A Joyce & Ginger Mystery #2

Murder in the Wings: An English Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
Joyce and Ginger, friends as close as they are different, head to London for a weeklong getaway; Joyce to spend hours shopping while Ginger takes in the museums before they reconvene each evening in the cocktail bars of the city. First on their list, however, is a visit to Kenneth, an old friend of Joyce’s glamorous high-kicking Tiller-Girl mother. Kenneth, now in his eighties, is suspicious about the death of one of his peers and has been asking questions. Joyce, on the other hand, dismisses his fears as a severe case of old age. But when Kenneth is found murdered, she has to do something that will never come easily to admit she was wrong.

Joyce and Ginger make a formidable sleuthing partnership whenever murder crosses their path, but this time it’s personal. They must delve into the past of Joyce’s late mother, a woman as strong-willed as her daughter, scrutinising her friends and their relationships. Have old jealousies, lies and prejudices resurfaced to seek revenge?

Ginger’s background in the wardrobe departments of London theatres comes in handy as the pair try to solve a murder or two, all the while making sure Joyce has time to add to her shoe collection. There’s also the small matter of avoiding becoming the killer’s next victims…

What a wonderful time I had exploring London with Ginger and Joyce! I just finished reading my review copy of Murder in the Wings, by Kate P. Adam's, and it left me wanting the book to continue into Ginger & Joyce's next vacation together. These two ladies have a warm, fun relationship in spite of their many differences, and they work well together to solve unexpected mysteries. Pick this one up. You'll be glad you did!

Cozy mystery With funny characters

Murder in the Wings is the 2nd book in The Joyce and Ginger Mysteries. The.characters Joyce and Ginger have very different personalities but are good friends. Joyce is in the Charleston House series. She manages the shops and has been divorced a few times. In this series, she is on vacation in London with her lesbian friend Ginger. They make a funny pair. Joyce likes clothes shopping and Ginger would rather go to a museum. In this book, they are visiting Joyce's mother's friend from her dancing days. The man is murdered and was looking into a death from years ago. Joyce and Ginger want to help solve the crime. This continues to be an enjoyable series. I received an advance copy from Kate P Adams for an honest review. #MurderInTheWings

I have been a fan of Kate P Adams’ writing since the very first Charleton House mystery. I loved Murder En Suite (the first book in the Joyce & Ginger series), so naturally I read Murder in the Wings as soon as I received it.

I enjoyed this book so much. I wasn’t feeling well when I picked it up, and it was a wonderful distraction.

I loved reuniting with Joyce and Ginger. They’re such a great pair of characters. Joyce is quite out there sometimes, but she’s got a great heart. Ginger is quieter, but just as strong minded as Joyce. I love reading their banter, watching them interact is so much fun, and they’re also becoming really good friends. I love their determination to have fun AND find out the truth.

I also loved the mystery, which involves the past as well as the present. As always, it’s very well written, and I didn’t guess who the culprit was until very near the end.

If you’re looking for a fun story, with a great friendship and an interesting murder mystery, look no further. I can’t wait to see what Joyce and Ginger get up to on their next trip!

I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

Great cozy mystery

This is the second book in the Joyce and Ginger mystery series by Kate P Adams. As a long time fan of the Charlton house mysteries, I already was familiar with Joyce Brocklehurst, the manager of the Charlton house gift shop. Always a character with a wild and colorful wardrobe and an eye for a handsome man, she is a perfect fit for her own series. And her lesbian friend Ginger Salt is the perfect companion in both traveling and solving mysteries.

When the two traveled to London for a vacation, they stopped in to visit an old friend of Joyce's late mother. Kenneth, a widower in his 80s, told them he had been thinking about an unsolved murder back in the 1950s when Joyce's mother had been one of the "Tiller Girls," a troupe of dancers on the London stage.

A day or two later Kenneth's housekeeper Nancy called Joyce to say Kenneth had been murdered the night before. Was there a connection between his death and his recent obsession about the old murder? Joyce and Ginger decided to follow up on Kenneth's meager evidence which included old photographs of Joyce's mother and her friends back in the 1940s and 50s at the same time as they continued to shop (Joyce), visit galleries (Ginger) and eat and drink at fancy London restaurants while they followed leads (both).

Such a fun story, characters and mystery. I do wonder how the two main characters get through all their adventures drinking so much wine and cocktails! But it never seems to slow them down.

God, I love these two!

"Ginger was fun company no matter where they went, and Joyce was more than capable of singlehandedly increasing the glamour quota, if she did say so herself." -- This encapsulates these ladies perfectly and goes a long way to explaining why they quickly grabbed the heart of Adams' readers.

While Joyce and Ginger are on a week's vacation in London, Kenneth - a very old friend of Joyce's mother - intrigues the ladies with a tale of a long-unsolved murder. Though it happened close to 70 years ago, the old roue is convinced that the recent death of one of his oldest friends is related to that long ago unsolved case. In turn, Joyce can't help but embroil herself and Ginger in its murky depths.

This time, the ladies find out that the solution to a mystery doesn't always turn out to be one that they like. Engaging characters, a thought-provoking plot line, and truly great bits of humour, all converge to make Murder in the Wings a great read!

And on an entirely unrelated note, from now on, I'll be having nappetisers while everyone else is merely sleeping!

Book two in another fun series with Joyce, the flamboyant character in the Charlton House series who runs a gift shop there. In this book with lots of laughs along with a murder mystery of a cold case and a present one, we are taken on a fun page turning ride that you just can't put down. When Joyce and her friend Gail decide to take a vacation of shopping and fun in London, Joyce wants to visit an old friend of her mother's, Kenneth, from years ago. He is 80 and tells the girls of an unusual cold case around the time Joyce's mother was one in a troupe of dances on stage. Then when the girls are told that Kenneth has been murdered, we are taken on a roller coaster ride with the girls as they try to figure out the murders both the cold one and Kenneth's and how are they connected? This is a fun series and the banter between Joyce and Gail is fun. I can't wait to see what they get into next! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Joyce and Ginger are back, this time in London's theatreland helping an old friend of Joyce's mother investigate the death of someone they used to work with when Joyce's mother was a Tiller-Girl. But when her mother's old friend is killed then it becomes personal for Joyce, so she and Ginger begin to delve deeper into the mystery...

It was great to be back in the company of Joyce and Ginger, two formidable woman who on the surface of it couldn't be more different but who compliment each other so well that as a team they are a force to be reckoned with. I love the way they bounce off each other, playing to their strengths in each given situation.

This is a fabulous, easy-to-read, cozy murder mystery with engaging characters and a twisty plot that will keep you guessing right through to the end. Recommended.

This time we see Joyce and Ginger in London. They go to visit an old friend of Joyce’s mother, who mentioned that someone had died recently & had got him interested in solving an ancient murder! Shortly afterwards he is murdered & so (naturally!) Joyce has to solve both cases. Joyce & Ginger go to tell another lady who danced with Joyce’s mother about his death. There is a lot of interesting information to be got behind the scenes and they get that from the Stage Door man, who was a very young man when Joyce’s mother was dancing. They also have a lot of photos given them which Joyce really appreciates. This is another interesting read.

This is the second book in the series and Joyce and Ginger are off to London for the weekend. They stop in to visit Kenneth, a friend from Joyce’s mom’s stage days, and are surprised to find that Kenneth’s friend recently died after looking into a long ago unsolved murder. When Kenneth also dies they decide to investigate and discover that the original murder victim actually wasn’t a very nice guy and had plenty of enemies. Joyce and Ginger are fun to watch as they sleuth, and their very different personalities are often good for laughs! I received an advance copy of this book from the author and write this review voluntarily.

This, the second book in the series, is not as much out and out fun as the first, but is very insightful. Joyce and Ginger vacation in London. A visit to one of Joyce’s friends from her Mother’s dancing days as a Tiller Girl leads them to help solve a murder from long ago as well as one yet to happen. Are the murders connected? Is the murderer the grandson, the stage doorman, an art collector seeking the return of paintings sold by relatives or maybe someone else? You will learn the answers as first Ginger, then Joyce spot the killer.

This is the 2nd book in the Joyce and Ginger mystery series, and I think it's brilliant. Any time I can laugh and cry in the same book is a great read for me. Joyce and Ginger are completely likable protagonists and I hope their shenanigans continue for a long time. We learn a little about Joyce's childhood in this book and we also delve a little into Ginger's life. The story is well written, and the murder wasn't easy to solve. I loved hanging out in London with these 2 ladies. I received an ARC of this book and I'm voluntarily providing an honest review.

Joyce and Ginger are returning with a trip to London. They’re staying in Ginger’s friend’s flat and plan to visit a few friends of Joyce’s mother who was a dancer. While visiting an old friend, he brings up an old murder in the theater that was never solved. When he turns up dead, Joyce and Ginger are determined to solve this murder as well as the old one.

I love these books with Joyce and Ginger. They seem to be unlikely friends but enjoy their trips. And they love to solve a mystery.

What an adventure for this duo! Joyce and Ginger take a vacation to London to see some museums and to shop. Joyce wanted to also see some friends of her mother from years ago. However, a murder soon sends the pair into sleuthing mode. So many possible suspects and, as usual, I didn’t figure it out.

What an exciting mystery! Solving an old murder as well as a recent one! Joyce and Ginger definitely have the sleuthing ability. Each has her own special aspect but together they make a formidable team. I loved how Ginger dealt with the persistent man at the dance studio and how she ‘encouraged’ Joyce to dance with her on the train back home. I loved this book!

This series is related to the previous one re Charleton House, but oddly taking the least pleasant character and giving her her own series. I have to admit further acquaintance hasn't improved her or her execrable fashion sense. So if you love Joyce from the 1st series, you'll love these, if not, probably not.

This is a spin off of the Charleton House mystery series, featuring Joyce Brocklehurst and her friend Ginger. They head to London for a week's holiday, and call in on a friend of Joyce's mother. The next day he is murdered. Joyce can’t keep her nose out of the investigation.

The second entry in Author Kate P Adams new series about Joyce Brocklehurst and her best friend - Ginger Salt.

We first met Joyce as a central character in the Charelton House Mysteries and if you haven’t read them you really should. Great series with a number of interesting characters and very entertaining stories.

Aside from the fact that Murder in the Wings is another gem, Kate provides much more insight into the two main characters. When I read a series of novels, I look for the characters to continue to develop in each succeeding entry.

We know Joyce, from the Charleton House mysteries as an extremely stylish, somewhat sarcastic - that may be an understatement - woman who takes a backseat to no one, but in Murder in the Wings we learn much, much more about her background , her mother, and her early life. Very interesting.

Of course, we also learn much more about Ginger too and gain more insight into Joyce’s traveling companion.

The verbal sparring sessions between the two are really all in good fun, but very entertaining.
They’re truly a good match for each other.

In the latest episode the ladies are off to London for shopping, sightseeing, shopping (Joyce enjoys shopping. Ginger enjoys seeing the sights.) and fine dining, a few drinks and for Joyce to visit an old friend of mother’s from her mother’s days as a dancer on stage.

Most of the people they meet with are from the days long ago when they all were connected to the stage in one role or another. The member of the group whom Joyce visits relays his concerns about one of the group whose long ago murder is as yet unsolved.

Let the good times roll. Take the train from Derbyshire to London and enjoy the sights, the drinks and the dining and maybe solve a murder or two…

Joyce and Ginger have a full week to spend in London. First on their agenda is a visit to Kenneth Gaddy, an old friend of Joyce's mother. Kenneth told Joyce and Ginger about the unfortunate death of a long-time friend, Sheridan Knight. It seems that Sheridan had been looking into the death of Scroop Harrison de Clare from many years earlier. It seems that Scroop was not very popular and was often downright mean, so nobody seemed to mourn is passing. Following Sheridan's death, Kenneth decides to look further into Scrooop's death.

Later, Joyce is shopping for a new dress and after leaving the shop, she receives a phone call from Nancy Binns telling her that Kenneth is dead. Somebody broke into the house the previous evening and killed him. As a result of the disheartening news, Joyce and Ginger decide to look into Kenneth's death themselves.

Who killed Kenneth? Was his death related to the earlier killing of Scroop? Was Sheridan's death also related to the earlier killing? Can Joyce and Ginger unravel the mystery without becoming the next victims?

Kate Adams has another fantastic mystery in this latest episode. There are plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep the reader engaged throughout. The story also includes snippets of London sights and theater settings to add to the reading enjoyment.

A trip to London to relax and enjoy themselves doesn't go as planned. An old friend of Joyce's Tiller Girl mother asked for their help finding who killed an abusive bully back in 1953. Right after their visit he's murdered. The ladies decide to discreetly ask a few questions. For Joyce it brings back memories of her childhood. She's determined to find out who committed this crime. I enjoy these ladies. They are intelligent, feisty and full of life. Kate P Adams has written a fast paced story filled with an interesting plot and plenty of suspects. Joyce and Ginger are constantly surprising me with the ingenuity. The dialogue sparkles with the sass and snark. I was hooked. I didn't want to stop reading until I knew what had happened. The ending took me by surprise. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Joyce and Ginger.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Joyce and Ginger visit London expecting to spend their time shopping (Joyce!) and visiting museums and bookstores (Ginger), they expect to do some fine dining and imbibing as well. They don't expect to become embroiled in a murder or two along the way but, as seems inevitable when these two are together, this kind of thing seems to happen.
A fascinating tale of drama filled with theatrical characters! Proving that murder and hilarity can co-exist Joyce unwittingly and most certainly unwillingly, provides a little cameo performance in a very upmarket store before a small but enthusiastic group of teenage girls and their mobiles.

With their cuttingly witty dialogue Joyce and Ginger ensure that there is never a dull moment, red herrings abound and the denouement brings the performance to a satisfying end.

Murder in the Wings most definitely deserves a standing ovation!

I read this book as an ARC. My review is voluntary and my own honest opinion.

Another great "Joyce and Ginger" novel, and there is so much here! The two characters deliver more wonderful witty repartee, and as always, the background history and local color of London take you right into the story and make you feel like you're right there. - Ginger's mother was a Tiller Girl (do look them up if you've never heard of them) and Ginger and Joyce take time on their London jaunt to visit a friend of hers who was also involved in show business. When he is found dead, the two ladies first wonder, and then start to investigate. Twists and turns and atmosphere - you won't want to stop! - I'm leaving this honest review after receiving an advance copy.

Another delightful adventure of the two unlikely friends - the down to earth (even so she worked in the costum department of many theaters) Ginger and flamoyend Joyce enjoy a relaxing trip to London.
It seems that also this visit won't be very relaxing because after visiting an old friend of Joyce's mum (a former Tiller Girl) they are confronted with the possiblity of a more recent murder and the research into an unsolved actual murder many years ago when Joyce's mum was still an active dancer.

Fun and witty as only Ginger and Joyce can be. I'm very much looking forward to their next "adventure" .
