Funny, complex and devastating. It's real artisan writing. So poised and assured that you think, "Hmm, it'll be one of those books that you read for the language and characters but probably a bit thin on plot." But then... oh my god: the narrative arc is also a total killer. I can't overstate how much I enjoyed this clever, sad and truthful work of art.

A rather nondescript interweaving of tales of a childhood and partnerships with the one, I suspect, meant to illuminate the other but not quite, imho, succeeding. I wasn't as shocked as Hannah at some of the things she discovers towards the end of the book, even though some of them had not been hinted at, so it didn't feel convincing or draw me in. Sorry.
