Don't like cliches? Then you shouldn't read this story at all.

Because this is just another one-sided love story - just another one of those times when someone fell for their best friend. And that someone is me.

She is nothing like me. I have demons in my head, while she dances in colors. And perhaps for that reason, it was so simple to fall in love with her.

But my feelings are nothing but a secret. I kept them hidden for five years because I was afraid of losing her. But one evening everything suddenly changed.

And this is the story to tell you exactly how it happened.

Okay, so there's a lot I want to say about this book.

1) It's very short and it goes quickly, I just sat down and couldn't put it down!
2) I loved the approach of the author of not revealing what the MC's gender is. First it made me confused, then it made me curious, then it made me go like - this is a masterpiece! What does gender matter?
3) The depiction of mental illness was very realistic. If this is a trigger for you, proceed with caution. It was written in a very respectful and soft way, but there were moments that were heavy, too.
4) I know what unrequited love is and I could relate to everything in this book. It's especially heart-wrenching when it's for a friend, and it can become very unhealthy. I even found myself reflected in one of the hard scenes. It was like I was reading my life story. It was jarring, but good.
5) It's emotionally gripping and it won't let you go. I wish there was more, like maybe some scenes were more detailed, but at the end, I thought the length was very pleasant, so... nevermind. :D

In the end, I really enjoyed this love story. Amazing. :)

I really loved this book.

It was very heartbreaking and I swear that if I had not been sitting in a public bus then I would have cried.

This book was a short and fast read.

I really liked that you din't know what gender the mc was because then I think more people can relate to it and there is no reason to know the gender because the book is amazing anyway.

I would totaly reccomed it.

This story is one that skims the surface of narrative, while delving deep into emotions. The story is driven by feeling, and pushed forwards by hope, rejection, depression, and love.

This story was written in an interesting writing style. It almost reads like a diary, never truly explaining the past, but following the present, through deep feelings and fears. The leading perspective narrates the story as though it is a running commentary inside their own head, creating a deep sense of knowing the character. There are no boundaries separating the character from the reader, as the character's entirety is laid out to be read. It may have helped to know some more about the characters themselves, or if some scenes had more detail and went more in-depth about what was happening, rather than just the feelings of the main character, but as it was it did keep my attention while reading.

I particularly liked that the main character's gender is never specified. Throughout the entirety of reading, I pictured the narrator to be a woman, although reading some of the reviews on the book, several people have pictured a man while reading. The lack of gender specification makes this book a lot more open to reader interpretation, allowing the reader to make this story their own experience by filling in the blanks, and reading about the inner feelings and experiences of the main character, without the focus being on their day-to-day life.

There are some darker themes explored in this story, which readers should be aware of before reading. Alcoholism, mental health issues, anger issues, and suicide are all mentioned, but all are handled tactfully, and with care.

This was definitely an enjoyable story, and the writing style was unique. It is an intense reading experience, not a short and sweet romance for a quick read between longer books. It is a deeply emotional story, and will certainly have you feeling emotional as you read.

Really enjoyed this!

I enjoy the way Mia Sanchez puts us in the MC's head. She really captures the all-consuming aspect of this friendship, the unrequited love, and ultimate romance, especially in the more minimalistic setting descriptions and the inner voice rather than dialogue. I found this to be a brilliant method of centering the relationship with the friend & the angst, downward spiral of mental health & raw emotions surrounding it all! It also made those moments where the character notes the beauty surrounding them or when dialogue is spoken all the more powerful!

I also really enjoyed the quotes at the beginning of each chapter! It added to the vibes of each one, setting the mood and matching the chapter titles perfectly!

I quite enjoyed reading this piece. The voice was well developed throughout and the storyline was planned out well and intriguing. It is a short story and more of a simplistic style of telling instead of showing, which fits very well with the piece. I read it in under an hour and ate it up. There are quite a lot of grammatical mistakes and some poor word choices throughout the piece that hurt the flow a little, but the story always pulls you back in to make up for it. The piece is also quite contemporary, discussing mental health and leaving the main character’s gender ambiguous. Overall, I found it quite interesting and worth the read.

Not a TW, but there are mentions of mental health issues and battling with it, so beware before diving. There's nothing that happens, it's just that our main character goes through some issues.

🅼🆈 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆:

Wow.... Even though this was a quick read, yet once I started I couldn't put this one down.

This book takes us on an angsty ride telling us the story and making us feel the avalanche of emotions from the pov of a boy who's always been in love with his best friend.

The poetry at the start of each chapter just had my heart and I loved the way those lyrical lines captured the essence of each chapter.

We don't even have names yet this book gets you so freaking invested in what's happening and also rooting for the boy who's in love with the girl, that he can't ever have it seems.

It's so tricky when there's this deep friendship involved, battling the fear of not losing that friendship while also wanting to express how crazy you are for them.

This short story hits you hard and packed a punch with all the waves of emotions flowing and also the way things happen at a rapid pace that actually are not that rapid.

I was honestly scared too, not knowing where this story was going to take me but I'm so glad we get the sweet ending we do.
Loved this one. ❤️❤️

This is a nice tale of being in love and waiting patiently - for the most part - for it to blossom, or for the love to be returned.
It gives a good emotional picture of what the person goes through as the object of the love does not know, until a certain time.
It could use a bit more dialogue to give a better picture of the personalities involved.
There are some twists and turns, which is good, but a lot is left to the imagination.
I sort of like it that it is not all explained.

The passion that the mind expresses is very moving throughout the whole story and I can feel what the author is trying to share with a view to enjoy the emotion that is overflowing. Took me back many years in my life, too, when I was grappling with similar emotions that evolved into beautiful moments that I still cherish. The author has certainly triggered my mind,

Predictable but a good read

Boy is best friends with girl.

Boy falls in love with girl.

Boy tries to fight the feelings of being in love with best friend and fails.

This was predictable but it was a sweet short story that had a good message and a satisfying ending. It's also a story about facing demons and overcoming obstacles.

TW for suicidal ideation and alcohol abuse.

I feel terrible giving this such a low review, but this was genuinely bad. Poorly written, unlikeable characters, I actually wish I’d DNF even though it was so short. The main character was self indulgent and manipulative, it’s borderline emotional abuse. This wasn’t love, it was straight up toxic. And not in the fun morally grey kinda way.
