This is the front end for the book "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement: A Reader." This book summarizes and organizes material from the papers in the much larger "Reader." This book is a significant aid to studying the material.

A must read for anyone going into missions

This was a life-changing course, both as a Christian and as a missionary. I wouldn't recommend reading this book alone: it is intended to be read together with the study guide, in the context of a Perspectives course (which you can find near to you, or do online as I did). If you can do the course in person I would highly recommend that, though the book and study guide together can be standalone (the course adds lectures, discussions, and homework).

The course is highly academic, and requires a lot of reading, so I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone. It's also not something I would recommend to a new Christian: I saw someone who was looking to read this to learn more about the Christian faith, but this is not a primer on Christian faith -- it is a much more indepth look at missions (one aspect of Christian faith, though certainly a central one). However I would recommend this course/book to *anyone* interested in going overseas (short-term or long-term), and I would recommend it to any mature Christian who can handle to readings. It really changed my thinking regarding Christian missions, but it also had an impact on my view of the Bible and Christian living.

This Study guide is used in conjunction with Perspectives on the World Christian Movement (the reader) and is to be used for the class Perspectives to get the most out of it. Each lesson coincides with the lesson taught in class and then directs you to further reading in the reader. I recommend it to any follower of Jesus who is interested in how God is working in the world and what their part is.

This organizes the readings in the “Perspectives” reader into a course, so it doesn’t stand on its own. Content is good, but inherently a summary, as expected. Star rating reflects Hawthorne’s writing style and curriculum organizational skills.

If you're wondering what God is doing in the world, take a Perspectives class (www.perspectives.org), read this book and get on board with God's plan. He's been a God of outreach and drawing peoples back to Himself from the very beginning and is continuing on today and into the future.
