"Ooh, I haven't seen a slaughter like this in centuries!"
Spicy, dark fantasy with a morally grey transFMC.
Let's get this out of the way: I strongly reject the idea that LGBTQ+ characters and their love interests need to be all innocent and perfect for them to be accepted and loved in the book circles. The world needs more morally grey books and that includes queer books.
On that note, this book certainly delivers. Kathy is cunning, sharp, and powerful. She engages in spicy rituals, action, tarot etc, and the found family trope is just the icing on the cake.
The pace, however, was a little too fast for my liking. I would've wanted the feelings of the characters to grow and mature a little slower, but there was no time since the plot kind of went from one crisis to the other. It's a personal preference. Then again, I read this in basically one sitting when I was supposed to sleep, so I guess I can't take too many points off for this alone.
