This is book three of the Wolfe Brothers series and this one is all about Dr Oliver Wolfe, a neurologist, philanthropist, and head of a charitable organisation bringing healthcare to those unable to otherwise afford healthcare of any kind in his clinic in Chicago. He had an unhappy childhood, with a mother who was a secretary to Michael Wolfe and became pregnant by him, believing he would give up his family for her and her son. Michael Wolfe gave her a very comfortable amount each year, so she never had to work again, but she blamed his wife who was pregnant around the same time, for Michael not wanting her, Never mind he already had another two sons with his wife Margaret, or as Oliver called her, Maggie! Oliver’s best friend growing up was Samuel Adams, whose younger sister Libby (Liberty Bell) Adams, had a huge crush on him. The two men shared accommodated whilst at NYU and have kept in touch ever since. Samuel has become a successful entrepreneur, with a security software start-up in California, whilst Oliver became a billionaire after his grandfather died. That doesn’t stop him from working every hour he can though. Libby works for a PR firm and was promoted to the position of Event Manager position in Chicago some four months ago. They are holding a charity auction and Libby has persuaded her brother Sam to come up to Chicago and be one of the bachelors bid on for a date. What she doesn’t know, is that Sam asked his friend Oliver to come along and be another man up for auction as well. That one shocks Libby and all she can remember is how badly she embarrassed herself with Oliver when she was eighteen and he was twenty one! It is something she has never forgotten!
Sam likes to be a protective older brother to Libby, especially after her recent bad break up, that led to her moving across the country. Sam is in town for business, to choose between two companies that want to get in on his new software. One he isn’t so sure about, but he will meet with both before deciding. Sam gets bought by a rich woman with two bodyguards and looks like he might fall for the woman, rather than just wine and dine her! Oliver doesn’t believe in love, after his mother’s bitter experience was used to affect his outlook on love and relationships. He had never forgotten one of the last things she told him and so never makes any permanent arrangements with women. It is all a bit of fun with benefits and they can call when next in town to see if he is available again. One such arrangement will cause him issues at his clinic, after he finds someone better to spend his time with and the woman is rather vindictive. At the auction, Libby gets an upsetting phone call and is suddenly homeless. Sam puts her up in a hotel with him for a few nights, but he really needs to get back to California. He is uncomfortable with his little sister renting another dive, especially after he got a threatening letter, thinking it might have been her ex-AJ. He asks Oliver to lend his spare room in his penthouse to Libby, which brings all sorts of feelings to the fore, for both of them!
He hasn’t forgotten what happened all those years ago and he also can get past her smelling of cherries and wants to have her. But he promised Sam that he would look after her and not make a move on her or allow anyone else to hurt her, with everything she had recently gone through! Libby knows he is a bit of a player, but it doesn’t stop her fantasising about him. With Libby around, he finds he isn’t interested in any hook-ups and even his three stepbrothers notice a difference in him. When Grayson comes to visit and shows an interest in dating Libby, he finds himself ready to punch his brother! Being together so much has made the lines between Oliver and Libby become almost non-existent. They end up falling into each other’s arms, unable to deny their feelings any longer. A promise made to her brother can’t keep them apart, as the years of pent up fantasies are finally released. He finds in Libby, a very willing partner, one willing to experiment and he would never let himself hurt her. But one shadow over their relationship, is the fact they haven’t yet told Samuel! How he will react is unclear, but he probably won’t take it kindly and Libby may be left to choose between the love for her brother and the love of Oliver. When Samuel does find out, sparks will fly and all manner of other pressures will pile upon them both. Another secret is kept from her and a partial lie told. Each will have a devastating result on their relationship and only time will tell whether they will have the HEA ending they should be guaranteed and if Sam can come out from his own heartache and betrayal. Another fantastic read in this series, with another of the Wolfe brothers ensnared by love, this one more resistant to the idea than the others. It was nice to see snippets of the other brothers and how their lives are going with their own love lives. Only Grayson to go now and I look forward to reading that one. Lots of sparks and steamy sessions with this romantic journey Oliver and Libby went on, but also strains of danger and reflection. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
