This book simultaneously built my heart up to the brim and broke it. I accidentally spoiled myself in a chapter header design review and even that didn't prepare me.

I can't say enough about each characters development. Amber writes in a way where you think you hate someone and then a few pages later you are obssesed. She can capture the struggles of mental health perfectly written in words. There were several times I had to pause to breathe. There is anguish and the best bits of pure love. There is banter and it's just *perfect*

I finished it and instantly wanted to start it again. I loved the different point of views and it just pulls you deeper into the complexity of each character.

Chapter 23 was a chapter I will never ever forget. I couldn't focus for hours after it. The face covering grin and blushing I did was sure to be seen by all because I read it in public.

I would beg on my knees for a short Damien story now.

I received an ARC Copy of this book, this review is from my own thought 😍

I knew what was coming, and that book wrecked me, it was really intense, full of uncertainties - I loved every moment of it.
It’s hard to talk about it without spoiling, so I will be careful 😅

I love when there are multiples POV and was happy to be back in the head of a certain someone and discover more of another character. After the ending of book 2, I was really excited to read the big final and it didn’t disappoint. So many things happened but at the same time the plot is kind of condensed over a short period of time, truly focusing on the inner problems of the characters… and for sure nothing is easy for any of them.
This one was an emotional rollercoaster, I even started to like a character that I didn’t care about in the first book and didn’t like in the 2nd - so my mind can always be changed !!

I’m kind of sad that it’s finished and to say goodbye to the characters, I’m just feeling a little frustrated for two of them, I would have hoped for a better end or then a special chapter/novella 😍

4/5 for this book, 4.5/5 for the series as a whole

**Minor spoilers potentially**

Eva’s internal turmoil and growth after grief and trauma were so amazing and relatable, I absolutely loved her as a character. I’m also so impressed that Amber can give us readers such a 180 on 2 characters in particular during the series as a whole. It’s impressive to hate them so much in earlier books and then grow to really care for them by the end.

The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars on this last book is it felt like it took a realllllly long time for the action in the plot to move forward. Trying to keep details out to prevent spoilers, but I would’ve loved to see just a couple little scenes showing Lachlan doing something interspersed with the chapters developing other characters!

Didn’t love this one as much as the first two. Several annoying typos. A sudden odd switch in speech pattern (characters suddenly only saying “do not” instead of don’t or “can not” instead of can’t). Several banging plot threads. Sudden relationships with no build up or groundwork that felt jarring. Overall, found it harder to get through this book than the first two and just didn’t love it.

Firstly I'd like to thank Amber for sending me an ARC for review, and secondly I'd like to return the gift giving by sending her my therapy bill 😂😂

The fact that I finished this at the start of mental health awareness week was apt to say the least! There are some extremely heavy themes across this whole trilogy, and this book in particular was very focused on our characters and their individual traumas/ how it was affecting them and influencing the way they were reacting throughout the whole book. I really do applaud the finesse with which these themes were handled!

The story. Oh my god the story. I can't say much without giving away spoilers for the series as a whole, but oh myyyy. This book has destroyed me, shredded my heart and sewed it back together again. The growth of certain characters and the spiralling of others. The heart aching hope and redemption and the absolutely gut wrenching anger and sorrows. I swear to god the big oh no event that took place will haunt me for the rest of my life. And the letter. The letter. 😭😭😭😭 and then the end!!!! I just.... *cries*

Oh and hot damn was this spicy. Scorching hot. Seriously guys, NSFW 😂😂

Such a great ending to a great series, I really would recommend to anyone who's into the romantasy genre! I'll be sat here waiting not very patiently for possible future works with these characters because I absolutely am not ready to leave them behind yet!!!

Adult Fantasy Romance 📖

Of Ashes and Crowns is the third and final installment in the epic fantasy romance series, Darkness and Fire, by Amber Palmer. This book was hauntingly beautiful and filled me with more hope and love than I thought possible. The plot was enthralling and kept me turning the pages well into the midnight hours. I was consumed.

This story is teeming with in-depth political intrigue, incredible character development, accurate mental health representation, love, redemption, delicious banter, passion, spice, grief, fierce loyalty, family, and perseverance.

The characters within this story are unique, complex, and fully developed. Only Kalen can make you laugh in the middle of murder, mayhem, and chaos. As the author perfectly interweaves multiple points of view, I felt entirely immersed in the individual experiences of each character while remaining fully engaged in the overall plot. I fell in love with all of them, even those I absolutely hated in book two.

The passion in this book is…. whew, simply put, HOT! Ranging from loving praise and tenderness to a delicious tailspin that felt like a consuming inferno ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Let’s just say that I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a very specific NSFW!

The romantic relationship between Eva and her mate is breathtaking and provides a refreshing and realistic glimpse into the more grueling, raw, and difficult aspects of their bond and processing their traumas. I absolutely loved the way the characters supported one another while acknowledging that they could not “save” the other from working through the pain and hurt of the past.

In each attempt to write my review on Of Ashes and Crowns I struggled to adequately conveying the emotional impact that this author’s story has had on me or in describing the emotional complexities of her amazing characters. This is a book you truly have to experience for yourself!

I highly recommend Of Ashes and Crowns, and the entire Darkness and Fire series to romance, fantasy, and fantasy romance readers.

My most sincere and genuine thanks to Amber Palmer for having me on your ARC team and for sharing this beautiful story with all of us.

I’m sobbing. I’m hurting. BUT I’m happy. I have never felt so many emotions while reading a book but this book did me in. I wasn’t ready for the heartbreak I didn’t expect. But I’m so glad that Eva and Matthew got their happy ending. AND Amber, I will never be ok again.

Eva went through so much in this last book but it just truly showed how strong her character is. She lost way too many people in her life but she continued to protect her kingdom and everyone she loves. She is honestly one of my favorite female characters.

Matthew had me feeling many different emotions. I loved how protective he was over Eva. However, there were many times I wanted to stop him in his tracks because he was too protective and Eva could handle her own. At the end of the day, I still very much love Matthew.

Now to what I’ve been dying to talk about. The side characters. They all pulled at my heartstrings and I was ready to come through this book and save them. There was so much redemption with all of the characters. There was so much love and happiness shared between every character. Honestly, I have never loved side characters more than this series. I have to say Renai is my favorite side character and I just need her story.

Without spoiling, I’ll just share the one thing that will forever break my heart… “I hope you know that falling for you was easy and forgetting you will be impossible.” INSTANT HEARTBREAK AMBER. This next book has to come soon because I can’t handle the pain.

If you haven’t already checked out the Darkness and Fire series by Amber Palmer, you really should.

If you have missed me screaming about the Darkness and Fire series let me tell you! The first had me begging for more, the second left me screaming and the third is her best work yet!

Helia is fractured, attempting to recover from tragic loss and shocking revelations. The lines between good and evil have become blurred and it is difficult to know who can be relied upon in this time of unrest. Those who remain in Helia struggle to process their trauma. While some find solace in turning to their work, others struggle to find a semblance of normality finding nothing but pain. Ghosts from the past have come back to haunt them, and the only way to put them to rest is to face them head on. There is one thing known for certain: The Horde is coming and they do not know how to stop them.

This book left me wrecked in all the best ways. The story took it down to the wire and had me sweating, crying and stressing all the way to the end. This is hands down Amber’s best writing.

I cannot put into words how well this book navigates grief, love, and insecurities and all the Big Emotions that go with those. It was so accurate and stunningly woven into the story. I struggle to think of another book that does such an amazing job.

And the spice. Holy. Smokes. Like all of it. But Chapter 23? Dead from overheating. And it’s not just the actual smut (which is amazing) but how it adds to the character’s story and development - so well done.

I so highly recommend it. Thank you so much to Amber for my ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

Oh this trilogy is forever in my heart the love I have for these characters and Ambers writing will be ingrained in my mind forever.

This book was such an amazing ending to the series, I felt heartbreak, happiness, and spiciness all in one book. My emotions are all over the place. As usual, Ambers writing will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what’s going to happen and with the multiple POVs is makes everything so much better.

Eva and Mathew have been through so much, and with everything that happened in book 2 let’s just say it doesn’t end there. I love Eva, she is forever one of my FMC, I fell in love with her character in book 1 and the growth to book 3 is fantastic. Mathew is my babe, my husband and no one can tell me otherwise, he loves so viciously it makes me melt. If I ever find a man who treats me half as well as he treats Eva I’ll be a happy women.

“You never have to thank me for bringing you comfort, Matthew. I love you, and I would do anything for you. If you need time alone, tell me. If you need me to hold you while you cry, tell me. The point is, my darling, that you are not alone.”

The side characters, I just want to cry. I don’t want to spoil too much for anyone but you really get so much more out of them all in this book.

FINALLY! After hating Damien we get a redemption and it had me in tears, everything that happened in this book with him was a whirlwind and I do kinda hope we see more of him somewhere.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book and wow…. This book just wow.

I literally finished it five seconds ago so finding words to describe how I feel is challenging to say the least. This book was a beautiful end to an amazing trilogy. As expected it emotionally traumatized me many times.

Matthew and Eva’s growth through this book is so beautiful to watch and I loved how much you got to see the secondary characters stories and how they grew and changed as well.

The way Amber wrote about Eva’s journey with grief and learning to not blame herself is so so beautiful and amazingly done. One of my favourite lines in the book is “I am poison and ruin.” Eva grew so so much throughout this book and it was beautiful to read.

Everything about this book was amazing, from the story telling, the character development, just everything was so perfectly paced and so well done.

I do have a bone to pick with Amber over a certain part (you know what you did🧐) but overall this was a beautiful conclusion to an amazing trilogy. I’m numb, I’m happy, I’m empty inside. Just all the feels. I hope we get to see more of Matthew and Eva as well as certain other characters;)

This book and series was absolutely amazing and I wish it wasn’t over but in the same breath I’m so happy it is because it was done so so well.

✨Arc Review ✨

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

I am crying, screaming, happy, sad, and completely shattered after reading this book 😭

If you love:
👑 Fated Mates
👑 Enemies to lovers
👑 Emotional Damage
👑 Love conquers all
👑Multiple POVS
👑Badass FMC
👑 Morally Grey Men

Then this is your book ! This is the last book in the Of Darkness and Fire series, and let me tell you it did not disappoint!

First and foremost I have to let you know that in a few times during this series I yelled at Amber for playing with my emotions the way she did in this trilogy lol. I wanted to hate Damien so bad BUT THE COMEBACK his character made had me sobbing 😭. Like it went from F U to omg my poor baby 😭 like the hell? 🤣 I also adored the multiple POVS because they all made this book *chefs kiss* 🤌🏼 Amber really cranked up the spice in this book for more than just the main characters and I was living for all of it 🔥 There was so many plot twists that I didn’t see coming I got whip lash more than once 🤣 usually I’m pretty good at predicting certain things, Amber had me on the edge of my seat the WHOLE time. I was so enraptured with Eva and Matthews relationship every time their POV would pop up I would giggle hehe. They’re literally the definition of a bad ass power couple.
I loved how all the characters evolved from all the books and even though I was very emotionally damaged this series will be in my top 3 favorite fantasy reads this year. Everyone needs to read it and if you don’t well you’re missing out on escaping to this amazing world of love, spice, torture, redemption, and loyalty. You will want to make this series your whole identity.

Lastly, I want to thank @amberpalmerauthor for sending me a Arc copy of this heartbreakingly beautiful of a book. When I was doing my book boxes I had included the first two books of this trilogy and I am so glad I did. It’s always a pleasure to work with you Amber, and thank you for writing this amazing trilogy. It was absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to read more of what’s next!! I love you but hate you 🤣🤍

Thank you to Amber Palmer for letting me arc read for this book. I gave this book four stars and there were a lot of things to love about this book. I loved being back in the world of Helia and with these characters again. I thought the mental health representation was amazing in this book. Every character had some sort of trauma and dealt with it in different ways that I thought were very realistic. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, it had me on the edge of my seat and anxious for the last... quarter of the book. There were quite a few twists and turns I didn't see coming. I did feel some of the chapters in this book were a little bit too long. On my kindle, they came out to be between 20 minutes and a half an hour to read with little page breaks to signal a time skip or a shift in scene. I think some of these chapters could have been a little shorter, and maybe some of the inner monologue of the characters inner thoughts condensed. At the end the author left things open-ended for a few of the characters and although I wish we had gotten closure for them... I think the author plans to have more books set in this world.

Wow... I'm speechless. Thank you so much, Amber for gifting me an ARC of the final installment of the Darkness and Fire trilogy.

I finished this beauty yesterday, and I still can't put my thoughts into words. I won't say much about the story because it's book three, and I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who haven't read it yet.

This series is high fantasy, with a strong FMC, lots of emotional damage and pain, fated mates, spicy, found family, morally gray characters, healing and mental health representation (for all our characters!). Like every one of us is struggling in real life with mental health issues, so are our characters, and I loved how Amber did it.

There is one certain character (iykyk) that I hated at the end of book two, this character wasn't the nicest person in the first book either BUT how Amber wrote the redemption of this character how. 🤯🥹❤️

I can highly recommend it, and hope lots of other people have the joy to fall in love with that story.

ARC review:

I have been following Amber with this series since book 1 became free on kindle for one day - binged it all and I was hooked!

This trilogy is probably one of my all time favorites!
I’ve never read another fantasy series quite like this one and I will definitely be rereading it later this year!
If you like “WTF” moments, betrayal, political intrigue, romance, mate bond, right person wrong time…
THIS IS FOR YOU!!

I literally bawled my eyes out in the third book, and I do not cry often with books - nor do I give out five stars very often!

AMBER, YOU ARE A GENUIS! NEVER STOP WRITING

I enjoyed the second book so much so I found the finale very disappointing. This book was a chore to read and it’s taken me weeks to push through, I just found it so boring. Eva and Matthew became very boring and i think Matthew’s entire personality just disappeared!
Damien, Kalen and Renai carried this story and their endings were dreadful.

As always, it’s a joy working with Amber 🥹

I relish the opportunity to read books before they release, and seeing this one come to fruition was something special!

The perfect conclusion to the trilogy, this book has it all. Prepare to rage, cry, and stock up on batteries 😜

The entire series is perfection! I loved these characters and I mourned the ones lost along the way. Twists and turns, betrayal and love, good vs evil oh so good! But I want more about Renai, I felt a little disappointed with the ending not giving the rest of her story.

An epic conclusion to the Darkness and Fire trilogy.

I will say, the pacing was a bit slower than I would have preferred, but the impact of the ending, and how vivid the descriptions were slid this one home for me. I appreciate how unpredictable the endings of each book in the trilogy have been, including this one. Some of it is predictable, but Amber Palmer still manages to leave the reader guessing and filled with emotions. I like when an author isn't afraid to take risks with their characters.

"Of Ashes and Crowns," the final installment of Amber Palmer's trilogy, is an extraordinary conclusion that leaves readers in awe of her storytelling prowess. The unique twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat, while her ability to seamlessly switch between different points of view created a deep connection between me and the characters. Palmer's skillful narrative not only brought a sense of finality to the trilogy but also encouraged me to be fully committed to the fates of these beloved characters. This book is a testament to her talent and a fantastic conclusion to an unforgettable journey.
