This volume shifts a bit in tone now that their task is nearing its end. Will Farin, who's been in the dragon's stomach all this time, be ok? Speaking of Marcille's magic, she's been hiding what kind of magic she can do and I think that's going to come back to bite her.
Lots of backstory in this volume, with flashbacks to when Laios and Farin were kids. Now that this story arc is done I'm excited for the next one, especially with the glimpse of the shady character shown at the end. There's more to this story than just the dungeon crawling bits and I'm looking forward to it.
Somehow I am now MORE worried for Falin than I was when she was dead, which is a neat author-trick.
Also ahhhh what a good volume. FRIENDSHIP and people pulling together to fight a dragon (Chillichuck in combat (I was so afraid he was gonna get eaten), LAIOS YOU BLESSED IDIOT, Marcille mayyyybe breaking the laws of god and man to get her friend back?) and that lore drop at the beginning that fills me with suspicion. GJ, author, this manga continues to be delightful.

This volume is all about the Red Dragon, who has been the main impetus for this current raid that brought them into the lower levels of the dungeon. This story has proven to have a really broad spectrum, it's mainly a comedy, but it has some decent drama, all out action, and now, some more mystery to hopefully carry this story after subjugating the dragon and bringing back Falin.
I'm really how this story would now move forward without losing that Dungeon Meshi flavor, and perhaps a new quest for our favorite monster munching party.
This story went where I was waiting for it to go in a huge way! Exciting, action-packed, fulfilling, and absolutely sketchy with how I believe things may be playing out. I can see this story taking a dark turn in certain ways and I’m just really excited to dive into more of this!
8/23/2021: ★★★☆☆ Wasn't completely sold on the series until this volume. Chapter 27 is so macabre and I want more of that. I'm not sure where the story is going now that the Red Dragon arc is over, but the hints we've gotten seem promising and I can't wait for more.
Marcille is an absolute badass and Laios is just way too cute and nerdy and curious and at the same time totally dumb. I just love all the characters so much. Really curious how the story continues with Falin.
I wasn't expecting for the series to forego its usual episodic format in favor of one longer story but I'm totally here for it. I love that we're also getting more lore and character backgrounds.
Delicious in Dungeon Vol. 4 continues to blend humour, adventure, and mouthwatering fantasy cuisine in a truly engaging way. As I read, I noticed that this volume deepens the party’s struggles as they venture further into the dungeon—facing more dangerous creatures, like the Red Dragon, and refining their survival strategies along the way. Ryoko Kui does an excellent job balancing character development with world-building, and I appreciated the richer insight into the dungeon’s ecosystem and its inhabitants.
I was particularly impressed by the well-paced action and tense encounters that keep the stakes high. The creative, food-based world-building remains a highlight, with inventive monster-based dishes adding charm and a lighthearted twist to an otherwise perilous journey.
That said, I did feel that some sections were slightly formulaic, following the established pattern of fight, cook, and discuss. While I understand that this rhythm is part of the series’ charm, it might not be as fresh for anyone looking for major plot twists. Nevertheless, this volume continues to deliver a delightful mix of comedy and action, especially with the Red Dragon encounter.
Overall, I’m really enjoying this series. It isn’t too serious, but it’s packed with humour and fun, and I can’t wait to see what happens in volume five. Excellent manga!
The fourth book of the series and it still delivers. This book is all about getting to the massive Red Dragon, fighting it and get to the stomach to hopefully save Falin. All characters are fun as always, leading with Laios as typical "lucky village idiot" surprising with few very peculiar expertise. We got a bit of history about Falin here, a lot of serious adventure around challenging the Red Dragon to the ultimate (and uneven) fight and some cooking as well. I really liked that the cooking is still not forced, it just natural. Everything gets its space when it should get it. And that feels good, feels real and natural. I expected a little bit of cliche from the rescue, but I was really mistaken. It went how it usually goes, but with a very clever twist (). I really enjoyed this book, and I believe, as it is good stuff comedy/adventure stuff in the manga category, it's awesome in elements beyond its class. Thus five stars rating here.
YESSSS time to fight the red dragon! This was such a good volume full of action (which was great) but also it managed to have the same wholesome feel to it as the other volumes. I love this series so much. Senshi is the best character!
[férias #1] muito bom que a primeira vez em que a história fica mais sombria é também a primeira vez que a gente tem alguma dica de como funciona a política desse mundo. gosto muito de todas as cenas com a falin 😔💕
The party finally faces the dragon. All the action and humor aside, there was also some tension foreshadowing possible future events.
Another thing that's not talked about enough is the artwork; the expressions of the characters are well portrayed, and the style switches from serious to wacky weird, just as the situation demands.
"Lose the group's trust, and you've lost everything."
Yep, it's official! Chilchuck is my favorite!
It was nice to get more flashbacks, especially since it involved Laios and Falin as kids! I just appreciated seeing what these siblings were like when they were little.
