The problem? I don’t know if I can ever trust another person again.
When HIS calling card shows up, can I trust Greer to protect me?
Greer Getting my business off the ground is the most important thing – blinders on and no distractions. Except, I meet Kit. She’s funny, smart, fierce and has more determination than most people I know. And she’s bringing chaos into my life. When she ends up at my cabin, a snowstorm traps us together. Everything about her is guarded. I ache to be the one to soothe her. And the more she lets me in, the more my soul screams one thing. Mine. Goodness this book was living in my brain for years. When I started writing it, I didn’t know exactly where it was going to take me or how it would end.
I’m so proud of everything in this book. The most rewarding part has been the people who tell me they felt Kit, they lived her and felt every aspect of her story.
Thank you for letting me share their story with you all! I hope you fall in love with Greer as much as I did. I hope you love Kit and her strength as much as I did.
The hero, Greer, proposes to his girlfriend, Nora, and she says no. Great start to a book, I say “no.” Greer tells his gf that she will be the one that got away. And he will die a childless and bitter man. Lovely… I hate pinning for the old girlfriends. A few chapters later he said he did not care about Nora because he say Kit at the gas station and wanted to know her.
This did not work for me. DNF
I loved the premise, but there were a lot of issues for me. It all felt forced. A lot of inner monologue. There is a a lot of character development if you like that before the story begins between the characters. There was a frequent switch in POVs which I feel took away from the story. Greer’s POV had a feminine tone. Better to stick with one POV sometimes. My opinion. Good luck.
"Without expectation, without wanting anything in return, I am always yours."
Of Lilies and Lies written by Margaux Porter was a real treat. I was taken on a emotional roller coaster, I felt personally connected to the characters. I love getting to know them and Greer is my favorite cinnamon roll of a man.
Kit and Greer are a powerful couple, they both learn and grow from each other. They never hold each other back and always want for the best. The twist and turns the couple faced made them ever stronger.
“Without expectation, without wanting anything in return, I love you.”❤️
This book is about Kit and Greer, and their journey to finding love, to be able to trust and to be free from past trauma. My heart broke for Kit and what she has been thru, and Greer has to be one of the sweetest book boyfriend ever😭❤️
This book will be Margaux Porter debut book and holy cow! She hit it right off the ball park! When I was about few chapters in, I had to reach out and ask her if this was her debut book. She writes so beautifully, capturing the feelings and emotions. The story line, the characters and the spice was PERFECT! I’m so glad and honored that I was able to do an ARC review for her debut.
•If Kit had her own anthem it would be ‘Unstoppable’ by Sia •If Kit and Greer has a song it has to be ‘Dandelions’ by Ruth B.
A stunningly brilliant and heartfelt tale of love and the ways fate. I was instantly invested in Kit and Greer's story and by the end I was in love. The emotions were palpable and relationships realistic. How this is a debut novel is beyond me. I will be purchasing and reading everything Margaux writes and I expect she has just barely dipped into her well of talent.
How is it possible that an authors debut novel can be this good? It made me feel every emotion known to human kind, ripped my heart from my chest, and put it back together. Such an amazing story! Kit & Greer are both complex deep characters that are absolutely perfect for each other. I am looking forward to reading more by Margaux Porter in the future!
Hands down, the best book I have read in a very long time. It was so suspenseful and kept me on edge as well as in love with the characters. Definitely pay attention to the TW, they aren’t bad but can trigger someone who’s been in the same situation as Kit or is going thru it now. This book played with my emotions so much lol you will fall in love with Greer and if you don’t know much about PTSD or how abuse works long term, this book will definitely give you an insight and understanding what someone who’s been thru it is feeling and what kind of demons they have to live with till they are fully ready to heal. If you haven’t read this book yet, you are missing out. There’s a bit of sexual content that’s great for the smut lovers 😉 definitely a 10/10 story and definitely worth buying.
Where do I begin? Margaux, you are a born storyteller and the way you amplify love over trauma is so wonderful. Kit needed so much care and love and I adored the way Greer stepped up right from the beginning. Her adamant strength even though she knew the dangers that lurked and wanted to face them head on gave ME so much confidence to face my trauma too.
Loved everything about this book AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE REST OF GREER’S SIBLING STORIES!
“Because when I find myself again, I want to do it without being haunted by my past”
Wow. I felt every emotion throughout this book. My heart went from racing to dropping to my stomach. There were times I was smiling like a dang fool and actually swooning.
I just adore the MC’s. Kit is so strong & Greer can do no wrong. Absolutely obsessed.
Such a beautiful story about healing that still kept me on the edge of my seat & definitely one I will think about for a while.
Kit is trying to find herself again after years of abuse and being widowed. Kit is hesitant to believe that her husband is dead even after 3 years of him being missing. When Kit decides to move home and find herself again the last person she expects to run into is the man she met at the gas station months before she ever moved.
Greer has to do some searching after his relationship breaks apart. Realizing that neither party was in the relationship for more then convenience they decided to part ways. Greer goes on a work trip across the country and meets a stunning redhead at a gas station. Even though he wants to see her again he doesn’t come across her until one day back home he runs into her.
Kit and Greer have many huge obstacles to overcome. Huge twists and turns you’d never see coming.
While I enjoyed this story and personally felt connected to the characters in some cases this is a medium burn and it felt like a lot of the beginning characters got dropped off in the second half of the book. A few mentions but essentially they weren’t included anymore.
Check the TWs, some include DV, r@p3, m!sc@rri@ge, vi0lenc3, @tt3mpt3d mûrd3r, st@lk!ng, @nxiety, p@nic @tt@cks, PTSD, cheating (not between the MMC and FMC)
Excuse me, Margaux??? This book was great! It’s had all the ingredients needed for a great love story. Dual POV, forced proximity, man falls first, and so much more. I went into this pretty blind, but I’m glad I did. Kit and Greer are absolutely everything. Greer had me absolutely swooning over him! This book had me feeling so many emotions. I promise you, you have no idea where this book is going to take you! ♥️
CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS! Some heavy topics are covered.
Of Lilies and Lies is the debut book written by Margaux Porter and it was a solid 5-star read for me. There are some pretty heavy trigger warnings, so be sure to check those out prior to reading the book.
The story is about Kit aka Katherine, and Greer. Although it is a romance story, it also has a little mystery/suspense throughout. I definitely was not expecting the twist at the end!
The story follows Kit and Greer, and their journey to not only finding each other, but also finding themselves.
Reading about Kit and Greer's journey was a pleasure. Margaux's writing had me feeling every emotion, right along with the characters. After suffering from unimaginable trauma at the hands of her, now dead, husband, Kit is left feeling like she was never enough, scared, broken, and full of panic and anxiety. After meeting Greer, Kit slowly starts to realize that none of those things are true. Greer has all the qualities that her husband never showed -- genuine love, compassion, empathy, and patience. He instills in her that she was never weak, but strong and a survivor. He takes his time with her; gives her the space she needs when she needs it. Before meeting Kit, Greer has also, to an extent, closed himself off from his family, for different reasons. He immerses himself in his work, as a distraction, to replace something that he himself has never known, true love. Greer first meets Kit, randomly, at a gas station in California, during a work trip. It wasn't until months later, that they meet up again in her hometown, where coincidently he is also from. What starts off as chaotic and full of the unknown, turns into a beautiful love story of two people just wanting to be genuinely loved and understood.
I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to be an ARC reader for Margaux's debut book. I loved everything about the story. Margaux did an excellent job with the character development as well.
Kit after her husband has been missing for 2 years with nobody they say he is dead so they buried the coffin with no body, Kit has suffered many years of abuse from her ex-husband.
Kit first meets Greer at the gas pumps and he asks her out so, But Kit says no because she says she not ready after everything that as happened
Kit decides to go back home after years of not seeing her family, to try and start new.
Greer can not stop thinking of kit since he as been back there was just something about her, he see her again in the store and it does not really go well as he tries to tell her what she wants and she does not like that so when he asks her out again she says no,
Kit finds a number on the ice cream pot and after a while she phones him and they go out the date but it does not go well, she leaves but she will not call him or text him back,
Kit as had some dates but she still can't forget Greer, she is on a date before she is meant to drive up to a cabin, that her sister boss owns and go there for a week, But when she gets there in the snowstorm the lights go out and Greer thinks it's someone breaking in so ends up pinning her to the bed where she fights back and saying please stop, when he realises its a woman and then that's it kit,
Greer and Kit have to stay together because of the snow, Greer besides to take his time with Kit so that maybe Kit will start to trust him, Kit can't stop thinking of Greer and how patient he is and because of that they start seeing each other.
Kits past seems to be coming back to get her, she as to decide if she will let Greer in or not,
Will Kit get the happiness she deserves after everything she has been through?
I just want to start this off I knew when I received this book it was a romance book, but was not expecting how darn romantic it was... and everyone deserves a Greer that can speak to you like your the most precious individual in the world and love on you unconditionally.
The emotional gymnastics this books takes you on it crazy...I was to the point I had to literally put the book down to walk off the extreme emotional reaction I had to Greer and Kit individual and couple situations. This was a lesson in growth emotionally from both of these characters. Kit went through years of abuse and at the same time finding herself a widow, but didn't believe it because of all the trauma she endured. This relationship was a serendipity fate moment meeting a man at the gas station and months later to being with this man who was a stranger before...this was like souls reaching out for its other halves to become whole. Greer a man who has a lot of soul searching he needs to make peace with and a heart that needs mending finds closure and healing with Kit. Both Kit and Greer are pulling at your heart strings as they weave through trauma, mistrust, and self discovery.
I enjoyed that the author wrote it from the POV of both characters it brought a lot of depth into the story and made the emotional parts so much more realistic. Greer is a classic man, a romantic man, a broken man, a man who says his love and shows it. I enjoyed this damn book so much that I am literally starting over reading it again because this is no way a debut book because GAWD...it is so good. I literally had tears in my eyes for some scenes in this book because it really had me in love with these characters. Yes ...this is a great and awesome read !
Margaux Porter's debut novel is an amazing emotional rollercoaster. A few times I had to pause my reading just to think everything through. I wish I could have just sat down and read this book through in a day, but unfortunately life and work didn't let me.
Throughout the book, we follow Kit who is on her healing journey trying to find herself again after many hard years. Kit moves home from California to reconnect with her family. What she didn't expect was to run into the man she met at a gas station before she moved and can't stop thinking about.
Kit and Greer are those characters who will stick with you. Kit is a strong woman who is a widow healing from an abusive marriage. She is sassy and caring. Greer is a patient, caring, and protective man. He is the one who will make you swoon. Each of their family members are amazing and supportive. I want to hear more about each of them. The banter between characters is funny and heart warming.
I loved seeing Kit and Greer's growth throughout the book. So many emotions provoked through their struggles and wins. There is the perfect depth to each character to feel like you really know them as a person or friend. The twists and surprises in the plot kept me turning the pages. You'll be torn and emotional, but patched up, smiling with tears in your eyes at the end.
"Without expectation, without wanting anything in return, I love you."
Run and get this book. I can't wait to read more of Margaux next novels.
I received this book as an eARC all thoughts and opinions are my own
✅forced proximity ✅suspense ✅finding yourself again ✅cinnamon roll hero ✅dual pov
Kit’s husband Ethan has been missing for the past 3 years and she couldn’t be happier now that they’ve has a funeral. After being abused for years she moves back home to rekindle her relationship with her parents and to heal her wounds and find herself. Along the way she finds Greer. He's different; calming, and soothing in a way she never experienced. Can Kit let of of her past and let Greer in?
Kit thinks of herself as being weak, but she’s such a badass ! I loved seeing her confidence grow throughout the story! Greer is literally perfect he’s really hot, extremely patient, caring and loving. I’m so happy with how the ending turned out and that Greer and Kit both got everything they wanted even if there was lots of emotional turmoil to get there.
My favourite quotes:
“My heart is so full, it wants to burst. Is this what love feels like? Happiness is being lost in the moment. Love is feeling like you’re going to burst.”
“I know it’s hard to let go and trust in something you’re not sure of. But sometimes you have to leap to grow.”
Of Lilies and Lies is Margaux Porters first book, and I definitely recommend you read this!!
It starts off at her husband's gravesite. It's been over 2 years since he disappeared.
Kit (Katherine) She has had a rough marriage, to say the least, but she's strong and is pushing forward with her life.. Her husband was horrible to her, and the surprise that got dropped on her ..wow
Greer is just getting out of a relationship. Kit moves home, and they meet again in a grocery store in Stirling Harbor. He insisted that she try coffee ice cream so much, so he got it for her and put his number on the bottom of it! They go on a date; it doesn't end well. Then they've got some forced proximity!!! woah, does the book get SO good, and you think you've got something figured out and NOPE, I've got to say I should have seen it coming, but I didn't! That's how well the book is written. It is a major page turner, that's for sure, but in the BEST of ways!
I don't want to ruin someone else's reading by giving away any spoilers, but I can not believe this is Margaux Porters first book! Wow, it was great!! The character building was amazing. Their growth throughout the book is well written. It sure does take you through emotions. Read the triggers. I didn't want this book to end, but I loved how it did!
I never expected to experience what I experienced with Of Lilies and Lies as it punched me hard in the feels. Kit has been through hell in her marriage, and there are lasting effects of course with trust issues at the very top of the list. Greer is our amazing hero, who also has some issues with relationships though nowhere on the spectrum of Kit. Fate steps in, and these two people come face to face but the timing wasn't right, however, fate is tenacious and they would come face to face again. They end up stranded in his cabin during a snowstorm, and it's instantly apparent they are perfect for each other, but Kit has those trust issues. Greer is definitely up for the challenge, and somewhere along the way, Kit starts to let him in more & more. This story was so emotional as I felt like I was going through everything with Kit in person, and of course I was falling in love with Greer, just quicker LOL! There's also heat and even some suspense so this book was the perfect experience for me, and I'm super excited to see more from Margaux Porter in the future! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Kit is dealing with a lot and Greer needs to find a balance in his life.
I absolutely hate abusers. Regardless of who it is that's doing it. What Kit went through is awful and it definitely was tough to read. Even after his "death" she still struggled. Then along came Greer.
I love how these two find each other and how Greer really lets Kit take the lead. He's so patient and understanding with her, even on that first date.
I felt the tension of waiting for the dead ex husband to show up at some inopportune time all the way through and I was not expecting what occurred.
The story was spicy and fun and tense all at the same time.
There are definitely a few trigger warnings that you should look out for and the author has popped them at the start of the book so you know what to expect. All in all it was such a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
We meet Kit who after her abusive husband vanishes, she moves back home to heal and find herself. While there she also meets Greer. They have an instant connection and both cannot stop thinking of the other. But trusting again is something that is hard for Kit. While Greer has been career focused and coming out of a recent relationship.
This story was amazing! I was all over the place with the emotions that this story had me in. It is such a powerfully emotional story.
There were so many twists that hooked me in that I soon found myself at the end of the book.
The growth that both characters had together made them stronger and the story shine.
“Without expectation, without wanting anything in return, I love you.”
I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.
Tropes: ✔️insta attraction (mostly on his side) ✔️big tough man who’s actually a teddy bear ✔️FMC that overcomes her anxiety ✔️surprise pregnancy
Triggers: 🛑abusive relationship (past)/mentions of abuse (flashbacks/memories 🛑attempted murder 🛑infertility 🛑miscarriage (mentioned ) 🛑rape (mentioned about in conversation) 🛑SA (past some depicted) 🛑stalking
Holy guacamole. This book was a roller coaster of feels. First and foremost. Kit is strong AF. Overcoming her anxiety and dealing with her PTSD as well as not backing down when it came to what she wanted and about being afraid. She deserves a happily ever after. Greer. Giant teddy bear who came off strong at first but all because he wasn’t used to those feelings. We need more Greers in a the world that have a lot of patience and are extremely caring and loving.
Greers brothers always made me laugh when they tried to rile Greer up by flirting with Kit 😂
Overall this book was so beautifully written. I could not put it down!
Thank you so much for the arc in exchange for an honest review
Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
Kit is trying to piece her life back together after her abusive husband dies. She has been trying to put her life back together for the past 3 years but there's just too much history. She thinks the best thing to do is move back to her childhood hometown and make amends with her family, on her way home she runs into a handsome stranger Greer, but that is the last she will ever see of him surely!?
Wow! Honestly wow. This book is thrilling and captivating from the start. I enjoy the way Margaux has written from both Kit and Greer's perspectives, it gives you an insight into what they're both thinking and feeling. There is a lot to process in the story abuse, rape, violence, and trauma which brings a lot of emotion with it. I felt that from both parties and found myself having a few 'Ahh, bless them' moments as I was that invested in a positive outcome for them both. The ending of the book is fantastic as well as extremely well written. I don't want to say too much but my heart was in my mouth! I can't praise Margaux enough and would gladly read another book by this author.
Wow this story was amazing and beautifully written. From the moment I started reading it I knew I was gonna love the story. Even though it contains hard topics and at times is hard to picture someone going through that it was amazing to see Kit be able to fight for herself and pull herself back together. Greer was the absolute perfect person and the absolute perfect time. Reading their story brought me joy and I loved seeing Greer and Kit grow together and learn how to be there for each other. It was a beautiful story of survival, growth and finding who you are and want to be. I highly recommend this book though definitely check the triggers because there was some hard topics covered.
Great Debut by Margaux Porter. Perfect romance with some suspense that keeps you invested in the relationship of Kit and Greer. Greer is a book boyfriend that everyone needs and Kit shows her strength through struggle and makes you root for her every step of the way. There is dual POV, close proximity, spiciness, guy falls first and suspense. Check the trigger warnings!
“He’s not fixing me- he’s giving me the strength to take back everything with meaning, everything joyful and mesmerizing and beautiful. He’s giving me the strength to be whole.”
Kit is so strong and has such a great story line. Greer makes you want your next boyfriend to be like him! The love he has for Kit from the beginning is like no other!
Looking for a feel good book, this is the one. Makes you remember that anything is possible, and you are capable of all things!
"Without exception, without wanting anything in return, I love you! ❤️"
This book is about Kit and Greer, and finding love after being completely broken and shattered. My heart hurt for Kit in more ways than one. Greer was definitely the man all us females dream about! The storyline was so phenomenal and captivating! It is definitely a little bit of a slow burn at the beginning but picks up pretty quickly and let me just tell you, you won't want to put it down!
Margaux is definitely a gifted author. This is her debut novel and it definitely hits out of the park! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I definitely would! I will ALWAYS recommend this book! This will definitely be a re-read multiple times! I wish I could read it over again for the first time it was THAT good! I can NOT wait for more work from this author!
Thank you Margaux for allowing me an ARC. I am in complete awe over this book!
Oh my gosh this is a book you will always remember. Kit is an amazing woman who has a lot of pain, torture and drama to get over. Then Greer comes in the picture and makes her want to find peace with her past. Kit and Greer's story you get the pain of the past and the spice of the present. This is a love story that will make you think and want more.
Holy shit batman! Buckle up and bring the tissues. This book is emotional as fuck. The shit the FMC goes through, usually breaks someone. I felt like it made her stronger. And Greer- hes chefs kiss. 5/5 star LOVE this book!
This book hit home. As a DA survivor I find myself usually irritated at how inaccurate authors describe it but not this time. This book is the absolute best description of what DA survivors have and still go through everyday.
Greer (MMC) is so understanding of Kit’s (FMC) trauma and is the absolute perfect depiction of a man that every woman should strive to find and be happy with. Not to mention his bedroom skills are 🥵.
This book had a huge plot twist at the end as well that I definitely did not see coming and it was written very well. I look forward to reading more books from this author in the future.
