screams and agony would be the currency she extracted to repay the debt owed to her people.”
“Wrath enveloped her like a lover, seductive and warm.”
“Violence was the only language a dark-blood understood, and she would speak it in volumes.”
Here I was thinking it was a completed book series, NOPE! Kalista confirmed that we are getting more of them! Hells yes! I do have to say that she wraps the book up rather nicely - but it does end with the promise of some unhinged rage for book 3! I’m SO excited to see the absolute destruction that will come! Let’s GOOO!
Without giving away any spoilers - this book is full of some major life events. I was totally swooning during them too! Eek! The part of me that is a wife/mother/girlie girl could NOT be any happier! That’s all that I will say…
Once again, my favorite part is the sisters (Sparrow and Faye). The banter between them is absolutely hilarious! I kept thinking that I wanted to be more like Sparrow, but now… I’m going with Faye! 100%! She was always the underdog, overlooked and counted out - not anymore! I LOVED the development of her character!
Kalista, you have outdone yourself again, you have made me feel so many different kind of emotions from one book. I can’t wait to see what else happens! And I would wholeheartedly recommend this book series to anyone who loves vampires and also wants diversity in their reading. This series is for you.
WARNINGS.
There is a sort of back and forth within the triangle that got irritating, but more in the "you guys are such goobers and need to stop fighting and realize the potential you have working together".
she done such a wonderful job building the world and developing more details in the story. i have grown to love all the characters more by the story and making me want to keep on reading the book.
🖤 Touch her and 💀 🖤 Vampires 🖤 FMC coming into her power 🖤 Fates Mates 🖤 Two-bodied throuple 🖤 Court Intrigue
Kalista has done it again. Such an amazing book. I love how she goes into detail and really makes you feel like you’re in the story. This one is much darker and spicer than the first. Please check trigger warnings.
We continue with Faye, Rune and Voshki’s story. The character development was amazing. You get to see Faye come into her power and learn how rule her new court. Love seeing how she would do anything to make changes for the better.
I loved how Faye helped everyone. Especially the relationship between Rune and Voshki. But their bickering back and fourth throughout the book made me crackle. Just loved seeing their character development.
You do learn more about Rune and Voshki’s story in this book and the trauma that was faced. But you know our girl was there every step of the way helping anyway she could.
I just absolutely loved this book. So many emotions, I laughed, I cried, I yelled at my kindle a couple times. Such an emotional rollercoaster.
Also.. I love them both but I’m already missing Voshki! 🖤
To say that I was blown away by A Trial of Lace and Bone is an understatement. Kalista did an amazing job on the sequel to Invoking the Blood!
Faye's character development throughout this book was so much fun to watch. She embraced her new role and powers, and she wasn't backing down to anyone. She dealt with a lot in this book, but even when things seemed to be going badly, she never stopped fighting. We get more of Rune's backstory in this book, so buckle up, because some of it is heartbreaking. And then we have Rune's Ra'Voshnik, aka Voshki, aka my absolute favorite, chaotic character in the book! He loves Faye so much, and their interactions, both with and without Rune, are always so much fun! Of course, Sparrow is still at the top of my list of favorites. I love her energy!
This book had a lot of ups and downs. Faye and her court are having to deal with the Court of Lace and Bone, and their queen Delilah... she's a piece of work. And there is a huge bomb dropped towards the end of the second act. Honestly, be prepared for anything and everything when reading, because you never know what's going to happen. This series is a 10/10 and forever one of my favorites! It's so good!
So ... If I thought Invoking was pure magic and a masterpiece ... Well, this one just surpassed it. This book brings things into such a cohesive and perfect format. It jumps your right into the next stage for Rune and Faye, and it latches onto your soul and doesnt let go. I absolutely LOVE how Kalista hit so many key elements in this book and really brought out a set of emotions that just devour you. This book is heavier than the first, so please, check all content and trigger warnings before just jumping in.
Kalista has given us such a magnificent world to dive into and explore. She has given us characters to love, hate, grow with, and feel with. The layers that have gone into this, leave you breathless and begging for more all in the same breath.
I refuse to spoil a single thing about this book ... But I can say two words : HUNTERS MOON Youll find out when you read it.
Cant wait to step back into this world for the next chapter of this, cause Im sure it is going to wreck me in the most beautiful of ways.
Just finished this and WOW. There were some spots in the middle that dragged just a bit, but honestly, aside from those VERY FEW points, this story flowed incredibly well for being as lengthy as it is. You can tell that Ms. Neith took great care and attention to detail when creating this world. Writing is definitely her art form at which I believe she is truly a master.
My favorite part of this series is, surprisingly, Voshki. His banter NEVER gets old or annoying. As much as I love her, Sparrow is truly grinding on my last nerve. Voshki's subtle humor and psychotic musings just does things to me.
I love how Faye has really come into her own in this book. I think it speaks volumes about the personal growth and change that most women go through when going through such life-altering changes. You find an inner strength you didn't know you had. People can try to talk strength into you, teach you how to be stronger, but strength is not about skill. It's about survival. When you need to be strong to protect others, it pulls from inside of you and becomes nearly uncontrollable. Such is Faye's strength.
Just when I wonder how this book can top the other one. Omg I loved it!!!
The magical world just gets even more interesting. We continue to learn about the abilities that’s the vampires and the familiars have. The process that Faye and Sparrow have to go through.
I love seeing Faye grow throughout the story. Wanting to make the worried a better place and having to learn to manage and control her abilities. She had came along way since the first book and from the start of this one. She is truly a bada$$ and I love her!! One of my favorite female characters.
Seeing Ruin and Voshki having to deal with one another. Seeing bits of their past. My heart breaks for Ruin. Both Ruin and Voshki share one common interest and that’s Faye. They would do anything for her. I love the touch her and 💀 trope. The spicy scenes between Faye and both Ruin and Voshki were 🥵🥵🥵
I can’t enough enough!! I’m so obsessed with this series and love the Easter egg found in the book 😏😏 Hope to see more of that in the future!! Can’t wait for the next book!!
This world just keeps getting more unique with the world building and the magic systems. I believe the further we get into this series the more we see Faye's inner confidence grow! I love how she has developed throughout the series and how she keeps Runey on his toes. He may have to do as she commands but we all know he loves every bit of it. The backstory we get on Rune with tug your heartstrings or at least it tugged on mine. That poor Vampire Prince.
I can't wait to get to see Rune and Voshki get along better or at least I want that for them so bad and so does Faye. Some alliances shocked me but it shows how much of an effect that Faye has on the court and her people. Sparrow still cracks me up and I don't know how Vash has the patience to deal with her sometimes. I need more!!! I don't want to give spoilers but there's two new characters we meet later in the book that I can't wait to get to know more about!!!
I consider myself extremely lucky to have been selected as an ARC reader for book 2 in the Of Chaos and Darkness series by the amazing Kalista Neith!! I have been thinking and dreaming 😏😉 of these characters since the moment I finished book 1 last summer.
As a Vampire Girl, I feel confident saying this is my FAVORITE Vampire series last year and this year. (And I read a LOT of Vampire books). The spice is written so well! 🌶🌶🌶
Kalista has created a fantasy world like none I've read about before! The magic system is unique and mysterious!
Ok, let me get to book 2- it is everything I could have asked for and more. There are ups and down that make you feel every moment these characters experience! The Character development is epic (Go Faye!!!! You are our Queen!) I loved seeing her court in action (in a variety of settings).
I love the dynamic and conversations between Rune and Voshki! Love that Voshki gets to interact with order members of the court!
As always Sparrow and Vash are just perfect! <3 We get to hear more of Vash's view of their love in this book.
Also, love the Rune and Vash friendship development!
Lastly and the most important thing about the series is the love story between Faye and her vampires Rune and Voshki ! Its just perfect!
I'm horrible at writing reviews without giving away spoilers, but I just want to say, I loved a Trial of Lace and Bone! I love this series and I will read anything Kalista writes! She is our Vampire Queen!
If you are on the fence about this series, find Kalista on Social Media! Her character art and videos will have you sucked in 😉 within minutes!
