The District believes I’m the flawless youngest daughter of a tycoon.
Neither is true. And I’m about to have my world, my house, my rose-coloured glasses, and all, stripped from beneath my Jimmy Choo heels.
With one flickering light at the end of the tunnel…
Xander Butcher.
The city’s boxing legend is a hot mess. He’s the youngest son of a champion boxer, with huge gloves to fill and a dark legacy to abide by.
At the perfect moment, we collide.
We're dirty, we're raw, and our souls mend before we catch our breath.
But some of the broken pieces of Xander will never heal, not with time, not with help, and I’m holding on as he falls, clutching… even after my hands are empty.
Their Broken Legend is part of The Kids of The District series but can be read without the previous books, although it follows a greater narrative. It has a happily ever after. No cheating. No other woman drama. It has violence, steam, gore, angst, and romance. Enjoy.
"She (Nicci) shines in crafting novels that toe the line between dark and dangerous, and sweet and sexy, which culminates into a deliciously sinful story of passion, truth, and acceptance." - Jessica @jessicareadsit
Their Broken Legend is the fourth installment of the Kids of the District series by Nicci Harris. It is a complete stand alone, but best enjoyed when read in series order due to an overarching story arc. It's the story of Xander Butcher, the youngest Butcher brother and Kaya, the youngest daughter of a disgraced tycoon. Both feel guilt and love for a messed up, irresponsible parent. Both cope in different ways. Xander with his easy going facade and need to use his fists and Kaya with her cold, grumpy exterior and willingness to do anything for her dad. The two come together in an explosion and blend in ways neither expected. Just when it all seems to be going right, the world drops out from beneath them. The turbulent road ahead is going to remind Xander (and Kaya) what it truly means to be a Butcher.
This book truly had me wrecked. ALL the emotions - from laughing out loud to sobbing. I've been a complete fan of Nicci's since Max's book and seen her writing get better and better, but Xander's was definitely next level! Just super well written, SO emotional, but with intent, not just angst for the sake of angst. It was fast paced and definitely had me hooked from beginning to end. I also learned a couple things and I just LOVE it when that happens, lol. The character development was fan-fucking-tastic! Xander just had so much depth from his pain,to his complex relationship with the brothers he loves, to how he deals with adversity. I loved how he was all in with Kaya from the start and not afraid to lay himself bare. SO super instense. Kaya grounds and centers him, but at the same time ignites him in a way he's never felt. Grumpy heroines are seriously my favorite, lol and Kaya is great. She has her own moral compass that's not dictated by anyone else and she's a put up or shut up kind of girl for the people she loves. She sets her own rules and uses her grumpy exterior to protect her gooey center and she's definitely gooey for Xander. Nicci truly gave us the perfect story, both for Xander, but also to say good bye to the series. It left me with a smile on my face and my heart and I know it's going to be a favorite reread.
I read this in nine hours, and it consumed my soul. It took me a day to write this review to contemplate that this will be the last review I write for this series. The Butcher Boys have been with me for two years, and I've anticipated their releases for two years. I'm not ready for there to be no more. Xander and Kala's story was heartbreaking, soul-wrenching, and beautiful. Both were going through past and present trauma, both broken, but together they were it. I wasn't sure what to expect from Xander's story, but it wasn't this. Nicci took us back into the kids of the District world, with a beautiful plot and characters I know and didn't know, but by the end of it, I was happy, crying but happy. With so much emotions, I sobbed several times. I didn't want it to end. Now I need to go and reflect and do a reread of the series. I feel like im grieving.
I don’t like to think too much about characters and their up coming books. It was hard not to over hype myself with this book. I was excited. I should have known that Nicci would never disappoint.
I purchase without reading her work because I know I’ll be loving what she writes. This was no different.
If you are reading this as a stand-alone, I urge you to STOP and go read the others from the beginning. This could be read as stand alone, it really can be but you’d be doing yourself a disservice by doing so. The other books give you so much insight. The heartbreak and tears won’t mean as much.
You need to know these brothers first hand. Their love for each other is obvious but knowing them through their own minds/words make the love run deeper.
They all carried the same pain in different ways and it all comes together here.
Xander was a little of all the brothers and uniquely only himself all at the same time.
Kaya was confused and broken.
Both of the MCs are lost and fit each other beautifully. They hold each other and love hard.
Like all of nicci’s books…expect pain. I cried. But as much as Nicci loves to tear our hearts out, she also stitches us back together. And I know it sounds crazy but our stitched up hearts are somehow more beautiful than they were before.
Thank you, Nicci. I will never tire of saying that. Thank you for these brothers. Thank you for their HEA’s. Thank you for building such a wonderful family.
i can't connect with the mcs and i really tried but it just won't work. he got obsessed with her after he gave her an oral in a party but apparently this isn't the first time they did it. it was implied they met months before and they did the same thing but the mmc was way too drunk but still successful getting the fmc satisfied. he doesn't remember her or that encounter. also, because he used to f*ck all the time, probably these women were unforgettable and he can no longer track of who's who. after their second encounter, he can't stop thinking about her and idk the reason why.
as for the fmc, she didn't forget him after their first time, she developed some sort of crush but she knew xander didn't do relationships and she's aware of his reputation. she's a v-card holder but labeled as sl*t by the people in their town because she's been with multiple men. she only wants to get pleasure from them and she never returns the favor, it's always about her. and this is how she used the mmc in the two encounters they had. according to her, if she didn't let the men finish, she won't be used in any way or capacity. this thinking came from her anger at her mom, for standing by and letting her father cheat on her on multiple times. she's mad for the way how her mom was used by her father all the time, so she promised not to be like her and instead would only take what she wants from men.
this is supposed to be reverse grumpy / sunshine, but the mmc isn't adorable, i don't understand the way how he thinks and he pissed me most of the time in the last 40% i read. and the fmc is just plain rude and witchy. she said it herself she's spoilt, selfish, vindictive, and a liar.
if i read one more time the word "woman" as his term of endearment, i'm going to lose my shit. so i better stop before this officially makes my blood boil.
“You forget, Hothead. I’ll take you dirty. I’ll take you clean. Just let me be the one to take you. All of you. The hard parts and the brutal ones. The vulnerable ones.”
I was eager to see another Butcher get his HEA. And Xander deserves all the good things. This chaotic but loving man needs to be protected at all costs. I loved how he just swept in and staked his claim so quickly and then went about convincing Kaya that they are meant to be.
Kaya is in a tough place but she's trying her best. She has a plan, she's in control... until Xander sweeps in and knocks her off her feet. She couldn't plan for him and she doesn't quite know how to react to all the feelings he awakens in her.
This book had a lot of touching and emotional moments. It also touched on some very tough topics, as this author often does. So be prepared for a few knock out punches. But it was hard to deny the deep connection and love between these two.
My biggest issue was that it was hard for me to connect with Kaya. She is an ice queen though, so that's no surprise.
Overall, this was a strong finish to the Kids of the District, I can't wait to see what comes next from Nicci Harris.
4 stars 4 on the spice scale
CW: SA, talk of previous childhood assault, violence, head injury side effects
Firstly, thank you to the Author & her team for providing me with this ARC. 😊
I was really impressed by the teasers and blurb for this book, and the graphics were downright hot AF. FYI...loved the triggers list. 😈😍 It seemed to be the perfect book, for me, as it ticked all the boxes.
Why I DNF'd? It really came down to the book not being for me.
* feedback was provided to the Author's team prior to book release date*
Ok spoiler: The h is getting her v*gina eaten out by another guy in the opening of this book. I don’t like my main characters with OTHER characters, be it the H or h. So this is a pass.

I can't lie. I wasn't ready for this read. I wasn't ready for this series to end.
This was the series that got me into arc reading. This was the series that got me into dark mafia romance honestly.
This book is deep. There are so many emotions to unpack and it is just such a heavy book. Nicci Harris knows how to write a damn book.
I don't cry at books, I always accept the challenge of "you will bawl your eyes out" when it comes to books. This book....this book destroyed me. I cried for at least 10 minutes.
The raw emotions in this book.....you need to ready yourselves.
Thank you Nicci for bringing us these men. They are perfection. They are larger than life. They will be with us forever.
Another amazing book to this already fantastic series! I instantly fall in love with all of the female MCs in each book of this series. I thought this had very funny moments. I saved multiple parts for a relisten because I absolutely lost it! 😂 This also had some emotional damage moments that made ya feel for the main character. The story is fantastic and it delivers on all fronts. The audiobook is also a top audio for the year for me. Duet narration with a full cast. It also had some extra features that really made it a great experience.
DNF at 46%, just can’t get past the new plot point, not for me. But others will definitely enjoy. I love Nicci Harris’ writing so keeping the rating in the middle, just not the plot for me
Rated - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Trope - Reverse grumpy/ sunshine Emotions - ALL OF THEM
Our time in the District has come to an end and in true Butcher Boy style, Xander is a picture of extremes. Utterly possessive, brutal and bloody, broken beyond repair, loyal to a fault and smitten to the point of obsession with his Woman.
We had a rainbow of emotions with this one... I snort laughed at Kaya and Chloe’s (and Kenno’s) antics, swooned every time Xander looked at his “Woman”, and ugly cried over Bronson’s letter. I cringed, I smiled fondly, I scoffed, I squirmed uncomfortably, I cried some more and had to hide my blush every time Xander growled.
The story line is brilliant and so different to what I was expecting. The writing is stellar, the characters well developed and engaging and as it’s the last in the series (I’m not pouting, you are ☹️) we got to see the boys and their beauties basking in their individual HEAs. Wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from Xander Butcher…turns out he is the perfect combo of sweet and dirty.
This is story of childhood trauma, past hurts, brotherly love and the type of love it takes to calm the monsters. Xander and Kaya together are a perfect match and they understand each other like no one else can. This is an emotional read for varying reasons so I advise to have tissues on standby as we say finished (not goodbye) to the Butcher Brothers.
Congrats Nicci on producing an outstanding series, that will we forever one of my favourites.
This series is one of my favorite ! Nicci Harris knows how to write a book 🙌🏽 Xander is sweet sexy and damaged. Kaya is so stubborn and she’s a goes through a lot in this book. This book has so much story to it. So much stuff happens with both of these characters but you see them grow and I can’t believe this is the last book in the series ! I’m seriously going to miss it but I’ll definitely be rereading thank you Nicci for this ARC ♥️♥️♥️
Please read trigger warning for this book before reading
WOW, just WOW. 5/5 ⭐️ 3.5/5 🌶 In true Nicci fashion, she did not fail to deliver a great book!
We are ending the Butcher Boys stories with the youngest brother Xander. He is a hot-headed, charismatic possessive boxer filled with sunshine. He and Kayas' story is felt so deep within you that you can't help but fall in love with them both. Both are dealing with personal issues. Parts of this story will absolutely break your heart, but don’t worry, it will get put back together again. We get to see how these two grow as both individuals and as a couple, and let me tell you, it's freaking amazing. You will see that the Butcher boys all love each unconditionally as well as how strong their bond really is. As with any of Nicci’s books, you get the spice you're looking for in a romance book, but you also get an amazing plot and storyline.
I thought that I was ready for this book, but I was not. There were so many emotions going through me during this read. I laughed, I cried A LOT, I fell in love with Xander and got to see some amazing appearances by the other brothers in this story. This book is emotionally raw and deep.
To Nicci: Thank you! Thank you for bringing the Butcher Boys into my life when I was losing all hope of finding anything meaningful in my life. You are one of the authors that brought out my joy of reading and gave me something to look forward to each day. You are part of the reason I am still here, and for that, I thank you. I love being part of your team of Brats. I can't wait to see what is to come still from you.
If you have not done so, you need to read this series. Max is freaking amazing. Bronson is unhinged. Clay is well, Daddy Clay. Xander is just swoon worthy.
⭐️Firstly, thank you SO SO SO much Nicci Harris for sending me and ARC⭐️ . 🖤Wow. I have been such a fan of this series since I read Max and Cassidy’s book about a year ago and immediately dived into Bronson and Clays stories. I love all the brothers but Xander now holds such a soecial place in my heart, as well as his “woman,” Kaya.
I didn’t know what to expect from Xander’s story but after finishing it im in complete awe of his and Kaya’s stories both separately and together in their relationship. Readers really get to go on such an emotionlly rae journey with these two and it is such a freaking page turner. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop…trust me.🖤
🔥As always…it was spicy in the absolute best wayssss. Oh Xander🥵 I actually really think the spicey scenes and the plot worked so seamlessly and I felt as though I were truly reading a story of two peoples journey and not JUST a romance. Truly and exceptional book Nicci and I hope we see more of the Butcher boys in the future because wow…am I gonna miss them.🔥
I had very high hopes for baby Butcher Xander. Unfortunately, his story fell flat for me. I guess with the mafia plot resolved in the last book, the high stakes were gone and I was left to connect with just the characters... but I didn't connect sadly. I couldn't even believe THEY connected.
Xander and Kaya's story was fast paced and full of only adrenaline induced moments. We know a ton about Xander but very little about Kaya and her family. I mean, she's 1 of 4 daughters but I felt like she read as am only child, dealing with the family fallout. And honestly, her character annoyed me. Siding with her father over her mother? Boooo. Wish it didn't take her the entire book to realize the fault in her ways ugh. And because I feel like I know a ton about Xander in the previous books, I feel like his character changed in this one. Idk.
Just overall very little and underdeveloped plot, but full of the steaminess you've been reading in the rest of the series. I truly almost DNF'd but wanted to trudge through it in order to read their epilogues.
I laughed and mostly balled my eyes out, xanders story is definitely was much much different from the other butcher boys to have him grow up going through so much taking such abuse from such an evil woman who was supposed to be there for him and love him to being raised by 2 of his brothers that would do anything for him ,to find out he has a serious brain disease. He finally finds love in a the form of the beautiful Kaya who is just has broken a in need of love finding each other and healing in the only way they know how it breaks your heart and puts it together all in one..the passion between them is unimaginable it can melt even the coldest of hearts.im going to miss all the butcher men and their lovely ladies but it's not a goodbye it's finished.

I knew it would be perfect!! This book can be read as a standalone but I’m here to testify that reading this whole series has been one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had. Xander’s story was so gripping and raw and just perfect. There were parts that made me literally laugh out loud, parts that made me swoon, parts that made me cry and parts that made me get angry. I feel like I actually know these characters and all of The Butcher Boys’ stories have been amazing. I’ll never be able to pick a favorite among this series but This one took my breath at times and I know that I’ll always have a big space in my black heart for Xander. If you’re reading this review please listen to me when I say you have to read it. You’ll be missing out on a beautiful thing.
I can’t. If you haven’t read The Kids of the District series you are seriously missing out. This is the last book in the series and I am so sad to have to let my butcher boys go. I didn’t expect to like Xander. But I am completely blown away. This book is so raw and emotional and you get a beautiful ending for not only Xander but all of the Butcher boys. I cried for probably the last 6 chapters, and that’s saying a lot for me because I NEVER cry. Nicci sure does know how to play with my heart strings. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
I can't believe that's it... the final book of The Kids of The District, the final Butcher Boys story... I loved this book from beginning to end. The story of Xander and Kaya took me through a roller coaster of emotion. From laughter to tears and everything in between. It took me less than 24 hours to read this, I was hooked the entire way through. I don't think I'm ready to let the District go, but that ending was amazing closure, and I'm so glad that it ended the way it did.
Just wow! I was not expecting that 😭 but honestly I don’t know what I was expecting! Xanders story really tugs at your heartstrings. Between the ups and downs that he’s had throughout his brothers books, this really brought everything together. I will admit, at first I did not like Kaya, but I grew to love her too, and the way that they both bring each other up was just beautiful! Thank you for such an amazing book, and beautiful series!
My emotions were all over the place reading this. I couldn't put this down. This was emotional and beautiful. I loved it. This book is full of angst. A must READ. Also, keep a tissue around while reading. I love Xander so much. The chemistry between Xander and Kayas was amazing and their story was so beautifully written. Xander and Kaya were each going through an emotional tough time when they met. Spicy and hot🔥🌶️. I can't wait to read the entire book in the series.
This was Xander's story and the last of the four Butcher brothers series. This story was heartbreaking and we saw how it bonded all the brothers together. Xander and Kaya completed each other and Kaya showed strength with his diagnosis and was still willing to stand by him.
I'm sad to see this story end although I have noticed 2 additional standalones so I'll be jumping into these next.
Xander goes to Grayson’s house and interrupts him with a beautiful girl and tells him he needs to leave young girls alone. He finds the girl Kaya and they have an intense attraction and connection. Kaya finds out her dad is under arrest and wants to help him. Xander can’t seem to stay away from Kaya and she keeps fighting her feelings. One night changes everything and her feelings change towards him. As always in the district the hits keep coming. Can Xander and Kaya survive the changes ? Great characters and Storyline Highly Recommended Amazing book Love Xander and Kaya. The supporting characters are excellent and this book has all the feels. Perfect ending. Love the Butcher Boys
... Xander, the newest addition to my book boyfriend club. I skipped all the brothers' books because I just had to read Xander's. I was really enjoying the pull of their relationship despite the cloudy prose. Unfortunately, Kaya has got to be the stupidest h I have ever read.
I didn't really buy the chemistry between Xander and Kaya. I do love sweet, broken Xander though and his piercings!
I also loved the final chapter with the Butcher brothers and their father, Luca. My heart broke and healed with Luca's honesty. Beautifully tied up the series.

I… I have no words. I wasn’t prepared to give a piece of my heart to Xander but I did it anyways. I’m destroyed we are done with the kids of the district for now but let me tell you it ended perfectly 🥺🥺🥺
